Week 2 of the NBA 2K League season tipped off with a pair of sweeps and ended with a pair of Game 3s on Tuesday.

Bucks Gaming and Raptors Uprising GC continued to establish their dominance, while Heat Check Gaming and Blazers Gaming played tightly contested battles. Here's how the action shaped up:

Results:

Bucks Gaming def. Cavs Legion GC: 72-66, 63-54

Raptors Uprising GC def. Grizz Gaming: 98-61, 84-62

Heat Check Gaming def. Wizards District Gaming: 65-52, 49-65, 69-62

Blazers Gaming def. Pacers Gaming: 66-70, 67-54, 79-69

Recap:

Reggie Nash Jr. was arguably the most dominant player on the sticks.

The Bucks Gaming scorer finished with 85 points in two games, reaching the 40 mark in both contests as Milwaukee earned the sweep. Even more impressive was the consistent efficiency of Regg's buckets. After shooting 17-of-30 from the field in Game 1, he came right back to knock down 17 of 27 attempts in Game 2.

Arooks was the only other Bucks player to score in double figures, notching 12 points in Game 1 and another 10 in Game 2.

Compare that to a Raptors team that spread the ball around. Toronto had all five players reach double figures in Game 1 and missed repeating the feat by just three points in Game 2. Kenny Got Work led the way in both matches, combining for 54 points.

After going off for 37 points in Game 1 against the Wizards, Heat Check's point guard, GlennRatty, posted back-to-back 27-point performances in Games 2 and 3. Miami needed those efforts, as Washington nearly erased a 15-point deficit in the fourth quarter of Game 3 before running out of time.

As for the Pacers, this will be a night they hope to forget. Not only did the team hold home-court advantage, but it also won Game 1 and looked like it would claim the third sweep of the day.

That was until the Blazers came roaring back with a 13-point win in Game 2 and another double-digit victory in Game 3.

The 2K League will pick up Wednesday with Heat Check, Knicks Gaming, Hawks Talon GC, Grizz Gaming, Warriors Gaming Squad, 76ers GC, Mavs Gaming and Lakers Gaming all in action starting at 7 p.m. ET and steaming live on Twitch and YouTube.

Thursday was the third night of action in the 2020 NBA 2K League season with four matchups on tap, including the defending champion T-Wolves Gaming in action.

Below, we'll break down the scores and top performances and highlights from the night's action.

Results

Mavs Gaming def. Heat Check Gaming: 73-48, 61-58

Hawks Talon def. T-Wolves Gaming: 82-52, 78-62

Kings Guard Gaming def. Lakers Gaming: 64-60, 64-56

Warriors Gaming def. Gen.G Tigers: 89-79, 68-73, 70-68

Recap

Good luck slowing down BP.

The Hawks Talon star went for 37 points and nine assists in his team's Game 1 win and another 25 points in Game 2 as Hawks Talon absolutely smoked the defending champion T-Wolves Gaming. It was as impressive performance as we've seen in the young 2020 season.

The scoring was nice. So were the dimes.

In the other game in the early slot, Mavs Gaming knocked off Heat Check Gaming, moving to 2-0 on the season. There are big expectations for the Mavs after their 12-4 record a year ago. Sherm led the way, scoring 25 points in the tight second game.

Dimez also lived up to his name with this pass:

Kings Guard took down Warriors Gaming in the late-night time slot, led by a strong performance from Seemo, who went off for 23 points in Game 1. The Kings erased deficits in both games to come back for the wins.

Gen.G Tigers vs. Warriors Gaming was the only matchup to go three games on the night, with Warriors coming out victorious in an incredibly tight third game that came down the final possession.

Gen.G had a chance to win with a layup at the rim, only for it to bounce off. They got the rebound with 0.2 seconds remaining and called timeout, but the lob to the rim on the inbounds pass sailed out of bounds, ending the game.

It was nonetheless a heck of a showing for the expansion Tigers, as they took a tough Warriors team down to the wire.

The 2020 Fortnite World Cup is the latest sporting event scrapped due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Fortnite Competitive made the official announcement Thursday, adding that all remaining competitions scheduled for 2020 would move to an online-only format.

Last year's World Cup at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York sold out all 23,700 seats and was streamed by more than 2.3 million viewers, per Variety. Kyle "Bugha" Giersdorf, 16, took home the top prize in 2019, earning $3 million for his victory.

There will be no title defense in 2020, and the possibility of a return in 2021 is too far down the line to forecast.

The governing body said it would like to host the World Cup next year, but without knowing when a return to large-scale events will be possible, it is holding off on making any declarations.

Fortnite Competitive will try to supplement the loss of the World Cup with other online tournaments in the meantime.

The game remains one of the most popular by both players and viewers with live streams of matches flooding services like Twitch and Mixer.

With the World Cup canceled, the game is working on more formats for players around the world to show off their talents and move up different ranking boards.

Still, it won't have the draw of the title event, which in 2019 featured a prize pool of $30 million.

Tommy Kahnle surged in the standings in the American League East, Jeff McNeil remained the player to beat in the National League East and Lucas Giolito grabbed first in the American League Central after another wild night of the MLB 20 The Show Players League.

After starting two games under .500, Kahnle (7-5) went 4-0 on Friday to pull within three games of Blake Snell (10-2). It required an extra-inning victory against Giolito in the third game of the night, but the Yankees hurler unlocked his team's powerful lineup to complete an unstoppable run.

Early on, it seemed like Giolito had the team to beat. The White Sox ace won his first two games easily and got off to a good start against Kahnle—reaching base with Tim Anderson in each of his at-bats, allowing him to earn some early run support.

However, Kahnle—Giolito's former teammate in Chicago—squashed those positive vibes, smashing a walk-off three-run homer with Aaron Hicks to complete an undefeated evening.

There's no question Giolito had the better game presentation, however. The hurler linked with White Sox play-by-play broadcaster Jason Benetti, who spent the first three matches announcing the games in real time.

The players league resumes at 9 p.m. ET Saturday with all games streaming live on Twitch.

Professional golfer Bryson DeChambeau won the first weekly #PlayApartTogether Tournament, which consisted of athletes and professional gamers battling in a Fortnite single-elimination competition, and won $25,000 for a charity of his choice dedicated to COVID-19 relief.

Facebook Gaming, in conjunction with Greenlit Content, held the tournament.

Tinaraes had four eliminations in her two final games, meaning DeChambeau needed five for the win:

DeChambeau's funniest highlight was arguably his unsurprising use of a golf club:

DeChambeau took down Houston Astros pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. in the semifinals. On the other side of the bracket, Tinaraes defeated Los Angeles Lakers center JaVale McGee to advance to the final round.

As far as future tournaments go, Palmer Haasch of Insider.com offered the following insight for viewers and competitors alike:

"During each tournament stream, viewers will also be able to donate money to the United Nations Foundation's COVID-19 fundraiser for the WHO via Facebook donation tools.

"The list of competitors includes: Andre Drummond, Dwight Howard, and JaVale McGee from the NBA; Justin Herbert, Christian McCaffrey, Joe Burrow, and Jarvis Landry of the NFL; the WWE's Ron 'The Truth' Killings; Alex Bregman and Lance McCullers of the MLB; PGA golfer Bryson DeChambeau; and influencer Jen Selter."

Master P even got in the mix this week:

But it was the five-time PGA Tour winner who took home the first title.

Riot Games' New Title, Valorant, Looks Like CS:GO and Overwatch Hybrid

Mar 2, 2020

On Sunday night, Riot Games revealed the first details about its new free-to-play first-person shooter title, Valorant, coming this summer. Previously codenamed "Project A," Valorant is a five-versus-five character-based game in which players control a cast of characters with unique abilities.

From the gameplay trailer Riot released, the premise is a bit of mix between Valve's Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Blizzard's Overwatch. Players select one character from a roster of 12 that Riot hopes to have at launch. According to Game Informer, the first build had eight characters, including Brimstone, a commander who uses incendiary grenades and airstrikes, and Jett, a fighter who has a dash and smoke-bomb ability.

Players load into the game, where they are given money to purchase guns and items for that round in the Buy Phase. At the end of each round, teams are given more money (with the winning team getting more) to buy better weapons. Each character seems to have abilities that you can also buy at the start of the round and, from some CS:GO professionals who got early access to test Valorant, are purely tactical in nature.

Riot is focusing heavily on the competitive Valorant scene with a commitment to what they believe are the fundamentals to a competitive shooter. Riot outlined on the official Valorant website what it thinks a shooter should have, at a minimum, to convince people to invest, including "128-tick servers, at least 30 frames per second on most min-spec computers, 60 to 144 FPS on modern gaming rigs" and "a global spread of datacenters" to provide at least 35ms for players in major global cities.

Riot also mentioned commitment to anti-cheat technology from the very beginning, a known problem for other titles in the genre.

Senior software engineer Paul Chamberlain told Game Informer:

"Cheating is the most direct threat to competitive integrity that an online game can face. We want players to play this game for a long time. We want them to invest in getting good at the game. We've made the game so there's lots of different ways that you can invest your time to get better in the game, but no one's going to want to do that if you're still going to be overshadowed by someone who's cheating–or even the reverse where you get good, but everyone just thinks you're a cheater."

The official announcement of Valorant comes at an interesting time for Riot Games. At the end of last year when the company celebrated League of Legends' 10th anniversary, Riot teased new details about a plethora of games it was working on, including Valorant (known then as Project A). Other titles included its card game, Legends of Runeterra (currently in beta), a mobile version of League of Legends called Wild Rift and an unnamed action RPG.

Rainbow Six Siege Devs Want to Go Free-to-Play Someday

Feb 25, 2020

Rainbow Six Siege could be switching to a free-to-play model.

In an interview with PC Gamer, Rainbow Six Siege director Leroy Athanassoff said that he and the rest of the development team support the idea.

"It's a company decision," Athanassoff said. "I think on the development team we want that at some point. We want the game to be accessible to everyone."

Although Athanassoff wants the change to happen, he also recognizes the challenges that come with moving to a completely free-to-play model, citing specifically problems around smurfing, a practice when experienced players create new accounts to play against lesser-skilled players.

"What's important for us is that we find out as soon as possible that a player is highly skilled in the things that matter," Athanassoff said. "The problem right now is that you can play a certain amount of matches with Copper players while you're a Diamond."

The Siege development team thinks the solution lies somewhere in taking more statistics into account and reacting to skill gaps faster. Currently, Siege's ranking system uses a player's win rate when matchmaking; increased stats would help create a more complex picture when addressing the problems free-to-play games have with smurfing.

Rainbow Six Siege is enjoying a bit of popularity boost at the moment. On Monday, the game set a new concurrent player record on Steam, hitting more than 178,000 players on Steam Charts. This new peak breaks the previous record of 176,206 in March 2018 after the release of the Operation Chimera update.

Microsoft Reveals More Details About Xbox Series X Specs

Feb 24, 2020

Microsoft announced new details about the Xbox Series X's specs Monday, notably sharing new information about the next-generation console's processing power and backward-compatibility.

The Xbox Series X will feature a "next generation custom processor" that uses AMD's latest Zen 2 and RDNA 2 architectures. Microsoft stated the new processor will provide "four times the processing power of an Xbox One." This will allow developers to leverage 12 teraflops of processing power, marking a significant increase from past consoles—double that of the Xbox One X and more than eights times the power of the original Xbox One.

Microsoft shared more info about the Xbox Series X's solid-state drive and Quick Resume feature in an effort to attack long loading times.

"The new Quick Resume feature lets you continue multiple games from a suspended state almost instantly, returning you to where you were and what you were doing, without waiting through long loading screens," Microsoft said in the announcement.

Finally, Microsoft revealed more details about backward-compatibility, confirming that four generations of Xbox games (all the way back to the original Xbox console) will be playable on the Series X. In particular, Microsoft highlighted Smart Delivery, a new feature that ensures a player will only have to purchase a game that uses Smart Delivery once on Xbox One or Xbox Series X.

On Monday, CD Projekt Red announced that it will use the Smart Delivery feature for the much-anticipated Cyberpunk 2077. If you choose to buy Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox One, and you later buy an Xbox Series X, you will automatically get a free Series X game upgrade.

Ronda Rousey has begun a new venture in the gaming world, signing a deal to make her own stream with Facebook Gaming, according to TMZ Sports.

The WWE Superstar and former UFC champion officially announced the news in a Twitter video Thursday:

"Gaming has always been a huge part of my life, and I can't wait to share that passion with my millions of fans on Facebook Gaming," Rousey said in a statement, via TMZ. "Through my streams, people can hang out with the real me, not the 'character' version of myself they’re used to seeing, though the 'Rowdy One' can't always be contained."

The "Baddest Stream on the Planet" is set to debut next Monday as she plays Pokemon Sword and Shield.

Facebook Gaming has been aggressively trying to sign notable video game stars recently, including Jeremy "Disguised Toast" Wang, Corinna Kopf, and Gonzalo "Zero" Barrios, per Nathan Grayson of Kotaku. But Rousey represents a celebrity entering the gaming world instead of establishing herself online first.

She also voiced Sonya Blade in Mortal Kombat 11.

Meanwhile, it's another way for Rousey to stay in the spotlight after going nearly a year since her last WWE match at WrestleMania.

Stephanie McMahon said recently she hopes the star will return by WrestleMania 37 in 2021.

Tyler Blevins, better known as esports star Ninja, is reportedly bringing in a head-turning amount of money on the contract he signed with Mixer.

Blevins announced his decision to leave Twitch for Mixer in August, shaking up the esports world, and is reportedly making between $20 million and $30 million for the multiyear deal. Justin Warden, CEO of the marketing and talent management agency Ader, which works with Ninja, revealed as much to Shannon Liao of CNN Business.

Ninja's agency, Loaded, did not release the terms of the contract.

Liao noted Blevins previously said he made approximately $10 million in 2018. The celebrity also has deals with Adidas and Red Bull and wrote a book.

"Now the streaming wars have begun," Devin Nash, the chief marketing officer at talent agency N3RDFUSION, said of the recent tendency of gamers to move from Twitch to other platforms. "But it took someone to fire the first shot. That was Ninja."

Liao pointed out "the talent exodus from Twitch appears to have picked up speed in recent months. And it largely started with a single departure."

Blevins apparently cashed in on that departure.
