Dustin Johnson will have to wait until at least September to collect his first individual title in the LIV Golf International Series.

Johnson shot three under in the final round to finish at nine under and tied for second with Matthew Wolff. The 38-year-old did come out victorious in the team portion of the tournament as 4 Aces GC cruised to victory.

Through two rounds, Johnson was in second place at six under but still had his work cut out for him. Henrik Stenson was alone atop the leaderboard at nine under.

It didn't take long for the gulf between the two to widen. Johnson bogeyed the opening hole, while Stenson birdied No. 1. That made the road back for the two-time major champion even tougher, and he couldn't mount much of a challenge the rest of the way.

Birdies on Nos. 6 and 8 did little to improve Johnson's overall position on the front nine. He narrowly missed an eagle on the sixth hole, which could've changed the complexion of his round.

Another birdie for Johnson followed on No. 11, and Stenson answered with a birdie of his own on No. 14. Stenson's bogey on the 15th hole came too late to alter the outcome.

A stretch of six straight pars on the back nine by Johnson opened the door for Matthew Wolff to overtake him for second place. Wolff surged up the standings thanks to his seven-under 64.

Birdieing No. 18 meant Johnson ended Sunday exactly where he began it.

The International in Bolton, Massachusetts, is the next stop for LIV Golf. The fourth event of the 2022 season will tee off on Sept. 2.

Day 2 of LIV Golf Invitational Bedminster took place at Trump National Golf Club in New Jersey, and Dustin Johnson is in the mix for the individual and team crowns.

The two-time major champion sits second at six under after shooting a two-under 69 on Saturday. Tournament leader Henrik Stenson leads the field at nine under.

Johnson's shotgun start landed him on the second hole to begin the second round of the three-day tournament, which concludes Sunday. He notched birdies on the fourth and sixth holes before dropping a stroke on the par-three seventh.

DJ later took advantage of the par-five holes on the back nine, registering birdies on Nos. 15 and 18. Johnson posted a bogey on the 16th, but he finished his last (No. 1) with a par to cruise into solo second.

Johnson captains 4 Aces GC, and that crew leads the team competition after posting 20 under through two rounds. Majesticks GC, which is captained by Lee Westwood and paced by Stenson this week, sits second at 15 under.

The quartet of DJ, Patrick Reed, Talor Gooch and Pat Perez is looking for its second straight team competition win after taking down LIV Golf Invitational Portland last time out.

Johnson started the day tied for fourth at four under. 4 Aces GC led after Day 1 at 11 under thanks to Reed, who ended Friday tied for the tournament lead with Stenson at seven under.

Gooch's seven-under 64 served as the Aces' top score Saturday, while Johnson did second-best on the team. Reed and Gooch are tied for third at five under alongside Turk Pettit and Carlos Ortiz.

The third and final day will begin Sunday at 1:15 p.m. ET with a shotgun start. Johnson will be looking for his first LIV individual crown after taking solo eighth in London (one under) and a tie for third in Portland with Reed at nine under.

Dustin Johnson delivered a solid performance during the first round of competition in the LIV Golf Invitational Series at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster, but he sits just outside the top three on the leaderboard.

Johnson sits tied for fourth with Carlos Ortiz after finishing Round 1 four under par. He said after Friday's first round that he was happy with his performance.

Johnson carded three birdies and two bogeys on the front nine, struggling on the fifth and seventh holes. He sat one-under par through nine holes, and had a much better performance on the back nine, adding three more birdies to close out Friday's action.

This is Johnson's third event in the LIV Golf Invitational Series. He finished tied for seventh in LIV Golf's inaugural event at Centurion Golf Club in London and tied for third place at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in Portland.

Johnson left the PGA Tour for LIV Golf after receiving a deal worth around $125 million, according to James Corrigan and Tom Morgan of the Telegraph (h/t Ryan Glasspiegel of the New York Post).

That money is in addition to any money he wins throughout the invitational series. The winner of each even receives $4 million.

Johnson will look to capture hold of the lead in Bedminster when he tees off again on Saturday. Henrik Stenson and Patrick Reed currently share the lead at seven-under par, while Phachara Khongwatmai is in second at five-under.

LIV Golf Portland 2022: Dustin Johnson, Carlos Ortiz Tied for Lead After Round 2

Dustin Johnson and Carlos Ortiz are tied for first following the second round in the LIV Golf International Series event at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, Oregon.

Branden Grace is two shots back in third, with Justin Harding in fourth at five under. Brooks Koepka is one of five golfers tied for fifth at four under.

After the first round, Ortiz was one shot ahead of Johnson. The tables quickly turned as Johnson went five under on the front nine.

Ortiz managed to remain within striking distance, and that proved beneficial as Johnson sputtered toward the end of the round.

Ortiz grabbed a share of the lead with a birdie on No. 18 before making his way to the clubhouse. Johnson had an opportunity to reclaim sole possession of first place but watched his birdie putt roll left.

Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau are making their maiden voyage with LIV Golf at Pumpkin Ridge.

Starting from the second hole, Koepka double-bogeyed No. 3 to get his round started on the wrong foot. He quickly righted the ship with birdies on Nos. 5 and 8. The four-time major champion then caught fire down the stretch. Birdies on the 14th and 15th holes were followed by an eagle on No. 17, which put him only one shot off Johnson.

Just when Koepka was rolling, he found the water with an approach on No. 18. A bogey knocked him back into third, and his bad luck continued as a double-bogey might have removed him from the title hunt.

DeChambeau, who didn't do enough to recover from an even-par 72 on Thursday, isn't having a memorable LIV debut. He's three under for the tournament, and closing the five-shot gap on Johnson and Ortiz will be difficult.

Charl Schwartzel won LIV Golf's inaugural tournament outside of London in June, so joining the breakaway tour has already been a success. His odds of going back to back were dealt a big blow when he went two over Thursday. A one-over 73 added to his lackluster showing.

Phil Mickelson looked rusty in his return to competitive golf at Centurion Club when he finished 34th in the 48-man field. Then he missed the cut in the U.S. Open.

Mickelson's fortunes haven't improved much at Pumpkin Ridge. He's tied for 34th at five over.

Pat Perez earned himself a new fan on the 11th hole. His approach sailed to the right and struck a member of the gallery. After sinking his par putt, Perez made it up to the fan.

Thanks to the efforts of Johnson and Perez, 4 Aces GC has a solid lead in the team standings. At 15 under, they're four shots up on Stinger GC.

The third round will get underway with a shotgun start at 1:15 p.m. PT.

Dustin Johnson Tied for Lead at LIV Portland Event Entering Final Round

Dustin Johnson was poised to be in the driver's seat before falling back into a tie for the lead with Carlos Ortiz at the LIV Golf Invitational Series event at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, Oregon.

Johnson and Ortiz are sitting at eight under, two shots ahead of Branden Grace in third place.

Johnson wasn't much of a factor in LIV's inaugural event outside of London in June. He opened with a one-under 69 and finished in eighth place. Friday was a return to form in the first half.

Through nine holes, the 38-year-old was already at five under for the round.

With a birdie on No. 12, it looked like Johnson would effectively have one hand on the title before Saturday's round even got started.

Then things began to unravel. He bogeyed three of the next four holes as the gap on Ortiz shrunk to one shot. An impressive par save on No. 17 spared him a worse fate, and it proved especially important when Ortiz birdied No. 18.

The winner at Pumpkin Ridge will earn a cool $4 million. Johnson, who has won more than $74.4 million over his PGA Tour career, might be padding his bank account further Saturday.

Former world No. 1 golfer Dustin Johnson is off to a strong start in his second outing for the LIV Golf Invitational Series.

Johnson shot four-under 68 in the first round of LIV Golf Portland and trails leader Carlos Ortiz by one stroke.

Johnson opened the round with a birdie and recorded four more on the fifth, ninth, 11th and 13th holes. He had played a clean round until hole No. 18, when he closed the round with a bogey.

Johnson is in second place, one stroke ahead of Hideto Tanihara, Branden Grace and Pat Perez.

Elsewhere on the leaderboard, Brooks Koepka is tied for sixth at two-under. Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Reed sit tied for 13th after finishing at even par. Phil Mickelson struggled with a three-over 75 and is tied for 31st.

Adam Hadwin has the early lead at the 2022 U.S. Open after he shot 66 in the first round on Thursday.

The Canadian sits four strokes under par at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts, one stroke ahead of a crowded field at the top of the leaderboard. Rory McIlroy is one of five players tied for second place, while Dustin Johnson and Jon Rahm are among the big names within striking distance after the first 18 holes.

The major is always one of the most high-profile events of the year, but it has taken on added significance while featuring both PGA Tour stars and those who joined the recently created LIV Golf. It could create a drama-filled week with a $17.5 million purse.

McIlroy was one of the top performers early in the day, impressively saving par from poor positions:

He also had four birdies to move into the solo lead at one point at four under:

McIlroy was nearly bogey-free, but a mistake on his last hole of the day dropped him to three under for the round.

In the afternoon session, all eyes were on Hadwin, as his string of birdies put him into a solo lead.

Hadwin finished with six birdies and scored an impressive 66 to lead the field.

A lot of challengers are just off the lead, as several competitors finished with a 67. Johnson carded four birdies on his way to a two-under finish and remains one of the favorites.

Among those near the lead, defending champion Rahm, 2019 champion Gary Woodland and two-time major winner Collin Morikawa are ones to watch:

All three shot a 69 Thursday and sit three strokes off the lead heading into Round 2.

It wasn't a great day for everyone, as Phil Mickelson struggled on the way to a 78. He was especially bad with his putting in the early going:

The veteran was five over through six holes and didn't improve as the day continued. Fellow LIV Golf competitor Louis Oosthuizen also struggled to a 77.

Tee times begin at 6:45 a.m. ET on Friday as players jockey for position and try to stay inside what could be a high cut line.

LIV Golf London 2022: Charl Schwartzel Wins Record $4.75M; Mickelson Finishes 10 over

Charl Schwartzel has won the first LIV Golf Invitational Series event, which took place at Centurion Club near London from Thursday through Saturday.

In addition, Stinger GC (Schwartzel, captain Louis Oosthuizen, Hennie Du Plessis and Branden Grace) cruised to the team win by shooting a combined 20 under, or 14 shots better than second-place finisher Crushers GC (led by captain Peter Uihlein).

Schwartzel won $4.75 million for his efforts: $4 million for the individual win and $750,000 for being a member of the victorious team. That's all part of the richest purse in golf history, with $20 million to players and $5 million to teams ($25 million total).

The 2011 Masters winner entered Saturday at nine under after shooting 65-66 on Thursday and Friday. He held a three-shot lead over Du Plessis and a five-shot advantage going into the 12th hole.

However, Schwartzel's double bogey on the par-four 12th hole gave the field some life after he plugged his third shot in the bunker. Du Plessis had a good look at birdie for a potential three-shot swing but could not convert.

Du Plessis did cut the lead to two after parring the 14th, while Schwartzel bogeyed the same hole. Both players parred the next three holes.

Schwartzel bogeyed the 18th while Du Plessis parred, but there wasn't much drama on the last as the eventual winner just needed to tap in to finish seven under for the tournament.

Du Plessis took second at six under. Grace finished tied for third with Peter Uihlein after the latter player ended with a birdie. Grace had the best round of the day at five under.

Sam Horsfield rounded out the top five at three-under.

The biggest names in the field posted varying results.

Two-time major winner Dustin Johnson finished eighth in the 48-golfer field at one under. He shot even-par or better on all three days. Only nine golfers shot even-par or better overall.

Johnson's team, 4 Aces GC, finished fifth at two under.

Meanwhile, Phil Mickelson struggled after a strong one-under start Thursday. He shot a five-over 75 Friday before following that up with a six-over 76 Saturday to finish 10 over. Mickelson's team, Hy Flyers GC, finished 10th in the 12-team field (12 over).

Other notables included Sergio Garcia (T22, six over), Oosthuizen (T10, one over) and Graeme McDowell (T10, one over).

LIV Golf will head to Portland, Oregon's Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club for another three-day event beginning June 30.

Dustin Johnson finished in eighth place in the inaugural LIV Golf tournament at Centurion Club near London on Saturday.

DJ shot an even-par 70 in Saturday's third and final round, putting him at one under for the tournament, six shots behind winner Charl Schwartzel.

Johnson entered the final round in a tie for fifth at one under after shooting an even-par 70 in the second round as well.

The odds were stacked against him entering the third round in terms of challenging for a win, but he got off to a hot start with a great approach on his first hole:

There weren't many more highlights to speak of for DJ the rest of the way, though, as he hovered around the even-par mark and inside the top 10 during the round but never posed a threat to the leaders.

Still, there was plenty of interest in Johnson's performance given that at No. 15, he was the top-ranked player in the world to play in the first LIV Golf event.

Johnson's inclusion on the entry list for the LIV Golf London Invitational caused a stir, and he has made it clear ever since then that he is committed to LIV Golf.

DJ announced his resignation from the PGA Tour earlier this week, and after his round on Friday, he declared his plans to only play LIV Golf and major events in the future:

As the 2016 U.S. Open champion and 2020 Masters champion, Johnson has an exemption into the majors even if he remains off the PGA Tour.

In addition to being one of LIV Golf's top players and biggest stars, Johnson has apparently been playing the role of recruiter.

PGA Tour veteran Pat Perez announced during Saturday's broadcast that he had signed with LIV Golf, and he admitted that his friendship with Johnson played a big role, as DJ wanted Perez on his team:

It has been a big week for LIV Golf, as in addition to holding its first event and signing Perez, it announced the defection of both Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Reed from the PGA Tour.

That means the level of competition is set to get tougher this season, and fan interest has a chance to increase as well.

As for Johnson, he got off to a solid start but will look to be more of a factor near the top of the leaderboard in future events.

Dustin Johnson in 5th Place, 1 Under Par Through 2 Rounds of LIV London Debut

Dustin Johnson had an inconsistent day in the second round of LIV Golf's inaugural event at Centurion Club in London.

After posting a one-under-par 69 on Thursday, Johnson finished even par in the second round. He heads into the final round tied with three other players for fifth place, trailing leader Charl Schwartzel by eight strokes (-9).

Johnson's standout moment of the day came on his 13th hole. His second shot landed 10 feet away from the hole, leaving him with an easy eagle putt that moved him into sole possession of fourth place.

Aside from that moment, Johnson wasn't particularly sharp on the course Friday. He needed four shots to get on the green on his first hole. The 2020 Masters champion was one over par for the tournament after making a double-bogey.

Johnson's second-hole tee shot landed in the tall grass. His attempt to save it failed when the ball landed on the green before rolling off. He eventually wound up three over par for the day (+2 overall) and eight shots off the lead.

The South Carolina native did eventually find a groove that got him back under par. His first birdie came on the seventh hole, and he nearly had a second one on his eighth hole, but the ball rolled just past the cup.

Johnson also missed an easy birdie putt on No. 10 after getting on the green in two shots. His best run of the round started at No. 12 when he made birdie, followed by the eagle that moved him two under par for the round.

After hitting two bogeys that dropped him back to even par for the round, Johnson had an opportunity to get back under par on the final hole. He couldn't quite convert on his birdie attempt, leaving him to settle for par and a 70.

The final round will get underway at 9 a.m. ET. Johnson has had occasional moments in which he's played up to his usual high standards. He will need to put it all together for 18 holes to make a big move up the leaderboard.
