The NASCAR Cup Series heads to one of the most difficult tracks on the circuit Sunday.

Talladega Superspeedway is one of two super speedways on the schedule, and it poses challenges for even the most experienced drivers.

Joe Gibbs Racing could have an advantage from the start, as Martin Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch were drawn into the first three positions on the starting grid.

Since finding drafting partners can be difficult, those three should be considered the favorites to win at least the first stage while other combinations of racers scramble to link up.

Talladega has lived up to its reputation as one of the most unpredictable tracks recently, as six drivers have won the past six events.

Chase Elliott and Ryan Blaney captured the 2019 races in Alabama. Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, Aric Almirola and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. are the other recent champions.

Of that group, Keselowski has been the most successful driver at the race track, recording five victories.

Even though the No. 2 car driver has a strong history at the track, he believes you have to keep adapting to it, per NBC Sports' Daniel McFadin:

"You have to keep evolving at Talladega. I don't know if there's a track on the circuit where the tactics evolve more rapidly and drastically year over year than Talladega, so you've just got to really try to stay on top of that and it's a hard thing to do. Sometimes you can stay on top of the tactics and it doesn't matter and you end up getting wrecked anyway, but it certainly is a challenging, challenging place."

The Team Penske competitor has to be considered one of the favorites to win along with the Joe Gibbs cars since he begins the race in sixth place. Keselowski may have to wait a few laps for teammates Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney to reach him for drafting help, but he should be able to maneuver through the early stages.

Since they have had success at Talladega, the trio of Penske drivers are expected to challenge the Joe Gibbs racers.

The other combinations to look out for are the Hendrick Motorsports collection of Jimmie Johnson, Alex Bowman and Elliott, as well as the Stewart-Haas Racing cars of Kevin Harvick, Clint Bowyer and Almirola.

As the race goes on, you will see members of other teams combine to push forward, but the in-team relationships will be important. The result could come down to something as simple as which team has the most drivers left in a race that could be littered with cautions.

The unpredictability makes it hard to land on a single bet for Sunday, but the most trusted competitors should be those with the most experience and success at Talladega, such as Keselowski

NASCAR at Kansas 2020 Results: Brad Keselowski Earns 2nd Win in Last 3 Races

Brad Keselowski started where he finished as the pole-sitter won the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee, on Sunday.

That did not look likely with two laps remaining as Joey Logano and Chase Elliott fought for the lead. However, the two ended up hitting the wall as Elliott tried to pass:

Logano was not pleased, as Kelly Crandall of RACER noted:

Jeff Gluck of The Athletic provided his take:

Logano and Elliott spoke with each other in a heated discussion after the race:

And Logano was blunt in his assessment of the incident in an interview:

Elliott took the blame when Fox Sports spoke with him:

Logano and Elliott finished 21st and 22nd, respectively. Their wreck allowed Clint Bowyer to come out of nowhere and finish second.

Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch and Erik Jones rounded out the top five, per NASCAR.com. Austin Dillon, Kurt Busch, William Byron, Christopher Bell and Bubba Wallace ended sixth through 10th.

As for the winner, Keselowski reigned victorious for his second race in three tries after winning the Coca-Cola 600 last Sunday in Charlotte, North Carolina.

A race that finished with 17 cautions contained plenty of action, and here's a look at how all three stages went down at the first short-track race of the NASCAR Cup Series season.

Stage 1

Chase Elliott won the first stage despite the Penske Racing team largely dominating for the first 125 laps.

Keselowski took pole position and largely stayed in first for much of the stage, but teammate Ryan Blaney passed him late:

Elliott chased down Blaney with 20 laps left, though, and took the stage win home.

The rest of the top 10 went as follows, per Jeff Gluck of The Athletic:

The first stage largely ran smooth, with the only non-competition caution occurring when Ryan Newman spun out. He sustained no major damage and was able to rejoin the lead lap.

It was surprising to see such a clean race, with Brian Eberly of Motorsports Tribune noting the following:

All 40 cars that began the race were still in it by the time the first stage was completed.

Stage 2

Calm turned to chaos in the second stage, with numerous crashes halting action and forcing drivers out of the race.

Blaney ran into some trouble on the top lane and spun out. Unfortunately, Ty Dillon had nowhere to go and slammed into the corner of Blaney's bumper, knocking him out of the race, as well.

Blaney spoke with Fox Sports about the wreck soon afterward:

Blaney and Dillon weren't the only victims on the short track Sunday, with Jimmie Johnson running into the back of Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and causing a crash that involved eight drivers:

The first red flag of the race then flew. In addition to Stenhouse and Johnson, Alex Bowman, Ryan Preece, Cole Custer, Matt DiBenedetto, Tyler Reddick and Kurt Busch were involved.

Gluck provided some context for the crash cause:

Reddick, Custer, Bowman and Stenhouse's days were done after the crash, per Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports.

After the dust settled, Elliott finished as the stage winner once again:

The rest of the top 10 went as follows:

Stage 3

Order was largely restored in the third stage, save for a couple of hairy moments that included Ryan Newman spinning out but somehow avoiding the wall:

Joe Gibbs Racing led the pack for much of the stage, with Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch each taking first on two separate occasions.

JGR is no stranger to short-track success, per NASCAR researcher Matt Willis:

Per Pockrass, Hamlin stayed out when others went to pit road following the second stage, enabling him to overtake Elliott.

Elliott appeared to be ready to take over the lead from Hamlin, but timing was not his friend as a caution came out for Gray Gaulding, keeping Hamlin in front, according to Performance Racing Network:

The order turned into more chaos, though, when a six-car crash occurred involving Newman, Aric Almirola, Martin Truex Jr., Erik Jones, Bubba Wallace and Michael McDowell.

That occurred with 29 laps left, setting up an exciting finish.

Hamlin held on for dear life but could not finish in front after a wreck with 11 laps turned him around:

It appeared that one of Logano or Elliott would be the victor at that point, but it was not meant to be as Keselowski swooped in for the win.

Kevin Harvick has been the most consistent driver through five races of the 2020 NASCAR season, and on Wednesday, he faces the toughest task yet to extend his lead in the points standings.

The 44-year-old and the other racers face the grueling physical test of racing twice in four days at Darlington Raceway.

The driver of the No. 4 car has to fend off challenges from some teams that looked strong Sunday and find a way to reach first from the 20th starting position, which is not easy to do at the South Carolina circuit.

Wednesday's starting grid was inverted from the top-20 finishers from Sunday's race, so Ryan Preece, who ended up in 20th, sits on the pole.

The second half of Wednesday's starting lineup was determined by finishing position, which means William Byron and Jimmie Johnson will begin the race in 34th and 37th, respectively.

Harvick will return to Darlington with the car he won Sunday's race in.

The Stewart-Haas Racing driver did not suffer much damage to his vehicle because he was out in front for 159 of the 293 laps.

Harvick's crew chief Rodney Childers confirmed the decision to NBC Sports' Dustin Long.

"Bringing the same car back," Childers said. "Not even taking springs and shocks off the car. Just taking it like we ended but will fix a few things."

Harvick's toughest competition Sunday came from the four Hendrick Motorsports cars.

Johnson was in line to capture the first stage before an accident took him out of the race, Byron took the Stage 1 victory before suffering damage, Bowman ended up second overall, and Chase Elliott finished fourth.

Elliott and Bowman have the best chances to win from that quartet since they start within the top 20.

Only two drivers who started from positions No. 30-40 Sunday finished in the top 20, and it could be tougher for Byron and Johnson to achieve that with 64 fewer laps in Wednesday's 500-kilometer race.

Given the shorter race length and complexities of passing at Darlington, more pit strategies could be utilized to move up the grid.

Kyle Busch may join Byron and Johnson as drivers who try a different pit sequence to reach the front.

Busch entered Darlington with a pair of top-five and top-10 finishes, but a start from the back of the field and a few other issues kept him from extending that streak.

At the front of the field, Brad Keselowski may be in the best position to control Wednesday night's race.

The No. 2 car led 80 laps—the second-highest total behind Harvick—but dropped back to 13th after struggling in the final stage.

If Keselowski's team makes the proper adjustments, he could surge forward from eighth and set the pace.

His Team Penske teammate, Joey Logano, could have an extended spell up top as well, as he begins the race in third.

Logano is the only driver with two wins this season, and he could benefit from running in the front alongside teammates Keselowski and Ryan Blaney, who starts fifth.

Rookies Tyler Reddick (+6,000) and John Hunter Nemechek (+20,000) could be the best long-shot bets for Wednesday after they both finished in the top 10.

Reddick was a consistent fixture in the top 10 Sunday, and Nemechek used a late push to end up in ninth.

NASCAR's two-month layoff ends Sunday with the Real Heroes 400 at Darlington Raceway.

Sunday's race is the first of two over a four-day span at the South Carolina track, and it kicks off a 10-day stretch with a quartet of competitions at Darlington and Charlotte.

Darlington was selected to host the first race since the season was suspended amid the COVID-19 pandemic in part because of its proximity to the race shops in the Charlotte area.

As part of the sport's health and safety plan, teams will follow social distancing guidelines and only spend Sunday at the track.

Brad Keselowski, who won at Darlington in 2018, was drawn into the pole position and Alex Bowman will start alongside him on the front row.

Sunday's 400-mile competition will last 293 laps and is broken up into three stages, which is the format typically used for NASCAR races.

The first stage will consist of 90 laps and the second stage is set to conclude at Lap 185, which makes the final stage 108 laps.

In addition to being chosen for its proximity to race shops, Darlington is a similar track to Homestead-Miami Speedway, which was supposed to be the next site on the schedule before the season was put on hold.

The similarities allowed the teams to use intermediate-track cars that were already prepared in March.

The drivers at the front of the field should have an advantage since the previous seven champions at Darlington have started in the top 15.

Keselowski could remain in front for long stretches. He ranks fourth in laps led through four races, and the first stage may serve as an adjustment process for drivers on track for the first time in two months.

A handful of drivers have participated in iRacing events, but Sunday marks the first time they will be inside a car since March.

Keselowski and Joey Logano, who has two victories in 2020, could have the best betting value among the pre-race favorites at +900 and +1000, respectively.

Logano starts ninth and captured first place at Las Vegas and Phoenix. He is looking for his first triumph at Darlington.

Kyle Busch has not won at Darlington since 2008, but he led the most laps at the Southern 500 in 2019. The pre-race favorite could carve a path to the front right away from the second row.

Busch's Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr. have won at Darlington in the last four years, but neither will start as high up as the driver of the No. 18 car.

Defending champion Erik Jones faces a steep climb from the 20th starting position. He has a single top-10 finish in 2020.

The returns of Ryan Newman and Matt Kenseth will also be worth watching Sunday.

Newman is back inside the No. 6 car for the first time since his horrific wreck at the Daytona 500.

Kenseth is making his first start since the 2018 season finale in the No. 42 car as a replacement for Kyle Larson, who was fired by Chip Ganassi Racing for using a racial slur during an iRacing competition in April.

Kenseth could be a dark horse candidate to win, as he starts 10th and is a previous champion at Darlington from 2013.

NASCAR at Phoenix 2020 Results: Joey Logano Holds Off Kevin Harvick for OT Win

Joey Logano prevailed in overtime at Phoenix Raceway on Sunday afternoon.

The No. 22 car led for 60 laps and held off Kevin Harvick down the stretch in overtime. It was a sour case of deja vu for Harvick, who had also finished in second place behind Chase Elliott for the pole during Saturday's qualifying.

Harvick can feel good about being the only driver with a top-10 finish in every Cup Series race through the season's first four races, though.

The caution flag waved with three laps to go thanks to John Hunter Nemechek and Ricky Stenhouse Jr., pushing the race into overtime. NASCAR's overtime consists of a two-lap shootout.

Logano also earned the checkered flag at the Pennzoil 400 in Las Vegas—his second straight year winning that event—on Feb. 23. The Team Penske driver entered the FanShield 500 ranked second behind Ryan Blaney in 2020 Cup Series points.

Logano has already matched his win total from all of last year.

Elliott led for a race-high 93 laps. The Hendrick Motorsports No. 9 car finished in seventh place to follow up his fourth-place result at the Auto Club 400 last weekend.

There will be several drivers leaving Phoenix much more disappointed than the 24-year-old.

Blaney's day ended during the 64th lap when his Team Penske No. 12 car collided with Daytona 500 winner Denny Hamlin and Brad Keselowski:

Harvick won Stage 1—his first-ever stage win at Phoenix—while Keselowski rebounded from the crash to capture Stage 2:

Keselowski, who led for 82 laps, was far from pleased to only claim a stage victory:

Rookie Tyler Reddick started the race in 29th but finished Stage 2 in fourth place. The 24-year-old was at one point in second place and primed to challenge for the checkered flag until he crashed into the wall to end his run with 47 laps to go in regulation:

Reddick blamed his 33rd-place finish on a "rookie mistake" during the broadcast, but Martin Truex Jr., who had to start from the rear because of an engine change, blamed his race-ending wreck on Aric Almirola:

There was reason for everybody to feel good, however, as Ryan Newman was present at the track. Newman suffered head injuries during a violent crash in the Daytona 500's final lap and was subsequently hospitalized. Ross Chastain has taken over Newman's Roush Fenway Racing No. 6 car, and Newman was a member of Chastain's in-race crew:

Chastain placed 23rd, but as he said prior to the race, his main concern is getting Newman back in the No. 6:

Chastain's result is more along the lines of how country music star Blake Shelton jokingly predicted Clint Bowyer, who placed fifth, would fare:

All told, nobody will arrive at Atlanta Motor Speedway for next Sunday's Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 feeling better than Logano.

NASCAR at Las Vegas 2020 Results: Joey Logano Wins Race for 2nd Straight Year

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - FEBRUARY 23: Joey Logano, driver of the #22 Pennzoil Ford, celebrates in Victory Lane after winning the NASCAR Cup Series Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on February 23, 2020 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Matt Sullivan/Getty Images)

Joey Logano is the back-to-back Pennzoil 400 champion after his No. 22 Pennzoil car claimed Sunday afternoon's 2020 running of the race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Logano improved dramatically from placing 26th at last week's Daytona 500 and clinched his first 2020 NASCAR Cup Series points. Matt DiBenedetto came in second place and secured Wood Brothers Racing's first top-five finish since June 2018.

Chase Elliott won Stage 1 and Stage 2 to capture three of four stages to start this season. However, Elliott encountered issues down the stretch that he couldn't recover from:

Elliott arrived at the checkered flag 26th, an even worse result than his disappointing 17th-place Daytona 500 finish.

Kyle Busch was set to begin on the pole based on 2019 points after Saturday's qualifying round was canceled because of rain, but his No. 18 was forced to start from the field's rear alongside reigning back-to-back Daytona 500 champion Denny Hamlin and No. 95 Christopher Bell:

Kevin Harvick assumed pole position as a result. Harvick led for 92 laps—the most of anybody in the field—but was not in front when it mattered most.

Outside the top-10 finishers, Ross Chastain finished in 27th behind Elliott. Chastain started in the No. 6 car for the injured Ryan Newman, who suffered a head injury in a gruesome crash late in the Daytona 500:

Chastain impacted the race beyond his individual result because he spun out at Turn 2 to bring out the caution flag and necessitate a restart within the final five laps. Logano benefitted from the restart:

The caution flag waved again in the race's final moments, which caused some confusion:

Like Elliott, who led for 70 laps, Ryan Blaney will leave Las Vegas plenty frustrated. Blaney entered the Pennzoil 400 having come up just short in a second-place showing at Daytona. The No. 12 car barely missed the top-10 on Sunday, finishing 11th after being in the lead for 19 laps throughout the race.

Everybody will regroup in preparation to rev their engines for the Auto Club 400 at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California, next Sunday.

Team Penske duo Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski are forces to be reckoned with at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The former is the reigning Pennzoil 400 champion—his first victory on the track. In 13 appearances at Las Vegas, including two at the Southpoint 400, he has nine top-10 finishes.

The last time Logano finished outside the top 10 in Las Vegas was 2013.

Keselowski also has nine top-10 finishes at the track, but he has three wins, two of which came in the Pennzoil 400. He last finished outside the top 10 in 2012.

Jimmie Johnson will also be one to watch. The 44-year-old has more wins than anyone else in this race, having picked up four over the course of his illustrious career.

He won it three times in a row from 2005 to 2007, and his most recent triumph came in 2010.

The veteran looked quick in practice on Friday:

Fox Sports' Bob Pockrass shared further details from the final practice session:

Johnson hasn't finished in the top 10 in Las Vegas since 2016, but in the final season of his career, it would be the perfect time for him to roll back the years.

Kevin Harvick, who had the best average over 10 consecutive laps in the final practice, might also be a threat. He picked up wins in this race in 2015 and 2018, as well as finishing second here at the Southpoint 400 last year.

Kevin Harvick's weekend is off to a good start with a win in Saturday's qualifying run for the AAA Texas 500.

NASCAR's return to Texas Motor Speedway for the first time since March is shaping up to be a good one for Stewart Haas Racing. Harvick's pole win is his sixth of the year, most on the Monster Energy circuit. He beat out Erik Jones for the top spot by 0.123 seconds.

Sunday's race is a key step in the Monster Energy Cup Series Playoffs as the bridge event in the Round of 8 and the antepenultimate event of the season.

As things currently stand, the Championship 4 will include Martin Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch and Joey Logano. The four drivers on the outside still clinging to hope are Harvick, Ryan Blaney, Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott.

While that field of contenders will continue to sort itself out, here's how the 40-driver lineup will start out Sunday.

Qualifying order via NASCAR.com

The last time Harvick started from the pole was at the Brickyard in September. He went on to win that race, which kicked off a string of five straight top-seven finishes for the No. 4 car.

He's finished inside the top 10 in each of the past two weeks and is in fifth place in the point standings, 14 points behind Logano.

Logano will have to make up ground Sunday if he wants to maintain his spot in the Championship 4. The No. 22 car will start from the 11th spot, though he sounded optimistic about his qualifying finish:

Truex, who enters this weekend with a 20-point lead over Hamlin for the top spot, will start from the 17th position in Row 9. He's on track to go an entire season without winning a pole, yet that hasn't prevented him from going home victorious seven times in the actual races.

Eight months ago Truex finished 12th at Texas Motor Speedway, which ended his streak of five straight top-10 showings. He's already locked up a spot in the Championship 4 thanks to his win in Martinsville last week, easing some of the pressure for these next two races.

There is still a great deal left to be sorted out this weekend in Texas and next week at Arizona. Harvick will attempt to take advantage of his performance Saturday with a win when the actual race begins at 3 p.m. ET Sunday.

Tempers flared between Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin following the First Data 500 on Sunday.

During the race, Hamlin forced Logano into the wall. The No. 22 car absorbed some damage and eventually spun out as the result of a cut tire.

Logano apparently wanted to speak with Hamlin about the matter once the event concluded. As Logano was walking away, he gave Hamlin a small shove, which sparked a minor scuffle between members of the respective teams.

According to the Associated Press' Jenna Fryer, NASCAR officials called Todd Gordon, Logano's crew chief, and Team Penske member Travis Geisler to their hauler to discuss the matter further.

The two former Joe Gibbs Racing teammates are among the eight drivers still in the playoffs, so they're undoubtedly feeling the pressure at this stage of the season. They're both in position to advance to the championship four in the year's finale.

When Hamlin took the track for his qualifying attempt, he edged out Joey Logano for the top spot in his first lap and then blew away the rest of the field on his second lap:

After the qualifying session, Hamlin credited the speed of his car for the strong qualifying run:

While Chase Elliott technically qualified second, an engine change in practice will result in him starting at the back of the field, meaning Truex will start on the outside of Row 1:

Elliott barely made it into the playoffs' round of eight by edging out Brad Keselowski last week, but he will have to work his way through the field in order to get off to a strong start.

Meanwhile, Hamlin is coming off a win last week at Kansas to cement his place in the round of eight, and he has to be considered the favorite to win again this week given how good his car looked Saturday. On top of that, Hamlin has five career wins at Martinsville to his credit, which is second among active drivers behind only Jimmie Johnson.

Aside from Hamlin and Elliott, the other drivers still in playoff contention qualified as follows: Kyle Busch (13), Truex (3), Logano (10), Kevin Harvick (22), Kyle Larson (14) and Ryan Blaney (6).

After getting eliminated prior to the round of eight, Aric Almirola, Clint Bowyer, Erik Jones and William Byron are among the strong qualifiers who have a chance to play spoiler Sunday.
