Cam Reddish Denies Knicks Trade Rumors, Says He Hasn't Requested Deal out of NY

The New York Knicks may eventually trade Cam Reddish, but it is not because he has asked for such a move.

"I haven't requested any trades," he said, per Peter Botte of the New York Post. "I have not. Y'all seem to know more than me, for real. I don't know what y'all talking about, but I haven't requested no trade, nothing like that."

The comments come after Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News reported the Knicks were working with Reddish's representatives to find a trade after he was taken out of the rotation.

Reddish and Derrick Rose were not in the rotation during New York's win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday and Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday.

Head coach Tom Thibodeau seemingly prefers Quentin Grimes in the backcourt, and the second-year playmaker responded with 23 points, four rebounds, two blocks and two assists during the win over Atlanta.

"I'm not sure [why]," Reddish said when asked to discuss being out of the rotation. "I'm not the one to ask. I'm not really sure to be honest with you. I was doing what I could to the best of my ability on both sides of the floor. I'm gonna say it again, all of the other stuff is out of my control.

"My role, all that stuff, isn't necessarily up to me. I'm just coming in and doing what I'm told to do. … I'll roll with what Coach say, and that's that."

New York acquired Reddish from the Hawks in a trade during the 2021-22 campaign. He has appeared in 35 total games for the team with averages of 7.4 points, 1.5 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game.

The Duke product has never lived up to the expectations that came with being the No. 10 overall pick of the 2019 NBA draft, but he is still just 23 years old and could benefit from a change of scenery given the way his time with the Knicks has unfolded.

He is set for restricted free agency after this season, so that change of scenery may come relatively soon even if it isn't because of a trade.

Knicks Fans Rip Trae Young's Shooting Woes vs. NY as Hawks Lose Sans Dejounte Murray

Wednesday evening couldn't have gone much worse for Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks, who fell 113-89 to the host New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

Dejounte Murray departed after four minutes with a left ankle sprain and did not return. Atlanta looked lost without him on both ends and notably made just 6-of-36 three-pointers,

Bogdan Bogdanovic missed all 10 of his attempts from beyond the arc. Young made 9-of-20 field goals but missed all four of his three-pointers. That marked the first time all season he did not hit at least one three-pointer in a game.

On a night where Young wore "King of Broadway" sneakers during pregame warmups, the Hawks star was anything but en route to a minus-26 performance. He sat the entire fourth quarter with the game well out of hand.

Meanwhile, the Knicks were led by Julius Randle and his 34 points, 17 rebounds and five assists. Quentin Grimes added 23 points, including 5-of-7 three-pointers.

This has not been a good year for Young, who is posting career-worst marks from the field and the three-point line. His three-point percentage has dipped below 30 percent.

The talented superstar has seen much better days, especially at the Garden, where he led the Hawks to a first-round playoff victory over New York in 2021 and simultaneously became one of the Knicks fanbase's most hated villains.

But the Knicks crushed the Hawks on this day, and Twitter criticized Young's performance.

Young and the 13-12 Hawks have now lost five of their last seven games. They'll stay in New York to take on the Brooklyn Nets Friday evening.

Knicks Trade Rumors: Cam Reddish's Reps Working with NYK to Find Deal Before Deadline

Cam Reddish's time with the New York Knicks may be coming to an end.

Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News reported the Knicks are working with Reddish's representatives to find a potential destination in a trade. It has reached this point because the Duke product is no longer a part of the team's rotation.

"It's not just on Cam, it's on our team," head coach Tom Thibodeau said. "What gives our team the best chance? And so I'd say those are coaching decisions; to decide to go from a 10-man rotation to nine because you feel like it [gives] the team the best chance to succeed. That's why you do it. You always have to put the team first. So there's a lot of sacrifices that need to be made by a team. But we're always going to put what we feel is best for the team first."

There was a time when Reddish seemed well on his way to becoming an impact player in the NBA.

The Atlanta Hawks selected him with the No. 10 overall pick of the 2019 NBA draft, and he averaged 10.7 points per game across his first two seasons.

However, Atlanta traded him to the Knicks during the 2021-22 campaign. The Knicks sent Kevin Knox II and a 2022 first-round pick for Reddish, Solomon Hill and a 2025 second-round pick.

In hindsight, the Knicks likely wouldn't trade a first-round pick for someone who is no longer in their rotation, but they might be able recoup some value by sending the 23-year-old elsewhere.

Reddish has appeared in 20 games this season with eight starts and is averaging 8.4 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.0 assists. He is shooting only 30.4 percent from three-point range, which is a concern if teams hoped he could take advantage of space his teammates create and hit from the outside.

Perhaps a change of scenery will help Reddish rediscover the form that helped him become a first-round pick, because he is a nonfactor at this point for the Knicks.

Knicks Rumors: Rose, Quickley, Reddish, Fournier Most Frequently Named in Trade Calls

Dec 7, 2022
Immanuel Quickley
Immanuel Quickley

If the New York Knicks are unable to get anything done before the Feb. 9 NBA trade deadline, it won't be due to a lack of trying.

The Athletic's Fred Katz reported Wednesday that the quartet of Derrick Rose, Evan Fournier, Immanuel Quickley and Cam Reddish have been "the most common players they have discussed with other teams."

Katz added there was outside interest in Fournier ahead of the 2022 deadline and this offseason and that the Knicks "have communicated that they are willing to attach Quickley or Reddish to Fournier to make a trade work."

Per Katz, New York has also talked about scenarios in which Quickley was the sole asset, with the hope the team could land a first-round draft pick.

Rose and Reddish might represent filler in any deal. Katz wrote that "there is not much demand for Rose" and that Reddish's market is "more sparse" compared to that of Quickley.

It seems inevitable that the Knicks will do something. Whether that something significantly improves the team is another matter.

Jettisoning Rose and/or Quickley would clear out the logjam at point a bit. Rose is on an expiring deal—he has a $15.6 million team option for 2023-24—so trading him for whatever they can get is better than letting him walk as a free agent.

It's a similar situation with Reddish, who's eligible to become a restricted free agent in 2023. The 23-year-old has seen his role diminish of late. He logged just nine minutes and 13 seconds in a 121-100 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday and was a healthy scratch when New York earned a 92-81 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday.

The odds of the Knicks re-signing Reddish or extending an $8.1 million qualifying offer appear to be slim.

With Fournier, the goal would be getting off the $18.9 million he's owed next season. His four-year, $73 million deal hasn't been a total millstone for the Knicks, but it's a contract they'd probably like to have back.

The trouble for the front office is that adding up Quickley, Rose, Fournier and Reddish plus draft picks probably wouldn't net a star who raises the team's ceiling.

The Ringer's Bill Simmons floated a scenario in which the Knicks send Obi Toppin, expiring contracts and a pick to the Chicago Bulls for Zach LaVine.

LaVine is averaging 22.0 points and 4.2 assists while shooting 42.2 percent from the field and 35.1 percent from beyond the arc. Those numbers are all down from his back-to-back All-Star campaigns after he underwent offseason knee surgery.

The five-year, $215.2 million extension LaVine signed with the Bulls isn't looking good right now and is the kind of long-term risk New York should avoid.

Maybe a path toward a top-level star will open up next summer. For now, team president Leon Rose might be reduced to finding incremental gains around the margins.

Knicks Rumors: Derrick Rose Trade Interests Mavericks After Kemba Walker Contract

The Dallas Mavericks "have interest" in trading for New York Knicks guard Derrick Rose, according to Ric Bucher of Fox Sports.

Bucher noted that Rose and four first-round draft picks are among the trade assets the 10-13 Knicks can "dangle" on the trade market.

The Mavericks are looking for guard depth and signed former Knicks veteran Kemba Walker last week, although general manager Nico Harrison admitted Thursday on Dallas radio station The Ticket (h/t CBS Sports) that Walker's knee is "not good."

Walker is yet to appear in a game for Dallas and hasn't played since February.

Rose has been productive in recent seasons, averaging 12.0 points and 4.0 assists per game for New York last year while shooting 40.2 percent from three-point range.

The 34-year-old has seen his numbers decline this season, however, averaging just 6.4 points and 2.0 assists in 21 appearances, all off the bench. Free-agent addition Jalen Brunson has emerged as a go-to option in the backcourt, leaving Rose with just 13.6 minutes per game after he averaged 24.5 minutes in 2021-22.

It makes Rose expendable for the Knicks, but the Mavericks could use guard depth after losing Brunson in the offseason.

Luka Dončić is one of the best offensive players in the NBA, but he has limited help since just three other Mavericks average double-figure scoring. Rose could give the team another backcourt option alongside Tim Hardaway Jr. and Spencer Dinwiddie.

With 15 years of NBA experience and 51 career playoff games, he could help provide what Dallas needs to compete with the top teams in the Western Conference.

Knicks' Jalen Brunson Defends Tom Thibodeau After Blowout Loss to Luka Doncic, Mavs

The New York Knicks fell to the Dallas Mavericks 121-100 on Saturday at Madison Square Garden to drop to 10-13 on the season, and while head coach Tom Thibodeau has been receiving plenty of criticism, Jalen Brunson was quick to defend him.

"I know he's going to get a lot of the blame. It's on us. We're the players out there battling. His job is to put us in positions, which he's done," Brunson said while meeting with the media after the loss, per SNY.

After trailing by 15 points in the second quarter, the Mavericks bounced back with a brilliant second-half performance to hand the Knicks their fourth straight loss at home, which has seemingly become a house of horrors for Thibodeau's squad.

The Knicks were outscored by the Mavs 41-15 in the third quarter. At one point, Dallas went on a 29-5 run, so Thibodeau called multiple timeouts to try and slow their progress, but it didn't work as New York entered the fourth quarter down by 19 points.

With the game seemingly over early in the fourth quarter, Thibodeau opted to empty his bench to give his starters some rest before Sunday's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Brunson finished with just 13 points, two rebounds and three assists, while R.J. Barrett finished with 13 points, six rebounds, three assists and one steal. Additionally, Julius Randle finished the game with 24 points—with only three points coming after halftime—five rebounds and three assists.

It was a disappointing offensive performance from the Knicks, conceding 19 turnovers and grabbing just seven offensive rebounds. For comparison, the Mavericks had double the amount of offensive rebounds as the Knicks failed to control the glass.

The Knicks are now 4-6 in their last 10 games and are a disappointing 4-7 at home this season. If they're going to turn things around, it's going to have to start with getting better at home.

Knicks Destroyed by Twitter for 'Embarrassing' Collapse in Loss vs. Luka Doncic, Mavs

The Dallas Mavericks embarrassed the New York Knicks 121-100 on Saturday in Madison Square Garden.

New York led 32-20 after the first quarter and once held a 15-point advantage, but the Mavs destroyed the Knicks from that moment forward. They outscored New York 41-15 in the third quarter and led by as many as 32 points.

Luka Doncic guided the Mavs with 30 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Tim Hardaway Jr. hit eight of the Mavs' 24 three-pointers en route to 28 points. Both players outscored the Knicks by themselves in the third quarter.

Spencer Dinwiddie fell just short of a triple-double with 17 points, nine assists and nine rebounds. Their production was more than enough on an afternoon where the Mavs played without Christian Wood (illness).

Julius Randle led the Knicks with 24 points, while Immanuel Quickley scored 23 off the bench. Jalen Brunson, who played against his old team for the first time since leaving the Mavs in free agency last offseason, had 13 points and three assists.

The Knicks played an eerily similar game earlier this season in a 112-99 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Nov. 2.

New York led 32-21 after the first quarter but fell apart in the third, where the Hawks outscored the Knicks 32-10. Atlanta led by as many as 19 before the 13-point win.

This game was even worse, though, and now the Knicks have fallen to 10-13, including 4-7 at home. They entered last offseason with the intent to compete this year, but New York, which began the day in 11th place within the Eastern Conference, doesn't look like it'll even make the playoffs at this juncture thanks largely to a porous defense.

NBA and Knicks Twitter called out the team's bewildering effort, with some pointing the finger at head coach Tom Thibodeau and the team's offensive game plan alongside the sheer disappointment of the loss and the team's season thus far.

The New York Knicks needed a win in a major way, and Julius Randle delivered.

Randle led New York to a commanding 140-110 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday at Little Caesars Arena. The Knicks improved to 10-11 on the season and snapped a two-game losing streak and stretch that saw them lose four of their previous five.

New York pulled away with a dominant third quarter that saw it outscore the Pistons 38-21, removing any doubt about the outcome before the stretch run.

The University of Kentucky product led the way with 36 points, seven rebounds and five assists behind 14-of-24 shooting from the field and 6-of-13 shooting from three-point range. His dominant performance drew plenty of praise from social media:

https://twitter.com/BullsandKnicks/status/1597757388576423936
https://twitter.com/AndrewJClaudio_/status/1597763189185605632
https://twitter.com/seth_rosenthal/status/1597757121483124738

Randle put up a solid stat line of 14 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists in the Knicks' loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday, but he wasn't particularly aggressive when seeking out his shot and attempted just nine field goals in that game.

That made Tuesday's showing more notable, as he attacked the basket when given opportunities and didn't hesitate to unleash from deep in the early going. His willingness to shoulder more of the scoring responsibility also helped open looks for his teammates, as it wasn't a one-man show in the win over Detroit.

RJ Barrett, Jalen Brunson and Quentin Grimes each scored 16 points, Immanuel Quickley provided a spark off the bench with 15 points, and Mitchell Robinson helped control the boards with a game-high 13 rebounds.

Randle and the Knicks will look to keep the momentum rolling Wednesday when they host the Milwaukee Bucks.
