The Milwaukee Bucks defeated the visiting New York Knicks 123-108 on Friday at Fiserv Forum.

Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo led all players with 38 points on 12-of-19 shooting and 13 rebounds. Milwaukee guard Jrue Holiday complemented Antetokounmpo's effort with 24 points and a game-high 10 assists.

Evan Fournier led the Knicks scoring attack with 25 points on 10-of-19 shooting. RJ Barrett scored 23 points but made only 6-of-20 field goals. Julius Randle had 11 rebounds but scored just nine points and committed four turnovers.

New York hung tough through the first three quarters and only trailed 93-91 after an Alec Burks three-pointer early in the fourth quarter. However, Antetokounmpo scored seven points and dished an assist amid a 15-3 run to create some distance. Milwaukee never led by fewer than eight points for the remainder of the game.

The 31-20 Bucks have won four of their last five. The 23-27 Knicks have lost three straight and six of seven.

Giannis, Holiday Bring the Win Home for Bucks

Milwaukee's three-game winning streak came to a crashing halt on Wednesday as the Cleveland Cavaliers crushed the reigning champions 115-99. It was a wake-up call for the Bucks, who were outscored 69-42 over the second and third quarters.

After that ugly loss, it behooved the Bucks to respond positively on Friday against the reeling, 12th-place Knicks.

While their defensive effort sometimes left a lot to be desired, the Giannis- and Holiday-led offense paved the way for a resounding victory.

Antetokounmpo dominated the entire game, dropping 13 of the Bucks' 39 first-quarter points to give Milwaukee a nine-point edge after one.

Holiday followed suit with 14 first-half points and five dimes after scoring just four against the Cavs two nights earlier. He hit a big corner three early in the second quarter:

The opening minutes of the second quarter also saw Antetokounmpo get hit in the face by Knicks big man Nerlens Noel, who was assessed a flagrant foul.

Antetokounmpo stayed in the game, however, and he made sure that everyone knew he was just fine with this powerful slam:

Giannis had 17 points at halftime and added nine more in the third. He galloped through the key for this slam dunk in that frame:

Meanwhile, Holiday kept up his torrid scoring pace, hitting a silky baseline floater over Knicks center Mitchell Robinson.

Despite their efforts, the Bucks led by just two points early in the fourth quarter.

That's when Giannis led Milwaukee on a run that effectively put the game away. A quick seven points, capped by this three-pointer, put Milwaukee up 102-93:

When he wasn't dropping buckets, he was doing literally everything else, including somehow finding Grayson Allen with this incredible pass for a three that put the Bucks up 105-94:

The Knicks cut the lead to eight points with under four minutes left in the fourth quarter, but Antetokounmpo put the game away from the free-throw line down the stretch.

In the end, the Bucks put the Cleveland loss in the rearview mirror and came out hot against the Knicks to put themselves back in the win column.

Knicks Hang Tough But Can't Keep Pace in 4th

The Knicks entered Friday in the midst of an ugly 1-5 stretch that included three home losses, including one to the 18-30 New Orleans Pelicans.

New York averaged just 97.8 points per game over its last six contests, a stretch symbolic of the team's season-long offensive woes (No. 23 in offensive rating).

The Knicks fared far better offensively against the Bucks through three quarters, scoring 88 points and hanging tough with the defending NBA champions despite Antetokounmpo having yet another stellar game.

The problem was the Knicks couldn't hang with the superior Milwaukee side for four quarters, as everything fell apart in the final frame.

At this point, the Knicks will have to take some moral victories if they can't consistently manage real ones, and there were some to point to on this evening.

Barrett continued his scoring splurge, albeit on an off-shooting night. He entered Friday averaging 23.3 points per game in his last nine contests and appears to have taken a significant leap in his offensive development.

He hit a big three-pointer near the end of the first half to keep the Knicks within striking distance:

Fournier appeared to bust out of an ugly slump that saw him score just 8.5 points per game on 33.3 percent shooting in his last four contests. He scored eight points in the first quarter thanks in part to two threes:

Fournier even got this circus shot to go in the third quarter:

Some of the Knicks' younger players also put in work. Quentin Grimes stayed hot from three (3-of-7) and scored 11 first-half points.

And Obi Toppin continues to be a human-highlight reel:

But their collective efforts weren't enough as the Knicks failed to keep pace with the Bucks.

Friday certainly proved to be a tall order on the road against an NBA title contender, and the Knicks fared well for most of the game. But this matchup also showed how far this team has to go to compete on a consistent basis with the league's best.

What's Next?

The Knicks will host the Sacramento Kings on Monday at 7:30 p.m. ET in Madison Square Garden. Milwaukee will welcome the Denver Nuggets into town on Sunday at 7 p.m.

Video: Giannis Brings Bucket of Wings to Press Conference After Loss vs. Cavaliers

Sometimes after a long night of playing professional basketball for an NBA team, you just want to kick back with some chicken wings to relax.

Ah, but you have your postgame media obligations to attend to, so what to do? Well, if you're Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, you just bring those wings to the press conference:

Look, nobody's going to tell a two-time MVP and the defending champion to wait a few minutes before chowing down.

He did his part in the team's 115-99 loss to the up-and-coming Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday, scoring 26 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field to go along with nine rebounds, three assists and a steal.

"This is not the Cleveland we knew over the past few years," Antetokounmpo told reporters after the loss. "They have a good team, and we have to respect them more. They're a playoff team, and are fighting for the title themselves."

So yeah, maybe Giannis was eating his feelings a little bit after not only losing but being on the end of this Evan Mobley highlight:

Let the man eat his wings. It was a tough night.

Bucks' Grayson Allen Suspended After Injuring Bulls' Alex Caruso on Flagrant Foul

The NBA suspended Milwaukee Bucks guard Grayson Allen for one game after his flagrant-2 foul on Chicago Bulls guard Alex Caruso on Friday, Jan. 21.

"We disagree with the suspension," the Bucks said in a statement. "We support Grayson and look forward to him rejoining our team for Friday’s game vs. New York.”

The foul in question occurred midway through the third quarter of the Bucks' 94-90 home win over the Bulls.

As Caruso was going up for a layup, Allen leaped to defend the shot and collided with the guard midair. He also hit Caruso's head with his left hand as the Bull was falling to the ground.

Allen got ejected. Caruso was shaken up but eventually finished the game. However, the Bulls announced the next day that he would be out six-to-eight weeks with a fractured right wrist.

Allen has a history of dirty play, notably tripping players on three occasions during the 2016-17 season while he was at Duke. The Blue Devils suspended him for one game.

Bulls head coach Billy Donovan alluded to Allen's past when commenting to reporters following the Bucks game:

The following day, Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports reported that the NBA was reviewing the play. K.C. Johnson of Yahoo Sports provided more information:

In the end, the NBA decided that further punishment was necessary for the four-year NBA veteran, who has averaged 11.8 points and 3.4 rebounds per game this year.

Allen sat out the Bucks' 133-127 win over the Sacramento Kings on Saturday with a left hip injury. The Bucks' next game is Wednesday at the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Report: Grayson Allen's Flagrant Foul on Alex Caruso Being Reviewed by NBA

The NBA is reviewing Milwaukee Bucks guard Grayson Allen's Flagrant 2 foul on Chicago Bulls guard Alex Caruso, who is out six-to-eight weeks with a fractured right wrist as a result of the play.

Per Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports, no decision has been made yet. K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago also provided more information:

Caruso was driving for a layup in the third quarter of his team's 94-90 road loss the Bucks on Friday. Allen ran back to play defense but collided with Caruso midair before hitting him in the head on the way down to the court.

Caruso finished the game and told reporters afterward that his wrist was sore. Unfortunately, the official diagnosis could keep him out for two months.

It's a big blow to a Bulls team that will already be without point guard Lonzo Ball for six-to-eight weeks with a meniscus tear in his left knee.

Allen's foul also drew the ire of Bulls head coach Billy Donovan, who said the Bucks guard's actions could have ended Caruso's career:

Caruso is in his first year with the Bulls after four seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers. He's averaging 8.4 points, 3.9 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game.

Bulls' Billy Donovan Calls out Grayson Allen for 'Dangerous' Foul on Alex Caruso

Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan did not hold back when discussing Milwaukee Bucks guard Grayson Allen's flagrant-2 foul on Bulls guard Alex Caruso Friday.

K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago provided Donovan's thoughts on the play as well as Allen, who was ejected in the third quarter of the Bucks' 94-90 home win:

Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer also provided his take:

Caruso was initially shaken up after the hard fall, but he was able to finish the game. He told reporters afterward that he was a little banged up and had a sore wrist. X-rays turned out to be negative.

The guard didn't have any comments in response to Donovan's remarks, most notably about his coach saying that Allen "has a history of this." A reporter asked if Allen came to check on Caruso, to which the Bulls guard said he did not.

Allen, a former Duke star, was suspended from the basketball team in Dec. 2016 after he was caught tripping a player for the third time during the 2016-17 season.

Referees ejected Allen from a summer league game for back-to-back flagrant fouls while he was with the Grizzlies.

Ricky O'Donnell of SB Nation provided a full breakdown of Allen's past history in a July 2019 piece with accompanying videos.

Allen's NBA image has been cleaner than the one at Duke, but his former reputation might be resurfacing after his midair collision with Caruso.

The Milwaukee Bucks earned a 94-90 home win over the Chicago Bulls at Fiserv Forum on Friday.

Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo led his team with 30 points and 12 rebounds. Bulls wing DeMar DeRozan's 35 points led all scorers.

Neither team shot the ball well, with the Bucks (38.2 percent from the field) and Bulls (36.5 percent) combining to make just 13-of-69 three-pointers.

This game was ultimately a defensive fight to the finish.

The Bulls had the ball in the final minute with a chance to tie or take the lead down 92-90, but a DeRozan three-point attempt with 23.3 seconds left was off the mark.

Bucks wing Khris Middleton grabbed the rebound and knocked down two free throws for a four-point lead after a Coby White foul.

Chicago missed three shots on its final possession to end the game.

The 28-16 Bulls were missing two key stars in Lonzo Ball (left meniscus tear) and Zach LaVine (left knee injury). They have now lost five of six.

The 29-19 Bucks have won two straight.

Giannis Guides Bucks Through Ugly Win

Despite playing a shorthanded Bulls team at home, the Bucks were down four points early in the fourth quarter after a Matt Thomas three-pointer.

Points were hard to come by for anyone not named Giannis Antetokounmpo—a fact made clearer when shooting guard Grayson Allen was ejected in the third quarter after committing a Flagrant-2 foul on Alex Caruso.

Simply put, the Bucks needed their two-time MVP (and reigning Finals MVP) to bail them out of a rock fight, and he did just that in the fourth quarter.

Antetokounmpo scored 10 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter, including what ended up being the game-winning bucket as he executed a reverse layup behind the basket that conjured up images of Julius Erving in the 1980 NBA Finals:

Other big buckets included a dunk to immediately answer the Thomas three-pointer. He also later hit a floater for a 76-74 lead and knocked down a pullup jumper for a 79-76 edge.

He also came up clutch on defense, swatting a Caruso bucket in transition for one of his two blocks:

Along the way, Antetokounmpo joined some great company in franchise history:

This wasn't a pretty victory for the defending champions, but a win is a win, and the Bucks will take any of them that they can get as they find themselves in the middle of a packed race for first in the East.

DeRozan Nearly Wills Bulls to Victory

Chicago faced a near-impossible task Friday.

First, they were without Ball and LaVine, who have combined for 37.9 points, 10.2 rebounds and 9.3 assists per game this year.

Those two are a big reason why the Bulls, who went 31-41 and failed to even qualify for the play-in tournament last year, are right there in the race for the Eastern Conference's No. 1 seed.

Second, they were facing the defending NBA champions, who had the services of their big three of Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday.

Credit to the Bulls for even making this a game, with the result in doubt until the final half-minute. They played excellent defense that puzzled the Bucks all night, and the Bulls would have won this one with some better shooting down the stretch.

This game ultimately came down to DeRozan, the Bulls' remaining perimeter star sans LaVine and Ball. He nearly led Chicago to the win as he knocked down mid-range jumpers and routinely got to the free-throw line all evening.

DeRozan finished the night hitting 9-of-18 field goals and 17-of-18 free throws. This effort to close the third quarter gave him 27 points on the night:

He also got a little unlucky down the stretch, as he had his toe on the three-point line while knocking down a long-range jumper late in the fourth to cut the Bucks' lead to 87-83:

But he kept grinding away at the Bucks, hitting a pair of free throws twice and finding Nikola Vucevic for a three-pointer in the middle of those shots.

On a night where DeRozan and Vucevic were the only Bulls to score more than 11 points, the Bulls were one made three-pointer away from being up one with 23 seconds left.

Alas, DeRozan's shot was off the mark, leading to a moral victory for the Bulls instead of a real one in the standings. Still, their valiant effort shows that they can perhaps weather the storm until LaVine and Ball make their returns.

What's Next?

Milwaukee will host the Sacramento Kings on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET. The Bulls will visit the Orlando Magic on Sunday at 6 p.m. in Amway Center.

In a potential NBA Finals preview, the Milwaukee Bucks bested the Golden State Warriors 118-99 on Thursday at Fiserv Forum to move to 27-17 on the season. The victory helps Milwaukee keep pace with the Eastern Conference's best, including the Chicago Bulls, Brooklyn Nets and Miami Heat.

It was an impressive win for the Bucks and a great steppingstone after entering having lost four of their last five games. Everything was clicking for Milwaukee on Thursday night, and it will look to keep that momentum going moving forward.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Strengthens MVP Case

MVP, just maybe.

There is no one quite like Antetokounmpo, and the 27-year-old strengthened his MVP case on Thursday night with a triple-double against the Warriors, which was his third of the season.

He is just the second player in NBA history to average at least 25 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in three different seasons, joining Oscar Robertson, and would become the only player in league history to do it four times if he keeps pace this season.

Amid Curry's shooting slump, Antetokounmpo has risen in the NBA MVP race. According to Basketball Reference, he is the favorite to take home the hardware with a 28.1 percent probability. Nikola Jokic has the second-best chances at 19.6 percent.

Antetokounmpo previously won the MVP award during the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons. During the 2018-19 campaign, the Greek Freak averaged 27.7 points, 12.5 rebounds, 5.9 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.5 blocks. He followed that up averaging 29.5 points, 13.6 rebounds, 5.6 assists, one steal and one block during the 2019-20 season.

For comparison, the five-time All-Star entered Thursday averaging 28.4 points (third in the NBA), 11.4 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.4 blocks per game.

While it's early to be crowning an MVP, Antetokounmpo will seemingly lock up the award if he continues to be consistent, which shouldn't be too difficult if Milwaukee goes on a streak following Thursday's massive win over Curry, another MVP candidate, and the Warriors.

However, Reggie Miller noted that Curry "still feels like" the leader in the MVP race, which means the award is really anyone's for the taking right now.

Warriors' Shooting Slump Continues

The Warriors are in the midst of their worst stretch of the 2021-22 season. Not only have the Dubs been struggling defensively, but they seemingly can't make a shot.

Golden State entered Thursday's game having shot less than 43 percent in each of its last four games, including below 24 percent from distance. Those numbers hit new lows against Milwaukee.

The Warriors' shooting woes were more prevalent in the first half as they were shooting less than 30 percent and entered halftime down 77-38.

However, things didn't get much better in the second half as the team finished 33-of-95 (34.7 percent) from the field and 16-of-48 (33.3 percent) from deep.

One player that's particularly struggled over Golden State's last few games is Curry. The two-time MVP is in a rare shooting slump, entering Thursday's game shooting just over 31 percent and just over 20 percent from deep in his last four games.

Curry also entered shooting a career-low 42.0 percent from the field and 38.4 percent from three-point range through 37 games this season. Before the 2021-22 season, he had never shot below 40 percent from deep.

But while Curry is in this uncharacteristic stretch, it doesn't seem to be bothering him. In fact, he told reporters before Thursday's game against the Bucks that he's not necessarily frustrated with his current percentages, but the team needs to do a better job of opening up the floor to make shots.

Kerr also addressed the team's scoring issues following Tuesday's loss to the Grizzlies, saying exactly what Curry said about simplifying things and getting more people open for simple buckets.

"I think just as a team, if we simplify our shot process of really trying to move the ball, to really trying to get a great shot, it'll help our whole team and it'll help Steph," Kerr said

Golden State's shooting woes go beyond Curry, and the team definitely has a lot to figure out, but it won't be difficult for the Dubs to catch fire again. Curry is one of the best shooters in NBA history, Thompson is finally back on the court and Andrew Wiggins will once again find his footing.

If the team can't figure things out quickly, it'll fall further behind the Phoenix Suns in the Western Conference standings. However, this slump likely won't continue, and it's only a matter of time before the Warriors pick up the pieces and put the puzzle back together.

What's Next?

The Warriors will be on the road to face the Eastern Conference-leading Bulls on Friday, while the Bucks will host the Toronto Raptors on Saturday.

DeMarcus Cousins will reportedly be looking for a new home soon.

Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported that the Milwaukee Bucks intend to waive the veteran center in a move that will afford the team some roster flexibility. Charania added that Cousins is expected to garner interest as a free agent.

"We wouldn't have been able to get through this difficult stretch of the season as successfully as we did without DeMarcus. ... He was so good for us and hopefully we helped him too," Bucks general manager Jon Horst told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Cousins finished with 15 points, 10 rebounds and three steals in 20 minutes off the bench in Milwaukee's 117-111 loss to the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday. He entered the game averaging 8.7 points and 5.5 rebounds in 16.7 minutes through 16 games with the Bucks.

Cousins had played less than 20 minutes in each of the previous five games. Milwaukee has employed Bobby Portis as its starting center, and he returned from a four-game absence on Christmas Day.

An 11th-year center out of Kentucky, Cousins was once one of the best frontcourt players in the NBA. The four-time All-Star averaged over 20 points and 10 rebounds for five straight seasons from 2013-14 to 2017-18.

But Cousins' career took a devastating turn when he suffered a torn Achilles in January 2018. He later tore his left ACL and missed the entire 2019-20 season. He hasn't been able to regain his All-Star form since then, though he has shown flashes of still being a productive player when healthy.

The next franchise Cousins lands with will be his seventh. He started out his career with the Sacramento Kings before being traded to the New Orleans Pelicans. He also had stints with the Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers.

Bucks' Giannis on Missing Time with COVID-19: 'Selfishly, I Think I Needed the Break'

Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo confirmed he tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this month while speaking with reporters following Saturday's 117-113 win over the Boston Celtics.

And while he missed playing, the reigning NBA Finals MVP acknowledged he may have needed the time off.

"I'm not going to lie: I enjoyed it," Antetokounmpo said, per ESPN's Jamal Collier. "Selfishly, I think I needed the break. But at the end of the day, when you turn on the TV and see your teammates ... guys out there fighting to try and win a game, you're like, 'Man, you want to be out there.'"

The two-time MVP had been in the NBA's COVID-19 health and safety protocols since Dec. 14 and didn't return until Saturday.

Antetokounmpo missed five games while in health and safety protocols. The Bucks went 3-2 in his absence.

Though he missed more than a week of action, he noted that he did not lose his sense of taste or smell while he was sidelined.

"I got too big of a nose. I can smell everything," he joked.

Antetokounmpo was one of many players to be placed in health and safety protocols over the last month. Kevin Durant, Luka Doncic and Bradley Beal are among the stars who have entered protocols recently.

The 27-year-old got off to a slow start against the Celtics on Saturday, finishing the first half with just seven points as the Bucks went to the locker room down 62-47. However, he came alive and took over the second half, finishing the game with 36 points, 12 rebounds and five assists to lead Milwaukee back from a 19-point deficit.

It's been more of the same for Antetokounmpo this season. Entering Saturday, he ranked fourth in the league in scoring (27.0 points per game) and fifth in rebounding (11.6 rebounds per game).

Thanks to Antetokounmpo's efforts, the Bucks are third in the Eastern Conference with a 22-13 record as they seek their second straight Finals appearance.

The return of Giannis Antetokounmpo from the NBA's health and safety protocols was one of the main storylines for the NBA's slate of Christmas Day games, even if Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum did everything they could to play the Grinch.

Antetokounmpo wasn't about to see Milwaukee's cheer disrupted, however. He went off for 36 points, helping the Bucks secure a 117-113 win over the Boston Celtics.

Brown and Tatum were excellent, combining for 50 points. Not even a chipped tooth Brown suffered during the game slowed him down:

But Milwaukee's 43-point third quarter changed a contest that didn't feature much in the way of defense and helped come all the way back from what was a 19-point deficit. The Celtics answered every Milwaukee punch with one of their own until late in the fourth quarter, as the Bucks didn't hold a lead until just 30 seconds remained.

The Celtics went scoreless in the game's final minute and 17 seconds and didn't make a bucket in the final three minutes and 21 seconds.

It was business as usual for Antetokounmpo in his first appearance since Dec. 13 after missing five straight games, handing the Bucks (22-13) their third straight win.

He wasn't the only Milwaukee player making a return—Donte DiVincenzo made his first appearance of the season on Saturday.

Boston (16-17) moved back under .500, meanwhile, in another blow for a team trying to right the ship during an up-and-down season.

You Didn't Actually Think Giannis Would Be Rusty, Did You?

The Greek Freak doesn't do rust. He does this, though:

Oh, and this:

He's just built different.

The Bucks were a manageable 3-2 without him during this recent stretch. But on Saturday, everyone was reminded of Antetokounmpo's value.

Not that anyone needed the reminder.

Peyton Pritchard Continues To Shine Off The Bench

Brown and Tatum may have led the way, but Boston needed Pritchard's 16 points and five assists off the bench. The second-year man is emerging as an important role player for the Celtics, with double-digit points in three of his past four outings.

For a Celtics team with Dennis Schroder, Josh Richardson, C.J. Miles, Justin Jackson, Sam Hauser, Grant Williams, Aaron Nesmith, Enes Freedom and Bruno Fernando all in the health and safety protocols, Pritchard's recent performances have been huge. It was telling that he found himself getting minutes deep into the fourth quarter.

Even when the Celtics have a fuller complement of players, it's going to be hard to keep Pritchard out of the rotation.

What's Next?

The Celtics will look to rebound when they travel to Minnesota to face the Timberwolves at 8 p.m. ET on Monday. The Bucks travel to Orlando to face the Magic on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET.
