Alabama wide receiver Jameson Williams was ejected during the second quarter of the Iron Bowl against Auburn on Saturday after being called for targeting.
The targeting penalty was assessed when Williams made helmet-to-helmet contact with Auburn's Ja'Varrius Johnson while tackling him on a punt return.
Auburn went on to take a 7-0 lead on the ensuing drive when quarterback T.J. Finley threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Kobe Hudson.
While Williams was ejected because of a special teams play, he has been Alabama's No. 1 wideout throughout the 2021 season.
The dynamic junior receiver entered Saturday second on the team in receptions with 59 behind John Metchie III, and he also led the team in receiving yardage (1,218), receiving touchdowns (13) and yards per reception (20).
Prior to getting ejected from the game, quarterback Bryce Young's favorite target had two catches for 43 yards.
Metchie will be the unquestioned No. 1 wideout for the remainder of the contest, while other less-heralded receivers will also be asked to step up by head coach Nick Saban.
Slade Bolden, Traeshon Holden and Javon Baker are a few of the wide receivers who could have increased roles with Williams out.
Alabama will also look to get Brian Robinson Jr. and the running game going in Williams' absence.
Louisiana's Billy Napier Reportedly Emerges as Top Candidate in Florida HC Search

The Florida Gators reportedly have their eyes on Billy Napier to become their next head football coach.
Per Ross Dellenger and Pat Forde of Sports Illustrated, the Louisiana head coach has emerged as the top choice to replace Dan Mullen.
SI noted if a deal is reached at some point within the next week, Napier would still coach Louisiana against Appalachian State in the Sun Belt Conference championship game on Dec. 4.
Florida's athletic department announced on Nov. 21 a parting of ways with Mullen one day after a 24-23 loss to Missouri. The Gators had a 5-6 record overall with one game remaining in the regular season.
Special teams coordinator/running backs coach Greg Knox is filling in as head coach for Saturday's game against Florida State.
Mullen was hired by the Gators in November 2017 after he spent nine seasons as head coach at Mississippi State. The 49-year-old went 34-15 in 49 games at Florida with one appearance in the SEC Championship Game (2020).
Napier is in his fourth season as head coach of the Ragin' Cajuns. After a 7-7 record in his first year with the program, the 42-year-old has gone 31-5 in 36 games since the start of 2019.
Prior to being hired by Louisiana, Napier had extensive experience as an assistant coach with several top-tier programs. He was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Clemson for Dabo Swinney's first two seasons from 2009 to 2010.
Napier spent five seasons over two stints at Alabama. He worked as an analyst for the Crimson Tide in 2011 and wide receivers coach from 2013 to 2016.
Before Napier's hiring at Louisiana, the program posted three consecutive losing seasons under Mark Hudspeth.

For many teams, this week is the end of the road. No matter how many times we go through it, college football's regular season always reaches an abrupt halt.
Sure, we have conference championships, some lingering matchups, a bowl season and the College Football Playoff to unpack. And we will explore all of these in depth.
But the last normal-ish weekend of the year is upon us, and we must take full advantage of a wonderful slate of games.
Last weekend, I was unable to do that. I finished the weekend under .500 for the first time in a month. There was plenty of good in the 4-6 week, although there was some bad as well—more on that in a moment.
Regardless, we enter Week 13 with a record of 58-60-2.
The close will be spectacular.
Before I move on to the picks, here's what went right and wrong last weekend.
The Good: Utah (-3) vs. Oregon:This was easy. Utah absolutely destroyed Oregon and an end to the Pac-12's playoff hopes. My only regret is I didn't bet more on the Utes.
The Bad: Kansas State (-1) vs. Baylor:I thought Baylor would let down after beating Oklahoma. I thought K-State would take advantage at home. I thought wrong.
With that, let's pick some winners.
Mississippi State (-1) vs. Ole Miss
The fact that this game is being played on Thanksgiving is wonderful. Let's start there.
There is something about the Egg Bowl that suits Thanksgiving well, and I am thrilled we have another football game to consume on this day of consumption. This isn't just another football game, either, as both rivals have had tremendous seasons.
Ole Miss is 9-2. Mississippi State is 7-4.
Naturally, the public will likely back Lane Kiffin and flashy QB Matt Corral. But the more I see Mississippi State, the more I like.
The Bulldogs have not lost against the spread since October 16. The Rebels have also played three true road games this year; they are 1-2 ATS in those games.
Mike Leach's unique play-calling and style should be effective once again. While many will sprint toward a top-10 team getting points against an unranked foe, I'm going the other way.
Also, something weird will happen in this game. Something weird always happens. Add in Leach and Kiffin, and we have ourselves potential for something wonderfully odd.
Oregon (-7) vs. Oregon State
We cashed in betting against the Ducks last week. Outside of betting Ohio State against Michigan State, which I unfortunately didn't do, I'm not sure there was an easier win all weekend.
A week later, and I'm back on Oregon.
Now, I don't do this lightly. Oregon State is fun and clearly improved. We saw that against Arizona State, and we've seen it a handful of times throughout the year.
I've actually done well betting on the Beavers the past few years, but they are still growing. It was only a few weeks ago they lost to California and Colorado as favorites in successive weeks.
Coming home will certainly help Oregon. And as long as the team isn't heartbroken after watching its playoff hopes go up in flames, I think we see a much better game and a lot more offense.
The Ducks close out a really quality regular season with a double-digit win and head to the Pac-12 Championship game.
Boise State (-2.5) at San Diego State
Now, this is a fascinating point spread and football game.
Despite having just one loss, San Diego State is an underdog at home to a program that lost three out of its first five games to start the year.
For a good chunk of the season, this looked like a lost year for Boise State. The Broncos, however, have climbed back to 7-4. It's worth noting that one of the seven wins came against BYU, and one of the four losses came against Oklahoma State. Both have aged quite nicely.
The Broncos have won their past four games, covering the spread in three of those contests.
While I appreciate what San Diego State has done—and I absolutely love watching Matt Araiza boom punts and kick field goals—this team has offensive issues that could be highlighted in a game just like this. And I believe they will.
Also, this game will be played at 9 a.m. local time on Friday. We all might be a little groggy for this one.
LSU (+6.5) vs. Texas A&M
In all likelihood, this will be Ed Orgeron's last hurrah with LSU. The Tigers could still make a bowl game, and Orgeron could ultimately coach that game, but it's probable this will be the last time he graces the sideline of his dream job.
That is a fascinating backdrop when you consider how Orgeron arrived in this position in the first place. As an interim coach with USC and also LSU, Orgeron always tapped into these types of emotional spots.
This one is unquestionably different, although I could see LSU really playing well. Also, the Tigers have played considerably better as of late. Specifically, the defense has been excellent over the past month, which should bode well against a Texas A&M team that has struggled offensively at times.
With the total in the mid-40s, this could be a lower-scoring game. And if that is to be the case—and I believe I will be—LSU has an opportunity to hang around until the very end.
Coach O delivers (at least) one more wild ride.
Nebraska (+1.5) vs. Iowa
MADISON, WISCONSIN - NOVEMBER 20: Head coach Scott Frost of the Nebraska Cornhuskers looks on before a game against the Wisconsin Badgers at Camp Randall Stadium on November 20, 2021 in Madison, Wisconsin. (Photo by Patrick McDermott/Getty Images)
Full disclosure: I liked Nebraska before quarterback Adrian Martinez was announced out on Monday, and I still like the Huskers now.
If you've read this piece for some time, you know I have some Iowa roots. This year, those roots have served me well. I bet Iowa against Penn State and won (although I was lucky). I bet Wisconsin against Iowa and won comfortably. That one wasn't lucky at all.
This game has concerned me all year long. Even as Nebraska finds new and exciting ways to lose football games, my thoughts about this matchup have not changed.
Sure, the Cornhuskers have mastered the art of losing one-score games. Against Wisconsin on Saturday, they lost their seventh game by a touchdown or less in 2021. And yet, at 3-8 they're still favored over a 9-2 team.
The Hawkeyes will naturally draw tons of action. That's understandable given Nebraska's record and the absence at QB. But the Cornhuskers have an excellent defense that could keep them in the game. And given Martinez's turnover woes, is it really the worst thing he won't start against a team that thrives on takeaways?
Logan Smothers gets the start, and he was one of the most-coveted dual-threat QBs in the country not so long ago. He has some ability, and it might be just enough.
Other Games on the Card

Cincinnati at East Carolina (Over 57): I'm actually really excited about this game, and I think East Carolina will find success putting up points. So will Cincinnati, hence the over bet.
Boston College (+4.5) vs. Wake Forest: The rough stretch continues for Wake Forest. While BC started slow last week, it found a rhythm in the second half. Boston College outright.
North Carolina at North Carolina State (Over 63): This game could and should be a great deal of fun. I know North Carolina's season hasn't gone as planned, but the offense can still cook. NC State's can, too, and they both will in this one.
Washington State (-1) vs. Washington: I know I'll have company on this one, and that's just fine. Washington State is playing for interim coach Jake Dickert, who is trying to get the full-time gig.
Texas (-3) vs. Kansas State: Let's get weird. At some point, Texas will play well. It might come in 50 years. Or, it could come this week. I believe we see a moment of success.

Missouri's Drinkwitz on Dan Mullen, Florida: 'If You Sow Jackass, You Reap Jackass'
Nov 23, 2021
COLUMBIA, MO - SEPTEMBER 04: Missouri Tigers head coach Eli Drinkwitz during a college football game between the Central Michigan Chippewas and Missouri Tigers on Sep 4, 2021 at Memorial Stadium at Faurot Field in Columbia, MO. (Photo by Scott Winters/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images)
Missouri football coach Eli Drinkwitz doesn't seem too upset that Dan Mullen lost his job as head coach of Florida this week.
"My father was a farmer, and there's an old saying you reap what you sow," Drinkwitz told reporters Tuesday. "If you sow kindness, you reap kindness. If you sow jackass, you reap jackass."
Missouri earned a 24-23 overtime win over Florida on Saturday, leading to Mullen's firing after the Gators fell to 5-6 on the season.
There is history between these two teams after an on-field brawl during the 2020 matchup led to five suspensions and Mullen being fined for running onto the field.
Florida won that game 41-17 before Mullen showed up to the postgame press conference waring his Darth Vader Halloween costume:
Missouri is 6-5 during Drinkwitz's second season with the program and is looking for its first bowl appearance since 2018.
LSU CB Eli Ricks Reportedly Entering Name in Transfer Portal; Former 5-Star Recruit

LSU cornerback Eli Ricks is reportedly entering his name into the transfer portal.
Sam Spiegelman of Rivals reported Ricks is planning to depart Baton Rouge after two seasons. The former 5-star recruit was a freshman All-American in 2020 but was limited to six games this season because of a shoulder injury.
Transfer rumors have followed the third-team All-American throughout his time at LSU. His mother, Shauna, told The Athletic's Brody Miller in October there was no truth to the rumor his shoulder surgery was an "opt-out" ahead of a transfer.
“He came here because it’s DBU, and he wanted to learn,” she said. “Not to just go to the NFL. but be prepared and stay in the NFL.”
Ricks' family has lived in Louisiana while he has been attending LSU and has relatives in the area. The 6'2", 195-pound corner played three years of high school football at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, before transferring to Florida's IMG Academy for his senior year.
USC was considered a major contender for Ricks ahead of his commitment to LSU and could be a factor again in the portal.
However, it's possible that Ricks looks for a program on more stable ground. LSU is set to embark on a coaching search after agreeing to part ways with Ed Orgeron after this season, and USC fired Clay Helton two games into the 2021 campaign.
Ricks will be eligible to play in the 2022 season because of a new NCAA rule that allows players to transfer once without forfeiting any eligibility during their college career.
Dan Mullen Fired as Florida HC amid 5-6 Season
Nov 21, 2021

Dan Mullen's tenure as head coach of the Florida Gators is over.
Florida fired Mullen on Sunday after going just 5-6 to start the 2021 campaign, the team announced.
Mullen tweeted out a statement on Sunday to show his appreciation for the opportunity:
Florida suffered a 24-23 loss to Missouri on Saturday, dropping the squad to just 2-6 in SEC play.
The Gators looked to be well on their way to a strong season even in defeat when they lost a 31-29 thriller to Alabama in their SEC opener in September. That they followed the loss with a convincing win over rival Tennessee did nothing to quell the confidence.
However, the season went downhill from there.
Florida lost to Kentucky, dropped a game to a mediocre LSU squad and was then blown out by Georgia. Yet the low point may have come during a 40-17 loss to South Carolina to begin November, which dropped the Gators to 4-5 and left even a bowl game appearance somewhat in doubt.
"I didn't see it coming. I'm obviously really disappointed," Mullen told reporters after the game. "Wasn't seeing the game play out this way, so very disappointed. I know our players are very disappointed."
USA Today's Dan Wolken suggested the coach's career at Florida was at a "crossroads" after the stunning loss.
Mullen was already under the microscope prior to the loss for a comment he made about recruiting. He told reporters, "We're in the season right now. We'll do recruiting after the season" after he was asked about losing two top commits.
Although he later clarified to reporters the comment was taken out of context and the "staff recruits nonstop," the loss only magnified the existing criticism.
Mullen's tenure with the Gators trended in the wrong direction following an impressive start.
They went 10-3 with a Peach Bowl win over Michigan in his first year in 2018 and then built on that at 11-2 with an Orange Bowl win over Virginia in 2019. However, they were just 8-4 in 2020 during a season they capped off with a 35-point loss to Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl.
It's somewhat surprising he never fully found his footing with the Gators considering he impressed at Mississippi State during a tenure that lasted from 2009 through 2017.
The Bulldogs went 69-46 overall under Mullen and made a bowl game in seven of his seasons at the helm. Considering they had only made eight total bowl games since 1981 when he took over, it was quite an accomplishment.
They were even ranked No. 1 at one point during a 2014 campaign that saw them finish 10-3. It was just the second time since 1940 the program won double-digit games in a season.
Alas, the coach who overachieved at Mississippi State was unable to accomplish the program's goals at Florida and is now out of a job.
No. 2 Alabama Holds off No. 21 Arkansas as Bryce Young Throws for Record 561 Yards

Alabama clinched a berth in the SEC Championship Game and a showdown with No. 1 Georgia on Saturday. No surprises there—it's kinda what the Crimson Tide do.
No. 2 Alabama knocked off No. 21 Arkansas, 42-35, behind a record-setting game from Heisman Trophy hopeful Bryce Young.
Bryce Young breaks the Alabama single-game passing yards record against Arkansas 👏
The Razorbacks didn't have many answers for Alabama's passing game or the explosive receiving duo of John Metchie III and Jameson Williams, who carved up the Arkansas secondary, though, few defenses have had many answers for Young and his impressive array of weapons.
However, Alabama didn't make things easy on themselves. After the Crimson Tide went up 31-14 in the third quarter, Arkansas battled back to within six points. Some crucial Alabama mistakes—a penalty that erased a touchdown, a poor decision from Young to take a sack that led to a missed field and Cameron Latu's fumble in the red zone—aided the comeback attempt.
Oh, and there was Arkansas' brilliant fake field goal, too:
And so, a week ahead of the Iron Bowl, Alabama clinched the SEC West. The annual rivalry game with Auburn won't lose much luster—a second loss on the season would make it much more difficult for the Crimson Tide to reach the College Football Playoff—but Alabama's place in Atlanta is secured.
Key Stats
Bryce Young, Bama: 31-of-40 for 561 yards and five touchdowns
John Metchie III, Bama: 10 catches for 173 yards and a score
Jameson Williams, Bama: Eight catches for 190 yards and three touchdowns
KJ Jefferson, ARK: 22-of-30 for 326 yards and three scores; 22 rushing yards
Treylon Burks, ARK: Eight catches for 179 yards and two touchdowns
Blake Kern, ARK: Three catches for 47 yards and a score
Bryce Young Kept Himself In The Heisman Hunt
On a day that saw Ohio State redshirt freshman quarterback C.J. Stroud throw for 432 yards and six touchdowns, Young—a sophomore—made sure he would remain one of the favorites for the Heisman.
Imagine where Alabama would be without his play this season. The defense hasn't been great, something of a rarity under Nick Saban, and yet Young has made one big play after another to propel Bama to the SEC Championship Game through the ever-difficult SEC schedule.
Bryce Young is the 3rd player in Alabama history to reach 35 pass TD in a season. Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones are the others. pic.twitter.com/xfVsWpekYF
And he just makes it all look so effortless. He's a special player, and there's no doubt that NFL teams are eagerly scouting him ahead of the 2023 NFL draft. It's going to be fun watching him go to work against Georgia's ferocious defense in two weeks.
Treylon Burks Had Himself A Game
Burks came into Saturday's game with 51 catches for 796 yards and eight scores, so it wasn't a huge surprise that Alabama's secondary couldn't slow him down either on Saturday.
"He is a physical mismatch," Alabama's head coach told reporters this week. "He's bigger than most of the guys that are trying to guard him. It's kind of like a point guard trying to cover a power forward-type guy who can run fast."
On Saturday, the power forward won. Well, the individual matchup, at least.
What's Next?
The aforementioned Iron Bowl. Auburn will host the Crimson Tide next Saturday (time TBD). Arkansas will close its season by hosting Missouri on Black Friday at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
Will Rogers Breaks Dak Prescott's Mississippi State Single-Season passing Records
Nov 20, 2021

A few Mississippi State records once held by Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott now belong to Will Rogers.
The sophomore quarterback set Mississippi State's single-season passing records for yards and touchdowns in Saturday's 55-10 win over the Tennessee State Tigers. Rogers has 4,113 passing yards and 34 passing touchdowns this season.
Rogers tossed his record-setting 30th touchdown of the season in the first quarter of Saturday's game, hitting Austin Williams to give the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead.
On the Bulldogs second possession, Rogers broke Prescott's passing yards record with an eight-yard pass to Jamire Calvin. Mississippi State went on to score another touchdown on that drive to go up 14-0.
"It's tremendous," Rogers said of breaking Prescott's records. "Anytime you have your name in the same company as Dak Prescott, it's pretty incredible. I never really imagined that would happen honestly. I've been watching Dak since I was in fifth, sixth, seventh grade. The things he did here were amazing – taking the team to No. 1 [in the country] and all that. So just to have my name in the same company as Dak is truly incredible."
Rogers is one of just four quarterbacks in the country to throw for more than 3,700 yards, passed for 25 touchdowns and completed 75 percent of his passes in a season since 2000, per MSU's media relations (h/t 247Sports).
Rogers also became the first-ever Bulldog to throw for more than 4,000 yards in a season. In addition, he has thrown for at least 300 yards in 10 games this season and 12 times in his career, which are also records.
Mississippi State head coach Mike Leach said after the win that he wasn't surprised Rogers set the records, adding that the quarterback's teammates have also played very well this season.
"I'm pleased, I'm not really surprised," Leach said. "We're out there every day in practice. We're a very young team, so the more reps we get, they improve quicker when they're younger. I think [Rogers has] done a really good job of staying focused.
"He works incredibly hard. I think he's become more consistent, but where his improvement [began] – and the improvement of the linemen, the backs and the receivers – is hard to define. He's more used to his personnel and they've become more consistent. It allows you to execute better."
The Bulldogs have one game remaining against the No. 10 Ole Miss Rebels on Thanksgiving. So, Rogers will get another chance to continue etching his name into the record books.
Ole Miss HC Lane Kiffin to Attend Arch Manning's Game amid No. 1 QB's Recruitment

Ole Miss head football coach Lane Kiffin confirmed that he will be in attendance when quarterback Arch Manning and Isidore Newman face Episcopal in the quarterfinals of the Division III LHSAA playoffs in Louisiana on Friday.
Kiffin made it official with the following tweet Friday morning:
According to ESPN's Tom VanHaaren, a change in NCAA recruiting rules now allows college head coaches to promote recruiting trips to high schools.
Ole Miss is one of several programs known to be in the running for Manning, who is rated as a 5-star prospect and the No. 1 overall player in the 2023 recruiting class by 247Sports.
Along with Ole Miss, 247Sports lists Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and Texas as the schools that have offered Manning a scholarship and are in hot pursuit of the promising signal-caller.
Manning is the nephew of former NFL quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Eli Manning, and the grandson of former NFL quarterback Archie Manning.
Both Eli and Archie played their college football at Ole Miss, making the Rebels strong candidates to potentially land Arch.
After throwing for 1,922 yards, 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions, while leading Isidore Newman to a 9-1 record and a trip to the state semifinals last season, Manning has thrown for 1,327 yards, 17 touchdowns and three picks, while also rushing for 283 yards and four scores in six games this season, per MaxPreps.
Gabe Brooks, a recruiting analyst for 247Sports, projects Manning as an eventual first-round pick in the NFL draft thanks to his elite all-around skill set.
Ole Miss is 8-2 and ranked No. 12 in the nation, meaning it is in the midst of its best season since going 10-3 in 2015.
The Rebs have been carried by their high-powered offense, as they ranked 15th in the country with 36.9 points per game and are led by quarterback Matt Corral, who is a Heisman Trophy candidate in Kiffin's offense.
Ole Miss is peaking at the right time in terms of appealing to Manning, and Kiffin's presence at the Isidore Newman game on Friday could go a long way toward helping Mississippi secure Arch in the near future.
Georgia LB Adam Anderson Being Investigated by Police for 2nd Rape Allegation

A second rape allegation has been made against Georgia linebacker Adam Anderson, who was already suspended from the team indefinitely and under investigation by Athens, Georgia police after a 21-year-old woman said that the senior raped her on Oct. 29.
During Anderson's bond hearing Wednesday, a second woman said he raped her. Athens-Clarke County police told The Athletic's Seth Emerson that the investigation for the second allegation is in Oconee County.
Emerson also provided details from the incident report for the first allegation:
According to an incident report released by police on Nov. 4, a 21-year-old woman told police that she went to a residence sometime after midnight on Oct. 29 after having some drinks and awoke to Anderson penetrating her while she was lying in bed. She stated that the act was not consensual and she was able to leave the residence.
Anderson turned himself in to police last Wednesday, and he was being held at Athens-Clarke County Jail. The linebacker has denied the allegation, per his attorney Steve Sadow:
Adam is innocent of the charge brought against him and intends to vigorously defend himself in court. He will seek release on bond. Once again, Adam hopes and prays that the UGA community and the public keep an open mind and afford him the presumption of innocence that the law demands.
Sadow told Emerson that Anderson was released on a $25,000 bond. Anderson was initially arrested on a warrant, but police have not yet formally charged him.
Anderson is in his fourth season with the Bulldogs. He leads the team with five sacks.
