Baker Mayfield Says Shoulder Injury 'Feels Like S--t'; Browns QB Will Undergo MRI

The Cleveland Browns have more to worry about than Sunday's 37-14 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield told reporters his shoulder "feels like s--t" and is "probably" worse than last time. He was playing with a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder and fell on it awkwardly when he was hit by J.J. Watt.

"MRI tomorrow, so we'll be able to find out more," Mayfield said when revealing he will continue to play.

Kimberley A. Martin of ESPN noted the quarterback's left arm was in a sling after the game.

Mayfield's injury wasn't the only one for the Browns.

Neither Nick Chubb nor Jarvis Landry suited up, Kareem Hunt was carted off, and Odell Beckham Jr. suffered a shoulder injury but returned to the game.

The result was a blowout loss that was never truly in doubt after the Cardinals jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the first half. Cleveland's defense didn't provide much help for the injured offense and allowed four touchdown passes to Kyler Murray, two of which went to DeAndre Hopkins.

Making matters worse for the Browns is the fact they have a short turnaround heading into Week 7.

They face the Denver Broncos on Thursday and might be shorthanded in the matchup against a fellow 3-3 AFC team.

Yet Mayfield, who threw for 234 yards, two touchdowns and one interception during Sunday's loss, said he plans on taking the field even without many recovery days.

Browns' Kareem Hunt Carted to Locker Room vs. Cardinals with Calf Injury

Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt was carted to the locker room in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals.

The Browns confirmed he wouldn't return due to a calf injury.

The running game has been a cornerstone of Cleveland's offense, and Hunt has undoubtedly played a role in its success. Through five games, he has run for 295 yards and five touchdowns while averaging 5.4 yards per carry. He has also caught 17 passes for 149 yards.

As a team, Cleveland is first in the league in rushing yards (187.6 per game).

The Browns can still count on Nick Chubb, who's on his way to his third straight 1,000-yard season, and they shouldn't have much trouble leaning more on a passing game that includes Odell Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry and Austin Hooper.

But Hunt's absence will undoubtedly be felt nonetheless. While he didn't match his first two years with the Kansas City Chiefs, he finished with 1,145 yards from scrimmage and 11 touchdowns in 2020.

Pivoting to Demetric Felton or D'Ernest Johnson as the backup behind Chubb is an obvious step down for the offense.

Kareem Hunt, D'Ernest Johnson Fantasy Outlook After Nick Chubb's Injury

The Cleveland Browns will be without Nick Chubb, who will sit out Week 6 with a calf injury. Fortunately, the team has an elite-level backup in Kareem Hunt to pick up the slack both on the field and in fantasy leagues.

Hunt has been a consistent producer when in lineups during his NFL career, excelling both as a runner and receiver. He finished the 2020 season with 1,145 yards from scrimmage despite splitting time in the backfield, adding 11 touchdowns.

During the four games Chubb missed last season, Hunt had 254 rushing yards, 71 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Most fantasy managers have used Hunt even with a healthy Chubb, but he becomes a must-start as the go-to option in the backfield, regardless of matchup. If he sees close to 20 touches, there is RB1 upside with the 26-year-old.

The injury also provides an opening for D'Ernest Johnson and Demetric Felton.

Johnson showed some upside last season when Chubb suffered a knee injury, tallying 95 rushing yards in a Week 4 win over the Dallas Cowboys. Felton has been the more exciting player in 2021 with explosive plays as a receiver and on special teams.

If you have a roster space and need help at running back, Felton could be worth the speculative add for his upside, but keep expectations low as Hunt becomes the workhorse on the offense.

Browns' Nick Chubb Ruled out vs. Cardinals Because of Calf Injury

Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb has been ruled out of Sunday's Week 6 game against the Arizona Cardinals because of a calf injury.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported the update Friday.

Chubb, 25, has gained 558 yards from scrimmage and scored four touchdowns for the Browns. He's also gained 5.8 yards per carry.

The ex-Georgia star, who is in his third NFL season, has largely excelled for the Browns since Cleveland took him 35th overall in the 2018 draft.

Chubb gained 1,145 scrimmage yards and scored 10 touchdowns in 2018. He enjoyed a breakout game against the Atlanta Falcons on Nov. 11 with 209 total yards and two scores.

In 2019, Chubb rushed for 1,494 yards and eight touchdowns in addition to 36 catches and 278 receiving yards.

The 2020 season started well for Chubb, who gained 232 rushing yards and scored four times in Weeks 2 and 3 against the Cincinnati Bengals and Washington Football Team, respectively.

He suffered an MCL sprain in his right knee during his team's 49-38 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Oct. 4 and missed Cleveland's following four games.

The former Georgia star returned to the field on Nov. 15 against the Houston Texans.

Unfortunately, Chubb will miss at least one game, meaning Kareem Hunt should once again take over backfield duties.

The ex-Kansas City Chief and fourth-year pro has amassed 444 yards from scrimmage and five touchdowns for Cleveland this year.

Hunt started all four games that Chubb missed in October and November 2020. He had 325 total yards and two touchdowns and gained 3.9 yards per carry.

Demetric Felton and D'Ernest Johnson round out the team's running back depth chart.

The front yard of Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett is a haunting sight for NFL quarterbacks.

To celebrate Halloween, the two-time Pro Bowler decorated his yards with gravestones with the names of various signal-callers across the NFL.

Of course, nothing has been scarier for opposing players than seeing Garrett in uniform. Through five games, he has an NFL-high seven sacks and eight tackles for loss. He had 4.5 sacks in Cleveland's 26-6 Week 3 victory over the Chicago Bears, helping to limit the Bears to one net passing yard.

The Browns host the Pittsburgh Steelers on Oct. 31 in Week 8. Ben Roethlisberger will be wise to steer clear of Garrett's residence when he makes the trek to Northeast Ohio.

Odell Beckham Jr. Rumors: Browns Could Move On from WR in 2022; Not on Trade Block

The Cleveland Browns could reportedly move on from wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. following the 2021 NFL season.

Jeff Howe of The Athletic reported Thursday that Beckham's name hasn't popped up on the trade block ahead of the Nov. 2 deadline, but there are "signs pointing toward" the front office trading or releasing him during the offseason.

Beckham was one of the NFL's most explosive playmakers across his first three seasons with the New York Giants from 2014 through 2016. He compiled 288 catches for 4,122 yards and 35 touchdowns while earning three straight Pro Bowl selections.

He suffered a fractured ankle in 2017, and while he topped 1,000 yards with New York in 2018 and Cleveland in 2019, he's never returned to the upper echelon of receivers. Further complicating matters is a torn ACL he suffered last season.

The 28-year-old LSU product missed the first two games of the current campaign while completing his recovery from that knee injury. In three contests since his return, he's registered nine catches for 124 yards and no touchdowns.

Sunday's clash with the Los Angeles Chargers seemed like the perfect chance for a breakout game. Fellow wideout Jarvis Landry was out with injury, and Cleveland put up 42 points in a shootout with the high-powered Bolts. But OBJ finished with just two catches on three targets.

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski was asked about Beckham's lack of involvement in a game where the team ran 68 plays and totaled 531 yards of offense.

"As I've mentioned before, he's a dynamic football player," Stefanski told reporters. "He's very front-of-mind when we are game-planning and when we are calling plays. Sometimes the defense dictates if the ball goes elsewhere, and we are comfortable with that because we have good players elsewhere."

It doesn't sound like the Browns are looking to move him before the trade deadline. They have Super Bowl-level expectations, so trading a playmaker—even one who is underperforming—for future assets would come with risk.

Beckham is under contract through 2023 as part of a five-year, $90 million deal, and Cleveland can move him without leaving any dead cap space in the offseason, which would create $15 million in savings.

Barring a significant uptick in production, the Browns may see what offers they receive for him in the offseason. A change of scenery at that point could be good for everyone involved.

The Cleveland Browns scored 42 points, amassed 531 yards of offense, committed no turnovers and led for much of the second half on Sunday. And yet they couldn't come away with a road win against the Los Angeles Chargers ...

Odell Beckham Jr. hasn't returned to All-Pro form yet in 2021, but he'll be arriving to the stadium in a car worthy of a superstar.

Dreamworks Motorsports recently revealed a one-of-a-kind Lamborghini Urus the company customized for the Cleveland Browns receiver.

Dreamworks says it revamped the interior with blue Alcantara and leather, adding "2,000 fiber-optic stars and a hand-laid Lamborghini hexagon pattern for the shooting stars."

The company also added LED lighting to the interior, under the car and under the hood. In addition to the aesthetic improvements, Dreamworks also added a 900 horsepower performance package and Velos multipiece wheels with Vredestein tires.

Odell Beckham Jr. Says He's Had Torn Labrum for 10 Years, Doesn't Want Surgery

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. says he's been playing with a torn labrum in his left shoulder for the past decade.

Beckham told reporters Thursday that the injury goes back to when he was in college at LSU, but he doesn't want to undergo surgery.

The subject came up after NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported earlier Thursday that quarterback Baker Mayfield has been playing through a torn labrum in his left shoulder since Week 2.

"That s--t hurts. He's tough," Beckham said of Mayfield's situation.

Depending on the severity of the tear, surgery to repair it could require four to six months of recovery.

Trevor Lawrence, the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL draft, had surgery on his left shoulder in February. The Jacksonville Jaguars rookie went through training camp and preseason without issue. He has started the first four games of the regular season.

Beckham's performance hasn't shown that he's had problems with his shoulder. The 28-year-old averaged 16.6 yards per reception as a sophomore at LSU in 2012 and racked up 1,152 receiving yards the following season.

Beckham has missed time in the NFL for various injuries, though nothing related to his shoulder has kept him out for an extended period of time. The three-time Pro Bowler missed 12 games in 2017 with a fractured left ankle and the final nine games in 2020 after tearing his left ACL.

After sitting out the first two games this season as he recovered from ACL surgery, Beckham has started for the Browns each of the past two weeks. He has 104 yards on seven receptions.
