Victor Wembanyama became the youngest player to win the MVP award in the French LNB All-Star Game's history on Thursday night, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN).

The French LNB's All-Star Game is a matchup between the league's French players and non-French players. Wembanyama, 18, helped his team secure a 136-128 victory with 27 points, 12 rebounds and four assists.

Wembanyama leads the French league with averages of 22.9 points and 9.6 rebounds this season. He turns 19 on Jan. 4.

The generational talent is expected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft. He already showcased his talents in the United States during the Las Vegas showcase when the Metropolitans 92 took on the G League Ignite.

In two matchups against the Ignite, Wembanyama totaled 73 points, 15 rebounds, two steals and nine blocks.

In an interview with Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press in October, Wembanyama said his goal is to be like nothing the NBA has ever seen before:

"I'm gonna tell you something that's been going on in my life, like for my whole life, since I've been a kid, even before I played basketball. I've always tried to do [something] different. I'm not even talking about sports, whatever. Any field, I'm always trying to be original, something original, something one of one, something that's never been done before. And this is really how it worked in my life. I don't know where it comes from. I think I was born with it. I've always been trying to be original. Unique, that's the word."

Whichever team lands the No. 1 overall pick will get the opportunity to draft Wembanyama in the summer. The Detroit Pistons (9-28), Charlotte Hornets (10-26), Houston Rockets (10-25), and San Antonio Spurs (12-23) have the best odds of landing him.

Victor Wembanyama: Tanking by NBA Teams 'Unreasonable' and 'Weird Strategy'

Victor Wembanyama hasn't even hit an NBA court yet, but he's already being labeled a generational talent.

Because of the Frenchman's insane talent that has drawn rave reviews from the likes of LeBron James and Stephen Curry, the idea of teams tanking to improve their chances of selecting him with the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA draft has been a hot topic this year.

Wembanyama, however, expressed confusion about the tanking approach in an interview with Le Parisien.

"Tanking? It's a weird strategy," Wembanyama said. "I find it unreasonable, and I try not to think about it. I also heard that the NBA considered changing a few rules for me, but that doesn't concern me."

Wembanyama is expected to be the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA draft, topping the likes of Scoot Henderson and Amen Thompson.

The 19-year-old is 7-foot-2, has a wingspan of nearly eight feet and can play any position on the court. His combination of size, shooting and skill makes him one of the most desirable prospects the league has seen in a long time.

Wembanyama's talents were on full display in the United States for the first time in October when Metropolitans 92 met the G League Ignite in the Las Vegas showcase. He finished the first matchup with 37 points, four rebounds, one steal and five blocks, and the second game with 36 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, one steal and four blocks.

In an interview with Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press in October, Wembanyama stated that while he has drawn inspiration from some of the NBA's best players, such as Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo, he's excited to carve out his own path at the next level:

I'm gonna tell you something that's been going on in my life, like for my whole life, since I've been a kid, even before I played basketball. I've always tried to do [something] different. I'm not even talking about sports, whatever. Any field, I'm always trying to be original, something original, something one of one, something that's never been done before. And this is really how it worked in my life. I don't know where it comes from. I think I was born with it. I've always been trying to be original. Unique, that's the word.

Entering Thursday's slate, the Detroit Pistons (9-28), Charlotte Hornets (9-26), Houston Rockets (11-23), and San Antonio Spurs (10-24) had the best odds of winning the NBA draft lottery.

There's still plenty of season left, and the odds for those teams could obviously change. But if the NBA finds out teams are deliberately losing games in an attempt to secure the No. 1 overall pick and a shot at Wembanyama, there's a chance it can hand down some significant punishment.

NBA Scout: Don't Pass on Victor Wembanyama at No. 1 in 2023 Draft over Injury Concern

Though fans might worry about Victor Wembanyama's injury risk because of his slender 7'2" frame, NBA scouts aren't concerned about the clear top prospect in the 2023 NBA draft.

"Some people compared his physique with Chet Holmgren, but Victor's shoulders and frame are better," a scout told Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. "You don't pass on him [at] No. 1 because you're worried about an injury at his size."

Wembanyama has caught the attention of nearly everyone in NBA circles, with even current stars like LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo praising the top prospect. The versatile player has an impressive handle for his size and can score in different ways while remaining an elite shot-blocker.

The upside is enough to overlook nearly any risk, making him a near-lock to go No. 1 overall in the June draft.

At just 229 pounds, durability could still be an issue in his career. Chet Holmgren (7'0", 195 lbs) will miss the entire 2022-23 season because of a foot injury after being taken No. 2 overall in the last draft. Kristaps Porziņģis (7'3", 240 lbs) has also been limited by injuries throughout his career, playing fewer than 60 games in six straight years.

Wembanyama will hope for better injury luck once he reaches the NBA.

The Larry O'Brien Trophy is the ultimate prize in the NBA, but some teams without a realistic chance to compete for a championship may be eyeing a different prize: the chance to draft Victor Wembanyama with the No. 1 pick of the 2023 draft.

Tanking—and how to curb it—is often a topic of discussion in NBA circles and that figures to be even more relevant this season considering Wembanyama could be a franchise-altering superstar for whichever team is fortunate enough to land the No. 1 pick during the draft lottery.

With that as the backdrop, Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports reported NBA Commissioner Adam Silver was among those in favor of an idea that was discussed that would prevent teams from landing in the top three of the lottery in consecutive years.

According to Goodwill, the idea "gained traction in preliminary meetings but was met with resistance by a small handful of general managers."

ESPN's Baxter Holmes reported Silver discussed tanking during a meeting with Phoenix Suns employees and said he has held "hundreds" of meetings on the "serious issue" and even revealed the league has considered a relegation system that would send the worst one or two teams to the G League and promote teams to take their place.

However, he told ESPN's Malika Andrews (h/t Marc Stein) "I can't say I was deadly serious" about relegation.

Still, Silver pointed out to Suns employees that "we put teams on notice. We're going to be paying particular attention to the issue this year."

The NBA took efforts to curb tanking in 2019 when it changed the lottery odds. Previously, the team that finished with the worst record in the league had a 25 percent chance of acquiring the first pick, while the second-worst team (19.9 percent) and third-worst team (15.6 percent) had lower odds.

The 2019 changes implemented a system where the teams with the three worst records all have a 14 percent chance of that top pick.

In theory, the creation of the play-in tournament could also cut down on tanking since there are more postseason spots available and a greater reason for teams on the bubble to compete down the stretch of the regular season.

Yet tanking remains a serious concern in league circles, and that figures to remain the case while some teams dream of a future with Wembanyama in the frontcourt.

The new NBA app will stream projected No. 1 overall 2023 draft pick Victor Wembanyama's games this season, per Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

Wembanyama plays for Boulogne-Levallois Metropolitans 92 in France's top professional basketball tier, LNB Pro A. He has averaged 18.6 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game for the 4-1 team, which sits in third place.

Wembanyama, who stands at 7'3" without shoes, has been called the "best NBA prospect since LeBron James," per Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer.

James himself called Wembanyama an "alien" and a "generational talent."

"Everybody has been labeling this unicorn thing," James said, per ESPN.com's Jeremy Willis. Everybody has been a unicorn for the last two years, but he's more like an alien. I've never seen -- no one has ever seen anyone as tall as he is, but as fluid and as graceful as he is out on the floor.

"...His ability to put the ball on the floor, shoot step-back jumpers out of the post, step-back 3s, catch-and-shoot 3s, block shots ... He's for sure a generational talent."

The hype around Wembanyama recently skyrocketed after he starred in two exhibitions featuring his Metropolitans 92 versus fellow elite prospect Scoot Henderson's G League Ignite. He finished with 37 points (including seven three-pointers) and five blocks in the first game and 36 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks in the second.

The 18-year-old can't enter the NBA draft until next year, but for now, fans can watch him lead Metropolitans 92. The team has a 34-game LNB Pro A schedule that runs until May.

Report: Adam Silver Says NBA 'Put Teams on Notice,' Will Be Watching Tanking Closely

With so much attention being paid to Victor Wembanyama and the top of the 2023 NBA draft, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver is keeping a close eye on how teams handle their rosters during the regular season.

Per ESPN's Baxter Holmes, during a recent meeting with employees of the Phoenix Suns, Silver said the league has "put teams on notice" regarding potentially tanking to improve their draft position this season.

After Wembanyama's performance in two exhibition games against fellow top prospect Scoot Henderson this month, it was immediately assumed by analysts and fans that non-contending teams would go all-in on a race to the bottom of the standings.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Jonathan Givony reported on Oct. 5, one day after Wembanyama dropped 37 points on 7-of-11 three-point shooting for Metropolitans 92 against Henderson and the G League Ignite, that the game was "expected to become a factor in how aggressively teams might proceed in joining that race to the bottom of the standings."

One general manager told Wojnarowski and Givony the 18-year-old French superstar is "a 7'4" (Kevin) Durant who blocks shots" and "will be the most hyped player since LeBron."

Speaking to reporters on Oct. 6, Silver attempted to downplay any suggestion teams might attempt to lose games on purpose to improve their lottery odds.

"I know that many of our NBA teams are salivating at the notion that potentially through our lottery, they can get him, so they should all still compete very hard next season," he said.

According to Holmes, Silver did note the league has considered a possible relegation system that's used in soccer but acknowledged it would be disruptive to the NBA's entire business model.

"And even if you took two teams up from the G League," Silver told Suns employees, "they wouldn't be equipped to compete in the NBA."

The concept of tanking is nothing new in the NBA. There are examples of it happening virtually every year, but this could be a special circumstance because of how physically impressive Wembanyama is and how much talent he possesses.

This time around, though, it seems like Silver and other league officials will be keeping a close eye on how often teams are resting their best players.
