The 2020 Masters is coming to an end, with the last players to hit the links in Round 4 Sunday morning finishing their rounds early in the afternoon.

With Dustin Johnson holding the lead heading into the final round, the 36-year-old could close out his quest for his first green jacket and his first major championship since he won the U.S. Open in 2016. After finishing in a tie for second at the Masters last season and entering this year's off of his second consecutive second-place finish at the PGA Championship, the World No. 1 is ready to snap a streak of almosts.

"I know what it takes," Johnson said, per Barry Svrluga and Matt Bonesteel of the Washington Post. "I know how I respond in this situation. I'm very comfortable with having the lead going into tomorrow. I've been in the situation a lot of times."

Johnson entered the day at 16 under after going without a bogey for the second time this weekend, readying to hold off a three-way tie at second place as Sungjae Im, Abraham Ancer and Cameron Smith tried to chase from four strokes back—though Smith, who is playing in his fourth Masters and has just two PGA wins, wasn't too optimistic heading into the final round.

"He's got a four-shot lead," Smith said of Johnson, according to Svrluga and Bonesteel. "Anyone with a four-shot lead is expected to win."

Im and Ancer are appearing in their first Masters.

Elsewhere, Dylan Frittelli posted a bogey-free third round Saturday to catapult 10 spots up the leaderboard, entering the day in fifth place at 11 under, while Justin Thomas' less-than-ideal outing pushed him down to No. 6.

Thomas trailed by two shots heading off of No. 11, but he bogeyed four of his last seven holes to slide back down the leaderboard.

"Disappointing about wraps it up," Thomas said, per Brian Mull of GolfWeek. "I played beautifully today that's probably what's most frustrating. I hit the ball so flush, hit a lot of shots exactly the way I wanted. Just one of those days where stuff didn't go my way ... a couple of yards here or there."

One of Sunday's biggest surprises thus far has been Rory McIlroy, who climbed up the leaderboard after posting a disappointing first round at 75.

He posted a redeeming 66 on Friday, followed by a 67 on Saturday to enter the final day in the 10th leaderboard spot. However, by the time he made it through much of his final round, he had climbed up to join a three-way tie for fourth place, alongside Frittelli and Thomas, with the trio all at 11 under as they started to descend upon the back nine.

Dustin Johnson has maintained a multishot lead for the first half of the final round at the Masters.

Cameron Smith cut into Johnson's advantage on the front nine, but the Australian is still two shots back of the leader at Augusta National Golf Club.

Johnson and Smith appear to be the only two possible green jacket winners since Sungjae Im in third place needs to make up four shots on the back nine.

Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Brooks Koepka and Jon Rahm are among the players jockeying for the best possible finish beneath Johnson, Smith and Im.

Johnson's round has been far from perfect, but he managed to recover from the mistakes made on the front nine.

The 2016 U.S. Open winner dropped shots with back-to-back bogeys at No. 4 and No. 5, but he rebounded with a birdie at No. 6 and another one at No. 8.

Smith turned in a terrific card on the front nine to be in position to take advantage of any mistakes from Johnson on the back nine.

The current second-place golfer produced four birdies on the front nine to inch closer to the current green jacket favorite.

Although Smith may not be a notable name on the PGA Tour, he does have some good history at Augusta. He finished in a tie for fifth in 2018.

The other member of the final threesome has not fared so well. Ancer had four bogeys and a birdie on the front nine to drop out of contention for the win.

Smith and McIlroy are two of the 11 golfers that are multiple shots under par for the round. McIlroy used a front-nine surge to move into deadlock with Thomas for fifth place.

Thomas recorded his first birdie of the round at the eighth hole. Since he could not gain a stroke on Johnson on the front nine, his ceiling on the leaderboard appears to be fifth.

Tiger Woods sits on the opposite end of the leaderboard following a disastrous 12th hole, where he recorded a 10 after putting multiple shots in the water.

The reigning champion is currently eight over for the round and is one bogey away from finishing third-from-last.

Woods will have to stick around after his round is done to place the green jacket on the champion, which right now looks to be Johnson.

After finishing the second round in a five-way tie for the lead, Dustin Johnson took complete control of the Masters in the third round.

Johnson, who finished tied for second place last year, entered Sunday with a four-shot lead. His score of 16 under par is tied for the best 54-hole score in the history of this tournament:

Fans can follow along as Johnson chases his first career green jacket and history in the final round by visiting the Masters' official website for up-to-the-minute scores.

Johnson got to 16 under par thanks to two bogey-free rounds of 65. His third-round 65 came after a modest two-under-par 70 in the second round. DJ has feasted on the par-five second hole with eagles in the first and third round.

Johnson was perfect off the tee in the third round, hitting 14 of 14 fairways. He capitalized on that by making it onto the green in regulation 89 percent of the time (16-of-18), 23 percentage points better than the average for the entire field Saturday.

"It was a really good day," he told reporters after the third round. "I have been swinging well all week. Even after getting off to a good start, I tried to stay patient and be aggressive when I could."

There were signs that Johnson was going to play well this weekend. He hasn't finished worse than sixth in each of his previous six events:

Even with that potential indicator, no one could have seen this level of dominance coming. Johnson's quest to make history Sunday would give him his second career major title. He previously won the U.S. Open in 2016.

If there's a reason to be hesitant about engraving Johnson's name on the Masters Trophy early, it's because historically he's had problems closing out major tournaments:

Sungjae Im, Abraham Ancer and Cameron Smith entered Sunday with the best chance of catching Johnson. That trio finished the third round tied for second at 12 under par.

A four-shot deficit with 18 holes to play is certainly difficult to erase, but it's not impossible. Greg Norman blew a four-shot lead through seven holes Sunday at the 1996 Masters, finishing with a 78 and allowing Nick Faldo to win the green jacket.

Of course, Johnson has only played two rounds over par dating back to the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational in August. That's a span of eight tournaments.

There's certainly a chance that something could happen Sunday that knocks Johnson off his current pace, or one of the players chasing him suddenly catches fire, but it would be a surprise to see anyone other than him wearing the green jacket at the end of the final round.

Dustin Johnson entered Round 4 of the 2020 Masters with a four-stroke lead, but he can't earn the green jacket until he finishes on top after 72 holes.

The world No. 1 has been outstanding through the first three rounds, sitting at 16 under thanks to two rounds of 65. However, he has failed to win on each of the previous four occasions he has led after Round 3 at a major.

While the 36-year-old does have one major victory in his career, he overcame a four-stroke deficit going into the final round to win the 2016 U.S. Open.

Johnson must remain sharp Sunday at Augusta National in order to clinch his second career major, while Sungjae Im, Abraham Ancer, Cameron Smith and others will do what they can to make up the deficit over the final 18 holes.

Tournament Predictions

All eyes will be on Johnson, who is the clear favorite to come away with the victory.

Despite his past failures in closing out fourth-round leads, he is confident going into the last round.

"I'm very comfortable with having the lead going into tomorrow," he said Saturday, per Doug Ferguson of the Associated Press. "I've been in this situation a lot of times. I'm looking forward to the challenge. It's still going to be a tough day. I'm going to have to play well if I want to get it done."

He has been playing extremely well to this point, carding just two bogeys in three rounds with zero in Round 3.

Johnson was as smooth as possible Saturday, hitting all 14 fairways while getting 16 of 18 greens in regulation, per the tournament's official siteEven if he doesn't get many birdies Sunday, he will win if he can remain steady and avoid mistakes, as he has all tournament.

His four-stroke cushion is even more advantageous when you consider the relative inexperience behind him:

Im and Ancer are both making their Masters debuts this year, while Dylan Frittelli missed the cut in his only other appearance. Smith had a top-five finish in 2018 but also had rounds of 77 and 82 in his previous Masters showings.

While all four have proved they can handle this course, it's difficult for anyone to keep up this level for four rounds.

Im is the youngest of this group at 22, but he has the best chance to contend thanks to the consistency he has showed over the past year and his ability to rack up birdies this week (19).

Of course, there are still several other top players who could climb the leaderboard on the final day.

Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka each finished Round 3 within the top 10 and could end up even higher with decent rounds Sunday.

Thomas, especially, should be a threat even after ruining his prospects in the third round with four bogeys in the final seven holes. Even during that brutal stretch, he had two birdies and saved par on 17 thanks to this outstanding shot:

The talent is clearly there to post a low number, and he could get into second place with a 66 in the final round.

Prediction: 1. Dustin Johnson, 2. Justin Thomas, 3. Sungjai Im, 4. Abraham Ancer, 5. Rory McIlroy

Dustin Johnson has come close to winning his second major on countless occasions.

Since his 2016 U.S. Open victory, the 36-year-old American has produced seven top-10 major finishes. Johnson is in great shape to end his four-year major drought at The Masters, as he holds a four-shot advantage over three other golfers.

Abraham Ancer and Sungjae Im will try to make up the four-shot deficit in the same group as Johnson on Sunday. Cameron Smith will play with Justin Thomas and Dylan Frittelli.

Thomas has six shots to make up on the 54-hole leader. If he does not close the gap from the penultimate group on course, he could still finish behind Johnson to put two of the best players in the world in the first two positions on the leaderboard.

Predictions

Dustin Johnson Holds On to Lead

Johnson is the only golfer to record a pair of 65s at Augusta this week.

In fact, the 54-hole leader owns two of the five 65s on course through three rounds. Paul Casey and Frittelli carded that score in the first round and Corey Conners produced the only Friday 65.

Between the low rounds, Johnson produced a two-under 70, which is a score that could be good enough to win him the green jacket Sunday. If he picks up two more strokes, that would mean the rest of the field has to shoot 66 or better to just move into a tie with the world No. 1.

Im is the only one of the three tied at 12 under with a 66 in the tournament, and that occurred in the opening round. Eight 66s have been recorded at Augusta. Im and Thomas are the only two with six-under rounds sitting within six shots of Johnson.

As long as Johnson keeps a steady hand and does not lose more than two shots, he should have the consistency to fend off any challenges for first place.

Justin Thomas Finishes as Johnson's Closest Competitor

Thomas' rounds have progressively gotten worse since his 66 on Thursday, but he is still sitting at 10 under.

He has an opportunity to put some pressure on Johnson from the group in front of the final threesome. On Thursday, Thomas rolled in birdies on four of the first five holes, and if he takes advantage of any of those holes early Sunday, he could make a surge into second place.

For Thomas to thrive on the back nine, he needs to avoid the bogeys he carded Saturday. He dropped shots on four of the last seven holes of the third round. Fortunately, he also had two birdies in that span.

In the second round, Thomas reeled off four straight birdies on Holes 15-18. If he replicates that form Sunday, he could leap over the inexperienced major players sitting in a tie for second place.

Even if Thomas turns in the round of his life, he may still be playing for second, with Johnson finding success across the course.

Dustin Johnson is running away with the Masters after shooting seven-under 65 for the second time in three days to enter the final round at 16 under.

Low scores are commonplace at Augusta National Golf Club this year, but no golfer has been as dominant as Johnson, who carded five birdies and an eagle during his bogey-free third round.

The 2016 U.S. Open champion still has some work to do, as Sungjae Im, Abraham Ancer and Cameron Smith are all four shots back. World No. 3 Justin Thomas also lurks at 11 under.

DJ Shoots 65 Yet Again

Johnson gave himself birdie chances thanks to masterful approach shots. He also smashed balls off the tee and wielded a hot putter, leading to his catching fire in Augusta.

He got the scoring going early by going four under from Holes 2-4, including an eagle on the par-five second:

A dart at the No. 7 pin led to an easy birdie:

The par-five 13th nearly ended with an eagle, but he settled for another stress-free birdie:

DJ got on the green in three again at the par-five 15th and finished that hole in four strokes to move to 16 under:

He ended the round with three straight pars and the day with a four-shot lead. In addition, Johnson found the fairway on all 14 par-four and par-five holes Saturday, per Stats Perform.

Johnson also tied Jordan Spieth with the best 54-hole mark in the history of the Masters. Spieth set the 54-hole record in 2015.

DJ 1 is also in line to set the 72-hole record, which is held by Tiger Woods (1997) and Spieth at 18 under. He's also the first World No. 1 to hold an outright 54-hole lead at Augusta since Tiger Woods 2001, per ESPN:

That Masters win capped the Tiger Slam for Woods, as he held all four of golf's majors at the same time following his two-shot win over David Duval. Woods ended the tournament at 16 under.

Johnson has a chance to destroy the 72-hole record, in part because he's playing near-spotless golf. He's only made two bogeys, with those occurring on back-to-back on holes (Nos. 14 and 15) during the second round.

That wasn't a big deal for Johnson because he had birdied the 11th through 13th holes to vault into the lead.

Dustin Johnson owns a significant edge in experience over his playing partners Sunday at The Masters.

Johnson has 19 top-10 major finishes and has been in the top 10 at Augusta National Golf Club on three occasions since 2016.

Sungjae Im and Abraham Ancer, meanwhile, are fighting to earn their first-ever finishes in the top 10 of a major leaderboard. The large disparity in experience could play in Johnson's favor as the threesome goes through the course Sunday.

Justin Thomas sits in a similar position in the penultimate threesome to start off the first tee. He has four major top-10 placings, while Cameron Smith has two and Dylan Frittelli does not have any.

Before the final groups tee off, there are a few intriguing threesomes to watch, including one with Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka and Tommy Fleetwood.

Masters Sunday Coverage

Sunday Tee Times

For the fourth day in a row, The Masters will use threesomes on split tees to finish before daylight expires in Augusta, Georgia.

The start times are similar to 2019, when Tiger Woods won after an early-morning final-round start that was forced up by inclement weather. Johnson is in line to join Woods in the group of Masters champions as long as he does not blow a four-stroke lead.

The 36-year-old has a chance to become the fifth player ranked No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking to win The Masters and the first since Woods in 2002, per PGA Tour Communications.

If Johnson holds on to his four-shot lead, he and Woods would be the first back-to-back champions at Augusta to already have won a major title since Angel Cabrera and Phil Mickelson in 2009 and 2010.

Prior to Woods' win in 2019, Jordan Spieth, Danny Willett, Sergio Garcia and Patrick Reed all won their first major crowns at The Masters.

Johnson likely does not need his third 65 of the week to win, but if he shoots somewhere in the 60s, he should come away as the champion. If that occurs, there could be a chaotic dash for second place. Eight golfers are separated by three shots from 12 under to nine under, and an additional five players sit at eight under at the time of publishing.

McIlroy, Koepka and Fleetwood are all part of the collection at eight under, and all of them are capable of surging into the top five and challenging for second. McIlroy produced a 66 and 67 in his past two rounds and Koepka turned in back-to-back 69s. Fleetwood has a second-round 66 sandwiching 71s.

If each member of that threesome plays well, they should all move up and put pressure on the more inexperienced golfers sitting above them.

The group starting right after the McIlroy-Koepka-Fleetwood threesome could pose some danger as well.

Reed is a previous green jacket winner and produced back-to-back 68s to start the tournament, and Jon Rahm could be dangerous after he dropped a second-round 66 to get to nine-under.

The only way any of those golfers come close to challenging Johnson is if the one-time major winner struggles from the start and lets the nerves sink in. But that does not seem likely since Johnson has carded a 70 or better in five of his past seven fourth rounds at majors.

Thanks to a seven-under 65 on Saturday, Dustin Johnson carries a comfortable four-shot advantage into Sunday's final round of the 2020 Masters at Augusta National Golf Club.

Johnson put together his second bogey-free 18 of the tournament, tallying five birdies and an eagle. Since he carded the same score Thursday, DJ became the first player in Masters history to record a pair of 65's in one Masters.

Because of daylight restrictions, Sunday's first group was expected to hit the course at 7:50 a.m. ET, but the PGA Tour announced "all tee times have been delayed by 10 minutes" because of fog.

Johnson will play alongside Abraham Ancer and Sungjae Im, who, along with Cameron Smith, are tied for second at 12 under par. Johnson's group was expected to tee off at 9:29 a.m. ET before the PGA Tour announcement.

Masters Tee Times and Predictions

Although it's not where he wanted to be, reigning champion Tiger Woods is among the players teeing off early in the morning. At five under par, he's 11 shots behind Johnson. Woods will be with Shane Lowry and Scottie Scheffler and was expected to tee off at 8:12 a.m. ET before the delay.

We mention that because Woods is many viewers' favorite. If you're looking for a specific player, full tee times are available on Masters.com.

Sunday's focus, though, is on a select group.

The simple truth is Johnson's lead has trimmed the list of viable contenders to only a handful, barring a collapse. The problem for the world No. 1 is that he has a history of such letdowns; he's held a 54-hole lead in four majors before this one and won none of them.

Nevertheless, his confidence for Sunday is well-founded.

"If I can play like I did today, I think it will break that streak," Johnson said, per Doug Ferguson of the Associated Press. "Tomorrow, it's just 18 holes of golf. I need to go out and play solid. I feel like I'm swinging really well. If I can just continue to give myself a lot of looks at birdie, I think I'll have a good day."

Johnson has 14 birdies, two eagles and two bogeys for the tournament. Ancer, Im, Smith and the other contenders cannot reasonably expect DJ to give back many, if any, shots in the final round.

On the bright side, that should make for an aggressive day.

"Anyone with a four-shot lead is expected to win," Smith said, per Ferguson. "There's going to be plenty of boys firing tomorrow."

Justin Thomaswho is at 10 under paradded how the crowd-less environment can benefit Johnson.

"Unfortunately for all of us chasing D.J. is there's no fans or nothing to make that moment even harder, to have the buzz, to have the adrenaline, to have a little bit more pressure put on him that won't be there this year," he said, according to Brian Mull of the Savannah Morning News.

Add together all those factors, and it's no surprise Johnson is our pick to slip on a green jacket Sunday evening. It would be his first Masters win and second career major victory.

Dustin Johnson Talks 54-Hole Masters Lead, Confidence Entering Final Round

Dustin Johnson isn't lacking confidence or belief in himself with a four-shot lead heading into the final round at the Masters.

Speaking to reporters after his third-round 65 Saturday, Johnson says he just has to repeat that performance to leave Augusta with his first green jacket.

"If I can play like I did [Saturday], I think it will break that streak," he said. "It's just 18 holes of golf. I need to go out and play solid. I feel like I'm swinging really well. If I can just continue to give myself a lot of looks at birdie, I think I'll have a good day."

The streak Johnson referred to is his history of having a 54-hole lead in major tournaments. He's done it four times but failed convert in each instance.

It happened most recently in August at the PGA Championship. Johnson entered the final round at nine under par and closed with a 68, but Collin Morikawa's 64 gave him the win by two shots.

Johnson described his golf game as being "in really good form right now" as he has tied the Masters' 54-hole record with a 16 under par.

"Very similar to what it was back in 2017," he explained. "It's just very consistent. I feel like I've got a lot of control of what I'm doing, controlling my distance well with my flight and my shape. I'm very comfortable standing over the golf ball right now, and obviously that's a really good feeling."

Johnson tied Jordan Spieth's 54 heading into the final round in 2015. Spieth closed out the win with a 70 that Sunday to tie Tiger Woods' record for the lowest total score in tournament history (-18).

Johnson is grouped with Sungjae Im and Abraham Ancer on Sunday with a 9:29 a.m. ET tee time.

For the second time in 2020, Dustin Johnson is the 54-hole leader at a major championship.

The 36-year-old enters the final round of The Masters with a larger cushion than he had at the 2020 PGA Championship. He is four shots ahead of Sungjae Im, Abraham Ancer and Cameron Smith. Dylan Frittelli is the only other golfer within five strokes.

With a pair of 65s on his scorecard already, Johnson could be impossible to catch Sunday at Augusta National Golf Club.

Dustin Johnson Finally Earns 2nd Major Victory

Johnson appeared to be in line to earn his second major crown at the PGA Championship, but his final-round 68 was not enough to fend off a long list of contenders.

The good news for the American is his lead is three strokes larger than the one he possessed after Saturday at TPC Harding Park.

Johnson has been on another level than most of the field all week, and that dominance could extend into the final round. The 54-hole leader did not drop a shot during Saturday's third round. He posted an eagle at No. 2 and birdies at Nos. 3 and 4.

Since the start of the 2018 season, Johnson has a final-round average of 70.3 at major tournaments. He produced a 69 on Sunday at Augusta in 2018 and was one shot better in the fourth round a year ago. Even if Johnson displays consistency with a string of pars and a few birdies, he should feel safe atop the leaderboard.

Im, Frittelli and Justin Thomas all have rounds of 66 or better in this tournament, but a replication of those cards may not be enough to catch Johnson if he does not drop shots.

Rory McIlroy Leaves Augusta with Top-5 Finish

Rory McIlroy is one of the many notable golfers sitting in the top 10.

The 31-year-old placed himself in a tie for 10th behind a third-round 67. Were it not for his struggles in the opening round, he may have been in the mix for a green jacket.

If McIlroy can follow up his 66-67 stretch with another low round, he will challenge for a top-five finish, which would be a great end to 2020. The Northern Irishman tied for eighth at the U.S. Open, but he struggled, like many golfers, in the final round and carded a 75.

If he completes The Masters with another strong round, McIlroy could gain confidence that may lead to another major victory. A year ago, McIlroy carded a final-round 68 at Augusta that led to a tie for 21st. That low round spurred a run of three top-10 finishes in the past five majors.

McIlroy's path to the top five will not be easy, with Thomas, Brooks Koepka, Tommy Fleetwood and others in the mix for high placings, but he has shown in recent majors that he is capable of reeling off three straight under-par rounds.
