Saints to Consider Starting Jameis Winston at QB Over Andy Dalton, Dennis Allen Says

The New Orleans Saints fell to last place in the NFC South with Sunday's 20-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the team could be in for a major change.

Per ESPN's Katherine Terrell, Saints head coach Dennis Allen said Monday that he is consdering reinserting Jameis Winston as the starting quarterback over Andy Dalton for this week's game against the Los Angeles Rams, though a decision has not yet been made.

"I think we've gotta look at everything," Allen said. "Yeah, I think we've gotta look at everything. And that will be a process we go through today and tomorrow as we get ready for the Rams."

After Winston was sidelined with back and foot injuries, Dalton has started the past seven games for the Saints (3-7). However, Allen said Dalton's role as the starter was contingent upon the offense continuing to perform well with him under center. New Orleans has totaled just 23 points combined in its last two games after scoring over 20 points in five consecutive outings.

Allen noted that a decision for this week's starter will also come down to Winston's health, adding that he is pushing to play despite the fact that he might not fully recover this year.

"I feel like I think we probably have to visit with him a little bit in terms of that or visit with the medical staff in terms of that," Allen said. "And I think Jameis said this the other day, I don't know that he's ever gonna be 100 percent healthy this season. But he's in here every day, he's in here every morning working with the trainers, getting himself ready. And I feel like he's closer to being there."

The Saints are also reeling from injuries to their offensive line, which will play into the decision for the starting quarterback. New Orleans placed starting center Erik McCoy on injured reserve this weekend. Starting left tackle James Hurst exited early against the Steelers with a concussion, and starting right guard Andrus Peat missed the game entirely.

"I think everything goes into the decision," Allen said. "I don't think any decisions are made in a vacuum. But we've gotta try to do what we feel like gives our team the best chance to win. So that's ultimately what the decision will come down to."

Including Sunday's matchup against the Rams, the Saints have three games left before their bye in Week 14. The NFC South is not out of reach, as the first-place Tampa Bay Buccaneers are just 5-5.

New Orleans will need to go with its best option to keep pace in the division, and that might be Winston, who showed his potential last year with a 14-to-3 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

Baker Mayfield to Start for Panthers vs. Ravens After PJ Walker's Injury

The Carolina Panthers will start Baker Mayfield at quarterback next Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens after PJ Walker suffered a high ankle sprain in Thursday's win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Sam Darnold, who came off injured reserve last week, will serve as Mayfield's backup.

Mayfield started the Panthers' first five games of the season and appeared in one other contest, throwing for 1,117 yards and six touchdowns against four interceptions. The Panthers were 1-4 in games started by Mayfield, versus posting a 2-3 record in the five games started by Walker.

Neither quarterback seems likely to be in Carolina next season after the team fired coach Matt Rhule last month.

Given the struggles of Mayfield and Walker, it's a surprise that Darnold remains buried on the depth chart as a backup. He sat out the first nine weeks of the season with a high ankle sprain, but he knows the offensive system, and his performance could not be appreciably worse than the two other quarterbacks on the depth chart.

The Panthers' inability to find a consistent passing game has limited production for receiver DJ Moore, who has recorded just 39 receptions for 478 yards and three touchdowns. Moore signed a three-year, $61.9 million contract in July but has been one of the biggest fantasy busts of the season given his high preseason draft status.

Devin White Praised by Bucs HC Todd Bowles for Playing After Father's Death

Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Devin White helped lead his team to victory Sunday just days after the death of his father.

Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles praised White for even playing in the game in Germany:

The Buccaneers earned a 21-16 win over the Seattle Seahawks to improve to 5-5 on the season.

White was selected by the Bucs with the fifth pick in the 2019 NFL draft out of LSU. He recorded 242 total tackles, 15 sacks, four forced fumbles and an interception across his first three seasons, and he entered Sunday with a team-high 67 tackles to go with three sacks in nine games.

The 24-year-old Louisiana native showcased impressive durability during his rise to stardom at the collegiate level. He dealt with a knee sprain during his debut campaign but played 32 of a possible 33 games over the next two years.

White and Lavonte David give the Buccaneers one of the top linebacking groups in the league and are a big reason why they remain a contender in the NFC South despite a slow start to the season.

Bucs RB Rachaad White's Fantasy Outlook amid Leonard Fournette's Injury Concerns

Leonard Fournette was deemed doubtful to return to Sunday's 21-16 win for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers over the Seattle Seahawks with a hip injury.

But regardless of whether that injury hampers him going forward, it appears that Rachaad White is in line for a bigger role.

White rushed 22 times for 105 yards on the day, out-touching Fournette (14 carries for 57 yards and a touchdown, one reception for one yard) while making the most of increased opportunity.

Because Fournette found the end zone, he had the bigger fantasy day, registering 10.8 points in PPR leagues compared to White's 10.5 points. But there was no doubt that the usage of both players was a major story around the fantasy football world after the early game in Germany, even before Fournette's injury.

White is going to be a must-add on waivers this week, even with the Bucs heading into a bye.

If Fournette's injury is serious enough to keep him out of action following the bye week, White immediately jumps into the RB2 conversation for your lineup. But if Fournette remains healthy, a full-blown platoon situation may be unfolding.

White appears to be the better pure runner at this point, though Fournette—who came into Sunday with 42 catches for 314 yards and three touchdowns on 49 targets—should still have a significant role in the offense if he can stay on the field, at least as a receiver out of the backfield.

In a platoon situation, both would have risky flex upside unless White steals the job outright or Fournette reasserts his hold on the starting gig. But White showed what he is capable of with a bigger role—for that reason alone, he should be one of your top waiver priorities this week.

Tom Brady's Disastrous Trick Play at WR Roasted by Fans After Bucs QB Slips

It's time to stop asking Tom Brady to do things on a football field that involve anything other than standing in a pocket and throwing a pass.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers went deep into their bag of tricks and asked Brady to serve as a receiver on a Leonard Fournette pass in Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks.

It was every bit the disaster you'd expect from a 45-year-old whose Apple Watch exercise ring doesn't even fill halfway during most games.

To be fair, it's unlikely prime Randy Moss would have been able to pull down a truly terrible pass from Fournette.

That said, what on earth were the Bucs thinking with that play call? We already know throwing the ball to Brady never ends well. The man whose 40-yard-dash became a two-decade meme shouldn't have been running routes at 25, let alone 45.

With the Bucs offense rolling after weeks of struggles, this was a situation where offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich got much too cute in the booth rather than simply sticking with what worked.

The result was...very, very funny, and we all thank Leftwich for his service to our meme folders.

Report: Leonard Fournette's Passport Arrived Hours Before Bucs Flew to Germany

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Leonard Fournette was nearly forced to miss Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks in Germany due to visa issues.

Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported Fournette's replacement passport was delayed due to inclement weather, calling his status into question. Fournette's passport did not arrive until Thursday, just prior to the Bucs' plane leaving for Germany.

The Bucs and Seahawks are set to play the NFL's first regular-season game in Germany as part of an ongoing global expansion. Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league is hopeful to continue expanding its footprint in Germany.

“In our commitment, we're going to play the next four years, at least, and with at least four games,” Goodell told reporters. “I wouldn’t be surprised if it expanded beyond that at some point soon.”

Fournette has rushed for 405 yards and two touchdowns while adding 42 receptions for 314 yards and three scores this season.

Needing a win heading into their Week 11 bye, the Bucs will be thankful Fournette was able to make the trip. Seattle enters the weekend as one of the NFL's worst defenses, which should open up the possibility for a massive game for Fournette.

Buccaneers' Tom Brady Has 'Zero' Regrets About Coming Out of Retirement

Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady has "zero" regrets about coming out of retirement to rejoin a Tampa Bay team that has struggled through the first half of the 2022 campaign, he told reporters Friday.

Brady said, via ESPN's Jenna Laine:

"I returned because I felt like I wanted to compete and I spoke to the team about it and they were excited to have me back. I don't really regret those types of things—I think when I commit to it, I mean it and I do my best and try to give everything I can to this particular opportunity."

Brady announced his retirement from football in February before unretiring just 40 days later, announcing that he would finish out the remainder of his contract with the Buccaneers in 2023, citing "unfinished business."

However, Brady and the Bucs don't look remotely close to being able to contend for another Super Bowl title. While the team is first in the NFC South, it holds a 4-5 record and has posted abysmal losses to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Carolina Panthers and Green Bay Packers.

The 45-year-old added Friday that he thinks the team needs to begin playing with more fire through the second half of the season:

"What can we control? We can certainly control our attitude, our effort. I think everything has been below the line this year—we're 4-5 ... I don't think there's any reason to be happy about anything we've done. Obviously, we're not playing to our standards—we're not there from an effort standpoint, execution standpoint, emotional standpoint. We've got to figure it out—this is a good place to do it."

Brady has put together a respectable season, completing 65.3 percent of his passes for 2,547 yards and 10 touchdowns against one interception through nine games. However, his receiving unit has been somewhat lackluster.

Mike Evans leads the team with 44 catches for 617 yards and three scores on 70 targets, while Chris Godwin ranks second with 42 catches for 404 yards on 65 targets. Russell Gage, Scotty Miller and Breshad Perriman have been mostly ineffective, and Julio Jones has been sidelined for five games due to injury.

Tampa Bay's rushing offense has been even worse. Leonard Fournette has rushed for 405 yards and two scores in nine games, and his backup, Rachaad White, has rushed for just 117 yards and one score.

If the Bucs beat the Seattle Seahawks in Germany on Sunday, they'll be 5-5. Going into the bye week at .500 would be a great way for the team to reset.

Laviska Shenault Jr.'s Fantasy Stock for Dynasty Leagues After Week 10 Breakout

Laviska Shenault Jr. has done just enough to get noticed by fantasy football managers this season, but the inconsistency makes it difficult for anyone to trust the third-year receiver.

Shenault showcased his ability in Thursday's win against the Atlanta Falcons, taking a swing pass to the house for what was officially ruled a 41-yard touchdown run:

It's the second touchdown of the year for Shenault, who also had a 67-yard score in Week 3.

Carolina's offense is desperate for this type of playmaking ability and speed after trading away Christian McCaffrey and Robbie Anderson, which could lead to more playing time going forward. However, he's still behind DJ Moore, Terrace Marshall Jr. and possibly Shi Smith on the depth chart.

Considering he's seen double-digit snaps in just three games this season, Shenault can be left on the waiver wire in redraft leagues. Until he produces in back-to-back games, he isn't worth more than adding to your watch list.

It's a different story in dynasty leagues with deep benches.

Shenault was a favorite among NFL draft analysts coming out of Colorado as a second-round pick in 2020. The Jacksonville Jaguars gave him endless chances in his first two years, and he showed his upside with five touchdowns as a rookie. He became a hot sleeper candidate in 2021 and earned 100 targets, although that resulted in just 63 catches for 619 yards and no touchdowns.

Despite the struggles, it's clear the Jaguars knew he could do damage with the ball in his hands.

The Panthers are finally seeing Shenault's potential as someone who can score from anywhere on the field. Now he just needs a quality quarterback and a creative offensive coach, which he doesn't have in Carolina.

Shenault remains under contract next season, and the Panthers could look very different with a new coaching staff. Quarterbacks PJ Walker, Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold are also all set to become free agents.

If you have the roster space, it might be a good time to add Shenault before a late-season showcase turns him into an impact player in 2023.

Panthers' PJ Walker to Start over Baker Mayfield Against Ravens, Steve Wilks Says

Carolina Panthers head coach Steve Wilks told reporters Friday that PJ Walker will likely remain the starting quarterback in Week 11.

Walker helped the Panthers earn a 25-15 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday, improving the team's record to 3-7. He finished 10-of-16 passing for 108 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in a rain-heavy game.

In six games (five starts), Walker has 731 passing yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.

Carolina benched Walker during the Week 9 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, allowing Baker Mayfield to showcase his ability with 155 passing yards and two touchdowns, but the Panthers went back to Walker for Week 10.

Mayfield, the 2018 No. 1 overall pick, began the season as a starter after joining Carolina in an offseason trade from the Cleveland Browns. However, he played poorly and is 1-4 as a starter.

His 78.1 quarterback rating is the worst of his career, while his 16.9 Total QBR is easily the lowest of 32 qualified players.

Even after returning from a Week 5 ankle injury, Mayfield hasn't done enough to regain his starting job.

Sam Darnold has also returned from an ankle injury suffered in the preseason, but he was inactive for Thursday's game.

It leaves Walker as the top option, even with modest statistics.

Despite the Panthers' struggles, they remain in contention in the NFC South with just one fewer win than the first-place Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Carolina will face the Baltimore Ravens in Week 11.

NFL Twitter Hyped for D'Onta Foreman's Dominance in Panthers' Win vs. Falcons

When the Carolina Panthers traded Pro Bowl running back Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49ers last month, many expected the team's rushing attack to suffer.

However, five-year veteran D'Onta Foreman has developed into the workhorse Carolina needs, and he put forth another dominant performance in the team's 25-15 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday Night Football.

Foreman rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown on 31 carries to spearhead a Panthers team that totaled 232 yards on the ground. It was his third 100-yard rushing effort in his last four games. Receiver Laviska Shenault Jr. had a 41-yard touchdown run in the first half.

But the star of the night was Foreman. On a night where Carolina quarterback PJ Walker attempted just 15 passes, the 26-year-old was able to shoulder the offensive load and carry his team to victory.

Fans on social media were impressed with what they saw from Foreman on Thursday:

https://twitter.com/NotTheRealChinn/status/1590907346166890497

A journeyman who has also played with the Falcons, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans, Foreman may have found himself a home in Carolina. He signed a one-year deal with the team in March, but the Panthers would be wise not to let him hit the open market, as he's shown the ability to be a lead back in any offense.

After improving to 3-7, the Panthers aren't expected to compete for a playoff spot this year. But allowing Foreman to be the focal point of the offensive game plan can lead the team to some success later in the season.

Carolina should continue to let Foreman cook when the team returns to action on Sunday, Nov. 10 against the Baltimore Ravens (6-3).
