Rams' Sean McVay Discusses Coaching Future Amid Broadcasting Rumors

Feb 12, 2022

Sean McVay is just 36 years old and on the verge of coaching in his second career Super Bowl as one of the best coaches in the league with a seemingly bright future ahead of him, but that future may include broadcasting instead of being on the sidelines for 30-plus years.

Andrew Marchand of the New York Post reported "if the Rams were to win the Super Bowl, McVay could walk away and likely make at least $10 million in a booth."

McVay opened up about his future ahead of the Super Bowl and revealed he is interested in starting a family and spending time with them beyond just football, especially since he is scheduled to be married in the offseason after postponing his wedding multiple times for pandemic-related reasons.

Nick Wagoner of ESPN shared some of McVay's comments:

I love this so much that it's such a passion but I also know that what I've seen from some of my closest friends, whether it's coaches or even some of our players, I'm gonna be married this summer, I want to have a family and I think being able to find that balance but also be able to give the time necessary. I have always had a dream about being able to be a father and I can't predict the future, you know? I jokingly say that.

I don't really know. I know I love football and I'm so invested in this thing and I'm in the moment right now. But at some point, too, if you said what do you want to be able to do? I want to be able to have a family and I want to be able to spend time with them.

Wagoner noted sources previously told his colleague, Lindsey Thiry, that McVay "considered working as a television analyst as an alternative to coaching."

What's more, he noted an NFC executive told his colleague, Jeremy Fowler, that McVay is looking to win a championship "so then can have options."

The coach is under contract with the Rams through the 2023 campaign and has a 55-26 record in five years as the team's coach. While he fell short in his first Super Bowl trip with a loss to the New England Patriots, he will have an opportunity to win that Lombardi Trophy on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Perhaps that may set the course to an eventual career change.

Odell Beckham Jr. Says He'd Take Less Money in Next Contract to Remain with Rams

It appears Odell Beckham Jr. is interested in remaining with the Los Angeles Rams beyond the 2021 season.

While speaking with reporters ahead of Sunday's Super Bowl against the Cincinnati Bengals at SoFi Stadium, Beckham was asked if he would take less money to remain in L.A. for the 2022 season. He responded, "yeah, of course!"

“This place, it feels good in my heart," Beckham said. "It feels like a home.”

Beckham signed a one-year deal with the Rams worth up to $4.25 million in November after being waived by the Cleveland Browns, and he almost certainly would have to sacrifice salary to remain in L.A. in 2022.

The Rams are projected to be over the salary cap by more than $13 million, according to OverTheCap. In addition to Beckham, the franchise could also have to attempt to retain players like Von Miller, Darious Williams and Sony Michel, who are all set to be unrestricted free agents.

If Beckham doesn't re-sign with the Rams, there's no question he'll end up with another solid team in 2022. He told reporters earlier this week that he was "very close" to joining either the New England Patriots or New Orleans Saints after being released by the Browns, and those teams could express interest in the veteran again during the offseason.

Beckham also was interested in joining the Green Bay Packers before signing with the Rams, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. If the Packers lose Davante Adams in free agency, they could end up pursuing Beckham. However, it's unclear if the three-time Pro Bowler would be OK with playing in Green Bay without four-time MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who could be playing elsewhere in 2022.

Beckham has revived his career in just a short period with the Rams. In eight regular-season games, he caught 27 passes for 305 yards and five touchdowns. He's added 19 catches for 236 yards and one touchdown in three playoff games.

However, if he remains with the Rams, his role could be a little different in 2022. Robert Woods is expected to return from a torn ACL, so Beckham would compete with him and Van Jefferson for targets while Cooper Kupp continues to act as the team's No. 1 receiver.

Odell Beckham Jr. Regrets How Browns Tenure Ended: 'There Really Was No Closure'

While speaking with reporters Friday ahead of Sunday's Super Bowl against the Cincinnati Bengals, Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. admitted that he felt bad about how his tenure with the Cleveland Browns came to an end earlier this season.

“One of the biggest regrets that I have is about the way that things ended. There really was no closure. It just happened so abrupt. So a lot of things were out of my control. By the time I woke up, the video was already posted. It was just unfortunate.”

The LSU product played in Cleveland for two-and-a-half seasons after being drafted by the New York Giants 12th overall in 2014. He spent five seasons with the Giants from 2014 to '18.

Beckham's tenure with the Browns ended somewhat messy. His father, Odell Beckham Sr., posted a video to Instagram displaying times when quarterback Baker Mayfield either missed his son entirely or didn't throw the ball to him when he was wide open.

Beckham reportedly never apologized to Mayfield for the video, according to ESPN's Jake Trotter, and was placed on waivers shortly after. He then signed a one-year deal with the Rams in November.

After joining the Rams, the 29-year-old told reporters that he signed with the franchise because everything felt right in his heart.

I took a lot of time in the decision-making, and it wasn't to build anticipation or nothing. This is my life and I feel like I've been through a lot. I'm at a point in my life where I'm ready to play football. I've dedicated, I've sacrificed a lot to be here. It just happened that this felt right in my heart and in my soul.

Since moving to Los Angeles, Beckham has been playing some of his best football in recent years. The three-time Pro Bowler caught 27 passes for 305 yards and five touchdowns in eight regular-season games. He has been even better in the playoffs, catching 19 passes for 236 yards and one touchdown in three games.

Beckham also expressed interest in remaining with the Rams beyond this season, telling reporters that L.A. "feels like a home." If his team wins the Super Bowl on Sunday, the chances of him running it back in L.A. could increase.

Eric Dickerson Plans to Skip Super Bowl 56 After Rams Offered Nosebleed Tickets

Hall of Fame running back and Los Angeles Rams legend Eric Dickerson is unlikely to attend Sunday's Super Bowl at SoFi Stadium between the Rams and Cincinnati Bengals.

Dickerson said during an interview on CBS Sports Radio's Maggie and Perloff Show (h/t John Breech of CBS Sports) that he would rather watch the game on television because the Rams only offered him nosebleed tickets to the Super Bowl.

"Let's put it like this, they wanted to give me tickets in the rafters," Dickerson said. "In the 400s, so I said, 'I'd rather stay at home and watch it.'"

It's certainly odd that the Rams wouldn't offer Dickerson better seats. He spent the first four-plus seasons of his career with the franchise, who selected him second overall in the 1983 NFL draft.

The 61-year-old rushed for 7,245 yards and 56 touchdowns in 65 career games for the Rams and also caught 123 passes for 912 yards and two touchdowns. He is the second-leading rusher in Rams history.

Maybe after making the news that the Rams only offered him nosebleed seats public, the franchise will offer Dickerson better seats, but that remains unclear.

Drake Betting $1.6M in Bitcoin on Rams, Odell Beckham Jr. in SB 56 vs. Bengals

Drake is betting big on the Los Angeles Rams and Odell Beckham Jr. in Super Bowl 56 on Sunday.

In a post on Instagram, the rap superstar revealed he placed three different bets in Bitcoin on the Rams and Beckham totaling $1.6 million.

"All bets are in on the family," Drake wrote in the caption.

Beckham responded in the comments: "it's time."

His bets are $600,000 on the Rams to win outright, $500,000 on Beckham to go over 62.5 receiving yards and $500,000 on Beckham to go over 0.5 touchdowns.

Of the three bets placed by Drake, Beckham touchdowns is probably the riskiest. He only has one score in three playoff games. Cooper Kupp has caught four of Matthew Stafford's six touchdown passes this postseason.

Drake and Beckham have built a friendship over the years. The three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver was one of several professional athletes who appeared in Drake's music video for "Laugh Now Cry Later" released in 2020.

The addition of Beckham has paid off huge for the Rams in the postseason after he had 305 yards and five touchdowns on 27 receptions in eight games with Los Angeles during the regular season.

In three playoff games, Beckham has 19 receptions, 236 yards and one touchdown. The 29-year-old had a season-high nine receptions for 113 yards in Los Angeles' 20-17 win over the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game.

The Rams will play the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl 56 at SoFi Stadium on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. ET.

Mattress Mack Bets $5M on Bengals to Beat Rams in Super Bowl 56 After $4.5M Wager

Houston-area businessman Jim McIngvale really believes in the Cincinnati Bengals.

ESPN's David Purdum reported McIngvale, who's known as "Mattress Mack," placed a $5 million wager on the Bengals to beat the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LVI.

The 71-year-old had already put $4.5 million on the AFC champions, so he could be looking at a massive payout should Cincinnati prevail Sunday.

The Bengals are a four-point underdog at DraftKings Sportsbook. Joe Burrow was sacked an NFL-high 51 times in the regular season, so he may find himself under constant pressure from a Los Angeles front seven that includes Aaron Donald, Von Miller and Leonard Floyd.

McIngvale is nonetheless optimistic about Cincinnati.

"I figure it's more of a toss-up," he said to Purdum. "It could come down to a final field goal, like a lot of these exciting playoff games."

Los Angeles Rams tackle Andrew Whitworth won the 2021 Walter Payton Man of the Year Award for his volunteer and charity work, as well as his excellence on the field.

This is the fourth straight season Whitworth has been nominated for the award. He is the first player in Rams' history to earn the honor.

Whitworth is also the first offensive lineman to win the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award since former Baltimore Ravens center Matt Birk in 2011.

The 40-year-old joined the Rams in 2017 and has since been committed to being an advocate for the Los Angeles community, while also remaining involved in his hometown in Louisiana.

In 2008, Whitworth started the Big Whitt 77 Foundation, which assists youth and families in need. The organization offers a scholarship program "to assist local high school seniors pursue higher education" and offers financial assistance "to local families pursuing adoption," among other things.

"The Big Whitt 77 Foundation serves a mission to impact the lives of youth and families in local communities," the website reads.

At the beginning of the 2021 season, Whitworth also created the Big Whit Homes for L.A. Families program and donated $20,000 after each Rams home game at SoFi Stadium to repair homes in Louisiana and move Los Angeles residents facing housing insecurity into proper homes.

In addition, Whitworth has worked with non-profits to help people pay rent and buy groceries. He also partnered with Rebuilding Together to help repair homes in Louisiana after Hurricane Ida hit in August 2021.

Whitworth, a four-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro, was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft. He spent 11 years with the franchise before joining the Rams, so it's only right that he's facing the club that drafted him in this Sunday's Super Bowl.

Rams' Cooper Kupp Wins 2021 NFL Offensive Player of the Year

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp bucked the odds to win the NFL's Offensive Player of the Year.

The 28-year-old is the second wideout in three years to collect the honor after the New Orleans Saints' Michael Thomas topped the voting in 2019. But the position has been overlooked for the most part in the award's history. Jerry Rice is the only other receiver to be recognized as the Offensive Player of the Year.

Kupp had some tough competition to overcome.

No quarterback was more prolific than Tom Brady. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers star threw for 5,316 yards and 43 touchdowns.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers might be on his way to a second straight MVP after throwing for 4,115 yards, 37 touchdowns and seven interceptions while helping to guide his team to the NFC's top seed.

Jonathan Taylor amassed more yards from scrimmage than any other player. The Indianapolis Colts running back ran for 1,811 yards and caught 40 passes for 360 yards, scoring 20 total touchdowns.

But Kupp is a deserving winner. The 2021 Pro Bowler finished just short of a single-season record by catching 145 passes for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns.

His total numbers were inflated slightly by the addition of a 17th game, but his 114.5 receiving yards per contest were the 10th most ever.

The strong-armed Matthew Stafford proved to be the perfect partner through the air.

Kupp's breakout couldn't have come at a much better time, either. He's due to collect a $14.8 million salary in 2022 before entering the final year of his three-year, $47.3 million extension with Los Angeles.

If the Eastern Washington product wants to renegotiate his contract, he'll have a lot of leverage after proving his value to the Rams this past season.

Super Bowl 56 Average Ticket Price Is $8,869; Highest Average Resell Value Ever

Fans looking to get a ticket to Super Bowl LVI might want to look at a different secondary site than StubHub.

Per Darren Rovell of the Action Network, the average ticket price for Sunday's game between the Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals is up to a record $8,869.

Prices for Super Bowl tickets have been a hot topic of discussion, especially in the wake of former Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson pointing out the difficulty most fans will have in securing a seat to see their favorite team in the big game:

https://twitter.com/ochocinco/status/1488685870504763392

It's not a surprise that this year's Super Bowl would set a record for ticket sale price. The game is being played at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, where ticket prices for sports and entertainment events will often be on the higher end of the spectrum.

Cameron DaSilva of Rams Wire wrote in August that the average ticket price for a Rams home game has nearly doubled from $109.24 in 2019 to $212.16 in 2021.

Part of the increase in ticket prices for Rams games can be attributed to SoFi Stadium. The team spent its first four seasons in Los Angeles from 2016-19 playing at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

SoFi Stadium opened in September 2020, but fans weren't allowed to attend Rams home games last season because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Rams and Bengals will play on Sunday to determine the NFL champion for the 2021 season. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. ET.

Rams' Jalen Ramsey: 'Of Course' I Want to Cover Bengals' Ja'Marr Chase in Super Bowl

Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey isn't backing down from a challenge ahead of Sunday's Super Bowl matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals.

He told reporters he "of course" wants to shadow Ja'Marr Chase during the game and expanded on his approach:

It's me now, it's me, keep it real. Of course, that's what I'm asking for. That's what I want. Whoever you think their best man is, put me on him. Let me help the team win this game. That's what it's all about.

There are different areas where we might have to do something different because it might put the team in a better position to win. So, wherever the game may take us, it will take us, and we are going to do what we've got to do from there. But you're going to get to see that matchup, you're going to have the opportunity to see it, and I'm going to be ready for it.

While asking Ramsey—a five-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro—to simply shadow Chase is a potential option, the presence of Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd alongside the dominant rookie with quarterback Joe Burrow at the helm is one of the things that makes the Bengals so dangerous.

It will require a group effort to slow down all three, and that isn't even accounting for running back Joe Mixon.

Therefore, don't be surprised if the Rams use Ramsey all over the field against such an explosive offense, but his individual matchup with Chase is one of the biggest talking points going into the game.
