Steelers Rumors: Chase Claypool Expected to Stay as Trade 'Would Have to Be Perfect'

The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly not expected to trade wide receiver Chase Claypool before the Nov. 1 deadline.
Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported an offer "would have to be perfect" for the Steelers to consider moving the 2020 second-round pick.
Rumors have been rampant about Claypool's future with the franchise, particularly after he criticized the offense's lack of downfield passing.
"I just think we need more go balls," he told reporters after last week's 16-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins. "Like, damn, not enough go balls. We got playmakers. I haven't had a go ball all year. George [Pickens] needs more, [Diontae Johnson] needs more. I'm not saying that's on the play-calling, I'm just saying we need to try to find a way to scheme it up."
Jordan Schultz of theScore previously reported the Steelers were contacted by two teams interested in Claypool and were informed they wanted at least a second-round pick in return. The Green Bay Packers were among the teams heavily rumored to be interested in Claypool as they desperately look to improve the receiving corps around Aaron Rodgers.
Claypool has recorded 28 receptions for 266 yards and a touchdown so far this season while adding 55 yards on eight carries. The Steelers have been one of the worst offenses in football throughout the season, completely lacking in explosive plays after the catch and downfield shots in the passing game.
Claypool had at least 800 receiving yards in each of his first two seasons but has struggled to find his nose for the end zone the last two seasons. After scoring 11 times as a rookie, Claypool has three scores in his last 22 games.
Claypool is under contract for $1.5 million in 2023, the final year of his rookie contract.
Browns Rumors: Kareem Hunt Trade 'Appears Unlikely' Ahead of Deadline

Kareem Hunt will likely remain with the Cleveland Browns for the remainder of the 2022 campaign as he is "unlikely" to be traded ahead of Tuesday's deadline, per Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com.
Hunt requested a trade from the Browns over the summer, but he has not renewed that request, he told reporters Saturday.
"I haven’t said anything to them," Hunt said. "I just come in and work. That’s all I ever do."
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano reported earlier this week that Hunt is available for a fourth-round draft pick. However, it's unclear which teams might be interested in the veteran running back.
Hunt has been a reliable running back over his six-year NFL career. However, he has become an afterthought in a Cleveland backfield that is led by three-time Pro Bowler Nick Chubb and also includes D'Ernest Johnson.
The 27-year-old has rushed for 263 yards and three touchdowns on 66 carries in seven games this season, in addition to catching 15 passes for 87 yards and one score. However, his workload has declined significantly over the last two weeks.
In a Week 6 loss to the New England Patriots, Hunt had just four carries for 12 yards. In a Week 7 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, he had five carries for four yards and one touchdown.
Hunt has spent the last four seasons of his career in Cleveland after being selected by the Chiefs in the third round of the 2017 NFL draft out of Toledo and spending the first two years of his career in Kansas City.
Hunt's best season with the Browns came in 2020 when he rushed for 841 yards and six touchdowns on 198 carries in 16 games, in addition to catching 38 passes for 304 yards and five scores.
The 2017 Pro Bowler is in the final year of a two-year, $12 million pact with the Browns, his hometown team. However, Cleveland has yet to make him an extension offer, and he admitted Saturday it's been tough knowing he'll likely be playing elsewhere in 2023.
"I mean, it ain’t easy but I’m a person who can put his pride to the side and just continue to go out there and do my job," Hunt said, per Cabot. "I love the game of football, and I enjoy it every time I touch the field."
Cleveland enters Monday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals with a 2-5 record, and that could be Hunt's final game with the Browns.
NFL Trade Rumors: Steelers Seeking 2nd-Round Pick for Chase Claypool

The Pittsburgh Steelers might trade Chase Claypool, but it doesn't mean they'll sell low on the third-year wide receiver.
Per Jordan Schultz of The Score, two teams that have contacted the Steelers say the club is seeking a second-round draft pick in order to move Claypool.
As the Steelers offense has struggled amid a 2-5 start to the season, Claypool has been vocal about wanting them to open things up to create more big plays.
"I just think we need more go balls," he told reporters after Sunday's 16-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins. "Like, damn, not enough go balls. We got playmakers. I haven't had a go ball all year. George [Pickens] needs more, [Diontae Johnson] needs more. I'm not saying that's on the play-calling, I'm just saying we need to try to find a way to scheme it up."
It's unclear if Pittsburgh's quarterbacks are equipped to make the deep throws that Claypool is seeking. Kenny Pickett ranks third in the NFL with seven interceptions despite playing in just four games. He averaged 5.8 yards per attempt on 44 passes against the Dolphins.
Mitch Trubisky wasn't any better when he was the Steelers' No. 1 quarterback. He threw for 797 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions in four starts.
George Pickens and Pat Freiermuth are the only Pittsburgh pass-catchers with at least 20 receptions who are averaging more than 10 yards per catch.
Claypool's best game of the season was in a Week 6 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He caught all seven targets for 96 yards and one touchdown. The Notre Dame alum has failed to record more than 50 receiving yards in the other six games.
The Steelers selected Claypool with the No. 49 overall pick in the 2020 draft. He averaged more than 14 yards per reception in each of his first two seasons playing with a diminished version of Ben Roethlisberger.
Claypool has one more year remaining on his rookie deal that will pay him $1.5 million in 2023.
Lamar Jackson Impresses Twitter, Outduels Tom Brady as Ravens Top Bucs on TNF

The Ravens lost Mark Andrews, Rashod Bateman and Gus Edwards to injury against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday night, but that was no problem for Lamar Jackson, who led Baltimore to a 27-22 victory at Raymond James Stadium.
Jackson was brilliant against Tampa Bay, completing 27-of-38 passes for 238 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 43 yards on nine carries.
The performances of Kenyan Drake, Isaiah Likely and Devin Duvernay should not be understated, however. Drake rushed for 62 yards on seven carries and caught four passes for five yards and a score.
Likely, a rookie, caught six passes for 77 yards and a score, which led the Ravens. Duvernay caught four passes for 31 yards and also rushed for 33 yards and a touchdown on two carries.
Jackson, of course, was the catalyst to the offense's success, and he was praised by Twitter for outdueling seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady:
The Ravens moved to 5-3 with the win, while the Bucs dropped to 3-5. Baltimore's win puts it in sole possession of first place in the AFC North.
If Jackson can continue to perform as well as he did Thursday night, the Ravens will be in a good position through the second half of the season. They'll next travel to face the New Orleans Saints on Nov. 7.
Ravens' Mark Andrews Ruled out vs. Buccaneers with Shoulder Injury

Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews has been ruled out for the remainder of Thursday night's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium with a shoulder injury, the team announced.
Andrews suffered the injury in the second quarter when he landed on his shoulder while being tackled after catching a pass from Lamar Jackson.
Andrews did not practice all week because of a knee injury and was listed as questionable on the injury report entering Thursday's game. It marked the second straight week he was listed with a knee injury.
The 27-year-old has been Lamar Jackson's top target this season, entering Thursday's game with 39 catches for 455 yards and five touchdowns in seven games.
If Andrews is sidelined for a longer period of time, rookie Isaiah Likely and Josh Oliver figure to see more playing time. Likely entered Thursday having caught 10 passes for 104 yards in seven games.
Oliver has caught four passes for 29 yards and one score through seven games. Veteran Nick Boyle is also available.
More responsibility will also be placed on wide receivers Rashod Bateman, Devin Duvernay and Demarcus Robinson.
The Ravens entered Thursday's game against the Bucs tied for first in the AFC North with a 4-3 record. The Cincinnati Bengals are also 4-3 on the season.
Andrews had a breakout 2021 campaign, catching 107 passes for 1,361 yards and nine touchdowns in 17 games. Considering he's emerged as Jackson's top target, the Ravens need to make sure he's healthy moving forward.
Bengals' Ja'Marr Chase Won't Be Placed on IR After Suffering Hip Injury

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase will be sidelined for approximately four to six weeks with a hip injury, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Head coach Zac Taylor told reporters Saturday his star wideout won't be placed on injured reserve. A move to IR would have kept Chase out for a minimum of four weeks.
The 22-year-old suffered the injury in an Oct. 16 win over the New Orleans Saints and reaggravated it in last weekend's victory over the Atlanta Falcons, per Schefter.
The fifth pick in the 2021 draft, Chase put together a monster sophomore season at LSU with 84 catches for 1,780 yards and 20 touchdowns in 14 games before opting to sit out the 2020 campaign. He tallied 1,455 yards and 13 scores in an impressive season that earned him Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.
He's added 47 receptions for 605 yards and six TDs in seven games in 2022.
The Louisiana native didn't miss any time with the Tigers because of injury. His last notable setback came in 2017 during his time at Archbishop Rummel High School when he suffered a knee injury late in his senior season.
Cincinnati's receiver depth will be challenged with Chase out, which would create an opening in three-wide sets alongside Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins. Mike Thomas will likely get the first shot to fill the void, but Trent Taylor could also see more snaps.
NFL Rumors: Browns' Greedy Williams Subject of 'Multiple' Trade Calls Before Deadline

The Cleveland Browns have "received multiple calls" regarding cornerback Greedy Williams, but "nothing is imminent" as far as a deal goes before Tuesday's NFL trade deadline, per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano.
Williams, a former LSU star, began this year on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. He made his season debut on Oct. 16 versus the New England Patriots.
For the year, Williams has played 51 defensive snaps over two games and registered four tackles
The third-year pro was a second-round pick in 2019.
Willams started all 12 games he played during his rookie season in 2019, compiling 47 tackles and two pass breakups along the way. A hamstring injury cost him the remaining four games.
Unfortunately, a nerve issue in his shoulder cost Williams the entire 2020 campaign. He returned in 2021, played 16 games (eight starts) and amassed 10 pass breakups, two interceptions and 41 tackles.
At this juncture, Williams is a backup behind starters Denzel Ward and Greg Newsome II, perhaps making him more likely to be dealt. Brad Stainbrook of the Orange and Brown Report noted Monday that the team is listening to offers on Williams and also running back Kareem Hunt.
Williams' season unfortunately has been marred with injuries, but he still has tremendous potential. He was a First-Team All-American in 2018 and a Thorpe Award finalist as well. The 6'3" cornerback offers the size needs to cover bigger wide receivers too.
For now, Williams remains a Brown as the 2-5 team looks to get back on the winning track on Monday evening against the Cincinnati Bengals.
