Chiefs WRs Skyy Moore, Kadarius Toney's Trade Advice for Dynasty Fantasy Leagues

While fantasy football managers have received little return on Skyy Moore or Kadarius Toney this season, the Kansas City Chiefs wide receivers could be undervalued assets in dynasty leagues.

The Chiefs selected Moore in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft in part to help replace Tyreek Hill. The 22-year-old has caught just six passes for 100 yards on 13 targets through eight games.

Toney joined the team in October following his trade from the New York Giants. He made his Kansas City debut in a 20-17 Week 9 win over the Tennessee Titans, hauling in two passes for 12 yards.

Of the two, Moore is probably the more attractive asset in dynasty formats.

The Chiefs' investment in him is slightly higher than Toney, who cost a compensatory third-round pick and a sixth-rounder. Toney is more of a wild card as well given how poorly his New York Giants tenure went.

Even though a different regime is in charge in New York, you generally don't see a team trade a player who was selected in the first round one year earlier.

Mecole Hardman and JuJu Smith-Schuster are free agents in the offseason, and Marquez Valdez-Scantling's three-year, $30 million contract doesn't make it difficult for the Chiefs to move on in 2023 or 2024.

As much as Moore is a peripheral figure now, he could have a significantly bigger role in the passing game next year. The same goes for Toney, though it's tougher right now to see where he fits into Kansas City's long-term plans.

Trading for Moore or Toney could be a worthwhile gambit. Their values are slightly higher in dynasty leagues, but neither should command a high price tag.

Of course, their relatively meager production so far offers a compelling reason to stand pat if you have either on your roster. Unless a rival manager is willing to go above and beyond, betting on Moore or Toney's long-term upside is the smarter play.

Russell Wilson Fires Back at Pete Carroll About Not Wearing Wristband with Seahawks

Nov 9, 2022

Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson responded Wednesday to apparent criticism from Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll about not wearing a play-calling wristband during his time in Seattle.

Carroll didn't mention Wilson by name during his comments Monday on Seattle Sports 710 AM, which were centered on the Seahawks offense's success under Geno Smith, Wilson's replacement.

"If you notice, Geno's going off the wristband, and that's a big help," Carroll said. "It's smoothed things out, sped things up, cleaned things up. And that's part of it, too. We never did that before. There was resistance to that, so we didn't do that before."

The Broncos-Seahawks dynamic has been one of the NFL's most interesting storylines during the first half of the 2022 season.

When the blockbuster trade happened in March, Wilson was viewed as the missing piece for Denver, which was expected to emerge as a serious contender in the loaded AFC West.

Not only have the Broncos not taken a leap forward, owning a 3-5 record, but their offense has even dipped compared to last year. They rank 20th in total offense (328.9 yards per game), a slight decline from when they finished 19th in 2021 (330.5 yards per game).

However, Wilson expressed confidence after an Oct. 30 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, the team's most recent game prior to its bye week, that things were about to turn around.

"In every season I've ever played, there's a moment in time where it clicks," he told reporters. "Hopefully, that will be the start of it."

For now, though, Denver is one of the most disappointing teams at the halfway mark.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks are one of the NFL's biggest surprises with a 6-3 record heading into a Week 10 clash with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Smith is enjoying an unexpected resurgence, completing 73.1 percent of his passes for 2,199 yards with 15 touchdowns and four interceptions across nine games. He's added 196 rushing yards and one score on the ground.

The 32-year-old journeyman ranks fourth in ESPN's Total QBR (68.0), 24 spots ahead of Wilson (36.0), which is something few, if any, could have predicted before the campaign.

Clearly, the split between Wilson and the Seahawks was less than amicable, and that narrative has persisted throughout the season, previously popping up after Seattle's season-opening win over Denver when Carroll said the victory was "really rewarding" for the quarterback's former teammates.

"Eh, you figure that out," Carroll said when asked why it meant so much. "But it was really meaningful and they really wanted it and I knew we were playing for a lot more than just the regular stuff. We have a real connection with the history. ... They feel it and they love the fact that they played here and they love seeing us do well."

It's far too early to declare a winner from the offseason trade, especially since Wilson is under contract through 2028, but early returns are trending favorably for the Seahawks.

Raiders Rumors: Johnathan Abram Cut by LV After Being Shopped at Trade Deadline

The Las Vegas Raiders are reportedly releasing safety Johnathan Abram on Tuesday, per the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.

According to Rapoport, the Raiders shopped Abram ahead of the trade deadline but didn't find any suitors.

The move doesn't come as a major shock, as the former first-round pick had been falling out of favor in Las Vegas.

He's also yet another recent first-round selection who hasn't really panned out for the Raiders, a further indictment of the Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock era:

After playing just one game in his rookie season in 2019 because of a torn rotator cuff and labrum, the Mississippi State product posted solid counting stats in the 2020 (86 tackles, two interceptions) and 2021 seasons (116 tackles, one interception).

The 26-year-old has 48 tackles this year through eight games (six starts).

Abram was given ample opportunity to prove himself this season, with the Raiders playing him all over the field, at points utilizing him in both safety roles, as a linebacker, cornerback and nickelback.

It appeared the team was happy with how he was handling the variety of roles asked of him.

"He's a smart guy," head coach Josh McDaniels told reporters in September. "I mean, we put a lot on him. He's been able to handle the duality of the multiple roles that we've given him. He's a big cog in terms of the overall communication on the defense."

But apparently, those feelings changed, and his time in Las Vegas has come to a close.

He'll now hit waivers and owed about $1 million in base salary for the remainder of the season. The Raiders had declined the fifth-year option on his rookie deal, so he'll be a free agent after the 2022 season.

The Raiders will be expected to turn to a starting safety pair of Tre'von Moehrig and Duron Harmon following Abram's release.

Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs vs. Justin Herbert, Chargers Flexed into Week 11 SNF Slot

The NFL is kicking the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals out of primetime later this month and replacing them with the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers.

The league announced it will be moving the Nov. 20 game between the Chiefs and Chargers into Sunday Night Football while sliding Steelers vs. Bengals into the 4:25 p.m. ET window.

Since 2006, the NFL has reserved the right to flex games into primetime, though Fox and CBS can "protect" certain games. The league can flex games twice between Weeks 5-10 and then at any point it deems fit in Weeks 11-17. There is no Sunday night game in Week 18.

Disappointed Bengals fans can send their ire to Pittsburgh's moribund offense, which likely played a huge part in the NFL's decision. The Steelers are a disappointing 2-6 and have not scored more than 23 points in a game all season.

Meanwhile, the Chargers and Chiefs sit atop the AFC West and would be playoff teams if the season ended today. The NFL is not going to pass up many opportunities to put a Patrick Mahomes vs. Justin Herbert game on the largest possible stage.

The scheduling change will put the Chargers in primetime in back-to-back weeks, as they play this Sunday night against the San Francisco 49ers.

Kansas City and Los Angeles played its first regular-season matchup on Thursday Night Football in Week 2. The Chiefs will now play at least six primetime games during their 2022 schedule.

Raiders Rumors: Josh McDaniels' Job 'Safe' Despite Team's 2-6 Record

The Las Vegas Raiders aren't looking to make a coaching change despite their 2-6 start, according to CBS Sports HQ's Josina Anderson.

Anderson reported Monday that head coach Josh McDaniels is "safe" and that "no one is panicking."

Team owner Mark Davis reaffirmed his commitment to McDaniels on Oct. 31, telling reporters he expected the coach to remain with the team "for years to come."

The fact that McDaniels' job security is already a storyline speaks for itself, though.

The Raiders won 10 games and made the playoffs in 2021 despite head coach Jon Gruden resigning in the middle of the season after emails surfaced in which he used racist, anti-gay and misogynistic language.

First-year general manager Dave Ziegler proceeded to add Davante Adams and Chandler Jones this offseason as a clear sign of ambition.

This is a squad that should be contending in the AFC West, not sitting in last place, and the circumstances behind some of Las Vegas' defeats have compounded the frustration. Throwing away one lead late in a game can be chalked up as bad luck. When it happens multiple times, you have to start looking at the coaches.

And McDaniels only being in his first season isn't much of an excuse when the New York Giants' Brian Daboll and the Minnesota Vikings' Kevin O'Connell both have their teams on pace to make the playoffs.

When the Raiders hired McDaniels, the hope was that he had learned from his two seasons as head coach of the Denver Broncos. He had an 11-17 record in Denver and didn't make it all the way through his second year.

McDaniels was just 33 when he got the job, and he acknowledged later he simply wasn't ready at that stage of his coaching career.

Now, it's fair to wonder whether the years he spent back with the New England Patriots did anything to make him more suited for a head coaching role.

As much as the Raiders appear to be behind McDaniels right now, Davis might have his resolve tested if their slump continues over the next few weeks.

NFL Exec: Chiefs Rest Patrick Mahomes' Arm Like MLB Pitcher Due to Lack of Run Game

Patrick Mahomes might look superhuman at times, but the Kansas City Chiefs are well aware their starting quarterback shouldn't be pushed beyond his physical limits.

The Athletic's Mike Sando spoke to an NFC team executive who said Kansas City needs to manage Mahomes' workload because of his lack of support across the offense.

"Mahomes doesn't have a hint of a running game, and they have to rest his arm like he's an MLB pitcher—damn near 70 throws and he's out there running around and it doesn't even look stressful," the executive said.

The 2018 MVP is fresh off a 20-17 overtime win over the Tennessee Titans that saw him attempt 68 passes, 14 more than his previous single-game high.

For the season, he has 331 attempts through eight starts, which averages out to just under 41.4 per game. If he continues at that pace, then he will reach third on the list for most pass attempts in one season (704).

As the executive laid out, the Chiefs have little choice but to lean heavily on the aerial attack.

Kansas City is 23rd in rushing offense with 103.5 yards per game on the ground, and even that might be a somewhat flattering number to the backfield.

Mahomes is third on the team in rushing yards (176). The threat he poses as a passer inevitably means opponents will drop more defenders deep at times, which opens up running lanes as well.

As long as Mahomes is on the roster, the Chiefs are never going to be a team that needs a Derrick Henry-type running back. The front office and coaching staff were probably hopeful they'd get more from Clyde Edwards-Helaire, though. The 2020 first-round pick is setting career lows in yards per carry (4.2) and rushing yards per game (36.6).

Kansas City is second in total offense (415.3 yards per game) and second in scoring (30.4 points per game). As the cliche goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

But head coach Andy Reid and his staff know Mahomes can grow fatigued like any other player. Allowing him to heave 60-plus passes probably won't be the norm going forward.

Patrick Mahomes Amazes NFL Twitter as Chiefs Rally Past Titans for OT Win

Patrick Mahomes willed the Kansas City Chiefs to a 20-17 comeback victory in overtime against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday evening.

The star quarterback completed a career-high 43 passes on 68 attempts for 446 yards, one touchdown and one interception. His yardage total tied for the third-highest mark of his career.

As impressive as Mahomes was through the air, he arguably did his best work on the ground, where he rushed for 63 yards and a score in addition to a two-point conversion that tied the game at 17 with 2:56 left in regulation.

That capped off a 13-play, 93-yard drive, which also included a Mahomes 20-yard scramble on 3rd-and-17 as well as a 14-yard touchdown rush.

The Titans had the upper hand for much of the second half, thanks largely to running back Derrick Henry, who rushed for two second-quarter touchdowns to give Tennessee a 14-9 halftime edge en route to 115 rushing yards.

The Titans' defense then shut the Chiefs down for the first four second-half drives, which ended in an interception, a missed field goal and a pair of punts.

But Mahomes shined when needed most on the game-tying drive.

The game eventually went to overtime, where Mahomes led Kansas City on a 13-play, 64-yard drive capped by a 28-yard Harrison Butker field goal.

The key play occurred when Mahomes scrambled for what seemed like an eternity before finding tight end Noah Gray down the field for a huge gain:

The Titans turned the ball over on downs after a pair of sacks put them 16 yards behind the original line of scrimmage on their overtime chance, ending the game.

During and after the matchup, analysts and fans alike were awed by Mahomes' magic once again, with some calling him the MVP thus far.

The Las Vegas Raiders fell to 2-6 after a 27-20 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The story, as it has been many times this season, was the Raiders blowing another first-half lead.

Las Vegas led 17-0 early and went into halftime with a 20-10 advantage. The squad fell apart in the second half, leading to plenty of mockery on social media.

https://twitter.com/MattOrtega/status/1589349198553829376

Head coach Josh McDaniels faced significant criticism after the game:

Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne helped the Jaguars offense total 403 yards from scrimmage in an impressive offensive effort to come from behind.

The Raiders offense also disappeared in the second half, failing to score a single point while punting three times and turning it over on downs once.

It was a major change from the first half, when Davante Adams exploded for over 100 yards and two scores. Fans were excited to see the All-Pro get back on track after a quiet Week 8.

This still wasn't enough for the Raiders as the second-half struggles led to another loss. The squad hosts the Indianapolis Colts in Week 10, but time is running out to turn things around on the season.

Keenan Allen Won't Play for Chargers vs. Falcons Because of Hamstring Injury

The Los Angeles Chargers will be without star wide receiver Keenan Allen once again, as he has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons because of a hamstring injury, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Allen suffered a hamstring injury in the Chargers' season-opening win over the Las Vegas Raiders, which caused him to miss the team's next five games. He said on Oct. 20 that there was a chance he would remain sidelined through the team's Week 8 bye to be fully recovered when he returns.

However, he appeared in L.A.'s Week 7 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, catching two passes for 11 yards while playing just 32 percent of the team's offensive snaps.

A Pro Bowl selection in each of the last five years, Allen is Los Angeles' No. 1 option in the passing attack. He caught four passes for 66 yards before exiting in the first half against the Raiders.

The 30-year-old has managed to remain healthy in recent years. He missed eight games in 2015 with a kidney injury, and he suffered a torn ACL in the first game of the following season.

Upon his return in 2017, Allen established himself as one of the best receivers in the league and finished with a career-high 1,393 receiving yards to earn his first trip to the Pro Bowl. He has now topped 1,000 yards five times in his 10-year career, including four of the last five seasons.

The Chargers offense is already depleted after losing Pro Bowl offensive tackle Rashawn Slater for the season with a torn biceps.

While Allen is sidelined, Joshua Palmer, DeAndre Carter, Jason Moore Jr. and Michael Bandy figure to be Justin Herbert's top targets out wide until he returns. Mike Williams is also out with a high ankle sprain.
