Mississippi is one win away from the program's first national championship after defeating Oklahoma 10-3 on Saturday in Game 1 of the 2022 men's College World Series finals.

The Rebels pounced early, scoring four runs across the first three innings. The Sooners, who hadn't lost yet in Omaha, clawed back to make it a 4-2 game after six innings, but the Rebels were ready with an answer. Justin Bench, Calvin Harris and T.J. McCants hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in the eighth inning, effectively putting the game out of reach.

If Oklahoma wants to win the program's third national title, they'll have to win two do-or-die games in a row at Charles Schwab Field. Ole Miss can snap up the title on Sunday.

Here's a look at the remaining schedule for the best-of-three series.

Men's College World Series Final Schedule, TV Info

Game 1: Mississippi 10, Oklahoma 3

Game 2: Sunday, June 26 at 3 p.m. ET, ESPN

Game 3 (if necessary): Monday, June 27 at 7 p.m. ET, ESPN

Ole Miss hasn't had much success as a program in the College World Series, but this weekend could change all that. The offense was in fine working order in Game 1, as the Rebels amassed 16 hits, four of them home runs. Senior first baseman and captain Tim Elko led the hit parade, going 4-for-5 with a home run and three runs scored. He crossed the plate twice in the first three innings.

While Elko took care of the early proceedings, his teammates provided the fireworks late. Bench and McCants, part of the home-run bonanza in the eighth, each had two RBI, while second baseman Peyton Chatagnier notched three hits and an RBI of his own.

On the mound, the Rebels got an incredible performance out of Jack Dougherty, who retired the first 15 batters in order before he was pulled from the game with bases loaded in the sixth.

“Obviously, Jack had a tremendous day. I thought [he had] super fastball command, super slider command. He just lived ahead in the count,” head coach Mike Bianco said, per the Oxford Eagle's Jake Davis.

In Game 2, Ole Miss will call upon freshman lefty Hunter Elliott to start on the mound. Elliott is 5-3 with a 2.70 ERA this season. He's coming off a strong outing against Arkansas on Monday, where he pitched 6.1 innings and gave up three runs (one earned) with four strikeouts. Catcher Hayden Dunhurst, a seemingly unflappable backstop who is ranked No. 152 in MLB.com's top prospects, will be guiding the freshman from behind home plate.

With the championship on the line, the Sooners will have to counter with someone other than ace pitcher Jack Bennett, who took the loss in Game 1. The likely option is Cade Horton, who has been excellent over his past four starts.

The bats are also due to pick back up, as the Sooners scored 24 runs in their first three games of the CWS and hadn't even trailed when Ole Miss stunned them in the first inning. The team's first five batters in the lineup, which includes prospects Peyton Graham and Jimmy Crooks, went a combined 1-for-18 with two RBI and two walks on Saturday.

“We don't give up,” Sooners first baseman Blake Robertson said, per the Oklahoman's Justin Martinez. “We go pitch to pitch, and we don't give up. We're going to fight to the last out. It's just an unfortunate loss for us, but it doesn't define us as a team.”

Elliott has been excellent for the Rebels this season, but it's unlikely he can repeat Dougherty's performance against this loaded lineup. Look for Oklahoma to make this a much more competitive game on Sunday with its season on the line.

Ole Miss took down Arkansas with a 2-0 shutout victory on Thursday to advance to the Men's College World Series final for the first time in program history.

It's just the sixth appearance in the MCWS for the Runnin' Rebels and second since 1972. Ole Miss is now 8-1 in this year's tournament after amassing just five all-time MCWS wins.

The Rebels will take on the Oklahoma Sooners in the MCWS final, which is a best-of-three series beginning on Saturday.

Here's a deeper look at how things played out on Thursday.

Ole Miss 2, Arkansas 0

Rebels starting pitcher Dylan DeLucia powered Ole Miss on Thursday, pitching a complete-game shutout with seven strikeouts, no walks and just four hits allowed. The junior right-hander punctuated the day with a strikeout to end the game:

DeLucia kept the stress level at a minimum for Ole Miss, as Arkansas managed only one player to make it into scoring position when Cayden Wallace reached second base in the first inning. DeLucia's performance earned him some substantial praise online:

With DeLucia pitching the way he did, one run was all the Rebels needed to earn a victory. Kevin Graham got Ole Miss on the board in the fourth inning with a double that brought home Justin Bench.

Calvin Harris added an insurance run in the seventh with an RBI single that plated Tim Elko.

Razorbacks starter Connor Noland did his best to keep up with DeLucia, pitching eight innings with two earned runs and seven strikeouts. But Arkansas' bats fell silent against DeLucia, who was supported by some strong defense behind him.

Ole Miss had a brief stint as the No. 1 team in the nation this spring until a steep fall from grace due to injuries and a tough run in SEC play. The Rebels were bounced from the SEC Tournament after just one game and were the last team added to the NCAA tournament field.

Now, Ole Miss will have the chance to complete its improbable Cinderella run with a national title.

The College World Series continued Saturday, with two more matchups on tap in Bracket 2 as Arkansas, Stanford, Ole Miss and Auburn looked to move to the winner's side of things.

Below, we'll break down the day's scores and highlights.

Ole Miss Beats Auburn, 5-1

An outstanding pitching performance from Dylan DeLucia carried Mississippi to a 5-1 win over Auburn in the College World Series opener for both teams.

DeLucia gave up one run on four hits and struck out 10 in 7.2 innings. Josh Mallitz closed the game out with 1.1 perfect innings that included three strikeouts.

Auburn's loss dropped national seeds to 0-4 to start the College World Series.

With things on the mound well taken care of, the Rebels offense pounded out 11 hits off Auburn pitching. Kevin Graham led the way by going 3-for-5 with a solo home run and two runs scored.

TJ McCants and Kemp Alderman also drove in runs. Alderman also scored a run on Peyton Chatagnier's double play in the sixth inning.

Auburn right-hander Joseph Gonzalez allowed four runs, his second-most in a start this season. Carson Skipper fared well in relief with four hits and one run allowed with six strikeouts over the final four innings.

The Tigers could only muster four hits. Bobby Peirce drove in their only run with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.

As they attempted to put together a rally in the bottom of the eighth, the Tigers got caught flat-footed when Blake Rambusch got picked off first by Hayden Dunhurst for the final out.

Saturday marks Mississippi's first win at the College World Series since 2014. The Rebels will play Arkansas in the second round on Monday.

Auburn will take on Stanford on Monday in an elimination game.

Arkansas Beats Stanford, 17-2

The Razorbacks left little doubt in their game against the Cardinal.

Arkansas' bats were lively from beginning to end, annihilating Stanford's pitching en route to a 17-2 blowout win.

The Razorbacks peppered the Cardinal with 21 hits and added seven walks, scoring double-digit runs despite having just two homers in the contest from Cayden Wallace and Chris Lanzilli.

Michael Turner finished 4-for-6, while Peyton Stovall had four RBI and Robert Moore reached base five times, scoring three runs.

Connor Noland earned the win, giving up just six hits, a walk and two runs in 7.2 innings, while Stanford's Alex Williams (eight hits, five runs and two walks in 4.1 innings) took the loss.

The Razorbacks blew open a 1-1 game in the top of the fifth, pushing five runs across in the inning. Three runs in the seventh, two in the eighth and six in the ninth ended any comeback hopes the Cardinal might have harbored.

Arkansas now awaits the winner of Ole Miss and Auburn in the winner's bracket, while Stanford will face the loser with its season on the line.

The 2022 College World Series kicked off with a pair of upsets.

The Texas A&M Aggies and Texas Longhorns were two of four national seeds that made it to Omaha, Nebraska, and both teams lost their openers inside Charles Schwab Field.

That could be a bad sign for the Stanford Cardinal and Auburn Tigers, who take to the field on Saturday in the two opening games in the bottom half of the bracket.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Oklahoma Sooners are already through to the winners' bracket in the top side of the bracket. They will play Sunday for the ideal position to come out of the top side.

Texas and Texas A&M renew their rivalry with elimination on the line on Sunday. The winner of that game faces the loser of the Notre Dame-Oklahoma clash.

The same format will be followed in the bottom half, where the second batch of games will take place on Monday.

The updated College World Series bracket can be found here on NCAA.com.

Updated College World Series Schedule

Saturday, June 18

Arkansas vs. Stanford (2 p.m. ET, ESPN)

Ole Miss vs. Auburn (7 p.m. ET, ESPN2)

Sunday, June 19

Texas A&M vs. Texas (2 p.m. ET, ESPN)

Notre Dame vs. Oklahoma (7 p.m. ET, ESPN2)

Championship Prediction

Notre Dame vs. Stanford

Notre Dame proved once again on Friday night that its offense can't be slowed down.

The Fighting Irish put up seven runs against the Texas pitching staff that sent out ace Pete Hansen to start the game.

Notre Dame downed one of the top aces in college baseball for the second straight round. It won the opening game of the Knoxville super regional against Tennessee's Blade Tidwell.

The ACC side carried the momentum gained from upsetting top-seeded Tennessee into Omaha, and a letdown does not appear to be in sight.

Notre Dame needs to cool off the Oklahoma bats that put up 13 runs on Texas A&M on Friday, but that is something it can achieve after it held Texas' offense, which is one of the best in the nation, to three runs.

The Notre Dame-Oklahoma winner will be viewed as the top contender to advance to the championship series from the top half. That team would only need one win over the program that emerges from the losers' bracket.

Link Jarrett's Fighting Irish are playing some of the best baseball in the sport right now, and it is hard to see them stopped at the moment.

Stanford is hoping it can carve out a similar start as Notre Dame and Oklahoma. The Cardinal take on the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday.

The Pac-12 champion could use its bats to get past the first of potentially three SEC foes in the bottom half of the bracket.

Stanford has four players with 18 or more home runs and a potential first-round MLB draft pick in Brock Jones.

The Cardinal could use their bats to power past Arkansas, who used a pair of low-scoring wins to get past North Carolina in the super regional round.

Arkansas proved it could win games with its bats in the regional round, but doing so against Stanford could be a much tougher task.

Stanford has not allowed more than five runs in the NCAA baseball tournament since its opening 20-7 win over Binghamton in the regional round. The Cardinal earned four of their last five wins by holding opponents to four runs or less.

Ole Miss and Auburn achieved a similar level of success in the super regional rounds, but Stanford would be a tougher foe than Southern Miss and Oregon State.

The bottom half of the bracket comes down to how well Stanford can play over the course of multiple games. The Cardinal struggled with that in the first two rounds, as they needed to beat Texas State and UConn twice to advance from each round.

If Stanford avoids a slow start against Arkansas, it can benefit from its combination of strong bats and reliable pitching to make a deep run in Omaha.

College World Series 2022: Championship Bracket and Predictions

The SEC rules the 2022 College World Series, but there is no guarantee of a team from the conference hoisting the trophy in Omaha, Nebraska.

The path to the final is difficult for three of those programs since they reside on the same side of the bracket.

Only one of Arkansas, Auburn and Ole Miss could advance to the championship series out of the bottom half of the eight-team group.

All of those SEC West programs have to go through the Stanford Cardinal, who are the highest national seed left in the bracket.

Stanford is one of four national seeds that made it through the regional and super regional rounds to get to Omaha. Texas A&M, Texas and Auburn are the others.

Texas A&M is the SEC's lone hope in the top side of the bracket. Future SEC members Oklahoma and Texas are in that part of the bracket along with Notre Dame, who upset top seed Tennessee in the super regional round.

The field appears to be wide open since most of the College World Series qualifiers needed three games to advance out of both rounds.

Texas A&M might be the favored team based on its performances in the first two rounds of the NCAA baseball tournament.

The Aggies were the only team from the first two rounds to win all their games at home. Ole Miss went 5-0, but it traveled to Miami and Southern Miss for those contests.

The full College World Series bracket and TV schedule can be found here on NCAA.com.

Predictions

Texas A&M Establishes Dominance In Top Half Of Bracket

Texas A&M used a clean sweep of the first two rounds to advance to Omaha.

The Aggies had 32 runs in the regional round to beat Oral Roberts, Louisiana and TCU.

The bats kept rolling against Louisville in the super regional round, as the Aggies produced nine runs and a pair of home runs to get past the ACC side.

A&M opens the College World Series against Oklahoma with a fresh set of arms and in-form bats.

That is the best combination of factors to go into Omaha with. The Aggies are prepared to run through the top part of the bracket and are fresh enough to go through the losers' bracket.

A&M should get past an Oklahoma team that conceded a few high run totals over the last two weeks.

The Sooners allowed 11 runs in a Game 2 super regional loss to Virginia Tech, and they allowed seven runs in their only regional loss against Florida.

Oklahoma did not allow more than four runs in any of its NCAA tournament victories, but the two high concessions can create enough worry to not trust it against A&M.

Texas A&M can absorb a bad appearance from one of its starters with a fresh bullpen. The Aggies used three pitchers in each Game 1 of the last two rounds. They have no problem asking for multiple innings out of key relievers. Joseph Menefee gave up five hits and one earned run in 5.1 innings of relief to bridge the gap between starters and closer.

A potential second-round matchup with Notre Dame or Texas will not be easy, but A&M will not have to face Longhorns ace Pete Hansen, and it has experience outslugging the Big 12 side from a 12-9 regular-season win. Notre Dame could be a tough foe, but if A&M limits its home run concessions, it stands a good chance to win that contest.

A&M has to be viewed as the favorite in the top bracket, and depending on what happens in the bottom, it could be the SEC's best hope to take home a title.

Top Power Bats Shine in Bottom Half Of Bracket

The bottom half of the bracket could be a showcase of the nation's best sluggers.

Auburn's Sonny DiChiara, Ole Miss' Tim Elko and Brock Jones from Stanford are three of the best hitters in college baseball.

DiChiara, Elko, Jones and Stanford's Carter Graham all hit over 20 home runs this season. Each player will be a nightmare to get out for the opposing pitching staff.

Stanford could be the most dangerous team of it, Auburn, Ole Miss and Arkansas because it comes into Omaha off a 30-run output against UConn in the super regional round.

The Pac-12 side produced 72 runs over the first two rounds of the postseason. a streak that started with a 20-2 shellacking of Binghamton.

None of the four teams in the bottom half possesses the best slugger left in the tournament. Texas' Ivan Melendez leads the nation with 32 home runs.

But the collection of offensive talent spread across the four teams could produce more offensive fireworks in Saturday's opening-round games compared to Friday's clashes.

Arkansas unleashed 44 runs on the Stillwater regional and then bested North Carolina with its pitching, Ole Miss blanked Southern Miss 15-0 over two games in the last round, and Auburn totaled 65 runs over six postseason games.

The top arms on each pitching staff have the potential to slow down each offense, but that does not seem likely given the massive totals produced over the first two rounds.

If that is the case, the 2022 College World Series could open in similar fashion to last year's edition.

One side of the bracket produced 27 runs in two opening games, while the other side had six runs out of Virginia and three from the other three teams.

College World Series 2022: TV Schedule and Predictions from Omaha

The eight-team field for the 2022 College World Series looks significantly different from what was expected when the NCAA baseball tournament began.

The top-seeded Tennessee Volunteers were upended in the super regional round by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, which are one of four unseeded teams to make it all the way to Omaha, Nebraska.

Two seeds from each side of the bracket advanced to the double-elimination tournament that begins on Friday at Charles Schwab Field.

The Stanford Cardinal are the highest remaining seed, and they are one of two teams left, along with Notre Dame, that have no connection to the SEC.

The SEC is sending four teams to Omaha while two future members, Oklahoma and Texas, also emerged from the super regional round.

Notre Dame, Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma make up the top half of the bracket, while Stanford, Arkansas, Ole Miss and Auburn reside on the bottom half.

Oklahoma and Texas A&M kick off the opening slate of games on Friday afternoon, and the full College World Series schedule can be found at NCAA.com.

Notre Dame Continues String Of Upsets

Notre Dame entered the tournament as a team that was snubbed for one of the 16 regional hosting sites.

That did not deter the Fighting Irish, though, as they went 5-1 against mostly power-conference opposition to reach Omaha.

Notre Dame beat Texas Tech twice and defeated Georgia Southern once to get through the Statesboro regional.

The Irish stunned Tennessee in Game 1 of the Knoxville super regional and then won the deciding Game 3 by four runs.

Notre Dame will face one of the toughest opening matchups in Omaha against Texas ace Pete Hansen, who has 11 wins and 115 strikeouts this season.

The Irish will be considered an underdog against one of the best aces in the country, but they can draw on their recent experience to move into the winners' bracket.

Link Jarrett's team tagged Tennessee's Blade Tidwell for five earned runs in seven hits over the first three innings of the Knoxville super regional.

Notre Dame used six home runs in its two victories over Tennessee, and it could utilize the long ball against Hansen to knock the left-handed pitcher out of the game early.

Hansen gave up five earned runs on seven hits and an additional unearned run over four innings in his Game 1 start of the Greenville super regional against East Carolina.

The Pirates used the long ball to their advantage in the fourth and fifth innings of Game 1 to open up a five-run advantage.

Notre Dame might need to use home runs to chase Hansen and keep pace with whatever the Texas offense produces. The Longhorns have the NCAA home run leader, Ivan Melendez, on their roster.

If Notre Dame is able to get to Hansen early, it could level out the matchup on the mound and push the team into the winners' bracket on Friday night.

Stanford Survives SEC Teams In Bracket

Stanford has to go through an SEC gauntlet to reach the championship series.

The Cardinal are paired with Arkansas, Ole Miss and Auburn in the bottom half of the bracket and will need their bats to step up to match up with each opponent.

Stanford posted 30 runs over three games against UConn at home in the super regional round and scored 20 runs over a three-game stretch in the regional round to advance after an opening loss to Texas State.

The Pac-12 side has the bats to keep pace with the three SEC sides, and an argument can be made that it has the best collection of offensive talent left in the tournament.

Outfielder Brock Jones is a projected first-round pick, with Jim Callis of MLB.com having him go at No. 26 in his latest mock draft.

The 21-year-old headlines a lineup that has four players who bat over .300 and four players with 18 or more home runs.

The other teams in the bottom part of the bracket have impressive individual talent at the plate, such as Ole Miss' Tim Elko and Auburn's Sonny DiChiara, but those offenses are not as well-rounded as the others.

Stanford could use its bats to power past Arkansas in the opening round and the Ole Miss-Auburn winner in the second round.

The Cardinal need to avoid an early loss, like they had in the first two rounds of the tournament. And as long as they get off to a strong start, they should make a deep run in Omaha.

Zach Collier's CWS National Anthem Performance Canceled After 'Horns Down' Gesture

Not only will the "Horns Down" gesture on the football field likely be punishable by a 15-yard penalty, but it might also cost you a notable singing gig.

The NCAA confirmed to ESPN's Dave Wilson that Zach Collier was denied the opportunity to perform the national anthem at the men's College World Series because he did the Horns Down before a women's College World Series softball game between Texas and Oklahoma State:

The performance of the national anthem during NCAA championship events is a solemn moment for reflection and mutual respect for all championship participants and fans in attendance. Following his national anthem performance during the Women's College World Series—during which the performer inappropriately supported one participating team, taunted the other team, and disrupted participating student-athletes and coaches by attempting to interact with them—he was asked not to perform during the Men's College World Series.

Collier is a graduate of Texas A&M and told Wilson he wanted to engage in a little friendly banter with an in-state rival.

"I'm an Aggie; Texas was playing," he said. "I was going to give them a 'Go Pokes' and then a Horns Down after the anthem. And that's exactly what I did. And three hours after I sang the anthem, I got an email saying that I wasn't scheduled to sing for the men's College World Series anymore."

Every attempt to root out Horns Down is a perfect case of the Streisand effect in action. Tell a fan or player they can't do something to goad the opposition, and it will only want to make them do that thing more.

Collier, for one, was unrepentant and told Wilson: "I don't think anybody's going to stop me from doing it."
