Patrick Vieira believes his former Arsenal team-mate will succeed as manager of Monaco and prevent the club being relegated from Ligue 1.

Vieira, who is in charge of Nice, faces Henry's Monaco in league action on Wednesday. It's the first managerial meeting between two of Arsenal's greatest-ever players.

While Henry has struggled since replacing Leonardo Jardim back in October, Vieira thinks the 41-year-old will turn things around, per Richard Cooke of Sky Sports: "I believe that he will find a way to get the best out of his players and be successful."

Henry has struggled to get the mix between youth and experience right, as well as having to deal with a myriad of injuries. Monaco, who won the Ligue 1 title as recently as 2017, are second from bottom in the French top flight, four points clear of safety. They've also failed to register a home win.

Beating Riviera rivals Nice at home will be key, even if it comes at the expense of Vieira. The pair won two Premier League titles and three FA Cups as stalwarts of Arsenal's golden era under Arsene Wenger.

They also lifted the FIFA World Cup for France in 1998, as well as experiencing victory at UEFA Euro 2000.

Vieira admitted it will be "strange" going up against Henry, but he also conceded "we are both really excited about it."

The former Juventus, Inter Milan and Manchester City midfielder also reserved special praise for the man who used to play ahead of him for the Gunners. Vieira put Arsenal's record goalscorer alongside the greatest names in his country's history: "I would put him in the same level as [Zinedine] Zidane, Raymond Kopa or Michel Platini."

Henry hasn't hit the same heights in his maiden foray as a senior manager, and Vieira will be hoping to inflict more misery. Vieira needs the win, even though he has Nice a respectable eighth and just two points off a place in the top five.

However, trouble could be brewing for the ex-New York City FC boss after Nice's president and general manager revealed they will both leave the club imminently. The Guardian's Nick Ames said there were differences between the men who hired Vieira and the club's owners.

Ames also named Barnsley's Gauthier Ganaye as a candidate for a "senior role" in a new-look executive structure. The potential arrival will likely expect Vieira to make a strong early impression.

Vieira has also had to deal with temperamental striker Mario Balotelli, with rumours growing things have become fractious between manager and player.

Henry could be welcoming his fellow Arsenal icon to the Stade Louis II at just the right time. Even so, he has said they will have to put their affinity on hold for this crunch encounter:

While Henry needs the points, the rules of Ligue 1 seem set to work against him. He won't be able to field new signings Naldo, Fode Ballo-Toure and another former Arsenal ace, Cesc Fabregas.

The trio are ineligible because this is a rearranged fixture after fuel protests caused its postponement back in December. Henry said the rule "must be respected," per Monaco's official website (h/t Eurosport).

While Fabregas, who joined from Chelsea earlier this month, will miss out on Wednesday, his performances could save Monaco from the drop. The astute playmaker's technique and eye for a defence-splitting pass make him a creative fulcrum Henry can build both a team and style of play around.

His arrival is also viewed by some as an endorsement of what Henry brings as a manager, despite his inexperience:

Henry would no doubt prefer to kickstart Monaco's survival bid against a manager with whom he doesn't share so much favourable history. Yet both he and Vieira are smart enough to know they each need a result from this intriguing Cote d'Azur derby to prove to their doubters they can be successful for the long haul.

Thierry Henry Talks Up 'Interesting' Michy Batshuayi

Jan 11, 2019

Thierry Henry discussed his familiarity with Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi within the context of AS Monaco adding more players during the January transfer window.

Former Belgium assistant coach Henry described Red Devils international Batshuayi as "a player who can be interesting," per Sky Sports News.

However, Henry also said any interest Monaco might have in the 25-year-old is far from concrete: "Nothing is done. You have to be patient. It's important that players know the championship, though."

Knowing about life in the French top flight isn't a problem for Batshuayi. He came to fame at Monaco's rivals Marseille, leaving the club to move to Chelsea in 2016.

He has largely struggled in west London, despite ending his first season by scoring the goal that clinched the Premier League title for the Blues. Subsequent loan spells at Borussia Dortmund and Valencia haven't improved Batshuayi's standing.

Los Che general director Mateu Alemany said on Thursday that Batshuayi's loan will end early, per BBC Sport. It will bring to an end a disappointing spell:

Batshuayi's exit from La Liga could present an opportunity for Henry, who coached the striker for Belgium under Roberto Martinez. Monaco are already thought to be working on a deal to sign a second Chelsea player in the winter market:

The Ligue 1 side announced the arrival of Batshuayi's Chelsea team-mate Cesc Fabregas on Friday:

Pairing Fabregas' vision and technique with a prolific striker could end Monaco's relegation worries in Ligue 1. The club is second from bottom and has an obvious need for a player with Batshuayi's pace and power to lead the line.

Henry has been relying on a combination of youth and experience up top, The latter quality is provided by 32-year-old Radamel Falcao, who appears past his prolific best.

Meanwhile, 19-year-old Moussa Sylla and 23-year-old Rony Lopes are attacking midfielders being tasked to play up front.

Batshuayi's recent form doesn't suggest he can be the answer to Monaco's woes in the final third. However, he did respond well to life in France, scoring 17 league goals during his final season for Marseille.

Batshuayi also hasn't had a player as adept at creating chances as Fabregas supplying him recently. Joining Monaco to work with a manager who knows him and a former team-mate who can get the best out of him would be the perfect tonic for Batshuayi's ailing career.

AS Monaco have confirmed the signing of Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas, who has agreed a contract with the Ligue 1 side until June 2022.

Fabregas, 31, made his final appearance for Chelsea in the 2-0 FA Cup win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday, and Monaco have now confirmed his arrival on the French Riviera, per the club's official Twitter account:

The Spaniard was largely consigned to the Blues bench following the arrival of manager Maurizio Sarri, who preferred £50 million summer-signing Jorginho. The Italy international followed his former Napoli boss to Stamford Bridge and became a key part of the first XI.

The move to Ligue 1 sees Fabregas link back up with former Arsenal team-mate Thierry Henry, who took over at the helm of the French club in mid-October. Monaco are in a fight to avoid relegation to Ligue 2, although Henry has improved the side somewhat since then to win three of their last eight games in all competitions—they also beat Rennes on penalties in the Coupe de la Ligue quarter-final.

Fabregas leaves England for a second time and has made a combined 504 appearances for Chelsea (198) and Arsenal (306). He will now hope to recapture some of his former first-team impact at Monaco.

Only one of his six Premier League appearances under Sarri was as part of the starting XI.

However, former Chelsea team-mate Eden Hazard paid huge praise to the playmaker after Fabregas captained the team to victory over Forest on Saturday, via HaytersTV:

The midfielder teared up after he was substituted off late on in that win, which came on the same day Sky Sports reported Henry was close to securing the signing of his old Emirates Stadium comrade.

Fabregas reflected on his life in football and gave the impression he was about to close a significant chapter in his career when he spoke after Saturday's win, per Chelsea's official website:

"It feels like it was last week I started playing professionally, and now it is over 15 years.

"It is a long time, but for the young players when they start playing, my little advice is to enjoy it every single second because it goes so fast. In football you have to be ready every three days, you have to live with criticism, you have to live with everyone saying how good you are—up and downs—and you just think I am young, I have time, but time really does fly, so enjoy every single second of it."

This will be Fabregas' first venture outside the Premier League or La Liga, where he represented boyhood club Barcelona between 2011 and 2014.

Monaco are 19th in Ligue 1 and four points adrift of safety reaching the halfway point in their season, and if utilised correctly, Fabregas could become a vital tool in helping the team pull off an escape before May.
