Frank Gore Jr. Told Dad 'I'm the Best in the Family' After Breaking NCAA Bowl Record

Frank Gore ranks third in NFL history in rushing yards, but his son Frank Gore Jr. might now be the superstar in the family.

The younger Gore set an NCAA bowl record Saturday with 329 rushing yards to help Southern Miss earn a 38-24 win over Rice in the LendingTree Bowl. After the game, he let his father hear it with some trash talk.

"I told him (about the record) when he came on the field and let him know that I'm the best in the family," he said, via ESPN.

The sophomore topped the previous record set by Appalachian State's Camerun Peoples in the 2020 Myrtle Beach Bowl.

"Thanks to my O-line, they opened up a lot of good holes and got me into the secondary," Gore said. "As Coach (Will Hall) said, the first person could rarely tackle me. And if you're able to get down the field untouched, that leads to a lot of big plays."

Frank Gore Jr. was a 3-star recruit out of high school, receiving few scholarship offers from big-time programs. He has proved doubters wrong in his three collegiate seasons, totaling 2,891 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns for Southern Miss.

His 1,382 rushing yards in 2022 ranks 13th in the country.

The senior Gore struggled with injuries during his college career at Miami and never reached 1,000 yards in a single season. He totaled 1,975 rushing yards across three seasons with the Hurricanes.

The 39-year-old was much better in the NFL, reaching 1,000 rushing yards in nine different seasons. The third-round pick earned five Pro Bowl selections with the San Francisco 49ers and finished his career with 16,000 yards on the ground.

It creates a lot for Gore Jr. to live up to, but he's already off to a great start.

Wizards' Kyle Kuzma Comments on Lakers Trade Rumors: 'It's a Blessing'

The Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly showed interest in reacquiring Kyle Kuzma, which Washington Wizards forward believes is a compliment.

"I think it just shows you the grass is not always greener," Kuzma told Melissa Rohlin of Fox Sports. "It's definitely a good thing because at the end of the day, that means I've been playing well and I have value in this league that a team would want to trade for me. It's a blessing."

Bleacher Report's Chris Haynes first reported the Lakers' interest in Kuzma, noting the Wizards don't want to deal away the 27-year-old:

Kuzma is averaging 21.3 points per game, which would be a career high, to go with 7.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.

Washington acquired Kuzma in the 2021 deal that brought Russell Westbrook to Los Angeles.

Kuzma had spent his first four years with the Lakers, contributing both as a go-to offensive player and as an energy option off the bench. He averaged 15.2 points per game during this time there, helping the team win the NBA title in 2020.

Despite his production, the 6'9" forward was constantly the subject of trade rumors before eventually being dealt to the Wizards.

"I always look back and wish I would've gotten the fairer end of the stick a little bit, just with my role and how much I sacrificed," Kuzma said.

The trade has paid off for him personally, averaging 17.1 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in his first season before breaking out in 29 games this year. The Wizards have struggled as a team with an 11-19 record, although the Lakers haven't fared much better at 12-16. Both squads are 12th in their respective conference.

Kuzma has a $13 million player option for next season, although his improved play in 2022-23 makes testing free agency a smart move.

Haynes reported the Wizards are "open to signing him to a long-term extension," but it's clear there is plenty of interest in Kuzma around the league.

Among the other performers Sunday were Ozuna and Gims singing "Arhbo," with Nora Fatehi, Balqees, Rahma Riad and Manal performing "Light the Sky."

There was plenty of controversy surrounding the World Cup taking place in Qatar, but the on-field play created numerous memorable moments for players and fans.

It creates a lot to live up to in 2026 as the United States, Mexico and Canada co-host a 48-team tournament.

Dolphins HC McDaniel Was Concerned for People's Safety as Bills Fans Threw Ice Balls

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel wasn't amused to see Buffalo Bills fans throw snowballs from the stands during Saturday's game.

McDaniel asked the referees during his team's 32-29 loss whether fans throwing snow could result in a penalty.

"I was just more concerned with safety when there are ice balls flying at people's heads," he said of the matter after the game. "I think that's what [the officials] were concerned with as well. There were several people that got hit. It's whatever."

Early in the contest, Bills fans took full advantage of the snowfall that hit the Buffalo region before the game.

The forecast called for wintry conditions at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York, so the Dolphins knew what to expect in that regard. McDaniel wore a shirt at practice that read, "I wish it were colder," and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Miami packed "1,400 pounds worth of trunks of cold weather gear, multiple cleats for every player and capes."

All in all, McDaniel's squad didn't seem to have much trouble. Tua Tagovailoa went 17-of-30 for 234 yards and two touchdowns, while Raheem Mostert ran for 136 yards on 17 carries.

The Dolphins led by eight points in the fourth quarter before Josh Allen's five-yard touchdown pass and two-point conversion tied the game at 29. The Bills' Tyler Bass connected to a 25-yard field goal as time expired for the win.

Buffalo has one more home game left in the regular season and is on track to host at least one playoff matchup as the top seed in the AFC at the moment. Should snow blanket Northern New York on either occasion, the Bills might make sure to remind their fans to avoid engaging in any snowball fights from their seats.

Hadi Choopan is the 2022 Mr. Olympia after winning the bodybuilding title Saturday night in Las Vegas.

Choopan earned $400,000 for his win, becoming the first Iranian competitor ever to take the top prize at this event.

Here are the final results and payouts in the men's open division, via Barbend.

  1. Hadi Choopan - $400,000
  2. Derek Lunsford - $150,000
  3. Nick Walker - $100,000
  4. Brandon Curry - $40,000
  5. Mamdouh "Big Ramy" Elssbiay - $30,000

Elssbiay was one of the names to watch heading into the event as the two-time defending champion. "Big Ramy" was looking to become the eighth person ever to win three Mr. Olympia titles, with six others winning at least three in a row.

Instead, it was Coopan who impressed the judges on Saturday:

The performance was enough to climb the standings and finish in first place.

Choopan had qualified for Mr. Olympia in each of the last three years, earning two third-place finishes and one-fourth place, but his showing this week helped him finally take home the crown.

Derek Lunsford also performed well for a surprise second-place finish, especially doing well in the pre-judging on Friday.

Lunsford won the 212 Olympia a year ago before moving into the open competition this year, and he proved he was up to the task.

Choopan was still the competition's biggest star and should be a top contender to win more titles in the future.

Are Lakers Right to Keep Russell Westbrook amid Latest NBA Trade Rumors?

For months, Russell Westbrook has been featured in trade rumors. It has seemed a certainty that the 34-year-old point guard will be on the move prior to the NBA trade deadline on Feb. 9.

As that date gets closer, the most probable landing spot for Westbrook appears to be ... to stay with the Los Angeles Lakers?

That's right. According to The Athletic's Sam Amick, the Lakers may opt to keep Westbrook, who has been performing much better since his early-season struggles. He's thrived while serving as Los Angeles' sixth man, which may not be how the team envisioned using him, but it's worked out thus far.

"According to a source with knowledge of the Lakers' plans, Westbrook's play this past month has made it increasingly unlikely that he will be traded before the league's Feb. 9 deadline," Amick wrote.

Westbrook is averaging 14.7 points, 7.6 assists and 6.1 rebounds in 27 games, only three of which he has started (and none since Oct. 23). He's recorded a triple-double twice over Los Angeles' past four games, including in its win over the Denver Nuggets on Friday night.

The Lakers still need to find a way to get going, as they had lost four of five games prior to that victory over Denver, which improved their record to a mere 12-16. Los Angeles will likely need to make at least one trade if it hopes to make a push into the playoffs.

Is it the right move to keep Westbrook as part of the core, or should the Lakers be shopping him as a piece in one of their probable potential moves?

Westbrook doesn't seem to be a long-term fit in Los Angeles, and even if he doesn't get dealt, it's unlikely he'll be back next season. After making $47.06 million in the 2022-23 campaign, Westbrook is set to become an unrestricted free agent during the upcoming summer.

But the Lakers don't have much draft capital to part with, considering they have only two first-round picks the rest of the decade. It's unlikely a team would take on Westbrook's salary without acquiring one (if not both) of those selections.

Los Angeles may be better off making a trade in which it adds complementary players to its core trio (Westbrook, LeBron James and Anthony Davis) and possibly doesn't have to give up its most significant draft capital. Is such a trade available? That isn't known, but it's worth the team pursuing.

It would also be smart for the Lakers to remain open to the possibility of a Westbrook trade, depending on the offers they may receive. Perhaps his improved play has boosted his value and could impact the type of return Los Angeles could get for him.

Unless that happens, the Lakers will probably be right to keep Westbrook and try to make a playoff push by making a different trade and hoping they can get rolling. If Westbrook continues to play well, he could serve a key role in helping Los Angeles reach the postseason.

ESPN: NFL Informs Owners That Teams Spent $800M on Fired Coaches, Execs Over 5 Years

NFL teams have spent $800 million on fired coaches and front-office executives over the past five years alone, the league said in a message to owners last week, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

League officials distributed spreadsheets at the owners' meetings in Dallas noting how much each team was spending on former employees, hoping to send a message before the end of the season.

"The league wanted each team to see the exact costs of instability," Schefter noted.

Two coaches have already been fired in 2022—Carolina Panthers' Matt Rhule and Indianapolis Colts' Frank Reich—both having four years remaining on their contracts at more than $8 million per season.

Rhule has already gotten a new job at the University of Nebraska, which helps offset a majority of his salary with the Panthers, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The risk is still high with the constant stream of hiring and firing coaches.

The New York Giants are paying three different coaches at the same time. Former coaches Pat Shurmur and Joe Judge were both fired with significant time left on their contracts, while current coach Brian Daboll is in his first year with the team.

The Houston Texans fired David Culley after just one season, and they now must make a decision on first-year coach Lovie Smith following a 1-11-1 start to the year.

First-year coaches Nathaniel Hackett and Josh McDaniels have also been on the hot seat this season after disappointing seasons for the Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders, respectively.

With the NFL pointing out the high costs to each team, the league clearly wants to reduce the amount of yearly turnover among coaches and executives.

Cowboys Rumors: Jerry Jones Personally Called Odell Beckham Jr. After Hilton Deal

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones continues his push to sign Odell Beckham Jr., even calling the receiver personally after the team signed T.Y. Hilton, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The signing of Hilton seemingly indicated the Cowboys were out on Beckham, who reportedly hasn't progressed well enough from his torn ACL and might not be available until mid-January, according to ESPN's Ed Werder.

Jones still continues to speak to Beckham "almost exclusively" with the attempt to sign the star wideout.

Jones was confident the team would sign Beckham when speaking about the situation on Thursday.

"Odell's going to join us," Jones told Jarrett Bell of USA Today. "There's a good chance he will, with the complete goal of getting ready for a playoff game or two, and then I'll look to the future. But most of it being about now."

The Cowboys have put on a significant recruiting effort to land Beckham, who sat courtside at the Dallas Mavericks game alongside Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs earlier this month.

The Buffalo Bills and New York Giants are considered his other top suitors.

According to Rapoport, Beckham wants guaranteed money this year and next season but could be as much as six weeks away from playing.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler previously reported another option for the veteran could be sitting out all this season before signing as a true free agent in March, where he would be arguably the top option available.

Beckham can be a difference-maker whenever he does play, as he showed last year with the Los Angeles Rams. He totaled five touchdowns in eight regular-season games with the team before adding two more in the playoffs on the way to a Super Bowl title.

The Cowboys also have Super Bowl aspirations this year after improving to 10-3 with a four-game winning streak.
