Wyatt, McMahon Reportedly Clashed Before WWE Release

Prior to his shocking release last summer, Bray Wyatt reportedly clashed with then-WWE chairman, CEO and head of creative Vince McMahon.

According to Fightful Select (h/t H Jenkins of Ringside News), one WWE talent said Wyatt and McMahon had issues with each other personally, which spilled over into the workplace.

The anonymous talent said Wyatt would criticize the creative direction of his character at times, leading McMahon to retaliate by criticizing his physique.

McMahon and those close to him reportedly felt that Wyatt had a "bad attitude," and rumors about Wyatt were allegedly started to "ease the heat off" WWE for its decision to release him.

A WWE higher-up reportedly told Fightful that McMahon had "reservations" when the possibility of bringing back Wyatt was mentioned following his release.

Things have changed significantly in recent weeks, though, with McMahon retiring and getting replaced by three different people.

His daughter, Stephanie McMahon, is now chairwoman and co-CEO, while WWE president Nick Khan is the other co-CEO. Also, Triple H has been elevated to vice president of talent relations and head of creative.

Since Triple H took the reins, he has brought back several Superstars who were released over the past year, including Dakota Kai, Karrion Kross, Scarlett and Dexter Lumis.

Because of that, the assumption is he would be more willing to bring Wyatt back than McMahon would have, especially since they worked closely together to develop the original Wyatt character in NXT.

Wyatt is the biggest name available on the free-agent market currently, and his return would generate a ton of buzz for WWE at a time when there is growing excitement surrounding the product.

Triple H clearly hasn't had any qualms about signing wrestlers who McMahon wasn't enamored with, so it seems certain that the chances of Wyatt returning to WWE have increased significantly.

Top Dolla, Adonis Reportedly Scheduled to Attend SmackDown

Two members of Hit Row are reportedly expected to be present for Friday night's episode of SmackDown in Raleigh, North Carolina.

According to Fightful Select (h/t Jenkins), Top Dolla and Ashante Thee Adonis are "actively planned" to be at SmackDown, although it isn't clear if they will be on television or how they will be used.

Top Dolla and Adonis were part of the Hit Row stable with Isaiah "Swerve" Scott and B-Fab, and after making waves in NXT for much of 2021, they were called up to the main roster on SmackDown in October 2021.

B-Fab was shockingly released shortly after the group debuted on SmackDown, followed by the rest of the stable getting released two weeks later in November 2021.

Scott eventually signed with AEW, and he is currently one half of the AEW world tag team champions with Keith Lee under the name Swerve Strickland.

While most considered Swerve to be the leader of Hit Row due to the fact that he had enjoyed the most success in wrestling among those in the group, it could potentially still thrive without him.

Top Dolla and Adonis would add some much-needed depth to the tag team division, and although she hasn't been mentioned as potentially appearing on SmackDown, B-Fab would be an ideal manager if she returns as well.

That trio could make some headway on SmackDown, and there could always be the possibility of another wrestler being brought in to replace Swerve's spot in the stable.

Triple H gave Hit Row a huge push during their time in NXT, so it comes as little surprise that he may be trying to bring them back into the fold now that he is the head of WWE creative.

WWE Higher-Ups Approved Punk's Pipe Bomb Promo

On the June 27, 2011, episode of Monday Night Raw, CM Punk cut one of the most famous promos in the history of pro wrestling.

Dubbed the "Pipe Bomb Promo," Punk aired his grievances with WWE, made disparaging remarks regarding Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon and Triple H, and made reference to wrestling outside the WWE Universe, including Ring of Honor.

Punk also divulged that his WWE contract was expiring and vowed to defeat John Cena at Money in the Bank and take the WWE Championship with him. Punk did beat Cena, but he ultimately re-signed with WWE and remained with the promotion for about two and a half more years before leaving in early 2014.

The Pipe Bomb Promo has been lauded by fans for years because it came off as a shoot rather than a scripted promo like most of WWE's other segments, but a prominent former WWE writer confirmed this week that the power players in WWE knew what Punk was going to say before he went through the curtain.

Appearing on the Ariel Helwani Show (h/t Subhojeet Mukherjee of Ringside News), Brian Gewirtz discussed the famous promo:

Gewirtz noted that while there were real elements to the promo and Punk likely expressed legitimate gripes, McMahon knew what was going down.

The former writer said McMahon had a version of the script in front of him and gave clearance for Punk to rant. Gewirtz added that Punk ad libbed to some degree by sitting rather than standing and saying things a bit differently than they may have been scripted, but he mostly stuck to what had been discussed.

Only a small handful of promos are consistently mentioned by fans as the best of all time, and there is no question that the Pipe Bomb Promo belongs in that conversation.

It ultimately didn't change things to Punk's liking, as he was gone from WWE less than three years later, but it reinvigorated part of the fanbase and undoubtedly aided in keeping Punk relevant years after his WWE departure to the point that he is now one of AEW's top stars and the reigning AEW world champion.

WWE Rumors on Vince McMahon Banning Shane; Paul Heyman's Future; CM Punk Talks Injury

Details on Shane-Vince Falling out Made Public

Shane McMahon's involvement in the 2022 Royal Rumble was nothing short of a disaster. Reports from behind the scenes said he attempted to heavily rewrite the match script—making himself look better in the process—to the point it alienated several wrestlers behind the scenes.

McMahon has not been seen on WWE television since. If departing WWE CEO and father to Shane McMahon, Vince McMahon, had his way, it would stay that way.

Fightful Select reported the elder McMahon said Shane "would never get another pop in this company as long as I’m around."

Well, you may have heard Vince McMahon is no longer around. That said, the company has largely been handed off to Stephanie McMahon and Triple H, with the former co-CEO'ing with Nick Khan and the latter handling talent relations and creative.

Shane McMahon and Triple H have not always gotten along swimmingly, and Stephanie seems dedicated toward pushing her father's martyr narrative forward. It seems unlikely, then, that we'll see Shane McMahon in a WWE ring anytime soon.

For those who watched the 52-year-old in his latest WWE run, we'll just say that's probably for the better.

Paul Heyman to Land Bigger Role?

Concern regarding his at-times blunt nature aside, it's always felt like WWE was underselling Paul Heyman by having him simply work as a mouthpiece. There have been times when he's been the head of creative during his tenures at WWE, and those have largely been creative successes that were ultimately foiled by backstage politics.

Heyman most recently served as the executive director of Raw from June 2019 to June 2020 before he was dismissed from that role and returned back to a managerial capacity. In an interview with Ariel Helwani, Heyman said the decision was made entirely by Vince McMahon—who, again, we must stress is no longer around to meddle in these affairs.

Wade Keller of PW Torch reported Heyman could wind up with some creative input again with Vince out of the picture.

"As I’ve talked about in recent months, it seems like to people that have seen them that Heyman and Stephanie get along," Keller said. "You know like, genuinely, there’s a chemistry and a dynamic between them that’s very positive. And that’s very different than you know, 15-20 years ago. So, Heyman is someone to watch. He’s really, really smart. And he is a wrestling guy.”

The more Heyman input on the WWE product, the better. While he does have some questionable impulses—please, no more of whatever that Mike-Maria Kanellis storyline was—he's a wrestling savant who may still be the best talent evaluator in the business.

Heyman working in concert with Triple H on a revamped product sounds like an IWC fever dream.

CM Punk Still Has No Timetable for Return

It does not sound like we'll be seeing CM Punk back in an AEW ring anytime soon.

The AEW champion appeared at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend and said he's still experiencing pain in his foot, which he categorized as "shattered" at the time he underwent surgery.

"It's healing. It's not healed," Punk said. "It feels like it's on fire every day, partly probably because of how much you know I was on my feet all day yesterday. I just don't wear the boot, but that's mostly because I want people to recognize that I don't want them near my foot. I'm working hard to come back; It's just, it's a s--tty injury you know, not being able to walk and like my entire calf on that side kind of shut down so learning how to walk again is f--king frustrating, but I'm better than I was yesterday, I'll be better tomorrow, and hopefully I'll see everybody soon."

Tony Khan would not commit to Punk being available for September's All Out pay-per-view when asked about his status over the weekend.

Jon Moxley was crowned interim AEW world champion at last month's Forbidden Door pay-per-view and would likely headline All Out with Punk should he be able to return.

WWE Rumors on Edge, Judgment Day; CM Punk Talks Injury; Cody Rhodes Pushes Raw Rating

Reported Reason for Removing Edge from Judgment Day

Edge's removal from the Judgment Day stable on Monday's episode of Raw reportedly may have had something to do with a disagreement regarding the direction of the group.

According to Fightful Select (h/t WrestlingInc's Kellie Haulotte), WWE wanted to take a "supernatural route" with Judgment Day, but Edge was against the idea.

WWE had reportedly planned well ahead of time for Finn Balor to join Judgment Day, but the decision to have him replace Edge as the group's leader reportedly wasn't made until hours before Raw went on the air.

After Edge, Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley beat Balor, AJ Styles and Liv Morgan in a six-person tag team match at Hell in a Cell, Judgment Day vowed to add another member on Raw.

Balor announced that he had seen the light and wanted to align himself with Judgment Day before Priest talked about getting rid of the weak link, which led to him and Balor attacking Edge.

Judgment Day was first formed at WrestleMania 38 in April when Priest helped Edge beat Styles. Then, at WrestleMania Backlash, Ripley joined the group by helping Edge defeat Styles again.

Now, it looks like Edge is set to transition back to a babyface role after his brief heel run, and the circumstances surrounding the sudden switch have left some fans confused.

Although the route to the switch may have lacked logic to some degree, it could turn out to be the best possible move for all involved.

Balor will now have the opportunity to lead his own heel group, while Edge can be a top babyface while Cody Rhodes is out with a torn pec.

Being a face is likely the best role for Edge given all he overcame to get back to WWE, and it shouldn't take much of the fans to embrace the Hall of Famer once again.

Punk Discusses Injury, Interim Title Decision

In a YouTube video posted Tuesday, AEW world champion CM Punk discussed the injury that will keep him out of action for the foreseeable future.

On last week's episode of Rampage, Punk announced that he suffered an injury that would require surgery, meaning he would be unable to defend the AEW world title. It was clarified after the promo that Punk would not be relinquishing the title, and instead, an interim champion would be determined.

In Tuesday's video (h/t WrestlingInc's Sai Mohan), Punk expressed gratitude for AEW for allowing him to remain champion while healing, as well as for the wrestlers and fans for supporting him:

Punk also divulged a discussion he had with AEW president Tony Khan, saying: "I probably wasn't as clear as I should have been. I offered to relinquish the title and Tony told me that under no circumstances was I allowed to do that."

After Punk made his announcement, Khan laid out the plans for the interim AEW World Championship in a press release.

On Wednesday's episode of Dynamite, the winner of a battle royal will face Jon Moxley, and the winner of that match will move on to Forbidden Door where they will face the winner of Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Hirooki Goto at New Japan Pro-Wrestling's Dominion.

The winner of the match at Forbidden Door will be the AEW interim world champion, and they will eventually face Punk to determine a definitive champion.

Punk ascended to the top of AEW at Double or Nothing less than a year after making his AEW debut, as he defeated "Hangman" Adam Page for the AEW World Championship.

Raw Ratings Up After Rhodes' HIAC Performance

WWE Raw experienced a significant bump in viewership on Monday, and Cody Rhodes may have been a big reason why.

Rhodes courageously fought through a torn pectoral muscle at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view on Sunday, beating Seth Rollins in a Hell in a Cell match.

Cody opened Raw with a promo before getting interrupted by Rollins, who shook his hand. Rollins later returned with a sledgehammer and attacked Rhodes, likely writing him off television so he can undergo surgery.

Per Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline, Raw had its best viewership numbers in the first hour, which is when Rhodes was featured.

Additionally, Raw did an average of 1.87 million viewers and a 0.52 rating in the 18-49-year-old demographic, which were both major bumps from the previous week.

Compared to the Memorial Day episode of Raw, Monday's edition was up 25 percent in viewers and 24 percent in the 18-49 demo.

Meltzer noted that the numbers marked Raw's best since the post-WrestleMania episode of Raw in April.

It was also reported by Meltzer that Raw was second only to the Western Conference Finals NHL playoff game between the Colorado Avalanche and Edmonton Oilers in almost every major demographic, except 18-49-year-old women, which Raw won.

The challenge for WWE moving forward will be maintaining those numbers for Raw, especially since Rhodes is likely to be off television for months while he recovers from the torn pec.

Further showcasing established stars like Rollins, Bianca Belair, Edge, Becky Lynch and others could help, as could featuring undisputed WWE universal champion Roman Reigns on the show, or bringing in part-timers like Brock Lesnar or John Cena, the latter of whom is scheduled to appear on the June 27 Raw.

CM Punk to Undergo Surgery on Undisclosed Injury; AEW Will Name Interim World Champ

Jun 4, 2022

Just days after winning the AEW World Championship, CM Punk announced Friday on Rampage he'll have to take time away from the company to undergo surgery on an undisclosed injury.

Punk, 43, confirmed he's planning to eventually return and "prove exactly why I'm the best in the world":

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvsZ0hVlM8U?

ESPN's Marc Raimondi reported AEW will crown an interim champion while the Chicago native is on the mend. A battle royal will be held Wednesday on Dynamite for a shot to face Jon Moxley for one of the spots in the main event at the Forbidden Door pay-per-view on June 26, where the interim belt will be up for grabs.

It's a disappointing turn of events for Punk, who made his long-awaited return to wrestling last August and put together entertaining feuds with the likes of MJF and Darby Allin before getting a shot at the company's top title.

He was likely set for an extended run as AEW world champion, as each of the first four title-holders—Chris Jericho, Moxley, Kenny Omega and "Hangman" Adam Page—held the belt for at least six months.

Given that, he'll probably be the heavy favorite to win the unification match upon his return and embark on his expected title run.

Punk didn't provide information about his recovery timetable, likely in order to retain the surprise element for his eventual comeback.

Meanwhile, the good news for AEW is its roster features plenty of depth, giving the company ample options to carry the load while Punk is rehabbing.

Along with Moxley, it wouldn't be a surprise if MJF is thrown into the mix, as his current anti-establishment storyline is gaining serious traction. Wardlow, who defeated MJF at Double or Nothing, is also a star on the rise.

The biggest question is whether AEW would prefer to go with a more established option like Mox or use this opportunity to elevate a new face to the top of the card.

It'll be intriguing to watch the situation play out leading up to Forbidden Door later this month.
