Broncos Reportedly Expected to Receive Multiple Bids Worth More Than $4.5B

The sale of the Denver Broncos will take another step forward next week, with the second round of bids due by Monday, and it appears a number of bidders are eager to become the next owner of the franchise.

The Broncos are expected to receive several bids worth more than $4.5 billion, according to Sports Business Journal's Ben Fischer, who adds that "things could move quickly" after that.

The news comes after ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio reported last month that the Broncos were expected to be sold for at least $5 billion. If that happens, it would break the NFL record for the sale of a franchise, which was set by David Tepper when he bought the Carolina Panthers for $2.275 billion in 2018.

The Broncos also have the potential to set the world record for a sports franchise purchase. Todd Boehly, who is a part-owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, was part of a group that purchased Premier League side Chelsea FC last month for $5.22 billion.

Boehly was initially interested in purchasing the Broncos, but it's unclear if he's still in the running for the franchise. According to Mike Klis of 9News.com, there are four groups remaining in the bidding process for the Broncos.

The four groups are headlined by former Walmart chairman Rob Walton, Philadelphia 76ers owner Josh Harris, CEO of Michigan-based mortgage lender United Wholesale Mortgage Mat Ishbia and Clearlake Capital Group founder Jose Feliciano.

The Broncos are valued at $3.75 billion, which ranks 10th in the NFL, according to Forbes. The Bowlen family purchased the franchise for $78 million in 1984, and it was put up for sale in February following years of legal disputes.

The Broncos have won three Super Bowls under the Bowlen family's ownership. However, the team hasn't made the playoffs since the 2015 season, meaning the new owner will be looked upon to help put the franchise back on the right path.

The Broncos already acquired Russell Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks this offseason, so they're certainly in a better position than they have been in recent years.

The sale of the Broncos is set to finish up before the 2022 season.

Walmart heir Rob Walton and Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils owner Josh Harris are among those who are expected to make second-round bids to buy the Denver Broncos.

Mike Klis of 9News provided the latest information Tuesday:

The sale of the Broncos is expected to net at least $5 billion, per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

Pat Bowlen bought a majority interest in the Broncos in 1984 for $70 million. He was the team's principal owner until 2019, when he died at the age of 75.

The Broncos have since been managed by the Pat Bowlen Trust, which announced the beginning of the sale process Feb. 1, with the intention of completing a deal before the 2022 season.

Walton and Harris are arguably the two key names on the list of prospective buyers.

Walton, 77, served as the chairman of Walmart from 1992 to 2015. Per Justin Birnbaum of Forbes, Walton has a $70.6 billion fortune. He is reportedly the 19th-richest person in the world.

Harris is the co-founder of Apollo Global Management, a global alternative investment management firm. He has been governor of the 76ers since 2011 and the Devils since 2013.

The Broncos are a team on the rise with Super-Bowl winning quarterback Russell Wilson, a nine-time Pro Bowler, now in Denver after an offseason trade from the Seattle Seahawks.

He joins an offense with some exciting talent, including running back Javonte Williams and wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, that complements last year's No. 3 scoring defense.

An Arapahoe County judge signed a motion to dismiss all charges against Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy following his arrest earlier this month.

Per Mike Klis of 9NEWS, the charges against Jeudy are officially dropped after the judge's decision on Tuesday.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero noted Jeudy could still face discipline from the NFL even though he won't face criminal charges.

"We've been closely monitoring all aspects of the matter, which remains under review of the personal conduct policy," an NFL spokesman told Pelissero.

The judge's decision came after ESPN's Adam Schefter reported earlier in the day that Arapahoe County District Attorney John Kellner moved to dismiss the second-degree criminal tampering with a domestic violence enhancer charge ahead of Tuesday's scheduled hearing.

Jeudy was arrested on May 12.

"After reviewing the evidence, I always believed that no crime had been committed and all charges would be dismissed," Jeudy's attorney, Harvey Steinberg, told Schefter.

Jeudy appeared in court on May 13 and was released from custody on a $1,500personal recognizance bond.

Speaking to reporters about the situation, Arapahoe County Sheriff Tyler Brown said the dispute between Jeudy and the woman "solely involved property, and there was no damage to property."

The woman is the mother of Jeudy's daughter, who was one-month-old at the time of the alleged dispute.

Per Sam Tabachnik of the Denver Post, the woman told an Arapahoe County judge on May 13 she never felt threatened by Jeudy and asked the judge to dismiss the case against him.

The woman said she called authorities to "monitor the situation" but Jeudy never made physical contact with her during the dispute that involved him withholdingher wallet, a child car seat and the child’s paperwork when she was trying to leave a residence.

Jeudy spent one night in jail because adomestic violence enhancer prevents a person from being released until they can appear before a judge under Colorado law.

The Broncos said in a statement following Jeudy's arrest they "are aware of the matter involving Jerry Jeudy and are in the process of gathering more information."

Denver selected Jeudy with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft. The 23-year-old has appeared in 26 games over the past two seasons.

Former Denver Broncos cornerback Brendan Langley was charged with simple assault after getting into a fight with a United Airlines employee at Newark Liberty International Airport, according to TMZ.

A video captured Langley and the employee engaged in a physical altercation. He throws multiple punches at the employee and knocks him down at one point.

Per TMZ, local authorities declined to arrest the United employee, though Langley alleged the employee hit him first.

The Daily Mail's Jennifer Smith and Jack Newman shared a statement from United: "United Airlines does not tolerate violence of any kind at our airports or on board our planes and we are working with local authorities to further investigate this matter."

Smith and Newman reported the situation may have started when Langley attempted to use a wheelchair to transport his luggage rather than a designated cart.

The Broncos selected Langley in the third round of the 2017 NFL draft. He made 16 appearances, largely as a return specialist.

Denver waived the 27-year-old in August 2019, and he returned to the professional game when he signed with the CFL's Calgary Stampeders in 2022.

Anyone looking to live in the former home of an NFL star while enjoying a cigar lounge and movie theater is in luck.

Buffalo Bills pass-rusher Von Miller is selling his Colorado home with a listing price of $4.125 million. He purchased it for $925,000 in 2012.

The 17,000-square foot home features nine bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, a cigar lounge, a movie theater and a basketball court:

Miller became an NFL legend in Colorado while playing for the Denver Broncos. They selected him with the No. 2 overall pick of the 2011 NFL draft, and he played there until they traded him last season to the Los Angeles Rams, with whom he won Super Bowl LVI.

He was an eight-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro selection with the Broncos and also won his first Super Bowl title. The Texas A&M product was the 2011 Defensive Rookie of the Year and the Super Bowl 50 MVP and will go down as one of the great players in Denver history.

But after signing with the Bills this offseason, he decided it is time to sell his home in the state where he became an NFL star.

The Arapahoe County district attorney intends to charge Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, despite the victim in his case saying he was not a threat to her.

The victim in Jeudy's case addressed the situation during a court appearance on Friday morning.

Per ESPN's Jeff Legwold, Jeudy was arrested Thursday on a misdemeanor charge of second-degree criminal tampering with a domestic violence enhancer.

According to Legwold, Arapahoe County Sheriff Tyler Brown said the dispute between Jeudy and the mother of his one-month old daughter "solely involved property" and there was no physical contact made between the two.

Brown noted "there was no damage to the property" in the dispute.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Harvey Steinberg, Jeudy's lawyer, said his client shouldn't have been arrested nor held in custody overnight.

"Brown said that per Colorado law, the domestic violence enhancer was added to the charge because of the relationship between Jeudy and the woman," Legwold wrote. "Also per Colorado law, the domestic violence enhancer prevents release at least until an appearance before a judge."

Brown said Jeudy prevented the woman from retrieving several items, including her wallet, medical information for the child and a car seat.

Per the police report submitted to the court (h/t Legwold), the woman told an Arapahoe County sheriff's deputy that she wanted to go to Virginia but couldn't leave without collecting those items from Jeudy's car.

The Broncos issued a statement in the aftermath of Jeudy's arrest: "We are aware of the matter involving Jerry Jeudy and are in the process of gathering more information."

Jeudy is entering his third season with the Broncos. The 23-year-old was selected with the No. 15 overall pick by the organization in 2020. He has appeared in 26 games over the past two seasons.

Peyton Manning has played a significant role in Russell Wilson's acclimation to life in Denver, so it's only right that the quarterbacks teamed up to star in a video for the Broncos' 2022 schedule release.

In the video, Manning is depicted as an intern for the Broncos and, since it's his last day on the job, he's teaching Wilson, the new intern, about how things run in the office.

Wilson partakes in a number of tasks, from sorting mail to answering the phones and cooking up some meals for his new teammates. However, he forgets the most important task of the day: printing out the 2022 schedule.

Luckily for Wilson, John Elway comes flying in on a scooter with the schedule.

The Broncos are set to open the 2022 season with a Week 1 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field. It will mark Wilson's return to Seattle after the nine-time Pro Bowler spent the first 10 years of his career there. Denver will then host the Houston Texans in Week 2 at Empower Field and the San Francisco 49ers in Week 3 before heading out on the road again.

With the addition of Wilson this offseason, the Broncos have high expectations. And with the 15th-toughest schedule, per The Red Zone, they have a decent path toward meeting them.

Actor, comedian and founder of the Allen Media Group, Byron Allen, is reportedly leading an ownership group that is still in the running to buy the Denver Broncos, according to Mike Klis of 9News.com.

If that bid is successful—and if Allen is the controlling partner of the investment group—he would be the NFL's first Black controlling owner.

The Broncos, who already held a first round of bidding and are expecting to be sold for somewhere in the neighborhood of $5 billion, have a handful of potential ownership groups still in the running.

One is Allen and a "handful of investors with deep pockets to help in his bid," per Klis. The others include:

  • A group led by Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils majority owner Josh Harris, with Magic Johnson serving as a minority owner.
  • A group led by former Walmart chairman Rob Walton.
  • Todd Boehly, who holds minority stakes in the Los Angeles Dodgers and Lakers and is in the process of purchasing Premier League side Chelsea for $4.2 billion.

Per Klis, there are also three other unidentified groups still reportedly in the mix.

Allen, 61, started his career as a stand-up comedian and appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson as an 18-year-old. He also appeared on the shows Real People and Kickin' It with Byron Allen.

He founded Entertainment Studios in 1993, which owns several cable news channels, including The Weather Channel, and formed Allen Media Broadcasting in 2019.

The Broncos were previously owned by Pat Bowlen (1984-2013) and the Pat Bowlen Trust after he gave up control of the team due to suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Bowlen died in 2019.

Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy was arrested by Arapahoe County (CO) law authorities Thursday.

Jeudy was charged with second-degree criminal tampering (with a domestic violence enhancer) :

Sheriff Tyler Brown said during a press conference Thursday there was no physical contact made by Jeudy:

According to Brown, Jeudy was cooperative when he was arrested.

Benjamin Allbright of KOA Colorado reports the Broncos are aware of the situation but will not comment further at this time.

According to Troy Renck and Blair Miller of Denver7, a person is charged with criminal tampering if they "tamper with property of another with intent to cause injury, inconvenience, or annoyance to that person or to another, or if they knowingly makes an unauthorized connection with property of a utility." If convicted, Jeudy faces a harsher penalty with the domestic violence enhancer.

Jeudy also faces potential discipline from the NFL under the league's personal conduct policy, which could lead to a suspension.

Court records also show that Jeudy was found guilty of a traffic infraction last July for speeding 10-19 miles per hour over a 75 mph speed limit in Arapahoe County.

A first-round pick by the Broncos in 2020, Jeudy has been a disappointment through two seasons. He has 90 catches for 1,323 yards and three touchdowns in his career.

John Elway on Russell Wilson Trade to Broncos: 'He Was The Piece We Needed'

The Denver Broncos are expecting to make a major jump in the 2022 season after the offseason acquisition of star quarterback Russell Wilson.

Broncos legend and president of football operations John Elway told Mike Klis of 9News that he believes Wilson gives the team exactly what it was missing to be a playoff contender.

"He was the piece we needed," Elway said. "We had a good football team around him and I think George [Paton] did a tremendous job of putting that deal together and getting him here. It's great to see the fan base energized again."

The Broncos landed Wilson in a blockbuster trade with the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for two first-round picks, two second-round picks, a fifth-round pick, quarterback Drew Lock, defensive lineman Shelby Harris and tight end Noah Fant.

A nine-time Pro Bowl selection, Wilson is regarded as one of the top signal-callers in the league. He had a bit of a down year in 2021 after missing time with a broken finger. In 14 games, he threw for a career-low 3,113 passing yards with 25 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Denver went 7-10 last season and missed the playoffs for the sixth consecutive season. Elway said he believes Wilson gives the Broncos a chance at competing for a division title, provided that the team is able to stay healthy throughout the year.

"We've got a chance to compete in the AFC West, which obviously is going to be tough. But again like anything we've got to stay healthy," Elway said. "We've had a tough time doing that the last several years. If we can stay healthy, Russ has been there, he's won Super Bowls, he knows what it takes and the leadership he's provided has been tremendous."

Wilson's presence has already had an impact on Denver, creating more interest in the team. The NFL announced that the Broncos will be a part of the Christmas Day tripleheader in a matchup against the defending-champion Los Angeles Rams.
