Davante Adams: Aaron Rodgers' Return Doesn't Change My Stance on Packers Contract

Even though Aaron Rodgers is in camp, the news isn't all good for the Green Bay Packers with their star players.
Davante Adams told reporters Wednesday that Rodgers' return had no impact on where he stands with the organization.
"I've earned the right to be paid the highest [among wide receivers] in the league," Adams said.
Prior to the start of training camp, Rodgers and Adams posted the same picture of Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen on their Instagram Stories.
Adams and the Packers were reportedly engaged in contract talks.
Per Tom Silverstein of USA Today, Adams' camp broke off discussions last week because the team "refused to consider the two-year, $54.5 million extension Arizona receiver DeAndre Hopkins signed last year in establishing a yearly average for Adams’ extension."
Adams is heading into the final season of the four-year, $58 million extension he signed in December 2017. His $14.5 million average annual salary ranks 18th among wide receivers, per Spotrac.
Based on performance, there's no denying Adams deserves to at least be among the highest-paid receivers in the league. He's averaged 137 targets, 92 receptions, 1,128 yards and 12 touchdowns per season from 2016 to 2020.
Adams led the NFL with 18 touchdown catches last season. The 28-year-old tied for second in the league with 115 receptions and tied for fifth with 1,374 receiving yards.
Davante Adams Rumors: WR Open to Contract Talks With Packers Amid Aaron Rodgers Buzz

Green Bay Packers star Davante Adams "is willing to listen to any contract discussions the team would like to have," according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
This comes after Schefter reported the Packers are nearing an agreement with Aaron Rodgers that will result in him suiting up for the team in 2021.
Adams is entering the final year of his four-year, $58 million contract, which has provided a subplot surrounding the Packers amid the ongoing saga with Rodgers.
During an appearance in May on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, the four-time Pro Bowler said he might have to weigh his own long-term future with the team if Rodgers were to walk away:
The two weren't exactly subtle when they both shared the same photo of Chicago Bulls legends Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan on Instagram over the weekend, seemingly alluding to what could be a last dance in Green Bay:
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported last Friday that negotiations between Adams and the Packers about a new contract had ended with no plan to restart discussions. Rapoport described the player and team as "in a bad place."
The general skepticism about Green Bay was such that some sportsbooks briefly removed their Packers- and NFC North-related betting lines.
As with Rodgers, simply getting Adams back on board is a bit of a win for the franchise as it looks to maximize its championship window. The Packers' outlook beyond 2021 may not be much different, though.
According to Schefter, part of the proposed handshake deal with Rodgers will have Green Bay re-evaluate his future upon the conclusion of the upcoming season.
"The Packers' agreement to 'review' the situation after the season implies that the team will trade Rodgers if he still feels the way he has about the Packers' culture and decision-making," Schefter wrote.
If Green Bay is unable to sign Adams to a new multiyear contract, it might wind up right back at square one in the event Rodgers leaves and Jordan Love is poised to run the offense.
