Davante Adams: Hamstring Injury Is 'Feeling Better' Ahead of Packers vs. Saints

After he departed Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams said Wednesday his hamstring is "feeling better" but he is unsure if he'll be able to play during his team's Week 3 game against the New Orleans Saints.
"It's too early to tell," Adams said, per Packers.com's Mike Spofford. "It's feeling better. I think we're making good progress every day. But we're just going to wait it out and see."
Adams considered a return to Sunday night's victory, but Packers head coach Matt LaFleur kept him out as the Packers closed in on their 42-21 win.
The 27-year-old recorded a franchise-record-tying 14 catch in Week 1 for 156 yards and two scores. Before he left against the Lions, he had three catches for 36 yards. Even without him, the high-flying Packers offense amassed more than 500 yards for the second week in a row. But quarterback Aaron Rodgers noted that Adams lining up from scrimmage makes a difference.
"We need Davante," he said. "We always need Davante. He's so damn talented. I think what we learned was maybe just how damn talented he is. He's a game-changer and he changes the way defenses play."
Though he did not practice Wednesday, Adams said there was no decision on his participation in Sunday night's game.
"It'll probably be a decision that's made later in the week most likely, just to get a full assessment, give me the full amount of time I need to get right, to a real comfortable spot," he said. "Obviously I don't think we're there just yet, but we're making great strides on the way there."
In Adams' absence Sunday, Aaron Jones picked up 18 and carries for a career-high 168 rushing yards, while he also added four catches for 68 yards and a touchdown.

Las Vegas Raiders at New England Patriots
The Las Vegas Raiders and the New England Patriots are two of the most interesting teams in the NFL this season.
After beating the vaunted New Orleans Saints on Monday night, the Raiders are 2-0 and appear poised to be legitimate contenders in the AFC West. The Patriots, meanwhile, are 1-1 but are just a couple of missed plays away from being undefeated.
More importantly, the Patriots look to have a potent offense with a rejuvenated Cam Newton under center. The 2015 league MVP threw for 397 yards and a touchdown in a narrow loss to the Seattle Seahawks last Sunday night.
We're going to find out a lot about both of these teams on Sunday. Can the Raiders go into Foxborough and knock off a second consecutive playoff contender? Will Newton and the New England offense continue to thrive? This should be a fun one for local and national audiences alike.
Green Bay Packers at New Orleans Saints
While the Raiders-Patriots tilt is going to be fun, Sunday night's battle between the Green Bay Packers and the New Orleans Saints might be an even more important game. The Saints are in very real danger of falling out of the race for a first-round bye, and they may again be without star receiver Michael Thomas.
Thomas is dealing with a high-ankle issue, but even when he was in the lineup in Week 1, the New Orleans offense hasn't been the same potent force it was a year ago. Drew Brees has thrown for 472 yards with three touchdowns and an interception, but the team ranks just 21st in offensive yards.
Green Bay, meanwhile, might be even better than last year's 13-3 squad. While it must be taken with a grain of salt—the Packers have played the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions—their 85 points over the first two weeks is extremely impressive. Unfortunately for Green Bay, its top receiver, Davante Adams, might miss the game as well.
"It's too early to tell," Adams said, via the team's official website.
Adams is dealing with a hamstring issue, and this game could end up being more of a rushing duel between Alvin Kamara and Aaron Jones than a classic Rodgers-Brees shootout.
Kansas City Chiefs at Baltimore Ravens
This is the big one. The reigning Super Bowl champions against last year's best regular-season team. The 2018 league MVP Patrick Mahomes against the 2019 league MVP Lamar Jackson. Two undefeated teams with big-time Super Bowl aspirations.
What's truly interesting about this game is that both the Chiefs and the Ravens might be better than they were last year. Both appear to have improved defenses while each has added an exciting new running back to its offense.
Chiefs rookie runner Clyde Edwards-Helaire is an early Offensive Rookie of the Year candidate, while Ravens back J.K. Dobbins adds yet another element to the Baltimore rushing attack.
There should be no shortage of action in Monday night's epic battle, which is, as of now, the best Monday night matchup on the schedule this season.
If you can only catch one game in Week 3, this is the one to watch.
Packers Rumors: Davante Adams' Hamstring Injury Not Serious; Week 3 Status TBD
Sep 22, 2020

Head coach Matt LaFleur initially told reporters Monday that Adams' hamstring problem was relatively minor:
"I know he wanted to go back in the game. I just told him, 'Hey, let's see how these next few series go, and see if we need you.' Obviously, he's a huge part of what we do offensively and a key member of this football team. If we don't need him, we didn't want to put him back in a position to do further harm to his own body."
Adams enjoyed a monster Week 1, catching 14 passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns as Green Bay beat the Minnesota Vikings 43-34.
Green Bay didn't miss the 27-year-old too much Sunday as it rolled up 488 yards on the Detroit Lions. That might say more about the Lions, though, considering they allowed 363 yards to the Chicago Bears in their opening-week defeat.
The Packers' decision not to substantively bolster their receiving corps this offseason—especially during the draft—was a bit perplexing.
Adams is an elite wideout, but the team's depth at the position falls off after him. He finished with 997 receiving yards in 12 games last season. Allen Lazard and Marquez Valdes-Scantling were second and fourth with 477 and 452 yards, respectively.
Should Adams miss Sunday's game, the Saints should expect a healthy dose of Aaron Jones both on the ground and through the air. The Packers running back has 234 rushing yards and eight receptions for 78 yards in his first two games.
The Green Bay Packers look like one of the top three teams in the NFL through two weeks. Aaron Rodgers has almost casually completed 67.6 percent of his passes with six touchdowns and no interceptions while picking up two wins in the NFC North...
After only one week of the 2020 season, the debate over the NFL 's best receiver has shifted. Some of the league's top wideouts have gone to new teams, while others have gotten ...
Daily Fantasy Football Week 2: Strategy Advice for DraftKings, FanDuel Lineups
Sep 18, 2020

The highest-scoring offense from Week 1 has the potential to top the offensive chart again in Week 2.
Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers face a Detroit Lions defense that fell apart in the second half of their opening loss to the Chicago Bears. Rodgers produced a pair of solid performances against Detroit a year ago, and the early results in 2020 show he could be in for an uptick in production.
If you target Green Bay's favorable Week 2 matchup for daily fantasy lineups, a stack seems necessary given how often Rodgers targeted Davante Adams on Sunday.
Green Bay is not the only home team with a matchup that plays into its favor. The Tennessee Titans are heavily favored to move to 2-0 with a win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Derrick Henry is the obvious DFS target, but a wide receiver in an elevated role may be reap the most rewards.
Week 2 DFS Advice
Stack the Packers
Rodgers and Adams topped DFS contests at their respective positions for their parts in the 43-part outburst against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 1.
In that victory, Rodgers completed 72.7 percent of his passes, which was his highest total since Week 7 of 2019, and it was only the second time he hit that mark in the past three years. Rodgers also attempted more than 40 passes for the fourth time in Matt LaFleur's offense. He has three straight games dating back to Week 16 of 2019 with that many throws.
That is a positive sign for Rodgers' production level and the amount of time he can spread the ball around while giving Adams enough targets.
Since Week 4 of 2019, Adams has been targeted on 10 or more occasions in all but one of 10 starts. Week 1's 14-catch, 156-yard outing was Adams' second-best output in that stretch. The top one occurred in Week 4 last year against the Philadelphia Eagles, when he had 10 receptions for 180 yards.
Detroit was gashed for 363 total yards in its defeat to the Chicago Bears, during which it allowed three touchdown passes in the fourth quarter.
If Rodgers can pick apart a secondary he produced 606 passing yards against a year ago, he could be primed for another massive outing, which should also mean high numbers for Adams.
Target Corey Davis as Value Option
Corey Davis was already going to be an intriguing DFS play based off his Week 1 usage, but now that A.J. Brown is injured, he is an even more attractive option.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Brown "is likely to be week to week" because of a bone bruise in his knee.
Davis is coming off a 101-yard performance in which he caught seven of his eight targets Monday night against the Denver Broncos. Davis tied with Brown for the most targets from Ryan Tannehill, and if Brown is unable to go or limited, he could receive No. 1 receiver levels of production.
The Titans are going up against a Jacksonville defense that allowed 363 of its 445 yards through the air against the Indianapolis Colts. Although the Jaguars deserve credit for pulling out the victory, they were far from perfect on defense, which makes this an intriguing spot for Davis and the Titans receivers.
Adam Humphries might be worth a deeper value play if Brown is declared out, but Davis should be the primary focus of Tannehill's passes.
NFL Scores Week 1: Results and Top Fantasy Football Stars for Opening Games

The Green Bay Packers recorded the most points during the Matt LaFleur era in their Week 1 win over the Minnesota Vikings.
Aaron Rodgers posted some of the best quarterback numbers from Sunday afternoon, as he threw for four touchdowns in the 43-34 victory.
As he typically is, Davante Adams was Rodgers' top target in the passing game. Adams hauled in 14 passes for 156 yards and a pair of scores to top the production chart for fantasy wide receivers.
Josh Jacobs did not produce the same high volume of yardage, but he found the end zone on three occasions for the Las Vegas Raiders. The second-year running back used a game-winning score in the fourth quarter to eclipse Christian McCaffrey's Week 1 totals.
The majority of Sunday's top fantasy stars were high draft picks. Lamar Jackson and Russell Wilson led their respective teams to 38 points, while McCaffrey had two scores in the loss to the Raiders.
Week 1 Results
New England 21, Miami 11 (top fantasy star: Cam Newton: 15-of-19, 155 passing yards; 15 carries, 75 rushing yards, two TDs)
Jacksonville 27, Indianapolis 20 (Gardner Minshew II: 19-of-20, 173 yards, three TDs)
Las Vegas 34, Carolina 30 (Josh Jacobs: 25 carries, 95 yards, three TDs; four receptions, 46 yards)
Seattle 38, Atlanta 25 (Russell Wilson: 31-of-35, 322 yards, four TDs)
Buffalo 27, New York Jets 17 (Josh Allen: 33-of-46, 312 yards, two TDs; 14 carries, 57 yards, TD)
Chicago 27, Detroit 23 (Mitchell Trubisky: 20-of-26, 242 yards, three TDs)
Green Bay 43, Minnesota 34 (Aaron Rodgers: 32-of-44, 364 yards, four TDs)
Washington 27, Philadelphia 17 (Carson Wentz: 24-of-42, 270 yards, two TDs, two INTs)
Los Angeles Chargers 16, Cincinnati 13 (Joshua Kelley: 12 carries, 60 yards, TD)
Arizona 24, San Francisco 20 (DeAndre Hopkins: 14 receptions, 151 yards)
New Orleans 34, Tampa Bay 23 (Tom Brady: 23-of-36, 239 yards, two TDs)
Los Angeles Rams 20, Dallas 17 (Ezekiel Elliott: 22 carries, 96 yards, TD; 3 receptions, 31 yards, TD)
Top Fantasy Football Stars
Aaron Rodgers, QB, Green Bay
Rodgers had to wait until the final minute of the second quarter to throw his first touchdown of the season.
Once he connected on that scoring play with Adams, Rodgers discovered more confidence in the pocket and picked apart the Minnesota defense.
The 36-year-old hit Marquez Valdes-Scantling for a 45-yard touchdown right before halftime. He hooked up with Adams again in the third quarter and then found Allen Lazard for six points in the final stanza.
A year ago, Rodgers produced four or more touchdowns on two occasions, and his team's highest point total occurred against the Raiders on October 20. Sunday's final score beat out the number earned against the Raiders by one.
The four-score performance from Rodgers could be a sign of things to come this season for the Packers since they face a favorable matchup with the Detroit Lions in Week 2.
Josh Jacobs, RB, Las Vegas
Jacobs beat out McCaffrey in a showdown of top fantasy running backs at Bank of America Stadium.
The Alabama product ran for a touchdown in the first, third and fourth quarters to help his team win its first official game as the Las Vegas Raiders.
The third of Jacobs' scampers into the end zone was the game-winning touchdown with 4:08 remaining on the clock.
Jacobs totaled 93 rushing yards on 25 carries and added 46 yards on four receptions. McCaffrey had three more rushing yards but eight fewer yards in the passing game. Jacobs also had one more score than the top draft pick in most fantasy leagues.
Raiders head coach Jon Gruden made the case for Jacobs to receive more national recognition after his performance, per Eddie Paskal of the team's digital team:
Gruden on Josh Jacobs: "He's special. He deserves some national attention."
I think he's going to get it, Coach. Have a day, 28.
With his three scores, Jacobs has close to half of his seven rushing scores as a rookie. On three occasions in 2019, he had two rushing touchdowns. Sunday marked the first time he had three on the ground.
Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Dallas
Elliott produced the only touchdowns scored by the Dallas Cowboys in their Sunday night loss to the Los Angeles Rams.
The top-tier running back came four yards shy of hitting the 100-yard mark and added three catches for 31 yards.
The receiving aspect of Elliott's game could end up as the most important takeaway for fantasy players.
In 2019, the Dallas running back had two catches or fewer in four of his first five contests and had a single two-game span with five or more catches.
If he gets more involved in the passing game in Mike McCarthy's offense, he could add more value to his already high fantasy stock.
On Sunday, Elliott ended up with similar numbers to McCaffrey and had one fewer scoring play than Jacobs.
If he continues to have a high volume of touches in the Dallas offense and finds the end zone on a regular basis, he could challenge those two backs and a few others for the top ranking at the position over 16 games.
Davante Adams, WR, Green Bay
Adams recorded his second-highest receiving yardage total in a regular-season game under LaFleur.
The three-time Pro Bowler made one of the best catches of Week 1 on his first score, as he tiptoed the sideline to haul in a pass from Rodgers.
Adams followed that up with a third-quarter score that extended Green Bay's lead to 19 points.
The 27-year-old caught 14 of his 17 targets and finished with 156 receiving yards. It was his second 150-yard outing in the regular season in LaFleur's two-year tenure as a head coach. He also had 160 receiving yards in the playoffs against Seattle.
The start to Adams' season was the opposite of what he experienced against Chicago in 2019, when he caught four passes for 36 yards.
In addition to Adams' high level of production, Green Bay has to come away from Sunday pleased with the other receiving numbers. Valdes-Scantling, Lazard, Jamaal Williams and Aaron Jones all caught four passes, and seven players had a reception.
DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Arizona
DeAndre Hopkins thrived in his first game in the Arizona Cardinals offense.
The former Houston wide receiver caught 14 of the 16 balls Kyler Murray threw in his direction for 151 receiving yards.
Hopkins' Week 1 yardage total was higher than any of the totals he produced during the 2019 regular season with the Texans.
His last 150-yard performance occurred during Week 15 of 2018, when he put up 170 yards on 10 receptions on the New York Jets.
According to ESPN Stats and Info, Hopkins recorded his career high in receptions and tied for the second-most catches in a single game by a Cardinals player:
With 5 minutes left in his first game with the Cardinals, DeAndre Hopkins has already set his career high in receptions in a game with 14.
He is tied with Anquan Boldin for second most in a game in Cardinals history (Sonny Randle, 16) pic.twitter.com/mtnoNWIdPb
Hopkins may be able to record similar numbers in Week 2 against a Washington defense that allowed 208 passing yards and 265 total yards to Philadelphia in Week 1.

As we inch closer to the 2020 NFL season, fantasy enthusiasts are gearing up to draft in season-long leagues. Draft preparation is a bit different this year, as there is no preseason. Fantasy managers will have to look elsewhere to determine players' roles and health ahead of Week 1.
Reports from training camp can help in this area, and fantasy mock drafts can further aid in evaluating players' fantasy value. While a mock draft won't paint a definitive picture of how a player is going to perform, it will provide insight into how the fantasy world thinks he is going do.
This can help smart managers avoid missing out on a desired prospect or overdrafting a potential bust.
Here, we'll examine the first round of a mock fantasy draft simulated with FantasyPros' Mock Draft Simulator and dive into some draft strategies. We'll also run down the top 10 players at each key position for dynasty and keeper leagues.
2020 Fantasy Mock Draft
1.01: Christian McCaffrey, RB, Carolina Panthers
1.02: Saquon Barkley, RB, New York Giants
1.03: Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Dallas Cowboys
1.04: Alvin Kamara, RB, New Orleans Saints
1.05: Michael Thomas, WR, New Orleans Saints
1.06: Dalvin Cook, RB, Minnesota Vikings
1.07: Derrick Henry, RB, Tennessee Titans
1.08: Clyde Edwards-Helaire, RB, Kansas City Chiefs
1.09: Lamar Jackson, QB, Baltimore Ravens
1.10: Nick Chubb, RB, Cleveland Browns
1.11: Davante Adams, WR, Green Bay Packers
1.12: Kenyan Drake, RB, Arizona Cardinals
Unsurprisingly, the first four selections in this simulated draft were running backs. The position is popular early for a couple of reasons. For one, high-volume, dual-threat backs aren't going to last long on draft day. Secondly, there is typically more depth to be found at wide receiver than at running back.
A No. 2 wideout can produce a 1,000-yard season. That typically isn't happening for a No. 2 back. Only 15 running backs rushed for 1,000 yards last season, while 25 wide receivers produced 1,000 yards. Receivers get a bit of a bump in PPR leagues, but if you're not grabbing one of the top two or three guys, the position can be addressed after Rounds 1 and 2.
Only true No. 1 receivers—guys like Michael Thomas, Davante Adams and Julio Jones—should even be considered in the first couple of rounds. Doubling up on running backs instead is a tried-and-true formula.
A bit more surprising is the fact that Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was taken in Round 1 in the draft simulation. This isn't a complete stretch, as he did rush for more than 1,200 yards last season. Still, taking a quarterback in the first round is a reach, and this is another position that can wait until later in the draft.
Plus, there's no guarantee that the 23-year-old will duplicate his remarkable rushing season.
"I doubt I'm going to be carrying the ball a lot going on further into the future, because we've got dynamic running backs," Jackson said, per Matthew Stevens of Ravens Wire.
Starting-caliber quarterbacks can be found in the middle rounds. Philadelphia Eagles signal-caller Carson Wentz, for example, has an average draft position of 81, according to FantasyPros. That's late in the seventh round of a 12-team league.
Similarly, tight ends can be found later in the draft, and only a handful of players—Travis Kelce, George Kittle and Zach Ertz, specifically—should be considered within the first five rounds.
Guys like Kittle, Ertz and Kelce can be valued as a top receiver because they essentially serve as their teams' No. 1 receiving options. Otherwise, quarterback and tight end should be the last two starting positions filled—aside from defense and kicker, of course.
Don't overdraft a defense and never take a kicker before the last round, unless you have one of the very last picks in the draft.
Davante Adams Says 'Everyone' Expected Packers to Take WR in 2020 NFL Draft
Aug 4, 2020

The Green Bay Packers' draft came and went without general manager Brian Gutekunst choosing a wide receiver, a fact that surprised the Pack's No. 1 wideout, Davante Adams.
Zach Kruse of Packers Wire provided Adams' comments to reporters on Tuesday:
Even Davante Adams said "everyone," including himself, expected the Packers to draft a WR.
The Packers took nine players, led by quarterback Jordan Love with the 26th overall pick. They also took Boston College running back A.J. Dillon with their second-round selection before choosing three offensive linemen, a tight end, a defensive end, a linebacker and a safety.
Adams had more than twice as many targets (127) as the next-closest wide receiver (Marquez Valdes-Scantling, with 56) despite missing four games with a right turf toe injury. Running back Aaron Jones was second overall with 68 targets, and tight end Jimmy Graham, who is now a Chicago Bear, was third with 60.
In other words, the Packers heavily relied on Adams in their passing attack, to the point where adding a wideout this offseason to alleviate some pressure seemed like a formality.
That did not happen, however, as the Packers opted to fill out their roster elsewhere.
The Packers' pass-catching core certainly isn't bereft of talent and potential, and that's largely because of the impressive Allen Lazard, who had 35 catches for 477 yards and three touchdowns on just 52 targets.
PerPro Football Focus,Lazard had the fourth-highest rating among wideouts when targeted on third down.
According to Peter Bukowskiof Locked on Packers, Adams and head coach Matt LaFleur have both praised Lazard's work.
"Adams mentioned Allen Lazard as someone who is coming into his own," Bukowski tweeted Tuesday.
"Matt LaFleur has mentioned him a number of times this offseason. Lazard also has the confidence of his QB. Really feels like a breakout season is coming."
Lazard will be the Packers' No. 2 wide receiver, leaving a question mark at No. 3.
Valdes-Scantling and Equanimeous St. Brown are the likely candidates.
Valdes-Scantling has flashed potential but had just a 46.4 percent catch rate last season. St. Brown was more efficient in limited action (21 receptions for 328 yards on 36 targets), but it remains to be seen what he could do with a larger workload over a season.
The tight end lost its top pass-catching threat in Graham, and Marcedes Lewis and Robert Tonyan figure to see the most snaps.
Green Bay opens its 2020 season against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET in Minneapolis.
Packers' Davante Adams Tweets 'I Almost Threw Up' from NFL Network Top 100 List

NFL Network began unveiling its Top 100 Players of 2020 list on Sunday and Monday, but Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams was left unimpressed.
Adams tweeted that he "almost threw up" after seeing himself ranked only 57th:
Honestly, I OFFICIALLY dont believe the players made the list this year lol I almost threw up last night when I saw where Keenan was then Im 57 today...Im off the casa azul tonight 😂😂😂
The Packers wideout also suggested that he felt Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen was underrated at No. 77.
Stefon Diggs of the Buffalo Bills (54) and Amari Cooper of the Dallas Cowboys (49) are the wide receivers who are known to have ranked ahead of Adams thus far. While both Diggs and Cooper are productive and talented wideouts, Adams' dismay is understandable.
The 27-year-old Adams has been named to the Pro Bowl in each of the past three seasons, including 2018 when he set career highs across the board with 111 receptions for 1,386 yards and 13 touchdowns. Neither Diggs nor Cooper have ever reached any of those totals in a single season.
Adams' production did drop off last season to 83 grabs for 997 yards and five touchdowns, but that is primarily because he missed four games due to injury.
Had Adams played in every game, he was on pace to finish with 111 receptions and over 1,300 yards once again.
An argument can be made for Allen being ahead of both Diggs and Cooper as well since he is a three-time Pro Bowler who has averaged 101 catches for 1,263 yards and six touchdowns over the past three seasons.
Another controversial selection ahead of Adams was San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo at No. 43. Garoppolo did lead the Niners to the Super Bowl last season, but he leaned heavily on the running game and defense during the playoffs and his 27-13 touchdown-to-interception ratio left something to be desired.
The NFL Top 100 list is voted on by the players every year, but Adams suggested in his tweet that he was unconvinced that was the case this year.
Nos. 11-40 will be unveiled Tuesday followed by the top 10 being announced on Wednesday's final episode.
