San Francisco Giants CEO Larry Baer and his wife, Pam, have been cooperative with law enforcement in the wake of their physical altercation on March 1.

Per TMZ Sports, Larry and Pam have met with the San Francisco Police Department as part of the investigation.

TMZ obtained the footage that showed Larry pulling Pam to the ground and yelling at her while trying to grab a cell phone out of her hand (warning: contains profanity):

TMZ noted police spoke with witnesses on the day of the altercation and Larry and Pam agreed to speak with them.

Cris Arguedas, Larry's attorney, said both of them had separate meetings with law enforcement and were fully cooperative.

Arguedas also told TMZ she has "never been more confident" Larry won't be prosecuted.

In an interview with Evan Sernoffsky of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Giants executive said the argument with his wife was about a member of their family.

"My wife and I had an unfortunate public argument related to a family member and she had an injured foot and she fell off her chair in the course of the argument," he said. "The matter is resolved. It was a squabble over a cellphone. Obviously it's embarrassing."

Pam issued a separate statement, via Sernoffsky:

"I would like to clarify the events of today. My husband and I had an argument in public about which we are quite embarrassed. I took his cell phone. He wanted it back and I did not want to give it back. I started to get up and the chair I was sitting in began to tip. Due to an injury I sustained in my foot three days ago, I lost my balance. I did not sustain any injury based on what happened today. Larry and I always have been and still are happily married."

Larry announced on March 4 he was taking a leave of absence from the Giants. MLB is also investigating the situation and he could be subject to suspension under the league's domestic violence policy, per ESPN's Jeff Passan

The Giants promoted Larry to CEO on Jan. 1, 2012. He has been part of the team's current ownership group since 1992.

TMZ Sports released video Thursday showing San Francisco Giants outfielder Cameron Maybin getting arrested early on Friday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence.

After his blood-alcohol content was measured at 0.14 (the legal limit is 0.08), Maybin was informed that he was being arrested. At that point, Maybin began crying and apologizing, saying, "I'm really sorry."

Maybin admitted to drinking five glasses of wine earlier in the night and said he tried to sleep it off by napping for an hour at his friend's house before getting behind the wheel.

Maybin's arrest occurred in Scottsdale, Arizona, which is where the Giants are located during spring training. After the arrest, the Giants released a statement that read, "We are aware and are monitoring the situation, and we have no further comment at this time."

Maybin, who is a non-roster invitee, has continued to appear in spring training games for the Giants since the arrest.

The 31-year-old veteran released a statement of his own on the incident and apologized to all of those who were impacted by it:

If he makes the Giants roster, Maybin would enter his 13th MLB season, and San Francisco would be the eighth different team he has played for during the regular season.

In 129 games split between the Miami Marlins and Seattle Mariners last season, Maybin hit .249 with four home runs, 28 RBI and 10 stolen bases. With the Los Angeles Angels and Houston Astros the previous season, the speedster swiped 33 bags, which was the second-highest total of his career.

Maybin has an impressive pedigree as the No. 10 overall pick in the 2005 MLB draft, and he has managed to hang around Major League Baseball for a significant amount of time.

Considering the three outfielders who are currently penciled in to start for the Giants this season (Chris Shaw, Steven Duggar and Austin Slater) all have under 100 career at-bats at the major-league level, Maybin has a legitimate chance to make the team, even in the wake of his arrest.

Giants' Cameron Maybin Arrested on Suspicion of DUI; Mugshot Released

Mar 5, 2019

San Francisco Giants outfielder Cameron Maybin was arrested Friday morning in Scottsdale, Arizona, on suspicion of driving under the influence, per NBC Sports Bay Area

"We are aware and are monitoring the situation and we have no further comment at this time," the Giants said in a statement.

KTAR.com provided more details on the arrest:

"According to the police report, Maybin was stopped by police around 2 a.m. after he was observed driving approximately 60 mph in a 40 mph zone and swerving. When he was pulled over, authorities observed signs of impairment, including bloodshot and [watery] eyes and smell of alcohol, with Maybin.

"Maybin told police he was at Oceans 44 near Scottsdale Road and Goldwater Boulevard, where he had five 'pretty big' glasses of wine, and was heading to meet his agent at a hotel. He was arrested after he failed several walking tests. At the time of the arrest, Maybin had a blood alcohol content of 0.142 percent, nearly twice the legal limit."

Despite the arrest, Maybin appeared in the team's spring training games over the weekend.

The 31-year-old signed a one-year, $1.75 million minor league contract with the Giants in February after hitting .249 with four homers and 28 RBI in 129 games between the Miami Marlins and Seattle Mariners last season.

He's battling for an outfielder role during spring training with players Steven Duggar, Chris Shaw, Mac Williamson, Mike Gerber, Austin Slater, Gerardo Parra and Yangervis Solarte.

San Francisco Giants CEO Larry Baer is taking a leave of absence after video surfaced last week in which he wrestles an object away from his wife, Pam Baer, and knocks her to the ground.

John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle shared the team's press release on Baer's leave:

According to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle, "Giants officials spent part of the weekend holding internal discussions on how to proceed."

Per Schulman, the executive team that will handle Baer's role in his absence will be led by president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi, along with four executive vice presidents: Alfonso Felder, Mario Alioto, Jack Bair and Staci Slaughter.

Schulman added: "Not immediately clear is who will become the Giants' 'control person,' the owner that Major League Baseball recognizes as the person authorized to represent the team in league decisions. Also not clear is who in the organization will work with president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi on roster decisions."

Pam Baer said in a statement she had taken her husband's phone, and when he tried to take it from her, the chair she was sitting on tipped over, and a previous foot injury prevented her from regaining her balance, per ESPN.com.

The Baers said in a joint statement that they were "deeply embarrassed by the situation and have resolved the issue."

Larry Baer also apologized in a separate statement Friday.

"I am truly sorry for the pain that I have brought to my wife, children and to the organization," he said. "It is not reflective of the kind of a person that I aspire to be, but it happened, and I will do whatever it takes to make sure that I never behave in such an inappropriate manner again."

A video has been released showing San Francisco Giants CEO Larry Baer knocking his wife, Pam Baer, to the ground during an apparent argument.

TMZ Sports obtained the footage in which Larry pulls Pam to the ground and yells at her while trying to grab something out of her right hand (warning: contains profanity):

Major League Baseball is looking into the matter, per ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Passan added MLB's domestic violence policy applies to front-office personnel, making Baer subject to a fine and/or suspension pending final results of an investigation.

"The presence of the videos offers concrete evidence, and without nearly as much, MLB has levied significant suspensions on players," Passan wrote.

Per Matthias Gafni and Evan Sernoffsky of the San Francisco Chronicle, a worker in the area provided the video footage after saying he witnessed the situation unfold.

Per TMZ Sports, the person who shot footage of the altercation got involved to help break it up and police weren't called to the scene. The witness told TMZ the object Larry was trying to get from Pam was a cellphone.

Pam issued a statement through her attorney about the situation, via Sernoffsky:

Speaking to , Larry confirmed the argument was about a family member.

"My wife and I had an unfortunate public argument related to a family member and she had an injured foot and she fell off her chair in the course of the argument," he said. "The matter is resolved. It was a squabble over a cellphone. Obviously it's embarrassing."

Larry released another statement through the Giants on Friday evening.

"I am truly sorry for the pain that I have brought to my wife, children and to the organization," he said, according to NBC Sports Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic. "It is not reflective of the kind of person I aspire to be, but it happened and I will do whatever it takes to make sure that I never behave in such an inappropriate manner again."

Baer is part of the Giants ownership group that purchased the franchise in August 1992. He has been the team's CEO since 2012.

The San Francisco Giants continue to attempt to convince Bryce Harper to sign with them.

Per Kerry Crowley of the San Jose Mercury News, Giants CEO Larry Baer and president Farhan Zaidi met with Harper and agent Scott Boras in Las Vegas on Tuesday.

Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reported the Giants have discussed a 10-year deal with Harper.

Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reported the Giants are optimistic in landing the star:

Teams still in the mix have been sending key executives to meet with the 2015 National League MVP in Las Vegas.

Philadelphia Phillies owner John Middleton used his private plane to meet with Harper on Feb. 22. Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed to MLB.com's Ken Gurnick that a team contingent, including himself, CEO Stan Kasten and president Andrew Friedman, were in Las Vegas on Sunday night.

CBS Sports HQ's Jim Bowden said (h/t CBSSports.com's Cody Benjamin) whenever Harper signs his deal, it will be worth more than the $300 million Manny Machado received from the San Diego Padres

Harper's free agency has carried over into the start of spring training. The 26-year-old is looking to cash in after he posted a .279/.388/.512 slash line in seven seasons with the Washington Nationals from 2012 to 2018.

The 2019 season will be the 25th straight year Bruce Bochy will be an MLB manager, but it will also apparently be his last.

"I will be retiring after the season," the San Francisco Giants skipper said Monday, per the team's official Twitter account.

"In my mind, it's time," he added, per Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area.

Bochy enters the year with 1,926 regular-season wins with the Giants and San Diego Padres, winning three World Series titles with four total pennants.

According to Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times, he could reach the top 10 of all-time wins with 83 more this season. This could be enough to reach the Baseball Hall of Fame, especially combined with his World Series titles.

The 63-year-old first became a manager for the Padres in 1995, taking over a franchise that had just one playoff appearance in its first 26 seasons and was only 47-70 the year before in a strike-shortened season.

Bochy took the group to the playoffs just two years later and got to the World Series in 1998 before falling to the New York Yankees.

He remained with the Padres until 2006, accumulating 951 wins.

The Giants came calling in 2007, and once again he turned a losing team into a winner. The team won three titles in five years from 2010-14, and he has now won 975 games in 12 years in San Francisco, plus 36 more in the playoffs.

After a disappointing 73-89 record in 2018, Bochy will hope the latest news will motivate the Giants to turn things around and go on one more deep playoff run before he calls it quits.

Bryce Harper Rumors: Giants to Offer 'Lucrative' Short-Term Contract to Star

Feb 11, 2019

The San Francisco Giants are reportedly on the hunt for Bryce Harper.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Giants "plan to offer Harper a lucrative short-term deal, but have no desire to provide a long-term contract approaching the 10-year, $300 million contract Harper rejected from the Washington Nationals in September."

Nightengale also reported that "one high-ranking rival executive boldly predicts the Giants will ultimately sign the 26-year-old star."

Signing Harper would be a departure from San Francisco's offseason plans to this point. As Nightengale noted, the team was prioritizing getting younger and more athletic and had only spent $9 million in free agency. The Giants were also listening to trade offers for their older players and reportedly hadn't even engaged with Harper until last week.

While teams like the Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago White Sox, Nationals and San Diego Padres have been linked to Harper throughout the offseason, the Giants would be a surprising new contender and, at the very least, will provide the slugger with a bit more leverage in negotiations.

Of course, the Giants and the Bay Area are hoping to be more than just leverage. Even Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr made his pitch to Harper:

"Bryce, come to the Giants," he said. "Let's go!"

"We want to be able to pursue players to bring championships back to the Giants' fans," Giants president Larry Baer said at the team's FanFest, per Nightengale. "Bryce Harper is an amazing player. It's very hard, these are competitions, and I can't handicap it."

One factor remaining in these negotiations will be where Manny Machado signs and which of the two players comes to a contract agreement first and sets the market. For teams like the Phillies, Machado would be the consolation prize for potentially missing out on Harper and vice versa. In that way, the fact that both remain unsigned provides some leverage to teams, who can simply take their best offer to both players.

Thus far, however, Machado and Harper haven't blinked either. It's a high-stakes game of chicken, one that threatens to last into spring training.

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr knows something about winning championships in the Bay Area, and he made his pitch to MLB free-agent outfielder Bryce Harper.

"That would be fun," he told reporters when asked about the possibility Harper could sign with the San Francisco Giants. "I would love it if Bryce Harper came here. Does my opinion count here? Bryce, come to the Giants. Let's go."

Even MLB got in on the fun, joking it fined the NBA coach:

Kerr's comments come after Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi confirmed the team met with Harper in his hometown of Las Vegas, per Maria Guardado of MLB.com:

"There is obviously mutual interest on both sides. We thought it made sense to get together. We had a good conversation over a few hours. He's obviously got a lot of suitors and a lot of interest. He's going to have some decisions to make. I think it's fair to say that was an expression of our interest level, to make the trip out there to meet with him."

Harper has a National League MVP and six All-Star Game nods on his resume and would be an ideal addition for a team that has trended in the wrong direction of late.

While the Giants won the World Series in 2010, 2012 and 2014, they have made the playoffs just once since and finished with a 73-89 record last year. They were also 29th in the league in total runs in 2018 and could use a bat like Harper's in the order to rectify those numbers.

Kerr clearly saw the fit.

Bryce Harper Rumors: Giants 'Very Impressed' by Star After Free-Agent Meeting

Feb 9, 2019

The San Francisco Giants recently joined the Bryce Harper sweepstakes and left their meeting with the 2015 National League MVP "very impressed," according to Jon Heyman of Fancred.

That comes after San Francisco president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi let it be known the team has serious interest in the outfielder.

"There's obviously mutual interest on both sides, so we thought it made sense to get together," Zaidi said, according to USA Today's Jesse Yomtov. "We had a good conversation over a few hours and he's obviously got a lot of suitors and a lot of interest. He's going to have some decisions to make, but again I think it's fair to say that was an expression of our interest level to make the trip out there and meet with him."

Of course, it would be foolish for a franchise to not want a player of Harper's caliber on its roster.

Harper hit .249/.393/.496 with 34 home runs, 34 doubles and 100 RBI in 2018. While his average may have been lower than normal, he finished the season strong by hitting .300 after the All-Star break.

That second-half tear was ignited by an unforgettable performance in the 2018 Home Run Derby in front of the hometown crowd in the nation's capital:

Along with an MVP award and a Derby title, Harper has earned six All-Star selections, the 2012 NL Rookie of the Year award and a 2015 NL Silver Slugger. That's quite the resume—and he's only 26.

Meanwhile, San Francisco has missed out on the postseason in back-to-back years and won just 73 games in 2018. The offense ranked 29th both in runs scored and in home runs. With spring training right around the corner, the Giants' outfield is shaping up to consist of Chris Shaw, Steven Duggar and Austin Slater.

San Francisco may have to engage in a bidding war if it wants Harper. The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reported on Friday that Harper is seeking $300 million, with the Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres among the teams also interested.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported in November that Harper had rejected a 10-year, $300 million offer from the Washington Nationals in September.
