Jets OT Cameron Clark Taken to Hospital After Suffering Neck Injury at Practice

New York Jets offensive tackle Cameron Clark was transported to a local hospital after suffering a neck injury during practice Tuesday, according to the Associated Press' Dennis Waszak Jr.

Clark's father, Al, told ESPN's Rich Cimini his son is "fine" and will continue to be monitored overnight.

Waszak reported Clark was participating in a team drill when he "went down" and "didn't appear to be moving before trainers and medical personnel rushed to him."

First-year head coach Robert Saleh addressed the situation and told reporters he wouldn't get into specifics. He also said Clark had "some" movement in his extremities:

Saleh called off the remainder of practice after the injury.

The Jets selected Clark with the 129th pick in the 2020 draft. He didn't suit up for the team as a rookie, opening the year on injured reserve with a shoulder ailment.

In May, The Athletic's Connor Hughes wrote that the 23-year-old "isn’t considered a legitimate starting option" but still had the team optimistic about his potential.

Entering training camp, Clark figured to be fighting for a backup role behind starting left tackle Mekhi Becton.

Last season, the New York Jets ranked last in the NFL in total yards (279.9) and points (15.2) per game. So as you might expect, there weren't many players on their roster who were highly sought after in fantasy football throughout the year...

Zach Wilson, Jets Agree to Reported 4-Year, $35.1M Rookie Contract

Quarterback Zach Wilson, the No. 2 pick in the 2021 NFL draft, signed his rookie contract with the New York Jets on Thursday.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Wilson's deal is fully guaranteed and is projected to be worth $35.1 million over four years. The pact reportedly includes a $22.9 million signing bonus.

The Jets traded 2018 No. 3 overall pick Sam Darnold to the Carolina Panthers and made Wilson their new franchise quarterback this offseason.

In a draft class stacked with quality signal-calling prospects, Wilson established himself as the No. 2 option behind Clemson's Trevor Lawrence, who went first overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Wilson spent three years at BYU, but it wasn't until his junior season in 2020 that he put himself on the map as an NFL prospect.

In 12 games last season, the Draper, Utah, native completed 73.5 percent of his passes for 3,692 yards, 33 touchdowns and just three interceptions. He also rushed for 254 yards and 10 scores.

With Wilson leading the way, the Cougars went 11-1, marking their best record since they went 14-1 in 1996.

BYU beat UCF 49-23 in the Boca Raton Bowl, and its only loss of the 2020 campaign was a 22-17 defeat at the hands of Coastal Carolina.

After putting BYU back on the national radar, Wilson's next order of business will be to help make the Jets playoff contenders.

New York is coming off a 2-14 season in 2020, and it hasn't reached the playoffs since 2010. The Jets have finished with a winning record only once since their last postseason appearance as well.

Along with the selection of Wilson, the Jets made some major offseason changes.

Former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh was hired as the new head coach to replace Adam Gase, plus the Jets signed wide receiver Corey Davis and drafted guard Alijah Vera-Tucker and wideout Elijah Moore.

Wilson is expected to start for the Jets in Week 1, as the only other quarterbacks on the roster are the inexperienced James Morgan and Mike White.

Jets Rumors: Zach Wilson Rookie Contract Has 'Multiple Roadblocks' Ahead of Preseason

Tuesday marks the start of training camp for the New York Jets, but Zach Wilson reportedly isn't with the team yet because of issues with the language being included in his rookie contract.

Per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, there are "multiple roadblocks" between Wilson and the Jets, including cash-flow and offset language in the proposal.

According to Florio, the cash flow issue stems from the Jets' desire to "defer millions in signing bonus money earned by Wilson when he executes the contract to 2022."

The offset language relates to whether a guarantee is a "true guarantee," or could potentially force another party to pay the remaining money on Wilson's deal if he turns into a bust.

Per Spotrac, Wilson's four-year contract will be worth $35.2 million in total money with a $22.9 million signing bonus.

Wilson is the highest draft pick who has yet to sign his rookie contract. Trey Lance of the San Francisco 49ers (No. 3) is the only other unsigned first-round pick.

The Jets selected Wilson second overall after trading Sam Darnold to the Carolina Panthers in April. Wilson is in position to be the team's starting quarterback at the start of the regular season, though head coach Robert Saleh has said the job will have to be earned.

Wilson spent the past three years as BYU's starting quarterback. The 21-year-old threw for 3,692 yards and 33 touchdowns and completed 73.5 percent of his passes in 12 games during the 2020 season.

New York Jets assistant coach Greg Knapp died Thursday as a result of injuries suffered after being hit by a car July 17 while cycling in San Ramon, California.

He was 58.

Jeff Sperbeck, Knapp’s agent, announced Knapp died at 2:32 p.m. ET. He had been in critical condition.

"Greg is an amazing father and husband whose passion for life can be felt in all his interactions with people," the Knapp family said in a statement after the accident. "While many know him for his achievements as a coach, his impact as a father and husband are far greater. We are so fortunate to have him in our lives. We are sincerely thankful to all those who have continued to reach out and provide support—it has meant the world to us. We ask that you continue to pray for Greg and our family during this time."

According to Sperbeck's statement, Knapp never regained consciousness after being struck by the vehicle. The person who struck Knapp has not been identified publicly, but no drugs or alcohol are suspected at this time.

Knapp was a coach at the NFL level since 1997, working for the 49ers, Falcons, Raiders, Seahawks, Texans, Broncos and Jets. He was part of Denver's Super Bowl 50-winning coaching staff.

Knapp is survived by his mother, wife and three daughters.

New York Jets passing game specialist Greg Knapp is hospitalized in critical condition with "serious injuries" after being struck by a car while riding a bike over the weekend in California.

Jeff Sperbeck, Knapp's agent, confirmed the news Monday night to Mike Klis of 9News.

Knapp's family released a statement through the Jets on Tuesday asking for continued prayers:

Knapp joined New York's coaching staff in January under the team's new head coach, Robert Saleh.

The 58-year-old California native owns 35 years of coaching experience dating back to 1986, when he started working at Sacramento State, his alma mater, as a running backs coach while also trying to make an NFL roster as a quarterback.

He made stops with the Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Raiders and San Francisco 49ers as a player but never appeared in a regular-season game.

Knapp found more success on the sideline across stints with the Niners, Raiders, Atlanta Falcons, Seattle Seahawks, Houston Texans and Denver Broncos.

He spent the past three years as the Falcons' quarterbacks coach before joining the Jets. He quickly became a fan of New York's rookie quarterback Zach Wilson, the second overall pick in the 2021 draft.

"He is a fast study. He has done a good job of minimizing mistakes," Knapp told reporters in June. "You've got to expect mistakes from anyone starting the first time in any profession, it doesn't matter, and I have seen very minimal, same mistakes, twice. He learns quickly from his mistakes and that is impressive to see from a young guy."

Jets rookies reported for the start of training camp Tuesday.

Knapp was on the Broncos' staff when the team won Super Bowl 50 in 2016, and his Jets biography notes he's coached quarterbacks to 11 Pro Bowl appearances.

Jets QB Zach Wilson's 'Mental Horsepower Is off the Charts,' Says HC Robert Saleh

The New York Jets haven't named a starting quarterback for Week 1 versus the Carolina Panthers and old starter Sam Darnold, but rookie Zach Wilson has already impressed the coaching staff with his work ethic.

First-year head coach Robert Saleh provided high praise for the 2021 No. 2 overall pick, per Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated:

He's a relentless worker. And I mean this, there's guys who watch film, and then there's guys that watch film almost religiously, and he's one of those guys. He's constantly trying to find ways to absorb information and learn. He's wearing out the quarterback coach with film study. He's relentless in that regard. His mental horsepower is off the charts.

Wilson doesn't actually have much competition for the starting job, with only James Morgan and Mike White currently on the roster—two far less heralded players with zero NFL experience.

The BYU product made huge strides from his sophomore to junior year of college, throwing 33 passing touchdowns with just three interceptions in 2020 after finishing with 23 touchdowns and 12 picks in his first two years combined. He went from nearly off the radar of NFL scouts to one of the top players in the class.

His mentality could be a key reason for the improvements and a positive sign going forward.

Jets Rumors: Marcus Maye's Camp Tables Contract Talks Ahead of Tag Deadline

Two days before the deadline for teams to work out long-term extensions with franchise-tagged players, Marcus Maye and the New York Jets are reportedly at odds over a new deal.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Maye's camp pulled their most recent offer after the Jets didn't respond to the proposal.

Rapoport added negotiations between Maye and the Jets "went south" long before the franchise tag deadline when New York made him an offer "that had an APY about 20% below even the tag amount for 2021."

After the Jets used their one-year franchise tender on Maye to prevent him from becoming a free agent, the 28-year-old signed the deal for a guaranteed $10.6 million in 2021.

Based on Rapoport's reporting, the average annual value of New York's long-term offer to Maye would have been around $8.5 million per season.

Per Spotrac, an $8.5 million average salary would rank 17th among all safeties in 2021 between Rayshawn Jenkins of the Jacksonville Jaguars ($8.75 million) and Malcolm Jenkins of the New Orleans Saints ($8 million).

General manager Joe Douglas told reporters in May that signing Maye to a long-term deal is "still a priority" for the organization.

"We have had productive texts back and forth with his agent," Douglas added. "We're hoping to really dive into this now that the draft's over."

Maye finished last season ranked fourth among all safeties by Pro Football Focus with an overall grade of 82.9.

The Florida alum has spent his entire four-year career in New York since being selected No. 39 overall in the 2017 NFL draft. He recorded a career-high 88 combined tackles and two sacks in 2021.

Former Denver Broncos, Houston Texans and New York Jets wide receiver Demaryius Thomas announced his retirement Monday.

Thomas is signing a contract with the Broncos in order to retire with the franchise where he spent eight of his 10 NFL seasons.

Thomas will serve as an honorary captain for Denver's home opener against the Jets on September 26, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

A five-time Pro Bowler in Denver, Thomas recorded 724 receptions for 9,763 yards and 63 touchdowns during his career. His greatest run of success came as Peyton Manning's top target, with Thomas setting the single-season franchise record with 1,619 receiving yards in 2014.

Thomas holds three of the five best single-season receiving totals in franchise history and two of the three best single-season catch totals. Only Rod Smith has more career receiving yards in a Broncos uniform.

Thomas' seemingly Hall of Fame-bound career slowed down his final few seasons amid the Broncos' struggles at quarterback after Manning's retirement in 2016. He was traded to Houston during the 2018 season and suffered a torn Achilles that ended his time with the franchise after only seven games.

An 11-game stint with the Jets followed in 2019, but Thomas' impact was diminished. He recorded just 36 receptions for 433 yards and a touchdown. He then went unsigned during the 2020 season.

The New York Jets and former Washington Football Team offensive tackle Morgan Moses have agreed to a one-year deal, per Sam Fortier of the Washington Post.

Washington selected Moses with the 66th overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft. Moses started 97 of his 104 games for Washington over seven years before it released him on May 20.

Moses, a native Virginian who also played college ball for the University of Virginia, was a USA Today High School All-American and a third-team All-ACC player at UVA.

Per Ourlads, the Jets' starting offensive line is projected to be left tackle Mekhi Becton, left guard Alijah Vera-Tucker, center Connor McGovern, right guard Greg Van Roten and right tackle George Fant.

Becton, the No. 11 overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft, will certainly protect rookie quarterback Zach Wilson's blind side.

However, Moses could start at right tackle over Fant, who ranked 29th among 38 qualifiers at right tackle in Pro Football Focus' grading system, per Pro Football Focus' Ben Linsey. PFF gave Moses an 80.6 grade in 2020.

The Jets are set to report to training camp on Tuesday, July 27. They'll hit the road to play the Carolina Panthers to open their regular season on Sunday, Sept. 12.
