Atletico Madrid on Thursday announced they had secured a deal for Real Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente, and the move will become official once he passes a medical examination.

The Rojiblancos reported the news via their official website, adding he will sign a five-year contract.

According to La Liga writer David Cartlidge, the fee sits between €35 million and €40 million:

He also explained Llorente is being bought to replace star midfielder Rodri:

According to Sky Sports News, Rodri has told Atletico he wishes to leave. Fabrizio Romano reported on Instagram Manchester City have confirmed they will pay the midfielder's €70 million buyout clause.

Llorente profiles as a capable replacement who brings a more limited skill set to the table but should arguably be a better fit for Diego Simeone's system.

The 24-year-old is a defensive specialist with excellent passing range and has long been regarded as one of the brightest prospects to emerge from Real's academy in recent years. He impressed on loan at Deportivo Alaves during the 2016-17 season, but he was forced to wait for his opportunity in the capital.

His chance finally came last season following an injury to Casemiro, and Llorente made the most of it. He was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise forgettable campaign for Los Blancos and came close to passing Casemiro in the pecking order, only for injury to intervene, per AS' Robbie Dunne:

He only featured in three more La Liga matches after he returned from injury because manager Zinedine Zidane put his full faith in Casemiro.

Sports writer Simon Harrison loves Llorente's fit under Simeone, who prioritises defensive solidity and physicality over technical brilliance:

His health will be key, but if the medical tests don't reveal any problems, there's no reason why Llorente can't come in and replace Rodri immediately. He's a proven performer at La Liga level who impressed when he finally got his opportunity, and he appears ready to blossom as a regular starter for the Rojiblancos.

Benfica Deny Rumour of Joao Felix's 'Imminent' Transfer to Atletico Madrid

Benfica have denied reports that Joao Felix is on the verge of a €120 million (£107 million) move to Atletico Madrid

Both Marca and the Telegraph's J

Felix enjoyed a breakout season in 2018-19 as he netted 15 goals and provided seven assists in 26 league appearances.

He made an impact in Benfica's UEFA Europa League campaign as they reached the quarter-finals:

And he earned a first senior call-up to the Portugal national team, playing a role as they won the inaugural UEFA Nations League earlier this month.

Per Manu Sainz of AS, Real Madrid previously had a bid for Felix rejected as Los Blancos were not offering €120 million up front, but in a deal that included €40 million (£36 million) in add-ons.

Sainz also reported interest from Juventus and Barcelona.

Atleti would not usually be able to compete financially with the likes of Real, Juve, Barca and the two Manchester clubs.

BR Video

But they look set to receive €120 million for Antoine Griezmann, who has announced he will depart the club this summer.

As such, reports they were on the verge of paying a club record fee to sign Felix seemed, on the face of it, credible.

Benfica's statement makes it clear, though, that a move is not imminent for their young star forward.

Per BeIN, Benfica also denied in their statement that agent Jorge Mendes stands to make 30 percent from the Felix sale:

"More serious, and that which deserves our most vehement repudiation and denial, is the fake news that refers to negotiations that involve commissions of 30 per cent and which, unfortunately, was echoed in Portugal by the newspaper A Bola, with intentions and goals that we do not understand. We repeat: this information is totally false, absurd and has clear intentions for the reputation and dignity of Benfica."

Antoine Griezmann Says 'I Don't Know If I'll Remain in Spain' Amid PSG Rumours

Antoine Griezmann has asked for patience as he decides on his future and said he may not stay in Spain when he leaves Atletico Madrid this summer.

The 28-year-old announced almost a month ago that he will leave Atleti after five years at the club:

It was widely reported, including by BBC Sport, he would go to Barcelona for €120 million (£107 million) after being heavily linked with the Catalans for some time.

But the move has yet to go through, and he is now being linked with a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain amid concerns over Kylian Mbappe and Neymar's futures at the French club, per Sacha Pisani of Goal.

Speaking after France beat Andorra 4-0 in UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying on Tuesday, Griezmann said he may move away from Spain when he departs Atleti, per Pisani:

"There's a need for patience, as it's still soon. I want my future to be decided more than anyone, but there's a need to wait. I don't know if I'll remain in Spain. Maybe in two weeks we'll know something. I just want to play football and have fun."

Griezmann was born in Macon, France, and began his youth career at his hometown club.

But he then joined Real Sociedad's youth ranks in 2005 and has been in Spain ever since.

After being promoted to La Real's senior team in 2009, he left the San Sebastian outfit in 2014 to join Atleti in a €30 million transfer.

Since moving to the Spanish capital, Griezmann has been Atleti's most important attacking player, and he has established himself as one of the world's best forwards:

There is little doubt he could be a major asset to just about any club in Europe, but the announcement of where he will move to is taking longer than expected.

Barcelona still remain the obvious choice, but Griezmann's hint that he may not stay in Spain brings PSG into the race.

Atletico Madrid's Thomas Partey Would 'Like to Move to England,' Says Father

Arsenal and Manchester United have both been given a boost in their pursuit of reported target Thomas Partey after the Atletico Madrid player's father said his son would "like to move to England."

Partey's agent, Daniel Jimenez, revealed last month that the midfielder's release clause is €50 million (£44 million), per the Mirror's Alex Milne.

Now his father, Hon Adjiingo, has hinted the 25-year-old would be open to a move away from Atleti, and England is an attractive destination, per Enigye FM (h/t Ghana Web, via Hassan Rashed of the Mirror): "I personally told him to move on, if he is not wanted at where he is right now. Because he might be wanted at somewhere else and so he will like to move to England if he gets the chance."

Partey joined Atleti as a youth player in 2012 and, after loan spells at Mallorca and Almeria, debuted in the senior team in November 2015.

In 2017-18, he established himself as a key part of Diego Simeone's first team as he played in 33 of Atleti's La Liga games, 28 as a starter, while also playing a role in their UEFA Europa League triumph.

His game time dropped slightly in 2018-19 as only 22 of his 32 league appearances were as a starter, but he made six starts in the UEFA Champions League and enjoyed another impressively consistent campaign:

It is little surprise he is being linked with some top European clubs, as he boasts a fine blend of attacking and defensive attributes that make him a fine central midfielder.

Given United are losing Ander Herrera this summer and Nemanja Matic is no longer the player he was, Partey could be a fine addition to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad, and they could certainly afford to meet his release fee.

Arsenal are also in need of midfield reinforcements following the departure of Aaron Ramsey to Juventus on a free transfer.

A Ghana international, Partey will have the chance to impress on the international stage this summer at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars kick off their Group F campaign against Benin on June 25 before clashes with Cameroon (June 29) and Guinea-Bissau (July 2).

Antoine Griezmann Talks Club Future After France Beat Bolivia

Antoine Griezmann gave little away when asked about his club future following France's 2-0 friendly win against Bolivia on Sunday in Nantes.

The forward announced last month he will leave Atletico Madrid this summer after five seasons with the club:

According to BBC Sport, Barcelona will pay the 120 million (£106 million) buyout clause for him, while Miquel Delaney of The Independent recently reported Manchester United are interested in him.

However, when asked about his future after turning out for Les Bleus, Griezmann shed little light on where he expects to end up, per Dejan Kalinic of Goal:

"I don't know. That's a good question. Let's see. Everything in its time."

The 28-year-old was the key man for France on Sunday.

He produced a brilliant assist for Thomas Lemar's opener in the fifth minute, and he then scored himself just before half-time.

It was a timely reminder from Griezmann of just how good a player he is.

Bolivia are not the toughest opposition in the world, and it was only a friendly, but Griezmann's key contributions showed he is still sharp at the end of a long season.

Barcelona still looks like Griezmann's most likely destination. He has been linked to the Catalan giants for some time, and it is a club that would meet his ambitions.

Griezmann has won a UEFA Europa League title while at Atleti, but it seems clear he wants a move that will give him the chance to win league titles, as well as challenge for the UEFA Champions League.

He would have that opportunity at Barca, who have won four of the last five La Liga titles.

United, on the other hand, have little chance of challenging for the Premier League title next term, and they cannot even offer Griezmann Champions League football after a sixth-placed finish in 2018-19.

Diego Simeone Says He's Committed to Atletico Madrid Ahead of Summer Departures

Diego Simeone has assured Atletico Madrid he remains "identified and committed" to the club despite fears of a number of high-profile departures this summer.

Los Rojiblancos are set to lose big names in Antoine Griezmann, Lucas Hernandez, Diego Godin and Filipe Luis at least (the latter two on free transfers). However, Simeone told reporters after Tuesday's 2-1 friendly loss to Beitar Jerusalem that he would not be heading for the exit:

"I like my job. I feel very identified and committed to the club.

"I know that year on year it's always more difficult, and that makes us see our real selves and generate enthusiasm.

"Next season there will be football players who will arrive with great enthusiasm and hopefully adapt to the responsibility that means being at Atletico Madrid."

Atleti drew 2-2 at Levante on Saturday in their last La Liga fixture of the season. Prior to that, Simeone addressed the topic of turnover and sounded confident in his club's ability to replace key players who choose to leave his side, via Eleven Sports:

Full-back Juanfran, 34, will join Godin and Filipe, both 33, as a free transfer when his contract expires next month. Griezmann has confirmed he'll leave Los Rojiblancos, while Godin is expected to join Inter and fellow defender Hernandez will join Bayern Munich in an €80 million (£70.3 million) deal.

Football writer Euan McTear highlighted the great deal Inter are getting in Godin's case (should the transfer materialise):

Goal's Ryan Benson mentioned the likes of Thomas Partey, Rodri, Saul Niguez, Santiago Arias and Vitolo who could also move away from Atleti this summer.

There may be a fear at the Wanda Metropolitano that some sales could lead to others becoming disillusioned with the team's prospects and following their team-mates out of the exit door.

At the very least, it looks as though Griezmann's expected sale will generate major funds for the summer overhaul, per sportswriter David Cartlidge:

Simeone led Atletico to a La Liga title in 2014, ending the club's 18-year wait for a top-tier trophy. The club finished second this season ahead of rivals Real Madrid, making this the first time since 1974 that Atleti have clinched top-two finishes in successive seasons.

As valued as some of the stars passing through Atleti might be, journalist Sid Lowe recently appeared on Eleven Sports and said fans at the club see Simeone as the jewel in their crown:

The high-profile departures that will soon hit the squad promise to be difficult to recover from, although Simeone's commitment to the role remains unwavering as he prepares for the task.

Thomas Partey Cools Atletico Exit Talk Amid Manchester United, Arsenal Rumours

Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey has distanced himself from a summer transfer after being linked to Manchester United and Arsenal

Partey joined Atleti in 2012 and has made a successful break into their first team in recent seasons. The 25-year-old has been linked with moves to Premier League clubs this summer, but he told BBC Sport's Rahman Osman he's happy to stay in Madrid if he plays regularly:

"It's hard for me to talk about transfers because the next minute it will be like 'Thomas is trying to leave,' but for me playing football is what makes me happy.

"I keep saying I am lucky to be at this level now because I know people who play harder and work harder than me but are nowhere close to being here.

"I don't know what the future holds for me but as long as I play and they are happy with me here then there is no need flirting with others."

Partey doesn't want to slip outside manager Diego Simeone's starting plans and described it as "the greatest torture" for a footballer to not be a regular in the side.

The Ghana international made 30 starts for Atletico in all competitions this season—10 fewer than he did the previous campaign—but was again influential as Atleti finished second in La Liga.

Statman Dave hailed his balanced contribution to Simeone's side:

One particular issue for any potential buyers is Partey has developed a strong bond with the team that took a chance on him when he was still at boyhood club Odometah.

He described the Madrid club as a "second home" and added:

"Don't get me wrong I have had to earn it, but there are a lot people on the streets of Accra (Ghana's capital) working hard every day hoping for a club to take a chance on them like they did here for me so I will never be ungrateful and force a move just because of money or fame.

"I know how our work is, today you are here and tomorrow you are gone, but I feel naturally when it's time to move I wouldn't have to force it because it will be so clear that my time here is up."

There's little urgency for Los Rojiblancos to sell right now considering Partey has a contract until 2023. That said, his comments regarding playing time may hint he's wary of the competition provided by players like Saul Niguez, Koke and rising star Rodri.

The Ghanaian's agent, Jose Daniel Jimenez Pozanco, has taken a different approach to speculation. He recently told FCInterNews (h/t Football Italia) about Partey's €50 million (£43.9 million) release clause and likened the player to Manchester United midfield star Paul Pogba when discussing a transfer:

"There is no reason why he won't move to Italy. Inter, like Atleti are a top team. He has a €50 million release clause and in football anything is possible, just look at Diego Godin leaving to join Inter and Antoine Griezmann possibly on his way to Barcelona.

"He is like Pogba, he's a box-to-box player, but he is better than the Frenchman, as he does more defensive work. I feel that because he is African, he gets much less media coverage than the Manchester United player."

Broadcaster Deji Faremi highlighted Partey's price as a potentially great deal:

That clause will remain in place as long as Partey doesn't sign a new deal in Spain's capital and could pose a problem for Atletico in future, though he appears content for the time being.

United may struggle to attract top talent after failing to qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League, while Arsenal must beat Chelsea in the UEFA Europa League final on May 29 to clinch a place.

Diego Simeone Praises Antoine Griezmann Ahead of Imminent Atletico Madrid Exit

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has praised the club's outgoing forward Antoine Griezmann.

The France international confirmed this week this season would be his last at Atletico, having spent five years with the club after moving from Real Sociedad. The player's decision comes just a year on from his choice to sign a new contract in the Spanish capital amid interest from Barcelona.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's clash with Levante, a match that's set to be Griezmann's final game for Atletico, Simeone said he has no ill feeling towards the player, per Daniel Lewis of Goal:

"First of all, I am grateful for the footballer that we've had. I only have words of gratitude for Griezmann. I love him as a person.

"I've learned not to judge the decisions of others. It's your job to have an opinion. You have to give everything without expecting anything back. When someone like Antoine gives his all for us, we're happy.

"We knew Griezmann leaving was a possibility. I spoke with Antoine before meeting with Miguel Angel [Gil, Atleti's chief executive] and Andrea [Berta, their sporting director]. I told him what I thought with affection and fondness and this was between us only."

Simeone said Griezmann gave "everything" to the Atletico cause. He also said the club will be able to thrive despite the departures of the forward, Diego Godin and Lucas Hernandez this summer, citing the likes of Radamel Falcao, Sergio Aguero and Diego Forlan who have been sold in the past.

Here is the video Atletico posted of Griezmann confirming his decision to move on:

Given the interest they had in the Frenchman a year ago, unsurprisingly the Blaugrana are being strongly linked with another move for the Atletico star:

According to Michael Butler of the Guardian, the La Liga champions are set to pay £108 million to secure the signature of the 28-year-old.

Griezmann has been essential to Atletico since arriving, growing into one of the best players in Spanish football while working under Simeone. He has adapted from being a luxury wide player into an effective centre-forward, able to create chances for his team-mate and score them himself.

Given Atletico have struggled to find a dependable partner for Griezmann during his time at the club, his departure will leave a major void in the final third. Kwiff summed up just how important he has been:

While Simeone is bullish about Atletico's ability to thrive regardless of the outgoings, in his time at the club he hasn't lost so many crucial players in quick succession. While Hernandez is a tremendous prospect, Godin and Griezmann have been colossal figures at different ends of the field.

If he does end up at Barcelona, manager Ernesto Valverde will face the challenge of how to integrate Griezmann into the side alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. However, the much more testing task will be Simeone's, as keeping Atletico competing for major honours following the Frenchman's exit is an unenviable task.

Report: Manchester City 'Offer on the Table' for Atletico Madrid's Rodri

Manchester City have reportedly submitted a formal offer to Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodri and are prepared to meet his €70 million (£61 million) release clause.

According to Sergio Santos Chozas of AS, Rodri is "very near to agreeing to go to the Etihad Stadium" and has an offer on the table for either five or six years that would see his salary significantly increase.

Chozas added other clubs are interested in Rodri and the move to City is not yet a done deal, but the 22-year-old is attracted by the chance to work under Pep Guardiola.

Rodri has only been at Atleti for a year after moving to the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium from Villarreal last summer on a five-year deal.

The Spaniard has been impressive under Diego Simeone, playing in 33 of Atleti's 37 La Liga games this season in the central-midfield role.

He would be a fine long-term replacement for Fernandinho in the deep-lying midfield role where City lack depth:

Fernandinho has been one of City's most important players ever since he joined the club in 2013.

But he is now 34, and City need to find an adequate replacement or risk losing some control in the middle of the park.

City have been brilliantly successful in the transfer market recently, with the majority of players Guardiola has spent big money on settling well and thriving at the Etihad.

Rodri looks as though he would be another to add to the list of successful transfers should City manage to snap him up.

At £61 million, he would be the club's most expensive signing, eclipsing the £60 million they spent to take Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City.

But given that he boasts crucial attributes in defence and distribution, he looks an ideal successor for Fernandinho at only 22 years of age.

Paulo Dybala Reportedly in Atletico Madrid Talks as Brother Hints at Juve Exit

Atletico Madrid have reportedly opened talks to sign Paulo Dybala after his brother and agent, Gustavo, said the forward could leave Juventus this summer as he "needs a change."

The Argentinian forward has struggled in 2018-19 as his role in the Juventus starting XI has been diminished and adapted following last summer's arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo.

He has scored just five goals in 28 Serie A appearances, compared to 22 in 33 last term.

Dybala has been linked with Manchester United and Bayern Munich, while Atleti have emerged as contenders in recent days following Antoine Griezmann's announcement he will depart the club this summer:

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport’s Nicolo Schira (h/t Football Italia), the Madrid outfit are in talks with Gustavo and have offered Dybala a five-year deal worth €9 million (£7.9 million) per season plus bonuses.

His brother explained on Argentinian radio show Futbolemico that Dybala's desire to leave Juve has nothing to do with any problems with Ronaldo (h/t Football Italia):

"Yes, there is a good chance he'll leave Juventus. Absolutely. He needs a change. I can't say where he'll go, but there is a strong chance Paulo will leave. Of course he's not happy there. Paulo's not the only one, as many players are uncomfortable at Juve. He won't be the [only] one who will leave the Bianconeri this summer.

"Cristiano is a great person, and he never had problems with him. They have a good rapport. There were a few misunderstandings tactically, as let's not forget they have similar positions."

Dybala, 25, has a contract at Juve that runs to 2022, and Corriere dello Sport (h/t Calciomercato.com) previously reported the Old Lady will only let him leave for €120 million (£105 million).

That price tag would usually rule Atletico out of the running to sign him, as they do not boast the financial clout of their Spanish rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid.

However, they look set for a windfall after Griezmann's announcement, as his most likely move is a €125 million (£109 million) switch to Barcelona, per Michael Butler in the Guardian.

Atleti will use that money to pay for his replacement, and it would make a lot of sense for them to spend it on Dybala:

The former Palermo star has had a poor 2018-19 campaign. But his previous seasons at Juve made it clear he is a top-class forward who would be a fantastic addition to most sides in Europe.
