Jon Moxley Says He, Kenny Omega Are Best in the World, Aren't Being 'Held Back'

Ahead of his AEW World Championship match against Kenny Omega at Revolution on Sunday, Jon Moxley called himself and Omega the best wrestlers in the world.
Mox made the declaration Friday in an interview with Steven Muehlhausen of DAZN, who asked if he and Omega were the "the two best guys in this business":
"To answer your question very simply and expediently, yes. But I'm not, especially in something like wrestling; it's not like hockey where if you win a Stanley Cup, you're the best hockey team. In wrestling, that's not necessarily the case. It's different. ...
"But yes, I think we are the two best wrestlers in the world right now. Because if I had to answer why, I'd say because what we do, especially here at AEW, is we're being the best versions of ourselves. We're not being fettered or held back. We're not being put in any boxes. We're fully creating the things we want to create, the things we want to be. We're not being held back by just about anything."
To Moxley's point, he and Omega will do battle in a match at Revolution that has been a rarity in the United States.
Moxley and Omega are set to clash in an Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatch, which is a stipulation that was popularized in Japan in the 1990s and has never gone mainstream in American wrestling promotions.
Since leaving WWE to sign with AEW, Moxley has often talked about how much more freedom he has. It is fair to say that WWE never would have allowed Mox to compete in an Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatch, given that the company primarily caters to a young audience.
Moxley and Omega have wrestled in a hardcore match before, as Moxley beat Omega in an unsanctioned "lights out" match at Full Gear in 2019. That match was brutal in that it featured plenty of weaponry and blood, but Sunday's match could be even more intense.
In addition to proving they can thrive in that environment, Moxley and Omega showed good chemistry in a regular singles match in December as well, which is when Omega beat Moxley for the AEW World Championship.
Sunday's bout could very well spell the end of the rivalry between Moxley and Omega for now, and it presents them with a great opportunity to prove Moxley's thesis that they are the two best wrestlers in the world.

Stars Who Will Shine Brightest at AEW Revolution 2021

The 2021 edition of All Elite Wrestling's Revolution pay-per-view looks set to be one of the best shows in recent years, but it is the possibility of stars shining brighter than the rest that has the wrestling world so excited.
From Darby Allin getting the rub of working with a bona fide legend in Sting to Ryo Mizunami running the table in the Women's World Championship Eliminator Tournament, Sunday's show is set up to let fresh faces shine bright.
Here are the wrestlers who will steal the show Sunday night.
Darby Allin
There are few Superstars on the AEW roster as enigmatic as Darby Allin. Between the face paint, the extreme stunts and the lack of fear, wrestling fans have gravitated toward Allin, and he is one of the most popular people in the sport.
At Revolution, Allin gets to team with a man who was described by many for years the exact same way: Sting.
While Team Taz should not be discounted—Brian Cage and Ricky Starks are two of the most talented performers around—Sunday's tag team match is a showcase for Allin because casual fans will be watching Sting closely.
Instead of squandering the moment, Allin will take all of the eyes there to watch Sting and focus them on him through his outlandish in-ring style and the daredevil approach to help the duo win the match.
Ryo Mizunami
For many fans, the first time they even heard Ryo Mizunami's name was when she was announced for the Women's World Championship Eliminator Tournament. After a successful run to a championship match against Hikaru Shida, no one will forget her name.
Not only did Mizunami beat the likes of Maki Itoh, Aja Kong and Yuka Sakazaki to earn her place in the tournament finals, but she also managed to defeat Nyla Rose in shocking fashion on Dynamite to cement her spot in the championship match at Revolution.
The resulting match between Shida and Mizunami should be incredible, but there are questions about whether the challenger will walk away with the championship. After stunning onlookers on her way through the tournament, what better way to cement Mizunami as a top star than by having her beat Shida?
Jon Moxley
Since jumping from WWE to AEW in May 2019, no one has made a bigger impact on the wrestling world than Jon Moxley. As the wrestler of the year and a creative genius, fans can't wait to see his version of an Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatch.
Add in the fact that this extreme stipulation is an AEW World Championship match, and Sunday's main event should have fans talking for a long time.
Not only is Moxley a well-known student of wrestling, but he is also going up against one of the greatest minds in the sport today in Kenny Omega. And given the champion's extensive knowledge of Japanese wrestling, this Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatch could be a game-changer.
For years, wrestling has felt stagnant and boring. The infusion of hardcore action into the casual product should provide a much-needed spark. With the likelihood of interference through the roof, this matchup will be unforgettable.

Top Matches to Watch
Kenny Omega vs. Jon Moxley
Omega and Moxley have faced each other on multiple occasions in AEW, but Sunday promises to be the most heated encounter between them yet.
The former's heel turn was cemented in December when he cheated to beat Moxley for the AEW World Championship by using a microphone handed to him by Don Callis, and Mox has been out for revenge ever since.
With Moxley refusing to back down and go away, Omega shockingly challenged him to an Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatch, which is the type of match that is right in Moxley's wheelhouse.
When Omega and Moxley went one-on-one for the first time at Full Gear in 2019, they battled it out in an unsanctioned match, which featured tons of weapons and hardcore spots. Sunday's match figures to be similar, but they must get creative in order to take it to the next level.
Moxley excels in a hardcore environment, and Omega is widely regarded as one of the best in-ring workers in the world, which creates no shortage of intrigue regarding what they will be willing to attempt at Revolution.
Also, since there are no rules, the possibility exists for plenty of interference. The Good Brothers seem like a sure bet to get involved on Omega's behalf, but someone like New Japan Pro-Wrestling star Kenta could possibly turn up as well, especially after losing his IWGP United States Championship match against Moxley recently.
Omega vs. Moxley will be chock-full of big spots, smoke and mirrors, and everything in between, which should make for a highly entertaining main event at Revolution.
Sting and Darby Allin vs. Brian Cage and Ricky Starks
If Omega vs. Moxley is the main draw for Revolution, the in-ring debut of wrestling legend Sting in AEW may not be far behind.
Sting shocked the wrestling world when he appeared in AEW in December, and it wasn't long before he aligned himself with TNT champion Darby Allin and entered into a rivalry with Team Taz.
The Icon hasn't had a match since WWE Night of Champions 2015, which was the event that saw him suffer a scary neck injury against Seth Rollins. Despite concerns about his injury history and age (61), he looks ready to compete.
On a recent edition of Dynamite, Sting mixed it up with Team Taz and took his first televised bump in years, absorbing a huge powerbomb from Cage.
While there is always risk involved when it comes to wrestling, AEW has put Sting in a situation that should largely allow him to be protected. The street fight stipulation means there won't necessarily be a need for him to take any big bumps, as he can just engage in a brawling style instead. Also, the tag team aspect will allow Allin to do much of the heavy lifting for the team.
AEW is clearly trying to use Sting to get Allin even more over as a top guy in the company, and the street fight can go a long way toward accomplishing that.
One can only assume that Sting will go over in his first match in AEW, but there is still plenty of intrigue involved since it has been so long since he competed in the ring.
Young Bucks vs. Chris Jericho and MJF
A personal rivalry will be settled Sunday at Revolution when The Young Bucks put the AEW World Tag Team Championship on the line against Inner Circle members Chris Jericho and MJF.
Jericho and MJF became the No. 1 contenders when they won a recent tag team Battle Royal, and they wasted little time in attempting to get inside The Young Bucks' heads and under their skin.
Most notably, Jericho and MJF attacked The Bucks' father backstage on a recent episode of Dynamite, leaving him battered and bloodied.
The champions responded the following week by attacking Jericho and MJF, but not before Matt Jackson ran them down on the mic by saying that without AEW, MJF would be in his parents' basement and that Jericho would be "jerking the curtain at the Performance Center" for WWE.
Adding to the interest surrounding the match was the status of The Inner Circle, which suffered a significant hit in February when Sammy Guevara quit because of his issues with MJF.
Guevara hasn't been seen since, but it isn't outside the realm of possibility that he could interfere Sunday, either costing Jericho and MJF or perhaps even costing The Young Bucks and revealing that the dissent was all a ruse.
Whether or not Guevara plays a role, The Young Bucks vs. Jericho and MJF has show-stealing potential, and it will put the tag titles on a pedestal.

3 Burning Questions
1. How crazy does the exploding barbed wire deathmatch get?
The short answer? Incredibly crazy.
Most of us probably thought there was no way Omega and Moxley could top the extremity of their Lights Out match at Full Gear in 2019. It seems that they're ready to prove us wrong Sunday.
Omega and Moxley are no strangers to using barbed wire against each other after the latter threw the both of them through a table topped with it over a year ago.
However, exploding barbed wire is a whole different matter. For those unfamiliar, similar matches in past years from smaller promotions usually replace the standard ring ropes with barbed wire. These much more dangerous barriers explode when touched and make for incredibly extreme bouts.
Let's see just how crazy this one gets.
2. How does Sting look in his in-ring return?
Despite the allure of the world championship match, the in-ring return of Sting might just be the most anticipated match at Revolution.
For the first time since 2015, The Icon will compete inside a ring with the help of TNT champion Darby Allin as they take on Brian Cage and Ricky Starks of Team Taz.
This feud began when Sting made his shocking return to wrestling at Winter Is Coming last December to confront Team Taz after they attacked Allin, Cody and Dustin Rhodes and Arn Anderson. Since then, the two teams have had a war of words that led to Cage power-bombing Sting. A week later, Sting broke out his patented Stinger Splash and Scorpion Death Drop to lay Cage out.
Let's see what the 61-year-old legend can still do Sunday.
3. Who will AEW sign at Revolution?
This past episode of Dynamite, a debuting Paul Wight teased a "Hall of Fame-worthy" hiring that will be announced at Revolution.
"It's a huge surprise and a huge asset to AEW," Wight said. Speculation has swirled as to who the signing could be, but if it's really as big as the future Hall of Famer says it is, we're in for quite a surprise.
Who do you think the signing will be? Let us know in the comments.
AEW Revolution: Full Preview of Biggest Feuds on the Card

All Elite Wrestling's Revolution airs live on Sunday and features many intriguing matches in the company's first pay-per-view of 2021.
Expectations are high for the Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatch (yes, you read that right) between Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley for the AEW world championship, the highly anticipated in-ring return of Sting and the Young Bucks defending their tag team titles against Chris Jericho and MJF.
Here's the breakdown of the biggest feuds at Revolution.

Kenny Omega vs. Jon Moxley (Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatch for AEW world championship)
Most of us probably thought there was no way Omega and Moxley could top the extremity of their Lights Out match at Full Gear in 2019. It seems that they're ready to prove us all wrong this Sunday.
Exploding barbed wire matches are most popular in Japan where Omega wrestled for years and where he found his source of inspiration to challenge Moxley with this stipulation.
Moxley is motivated to get his title back after losing it at Winter Is Coming last December. Let's see how crazy this one gets.
Sting and Darby Allin vs. Brian Cage and Ricky Starks (street fight)
Since then, the two teams have had a war or words that led to Cage power bombing Sting. A week later, Sting broke out his patented Stinger Splash and Scorpion Death Drop to lay Cage out.
Let's see what the 61-year-old legend can still do this Sunday.
Young Bucks vs. Chris Jericho and MJF (world tag team championship)
Since MJF joined The Inner Circle, things haven't exactly gone smoothly. Sammy Guevara left the faction after his many disagreements with MJF and how he was being incorporated into the group. Since then, Jericho and MJF have built a partnership, setting their eyes on the tag team championship.
The build-up to this match took a particularly ugly turn when Jericho and MJF assaulted the Young Bucks' father backstage, drawing blood in the process. The Young Bucks will look to defend their titles a third time since winning them at Full Gear last November.
Hikaru Shida vs. Nyla Rose or Ryo Mizunami (women's world championship)
At the time of writing, the women's eliminator tournament final between Nyla Rose and Ryo Mizunami hadn't happened yet. The three-week-long tournament that started with 16 women comes to a close on the March 3 edition of Dynamite. Rose, who won the American side of the bracket, defeated Tay Conti, Britt Baker and Thunder Rose to get to the final. Meanwhile, Mizunami won the Japan side by defeating Maki Itoh, Aja Kong and Yuka Sakazaki.
Shida has been the women's world champion since defeating Rose in a No Disqualification match at Double or Nothing last May. If those two women meet again at Revolution, there are sure to be fireworks.
Cody Rhodes vs. Lance Archer vs. Scorpio Sky vs. Penta El Zero Miedo vs. TBA vs. TBA (Face of the Revolution ladder match for shot at TNT Championship)
Ladder matches are always chaotic, and this will be no different. Former TNT champion Rhodes looks to get back into the title picture with a win, but he'll have to get by an old foe in Archer and high-flyers Sky and Penta. Preston Vance will take on Max Casper in a qualifier on March 3 to earn the fifth spot in the match, while AEW president Tony Khan told B/R Live that the sixth participant will be announced at Revolution.
Adam Page vs. Matt Hardy
Hardy, now also a manager whose clients include Private Party, tried to trick Page into coming on as another client by signing a contract that would give him 30 percent of Hangman’s earnings. However, Page was aware of Hardy's true intentions and switched out that contract without Hardy knowing for a match contract between the two of them at Revolution.
The winner receives the loser's 2021 first-quarter earnings.
Orange Cassidy and Chuck Taylor vs. Miro and Kip Sabian
Miro joined AEW last September to be Sabian's best man at his wedding. Since then, Best Friends have gotten on their nerves by accidentally destroying Miro's wedding gift to Sabian and interrupting the ceremony to attack them. After months of going back and forth, these two teams finally settle their differences at Revolution.
Casino Tag Team Royale (winner earns shot at tag team championship)
Opportunity awaits the winner of the Casino Tag Team Royale. Eight teams will compete for a shot at the tag team championship, including two teams representing The Dark Order (Evil Uno/Stu Grayson and John Silver/Alex Reynolds), Santana and Ortiz, Private Party, The Butcher and The Blade, Top Flight, Bear Country and a team to be announced.
Teams are eliminated when both members are thrown over the top rope.
