Floyd Mayweather Jr. 'Absolutely' Won't Fight Again; 'Probably' Won't Do Exhibitions

Floyd Mayweather Jr. cast doubt about his future inside the ring following his exhibition with Logan Paul on Sunday night.

Mayweather said "absolutely not" to the idea of scheduling another official boxing match. Regarding an exhibition on par with the Paul encounter, he added that it's "probably not" in the cards.

The latter comment is somewhat surprising since all of the signs pointed to an event with Jake Paul. The 24-year-old is working his way up the combat sports ladder, and a date with former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley beckons on Aug. 28.

Mayweather and Jake Paul seemed to plant the seeds for something down the road with their interaction at a press event in May.

Mayweather also told TMZ Sports that his plan after the Logan Paul fight was "probably Jake."

Money always talks, especially when a star uses "Money" as his moniker.

Once Mayweather dispatched Conor McGregor in August 2017, almost nobody could've predicted he'd step inside the ring with a famous YouTuber nearly four years later. If the 44-year-old senses he can collect another big payday down the road for minimal work, then it might be too tough to turn down.

Daniel Cormier: 'Not a Good Look' for Floyd Mayweather to Go 8 Rounds With Logan Paul

Former UFC star Daniel Cormier wasn't impressed with what he saw from Floyd Mayweather in Mayweather's exhibition with Logan Paul on Sunday night.

Cormier tweeted that it was "not a good look for Floyd" that he and Paul went the distance for eight rounds.

Mayweather may not care all that much since his primary goal was to make as much money as possible. The 44-year-old told TMZ Sports he expects to receive between $50 million and $100 million when all is said and done.

The unbeaten legend may have missed the forest for the trees, though. As much as his name alone can carry a pay-per-view card, fans may not be all that enthusiastic to purchase another fight after his performance Sunday.

Mayweather successfully turned himself into a villain, which meant he could adopt a defensive style, avoid losing, and still leave the fans wanting more. Fans would tune in again with the hope he would finally get laid out.

That formula doesn't necessarily work against inexperienced opponents who stand little chance of beating him. In this case, some viewers likely hoped to see something else from Mayweather and were left underwhelmed.

Lakers' LeBron James: Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul Looks Like Mike Tyson Punch-Out

LeBron James is no stranger to a good money-making opportunity so he had to give props to Floyd Mayweather after the success of his pay-per-view bout against YouTuber Logan Paul.

But even James couldn't help but laugh at the optics of it all.

The 44-year-old Mayweather entered the ring standing 5'8", 155 pounds to the 6'2", 189.5-pound Paul at 26 years old. The size mismatch was instantly noticeable to anyone who tuned in.

Speaking to TMZ Sports, Mayweather said he stood to make at least $30 million and as much as $100 million for the exhibition. No winner was declared following the unsanctioned event in Miami and neither fighter was knocked down.

Mayweather spent the first few rounds against Paul showcasing his typical defense and footwork, dancing around the ring as the much-larger Paul tried to catch up to him. By the later rounds, it was Mayweather ducking underneath Paul's attempts to land a blow and striking his opponent with numerous body and head shots.

The night may have been a win for Paul in that he went the distance with one of the best boxers of all time, but it was a complete victory for Mayweather, who walks away with his perfect record intact and his bank account significantly larger.

After the fight, Mayweather told reporters he has no interest in returning to professional boxing. Considering how much money he made on Sunday with admittedly minimal training, it doesn't seem there's a reason for him to.

Logan Paul Suggests Rematch Against Floyd Mayweather: ‘Let Me Get a Little Better’

American YouTube personality Logan Paul brought up the idea of a rematch with undefeated and retired boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. after the two completed an eight-round exhibition fight on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.

During a post-match interview, Brian Custer of Showtime Championship Boxing asked Paul what was next for him, and he gave this response (1:22 mark):

"I don't know man. I'm probably going to go in the water, and go to the beach, raise my hands in the air..." Paul started.

Custer interjected and asked, "Another fight?"

Paul responded: "Floyd Mayweather/Logan Paul 2. I don't know, let me get a little better, maybe I can end it next time."

There were no judges for this fight. The match could have ended prematurely via knockout, but that did not occur.

Therefore, there wasn't an official winner. However, Mayweather likely would have won the fight if it was scored, as he notably landed the same amount of jabs but connected on 15 more power punches:

For his part, Paul seemed fine after the match, also saying this per Safid Deen of the Sun-Sentinel:

Mayweather went 50-0 during his boxing career. Paul has one professional fight under his belt, a split decision loss to English YouTuber KSI in Nov. 2019.

Jake Paul Calls Out Canelo Alvarez on Twitter: 'I Would Eat You Alive'

Jake Paul wasted no time calling out Canelo Alvarez after the middleweight champ appeared to tweet his disdain for Sunday's exhibition between Paul's brother, Logan, and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

The unsanctioned bout between Logan and Mayweather ended with both fighters lasting a full eight rounds and no winner declared. None of the rounds were scored, and neither fighter was knocked down, let alone in danger of a knockout.

Instead, Mayweather walked away with a large paycheck after telling TMZ Sports he was guaranteed to get around $30 million and could reach as much as $100 million.

The match itself appeared to do little to inspire Alvarez.

Despite Jake already set to fight Tyron Woodley in a boxing match on August 28, he's wasting no time challenging Alvarez.

After Logan was able to use his fame to get a pay-per-view event with Mayweather, Jake may find himself in a similar situation with Alvarez.

Canelo Alvarez Tweets Facepalm Emoji After Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Logan Paul Fight

Super middleweight world boxing champion Canelo Alvarez didn't seem too impressed following the boxing exhibition match between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Logan Paul on Sunday:

Paul's brother, Jake, didn't take kindly to Alvarez's tweet, firing one off himself:

It's unknown why Alvarez tweeted the facepalm emoji, although there are a few notable possibilities.

For starters, the match tape itself won't find itself in the Boxing Hall of Fame.

There were a lot of hugs and missed punches over the duration of the bout, which was an eight-round exhibition match.

There were no judges, but a win was possible via knockout. That did not occur.

Paul also somehow went the distance against Mayweather, who won all 50 of his professional fights during a decorated boxing career.

Paul, an American YouTube personality, has only one professional fight under his belt (a loss to English YouTuber KSI). He did have the distinct height and weight advantage over Mayweather, however.

As for Alvarez, the 30-year-old is now 56-1-2 lifetime after defeating Billy Joe Saunders in May. His lone loss in 59 professional fights was to Mayweather via majority decision in September 2013.

Mayweather vs. Paul Highlights: Top Moments from Superfight

Eight rounds of an exhibition fight between Logan Paul and Floyd Mayweather may end up producing more memes than memorable moments.

Neither boxer technically won the fight since the bout was unsanctioned and wasn't scored, but both Mayweather and Paul will be able to walk away feeling good about themselves. In Mayweather's case, the undefeated fighter landed significantly more blows than the much-larger Paul and proved he can still utilize his trademark defense, even if he admittedly hasn't trained much lately.

Paul, meanwhile, can now truthfully claim he went the distance with one of the greatest boxers of all time and didn't get knocked down once.

Both will be right.

As far as the actual event was concerned, it brought out all the star power and theatrics fans have come to expect from a superfight. Beginning with Paul walking out to the ring accompanied by soundtrack from The Greatest Showman while wearing a $250,000 Pokemon card.

Following a brief performance by Migos, Mayweather came out with his usual Team Money Team crew. a slew of advertisements on his gear and recording artist Moneybagg Yo rapping by his side.

That had a crowd full of celebrities ready to get things going.

As Mayweather took his time to study Paul's style in the first few rounds, the YouTube star did his best to get a few early shots in and try to rattle the 44-year-old boxing veteran. The first few rounds may have been the best opportunity Paul had to gain an edge on Mayweather. He couldn't take advantage of it.

Instead, it was Mayweather who avoided an early blitz and began wearing down Paul in the middle rounds with body shots, jabs and a few clean punches straight to the jaw.

Even without any significant moments—no knockdowns or knockouts, no one throwing in the towel and no one drawing blood—the legacy of Sunday's showdown will be just how surreal it was to see Mayweather take on someone in pay-per-view who had only just gotten into the sport recently.

Afterward, Mayweather made clear he's not seeking a professional bout any time soon. He was, however, enjoying himself and the weight his name still carries in the sport.

Even against a YouTuber who had no business getting in the ring with him, Mayweather put on the type of show he's been known to perform for years. And he walked away unscathed yet again.

Floyd Mayweather Praises Logan Paul After Fight: 'He's Better Than I Thought He Was'

Floyd Mayweather may have damned Logan Paul with faint praise following a dominant showing in their exhibition Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.

Mayweather called Paul a "great young fighter" in his post-fight interview and said his opponent was "better than I thought he was."

"I was surprised by him tonight," the unbeaten legend said. "Good little work. Good guy."

If Mayweather was "surprised" by Paul's performance, then he must not have held a high opinion of the 26-year-old's skills in the ring going into the fight. The final stats don't do justice to how much Mayweather dominated.

Not surprisingly, the 44-year-old was on a different level and could've ended things well before the eighth round if he had put his mind to it. His priorities were basically made clear from the opening bell.

Mayweather told TMZ Sports he was guaranteed around $30 million and could potentially collect as much as $100 million from the fight.

To his credit, Paul remained upright for the entirety of the night. He took some relatively big blows from Mayweather and didn't wind up on the mat. Even in an exhibition, going eight rounds against one of the greatest fighters of his generation is nothing to scoff at.

Those who wished to see Paul get some form of comeuppance were sorely disappointed, and this probably won't be the last time he's headlining a pay-per-view card.

Mayweather vs. Paul Results: Money Mayweather-Paul Exhibition Goes the Distance

Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Logan Paul battled for eight rounds in an entertaining fight at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida on Sunday night, though in the end, a winner was not declared as no scorecards were recorded.

While he didn't emerge victorious, Paul managed to go the distance against one of the greatest boxers ever in an exhibition, which was quite the accomplishment for the YouTube star.

Paul entered the bout with just one professional fight under his belt, which came in a losing effort against another internet star, KSI.

As such, Mayweather was the heavy favorite. He went 50-0 as a professional, and his most recent foray into the ring was a demolition of Tenshin Nasukawa in December 2018. The Japanese kickboxer was knocked down three times before his corner threw in the towel.

That bout was a reminder of how much differently Mayweather can look on offense when he's not up against somebody who hasn't spent years training in combat sports.

Even in what amounted to a low-stakes situation, many expected the former champion to at least knock down Paul. That didn't happen, though Mayweather landed significantly more blows than his opponent.

In what proved to be a prophetic comment, the 44-year-old told The Athletic's Lance Pugmire in May he wouldn't be approaching this with his typical fervor in training.

"For this one, I've just got to stay in shape," he said.

It would appear he didn't underestimate Paul, using his trademark defense to tire out his opponent and negate the YouTuber's size advantage.

This result doesn't alter Mayweather's legacy or tarnish his perfect record.

Paul's performance also shows how he and his brother, Jake, are poised to remain marquee fixtures in boxing. Jake already has a win over former UFC star Ben Askren, and he's due to fight former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley in August.

Now, Logan can likely move on to another major event if he so chooses.

Mayweather vs. Paul Results: Best Twitter Reaction from Superfight

Logan Paul and Floyd Mayweather Jr. went the distance in their eight-round special exhibition match from Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.

By rule, no winner was declared as there were no judges but a quick look at the stats and you can judge for yourself who would have had their hand raised if the fight counted:

The fight did exactly what it intended with plenty of buzz about the showdown between a Hall of Fame boxer and a YouTube star.

The first thing that stood out to the Twitterverse was the size disparity between the two men. Mayweather's 50-0 professional boxing record was mostly comprised of wins in divisions under 150 pounds while Paul weighed in at just a shade under 190 pounds.

The difference had LeBron James reminiscing about a certain old-school video game:

Paul was the aggressor early in the bout even if it wasn't very effective. His jab—which looked decent when boxing another YouTuber in KSI—didn't look so great against a 44-year-old professional boxer.

Paul didn't have much experience coming into the fight. He was 0-1, dropping a decision in his only professional fight leading into this one but he got credit for trying to damage early in the fight.

Outside of the flurry to end Round 1, Paul just didn't get much done with his output.

As for Mayweather, the former multi-division champion took his good old time getting involved in the fight. He waited until about the third round to really get going:

Once he did, the punches started to fly a little more freely from Mayweather.

To his credit, Paul hung in and took some damaging blows. Even if he did give the internet an incredibly meme-worthy picture between rounds:

Ultimately, the exhibition provided some entertaining moments, although not all who took in the fight might agree:

Paul acquitted himself well for a man who has never won a boxing match fighting a legend who was 50-0 in his professional career. It wouldn't be surprising to continue to see these kinds of events. They clearly are able to generate a lot of interest, whether people hate-watch or not.
