Diego Simeone Says He Respects Atletico Fans After Alvaro Morata Protests

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone says he respects the opinion of the club's supporters after sections of fans were heard protesting against signing Chelsea's Alvaro Morata.

The striker appears poised to make the switch to the Wanda Metropolitano on loan, although the Atletico supporters don't appear completely on board with the deal. During the 2-0 win over Getafe on Saturday, some chants of "less Morata and more Borja Garces" were heard.

When asked about them, Simeone said he respects the fanbase and that he will bring in players whom he believes will enhance the team, per Joe Wright of Goal.

"The fans' opinion is always respectable," he noted. "I look for players who serve the club and the team."

According to Sky Sports, Morata will have his medical with the Madrid outfit on Sunday before joining on loan for the remainder of the campaign. Dominic Fifield of the Guardian reported that the Spain international's deal contains an option that would enable Atletico to sign him outright for £48.5 million.

The Spanish Football Podcast relayed footage of Morata in Madrid ahead of the finalisation of the move, with the player making it clear how happy he is to be moving to Atletico:

While the supporters clearly have a lot of faith in the talent of the 19-year-old Garces, one of the other reasons for their potential dissatisfaction with this move may be due to Morata's two spells with local rivals Real Madrid.

Speaking about his time at the Santiago Bernabeu, the striker was quick to offer a reminder that he started his youth career in the Atletico academy, per Sergio Picos of AS.

"It's normal that other people will have their own thoughts about it, but I know what I have to do," he said. "I started out playing for Atleti, and the people who know my background and where I come from know my history and what this means to me."

Morata does appear to be keen to get going at Atletico, although Spanish football journalist David Cartlidge is concerned these jeers may have a negative effect on the striker:

The move has the potential to spark Morata into life, though, as he's endured a difficult spell at Chelsea since arriving in the summer of 2017.

Madrid is a city he knows well, so he should be able to settle quickly off the field. On the pitch, Morata has performed to a high standard in La Liga previously:

After failing to adjust to life in the Premier League, Morata will be grateful to get another chance at an elite European club. At 26, it's imperative he starts to show consistency.

If he can hit the ground running, then you sense those detractors inside the Wanda will slowly thin out. After all, Atletico have been without a consistent partner for Antoine Griezmann, and Morata has the attributes to be a fine foil for the France international.

Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak has hinted at a possible future in the Premier League and revealed why he didn't join Chelsea in the summer.

Speaking to FourFourTwo (h/t AS' Patricia Cazon), the Slovak expressed faith in the Atletico project, but he also said he would like to play in England one day:

"I can't talk too much about [why a move to Chelsea didn't materialise], but I said in the summer that I'd prefer to stay.

"I didn't speak with any clubs—my agent and the people at Atletico do those things. I decided to stay as I saw a good project here, and I believe the best way I can win titles is by staying.

"But in the future, everything is possible. In football, things change from one day to another, so it's impossible to say you're going to be somewhere for many years, because you don't know. January is here, June is there. Things can change so fast.

"The Premier League is interesting. It's attractive, and at some stage I may want to be part of that competition. I can see myself there, but I don't know when—maybe next year, in two years, five or 10."

The 26-year-old has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world at Atletico after joining the club in 2014 from Benfica. He continued the Rojiblancos' tradition of nurturing excellent goalkeepers, with David De Gea and Thibaut Courtois previously wearing the shirt.

Oblak is arguably a better stopper than either of those players right now, putting up some gaudy statistics:

That has led to some exit speculation, and the Slovak was seen as a candidate to replace Courtois at Chelsea in the summer, per Cazon. The Blues eventually settled on Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao, however.

Atletico manager Diego Simeone has revealed the club are working on a new contract for their star stopper. That hasn't stopped the transfer speculation, however, with Sam Cunningham of iNews (h/t Metro) reporting Manchester United could go after him if De Gea leaves the club.

Like De Gea, Oblak routinely makes spectacular saves:

All of the Premier League's giant clubs either have star goalkeepers or invested in the position during the summer. Few of them would pass up the opportunity to add Oblak, however, as he's arguably the top option at the position in the world and is still improving at the age of 26.

The three-time Zamora Trophy winner will likely have his pick of clubs if he decides to move on.

Koke Believes Diego Godin Will Stay at Atletico Madrid Amid Latest Rumours

Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke is confident Diego Godin will want to stay on at the club past the summer, despite links to Manchester United and Inter Milan.

On Saturday, Sky In Italy reported the centre-back, who was a target for United last summer, has agreed to move to Inter on a free transfer at the end of 2018-19 when his Atleti contract expires (h/t Sky Sports).

Koke, though, believes the 32-year-old will opt to remain in Madrid, where he has thrived since joining Atletico from Villarreal in 2010, per Marca (h/t Calciomercato):

"Godin? I think he will want to stay on with us. He will have to talk with the club but I am sure they will find an agreement. Many clubs are interested in Atletico Madrid players, it is also up to the player to choose."

Uruguayan Godin has been widely regarded as one of Europe's best centre-backs for some time now, although he has made some high-profile errors this season:

He played a key role in Atleti's La Liga triumph in 2013-14 and has been a stalwart for the club as they have established themselves in recent years as a major European force.

One of the key reasons for the Madrid outfit reaching two of the last five UEFA Champions League finals, and winning the UEFA Europa League last year, has been the stout defence led by Godin.

He would be a major asset to Inter or United, and the fact that his contract is winding down is sure to have piqued the interest of a number of clubs.

Godin is one of manager Diego Simeone's key lieutenants on the pitch, and the Argentinian will surely be desperate to keep him in his squad.

The problem for Atleti is they cannot compete financially with Europe's biggest clubs, so they will have to rely on Godin's loyalty if they are persuade him to stay.
