Colts' Jim Irsay Says He's 'Not Ready' to Vote Dan Snyder Out as Commanders Owner

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay said Wednesday that he is "not ready" to vote out Daniel Syder as owner of the Washington Commanders.

"I'm not ready to vote him out. I need to hear more here. ... I'm not ready to vote him out," Irsay said, per Mark Maske of the Washington Post. "Again, it's something where we want to get more information about everything."

Irsay also commented on the matter in October, saying that removing Snyder as owner of the Commanders should be carefully considered.

He said at the time, via Maske and Nicki Jhabvala:

"I'm not sure how that report's going to come out. But what already has come out is extremely disturbing, and I disagree with the process. And I most likely disagree that we haven't discussed something more severe such as him being removed as owner. As I said, it's not something that I'm saying we should do. I'm saying it's something that has to be given serious consideration."

Twenty-four owners would need to vote in approval of ousting Snyder as owner of the Washington franchise. However, it might not need to come down to a vote.

Snyder and his wife Tanya announced in November that they had hired Bank of America Securities "to consider potential transactions" involving the Commanders.

Bank of America is set to release the prospectus on the Commanders to potential buyers and sources believe Snyder will "most likely" sell his full stake in the franchise, Maske, Jhabvala and Liz Clarke of the Washington Post reported Wednesday.

Snyder purchased the Commanders for $800 million in 1999. The franchise is now valued at $5.6 billion, according to Forbes.

Amazon tycoon Jeff Bezos, president and CEO of United Wholesale Mortgage Mat Ishbia and media entrepreneur Byron Allen have been linked as potential buyers of the NFL's Washington franchise.

The potential sale of the Commanders comes after Snyder and the franchise were under investigation by the United States House Committee on Oversight for allegedly fostering a toxic workplace environment, in addition to sexual harassment allegations.

The year-long investigation headed by Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney found that the NFL and the Commanders "covered up decades of sexual misconduct":

"The Committee's investigation shows that sexual harassment, bullying, and other toxic conduct pervaded the Commanders workplace, perpetuated by a culture of fear instilled by the Team's owner. Despite the NFL's knowledge, through its internal investigation, that the Team's owner permitted and participated in the workplace misconduct, and engaged in tactics used to intimidate, surveil, and pay off victims, the NFL aligned its legal interests with the Commanders, failed to curtail these abusive tactics, and buried the investigation's findings."

The NFL also conducted its own investigation into the Commanders' workplace culture and fined the franchise $10 million in July 2021 but did not release a written report of the probe's findings.

In addition, the U.S. attorney's office in the Eastern District of Virginia opened an investigation into the Commanders in November for alleged financial improprieties.

The franchise allegedly withheld security deposits from season-ticket holders or made them difficult to get back. It was then fined $250,000 in a settlement with Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh in relation to the security deposits.

In addition, Washington is accused of keeping two accounting books to avoid sending the NFL money meant for the league's revenue-sharing pool.

Texans Rumors: Lovie Smith 'Could Be' on Hot Seat; Eagles' Jonathan Gannon Linked

Lovie Smith could wind up being one-and-done as Houston Texans head coach.

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported Smith is currently on "shaky ground" amid the team's 1-11-1 start.

Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon is reportedly among the names that would be atop Texans general manager Nick Caserio's list of candidates. Gannon interviewed for the position after the Texans fired David Culley last offseason.

Smith was a surprise hire given the fact he was the defensive coordinator for an underperforming Texans team last season. Promoting from within a staff of a fired head coach is always going to raise some eyebrows, especially so in this case because it was not a situation where Culley was fired midway through 2021 and Smith turned the team around as an interim coach.

Smith had previous experience coaching the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers but hadn't had success in a decade. Even his jaunt to the college ranks at Illinois featured five straight losing seasons and a 17-39 record.

All of which is to say it's perfectly understandable that the Texans might want to move on.

That said, the optics in this particular situation would be awful. During a period of time the NFL is being sued for discriminatory hiring practices, the Texans would be firing its second Black head coach in as many seasons after only giving him one year to turn things around.

Culley was thrust into a situation where he was taking over a 4-12 team that lost Deshaun Watson as he sat out the entire 2021 season amid sexual misconduct allegations. Houston still managed to win four games and played competitive football, but Caserio fired him anyway.

Smith was saddled with by far the NFL's worst roster—one seemingly designed to land the Texans the top pick in the 2023 draft—and the team has performed to its talent level.

While Gannon is one of the best assistant coaches in the NFL and deserving of a head-coaching job, the Texans would be opening themselves up to fair scrutiny by hiring a white coach precisely at the time the organization's fortunes could start turning around.

Jeff Saturday 'Not Wavering,' Wants to Interview for Colts' Full-Time HC Position

Indianapolis Colts interim coach Jeff Saturday wants the chance to become the team's permanent coach.

"I'm not wavering," he said Tuesday, per ESPN's Stephen Holder. "I've loved it. I've had a great time."

The Colts are 1-3 since Saturday took over for Frank Reich, losing their last three games after a win over the Las Vegas Raiders. The team lost to the Dallas Cowboys 54-19 on Dec. 4 before its Week 14 open date.

Despite the struggles, Saturday wants an opportunity to earn the full-time job.

"I plan on interviewing," he said. "As long as they give me the interview, I'm in. I enjoy the heck out of this and have had a lot of fun doing it. Again, I'm not discouraged at all. I have a vision of what this could look like in the future and plan to work that way. That's what I do every day—work toward that goal, understanding what that could look like."

Saturday was a surprising hire last month considering he wasn't already on the staff. The six-time Pro Bowl center hadn't coached in the NFL or college prior to joining the Colts.

Team CEO Jim Irsay was still confident Saturday would thrive in the role, leaving open the possibility he will keep the job:

Irsay told reporters there will be a full interview process at the end of the season, which will be necessary to satisfy the Rooney Rule. The Fritz Pollard Alliance initiated an inquiry into the Colts' hiring process last month to check if it conformed with the league's guidelines.

According to ESPN's Dan Graziano, Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator and assistant head coach Leslie Frazier could be a candidate for the job.

Saturday will have a chance to improve his résumé over the next four games, starting with a Week 15 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. The playoffs are a long shot for the 4-8-1 Colts, but a strong finish could help Saturday impress the decision-makers in the front office.

Odell Beckham Jr.'s Top Landing Spots After T.Y. Hilton's Cowboys Contract

The ongoing courtship between the Dallas Cowboys and free-agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. appears to have reached its end, as the Cowboys are reportedly bringing in a veteran pass-catcher.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Jane Slater reported that Dallas reached an agreement with receiver T.Y. Hilton on Monday. The 33-year-old had played 10 years with the Indianapolis Colts and was a four-time Pro Bowl selection.

The addition of Hilton gives the Cowboys the extra offensive weapon they need as the playoffs approach. But where does that leave Beckham?

Here are the top remaining landing spots for the 30-year-old now that Dallas is likely no longer in the running.

Buffalo Bills

Beckham undoubtedly wants to join a contender to win another championship as he did with the Los Angeles Rams last season in Super Bowl LVI. He should look no further than the top team in the AFC.

The Buffalo Bills remained in the No. 1 spot after Sunday's gritty win over the New York Jets. At 10-3, Buffalo is one of the favorites to compete for a Super Bowl title this year, but the team could still use another target for star quarterback Josh Allen.

The Bills have one of the best receivers in the league in Stefon Diggs, who leads the team with 94 receptions, 1,239 yards and 10 touchdowns. However, no other player on the team has 40 catches. Allen's over-reliance on Diggs can come back to haunt Buffalo if teams focus their defense on him.

Adding Beckham to the mix would help take some attention off Diggs. For what it's worth, last month Beckham named the Bills as one of four teams he'd be interested in joining after he completed his recovery from a torn ACL.

San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers are the hottest team in the NFL, earning their sixth straight victory on Sunday with a blowout over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, star receiver Deebo Samuel went down with an ankle injury during the game, putting his status in question for the next few weeks.

Beckham could be the perfect option to fill in for Samuel if he misses extended time. If both are able to be on the field together, it would add a different dimension to an already dynamic 49ers offense.

San Francisco lost veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo for at least the remainder of the regular season because of a broken foot. Rookie signal-caller Brock Purdy proved he can steer the ship in the interim with a three-touchdown performance (two passing, one rushing) against the Bucs.

The 49ers could look to add Beckham as another reliable target for the seventh-round pick as they charge toward the postseason.

Kansas City Chiefs

After losing star wide receiver Tyreek Hill this offseason, the Kansas City Chiefs have had to adjust on offense. However, perennial MVP candidate Patrick Mahomes still has the Chiefs on the cusp of a seventh straight AFC West title.

While Mahomes has been able to make up for Kansas City's deficiencies throughout the regular season, cracks have begun to show. In Sunday's win over the Denver Broncos, he threw three touchdown passes but also had a season-high three interceptions.

The Chiefs had been hoping free-agent additions JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling would be able to make up for the absence of Hill. They've combined to reach the end zone just four times through 13 games. All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce remains the top target in Kansas City's passing attack.

Beckham would provide Mahomes with another option in the explosive Chiefs offense. He could also open things up for Smith-Schuster and Valdes-Scantling. The three-time Pro Bowler would likely have a ton of fun playing in Andy Reid's scheme.

New York Giants

It's never too late to come home. In Beckham's case, a reunion with the team he started his NFL career with would come at a perfect time.

At 7-5-1, the New York Giants are clinging to the seventh seed in the NFC and could surely use a boost as the regular season winds down. New York is 0-3-1 in its last four games and has dealt with injuries to multiple receivers throughout the year.

Darius Slayton leads the Giants with 608 receiving yards, while Richie James leads the team's wide receivers with 38 receptions and three touchdowns. Quarterback Daniel Jones ranks near the bottom of the league with 194.9 passing yards per game. Clearly, New York's air attack could use an injection of energy.

Beckham has appeared to be open to rejoining the Giants, and he had a "good dinner" with head coach Brian Daboll earlier this month. A return to New York would give him the opportunity to be a key contributor to the team's push for the playoffs.

Jerry Jones: Texans' Davis Mills, Jeff Driskel 'Looked Like Brett Favre' vs. Cowboys

Jerry Jones was impressed with the performance of Houston Texans' quarterbacks Davis Mills and Jeff Driskel in the Dallas Cowboys' 27-23 win Sunday over their cross-state rivals.

"Those quarterbacks looked like Brett Favre," he told reporters. "Both of them."

Mills finished 16-of-21 for 175 yards and an interception. Driskel, who had a package of plays installed for him against the Cowboys, was 4-of-6 for 38 yards and a touchdown.

Neither player was sacked and—were it not for Dak Prescott leading the Cowboys on a game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter—might have pulled off an improbable upset.

Instead, the Texans remained on track to earn the top overall pick with a 1-11-1 record, a selection they might ultimately use on a quarterback prospect.

And the Cowboys moved to 10-3, keeping them within striking distance of the Philadelphia Eagles (12-1), who are atop both the NFC East and the entire NFL.

Report: Leslie Frazier a 'Name to Watch' for Colts' Head Coaching Job in Offseason

Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier could be a top candidate to become head coach of the Indianapolis Colts next season, according to Dan Graziano of ESPN.

Graziano reported that Frazier "has been brought up to me by more than one person lately as a name to watch" for the vacancy in Indianapolis.

Jeff Saturday has been the Colts' interim coach since Frank Reich was fired in November, but the team is just 1-3 since the switch and could be seeking a full-time replacement in the offseason.

Frazier would be a qualified candidate after six seasons as the Bills' defensive coordinator, including the last three years as assistant head coach.

Buffalo has the No. 4 scoring defense in the NFL despite being without Pro Bowl cornerback Tre'Davious White for much of the season. Last year, the unit ranked first in both points and yards allowed on the way to an 11-6 record and a trip to the AFC divisional round.

Frazier also has experience in Indianapolis as the defensive backs coach for the 2006 team that won the Super Bowl.

The 63-year-old spent that season under head coach Tony Dungy, who could be an "ally" in the coaching search considering his pull in Indianapolis with owner Jim Irsay, per Graziano.

Though Frazier did struggle in his last stint as a head coach, going 21-32-1 across four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, his resume since then should get him another chance at leading an NFL team.

The Colts could use a veteran leader after falling to 4-8-1 in 2022 despite entering the year with high expectations.

Hiring Frazier, who is Black, would also be a positive step for the franchise after widespread criticism following the addition of Saturday.

The Fritz Pollard Alliance announced it would review the team's process for naming an interim coach who had no prior coaching experience at either the NFL or college level. The organization previously argued the hire went against the "spirit" of the Rooney Rule intended to create opportunities for minority candidates.

Jon Robinson Fired as Titans GM After 6-Plus Seasons with Franchise

The Tennessee Titans announced Tuesday that they've fired general manager Jon Robinson.

Team owner Amy Adams Strunk issued a statement on the move:

"Since becoming controlling owner in 2015, my goal has been to raise the standard for what is expected in all facets of our organization. I believe we have made significant progress both on and off the field through investments in leadership, personnel and new ideas. This progress includes the core of our business, the football team itself, which is regularly evaluated both by results (wins and losses) and team construction/roster building. I am proud of what we have accomplished in my eight seasons of ownership, but I believe there is more to be done and higher aspirations to be met."

Vice president of player personnel Ryan Cowden will run the front office for the rest of the 2022 NFL season before the franchise launches a full search for Robinson's replacement.

Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reported head coach Mike Vrabel is "expected to have significant power" moving forward.

It's unclear what specifically precipitated Robinson's ouster, especially considering he just signed an extension in February. The team is also 7-5 and first in the AFC South, putting it on track to make the playoffs for the fourth straight year and the fifth time in six seasons.

Pelissero reported ownership "wasn't happy with the direction of the roster."

The timing is also odd since there isn't much Cowden can do to strengthen the roster. The trade deadline has passed, and most of the best free agents after the regular season opened have found new homes.

The MMQB's Albert Breer reported some people within the organization were "floored" to learn of the firing. The reaction outside of the building is largely the same.

Absent more context, the A.J. Brown trade will likely be perceived as Robinson's fatal error because it's impossible to ignore this was done two days after Brown torched Tennessee's secondary for 119 receiving yards and two touchdowns in a 35-10 win for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Tennessee seemed to get a solid return when the trade was done, acquiring the Nos. 18 and 101 overall picks in the 2022 draft. Brown might have wanted out one way or the other considering ESPN's Turron Davenport reported he "requested a trade and cut off all contact with the Titans" weeks before the draft.

In retrospect, Robinson probably should've held firm and not acquiesced to Brown's demand.

That wasn't his only notable personnel misstep, either.

Isaiah Wilson, whom the Titans selected 29th overall in 2020, only made one appearance for the team and is no longer on the roster. Caleb Farley, their first-rounder in 2021, hasn't been much better through his first two years.

Then there are the veteran additions that didn't work out, such as acquiring Julio Jones from the Atlanta Falcons and signing Malcolm Butler, Jadeveon Clowney and Bud Dupree.

But those moves happened before Robinson got his extension, once again raising the question as to why now was the time to move on.

Based on Wilson's report, Vrabel appears to be safe, so a new general manager won't be tasked with finding a new head coach.

Considering how much work Robinson's successor has to dismantle the roster, Tennessee could be pivoting toward a rebuild.

'Total Disaster' Matt Ryan Ripped by Twitter During Colts' Blowout Loss to Cowboys

The Matt Ryan trade is proving to be a disaster for the Indianapolis Colts as they continue to search for a reliable signal-caller in the post-Andrew Luck era.

Indianapolis fell to the Dallas Cowboys 54-19 on Sunday night at AT&T Stadium, and Ryan was a big reason why the Colts dropped to 4-8-1 on the season.

Ryan completed 21-of-37 passes for 233 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. He posted a passer rating of 59.8, and the Colts posted a total of five turnovers.

It was a continuation of what has been an underwhelming year for the former Atlanta Falcon. After starting the team's first seven games of the season, Ryan, who suffered a Grade 2 shoulder sprain, was benched for Sam Ehlinger in Week 8, though the move would have happened regardless of the veteran's injury.

Ehlinger was expected to start the remainder of the season for the Colts, but new head coach Jeff Saturday went back to Ryan in a Week 10 win over the Las Vegas Raiders, and Ryan has started ever since.

Following his latest blunder against the Cowboys, NFL Twitter ripped Ryan as a complete and utter disaster:

Ryan entered Sunday's game having completed 68.8 percent of his passes for 2,642 yards and 11 touchdowns against 10 interceptions in 10 games.

The 37-year-old is under contract with the Colts through the 2023 campaign with a cap hit of $35.2 million, per Spotrac. However, it's unclear if he'll still be on the roster beyond this season, and releasing him would cost the Colts $18 million against the 2023 salary cap.

At this point, the Colts should be shifting their attention to some of the best quarterbacks in the 2023 NFL draft class, especially considering they'll likely have the opportunity to land one of the best young signal-callers in the nation.

A.J. Brown's Revenge Game vs. Sends NFL Twitter Wild as Eagles Beat Titans

A.J. Brown got his revenge against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday as the wide receiver led the Philadelphia Eagles to a 35-10 Week 13 victory.

The Titans traded Brown to the Eagles in April, but they certainly missed him in this one as he tallied eight catches for 119 yards and two touchdowns.

The 2020 Pro Bowler helped put the game away early in the second half with an impressive touchdown catch:

Fans knew what the game meant to the 25-year-old facing the team that drafted him:

Those watching the game continue to heap praise on the wideout, who also had a long touchdown in the first half.

Both scores showed off his incredible skill set:

Jalen Hurts had an impressive game himself, throwing three touchdowns to go with one rushing score. Brown was still the story of the day as he showed the Titans exactly what they were missing.

It helped the Eagles improve to 11-1 on the season, while Tennessee is 7-5 after a second straight loss.

The Titans could still be happy with the trade after landing receiver Treylon Burks in the first round of the draft. The rookie left with an injury, but not before scoring his first career touchdown with an incredible effort.

The Eagles are still happy with Brown, but the deal could end up becoming a win-win for the two organizations.

Jeff Saturday Defends Clock Management in 4th Quarter of Colts' Loss vs. Steelers

Indianapolis Colts interim head coach Jeff Saturday explained Monday night why he elected not to use timeouts during Indy's final drive of the game in a 24-17 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Coming out of the two-minute warning, Colts quarterback Matt Ryan was sacked for a loss of seven yards and then scrambled for 14 yards on second down, leaving him a few yards short of the first.

The Colts had all three of their timeouts, but rather than taking one and regrouping prior to the third-down play, they stayed in their offense and handed it off to running back Jonathan Taylor, who was tackled for no gain.

Saturday finally used the team's first timeout after that with 30 seconds left, and the Colts were then stopped on 4th-and-3 in Steelers territory when Ryan's pass was broken up, effectively ending the game.

According to ESPN's Stephen Holder, Saturday said the following when asked about the logic behind not using any timeouts earlier in the sequence, particularly before the Taylor run:

"I thought we had a good play. And I felt like we would get it. Obviously, we didn't do a great job [blocking] on the backside, so it's worse. But I felt good about the call before. Felt like we had time, we would have timeouts afterwards. We were in striking distance. So, I never felt like the pressure of needing the timeout. We just didn't execute it."

Saturday added that he would have preferred if Ryan had been able to "snap it a little bit earlier" in the play clock, but he again downplayed the time issue, saying he "never felt pressed for time."

The Colts trailed 16-3 at halftime, but Saturday's team mounted a comeback, scoring back-to-back touchdowns in the third quarter to take a 17-16 lead.

Pittsburgh answered in the fourth when running back Benny Snell found the end zone from two yards out, and rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett completed a two-point-conversion pass to rookie wideout George Pickens, putting the Steelers back on top 24-17.

The Colts had their opportunities to strike back, but the offense sputtered, much as it has throughout the season.

Offensive issues played a huge role in head coach Frank Reich's firing, which led to Saturday's surprising appointment as interim head coach.

Saturday is a beloved figure in Colts history as a six-time Pro Bowl and two-time first-team All-Pro center, as well as a Super Bowl champion, but his coaching credentials are limited.

Prior to being named interim head coach, Saturday had only served as the head coach at Hebron Christian Academy in Georgia from 2017 to 2020.

Naturally, Colts owner Jim Irsay's decision to hire Saturday sparked some criticism, although the move initially seemed to work well, as Indy upset the Las Vegas Raiders in his first game at the helm.

He then nearly led the Colts to a huge win over the Philadelphia Eagles, who came from behind to down the Colts 17-16.

The honeymoon phase may now be over for Saturday, though, especially in the wake of Monday's failed two-minute drill. Calling timeouts may not have made a difference in the end, but the Indianapolis offense seemed hurried, and the decision to hold off on timeouts may have contributed to that.
