When Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields drops back to pass this season, he'll be throwing to...

Wait, there's...

Um, what about...

Who's that again?

No one really knows, which is a problem. A big problem. The Bears must add to their wide receiver room, especially after the injury to N'Keal Harry.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported Harry underwent tightrope ankle surgery Thursday, which will likely cost him eight weeks. Harry isn't a proven commodity after being traded by the New England Patriots because he was a first-round disappointment, but he at least presented depth and some potential.

Darnell Mooney is an excellent, young target. The 24-year-old is coming off his first 1,000-yard campaign with the chance to build on a strong sophomore performance. But today's game is predicated on 11 personnel. Last season, teams had at least three wide receivers on the field for 62 percent of the league's total snaps, according to Sharp Football's Warren Sharp.

In what appears to be offseason malpractice, Chicago's new regime of first-time general manager Ryan Poles and head coach Matt Eberflus didn't prioritize building the offense around their supposed franchise quarterback.

Instead, the team's top two draft picks addressed the secondary. The Bears passed on wide receivers Wan'Dale Robinson, Tyquan Thornton, George Pickens, Alec Pierce and Skyy Moore to draft cornerback Kyler Gordon and safety Jaquan Brisker. In a vacuum, Poles drafted two quality players. At the same time, those receivers are all performing well during training camp and could provide instant offense to their respective teams.

The Bears waited until the third round to snag Velus Jones Jr., traded for Harry and signed Byron Pringle as a free agent. Even the latter move was overshadowed by the team's biggest offseason signing of defensive lineman Justin Jones. Pringle inked a one-year, $4.1 million prove-it deal. Besides, he's dealing with a quad injury and hasn't practiced this week.

Meanwhile, Fields is holding up his end of the bargain. According to reporter Jordan Schultz, the staff, including offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, have been "blown away" by their quarterback. A source told Schultz: "His mechanics have improved. He's in great shape. He works at it and he really cares. Luke loves him."

The quarterback may be showing drastic improvement, but it'll be for naught if he lacks the weapons to orchestrate the offense.

Opportunities still exist to improve Fields' surrounding cast. The Bears took this approach when they signed left tackle Riley Reiff and guard Michael Schofield at the start of training camp. They can do so again by bringing in a veteran wide receiver (or two) to provide a competent passing attack. Four possibilities jump to the forefront.

Some may view the acquisition of a Odell Beckham Jr. as a pipe dream. Maybe it is. He's a veteran who likely wants to play for a winning franchise. But he has a Super Bowl ring after the Los Angeles Rams' run to a championship, and the Bears have three factors working in their favor: money, market and targets.

The Bears have one of the league's highest amounts of salary-cap space at $15.7 million, per Spotrac. Next year, Chicago owns a whopping $89.2 million in cap space—the most of any team by $40 million—before any further moves are made. Beckham can get the type of deal he wants after the Rams supposedly lowballed him earlier this year while giving the Bears a true No. 1 wide receiver.

Chicago remains the nation's third-biggest media market (after Beckham previously played in the top two) with a passionate fanbase.

Granted, Beckham won't be ready for the start of the regular season after suffering a torn ACL in Super Bowl LVI. However, the Bears can invest now. In doing so, they're guaranteeing a top target for Fields and someone who dictates coverages. A signing won't come cheap, but Chicago has the means to get it done and plenty of wiggle room to continue the rebuild into next offseason.

T.Y. Hilton

Very little interest has surrounded T.Y. Hilton this offseason. The Indianapolis Colts continue to flirt with the idea of bringing back the player with the franchise's third-most receiving yards.

General manager Chris Ballard told reporters in March:

"T.Y. can still play. Unfortunately he got hurt for half the (2021) season, but T.Y. can still play. One, because he’s about as smart as any player I’ve ever been around. I mean he just understands how to play the game even though his skillset might not quite be the same that it was three or four years ago, his instincts and his level of competence in terms of understanding what’s happening, he knows how to play."

The 32-year-old began last season on injured reserve because of a neck injury. He returned to play in 10 games, though his production didn't reach his previous level. Some of the downturn may be due to wear and tear, but the Colts also relied more on the running game as the season progressed.

As Ballard stated, Hilton can still play. He'd be an ideal mentor to Mooney and a reliable option for Fields.

If a security blanket is what the team wants, few are better than Cole Beasley when working out of the slot.

In each of the last three seasons, Beasley finished second on the Buffalo Bills in receptions. The organization chose to go younger at the position this year with Isaiah McKenzie and Jamison Crowder to man the inside receiver spot.

Beasley's announcement that he would not get vaccinated and fines for protocol violations during the COVID-19 pandemic may not have helped his case when the Bills chose to release the 33-year-old target.

But the league suspended COVID-19 protocols for the 2022 season, which likely makes Beasley's personal status inconsequential.

The 2020 second-team All-Pro brings a defined role to any offense. He's very capable of creating separation in small areas, though he's reached the point in his career where he won't add much after the catch. Even so, the ability to get open and consistently provide an available target is valuable, especially on a team that lacks options.

Will Fuller V

Of those mentioned, Will Fuller V is the youngest at 28 years old with significant upside still remaining. Injuries have always been the bugaboo with the 2016 first-round draft pick.

Last season, the Miami Dolphins signed Fuller to a one-year, prove-it deal. He played in two games before breaking a thumb and being placed on injured reserve.

In Fuller's professional career, he has never played a full slate of games. He's missed 42 regular-season contests through six seasons.

Despite the risk—which exists with every free agent who's available at this juncture—the Bears could use Fuller as a vertical threat. His best season came in 2020 when he managed a career-best 879 receiving yards and led the Houston Texans with eight touchdown receptions. He also averaged 15.3 yards per catch between the 2017 and 2020 campaigns.

Fuller's signing wouldn't require a major investment, but he presents the most potential return on a minimal deal.

Odell Beckham Jr. Hints at Bills Interest in Response to Von Miller IG Post

Odell Beckham Jr. hinted that he might be interested in signing with the Buffalo Bills in an Instagram comment he made under veteran edge-rusher Von Miller's post:

Beckham, who is recovering from a torn ACL suffered during last year's Super Bowl, is a free agent. He and Miller were teammates on the Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams last season.

The 29-year-old wideout had a resurgent second half of the 2021 season with the Rams and quarterback Matt Stafford, catching 27 passes for 305 yards and five touchdowns in eight regular-season games. He added 21 receptions for 288 yards and two touchdowns—including one in the Super Bowl before getting injured—in the postseason.

But Beckham will likely miss a good chunk of the 2022 campaign, meaning his free agency is expected to stretch into the regular season. And after a solid experience with the Rams last season, it seems a safe bet that he'll consider a contending team, whether that means returning to Los Angeles, joining up with the Bills or finding another playoff-bound squad.

The NFL Network's Ian Rapoport noted on Sunday that Beckham has "continued to receive interest from several teams, contending teams."

Among those was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (before they signed Julio Jones), the Green Bay Packers and the Rams.

The Bills, meanwhile, are already loaded on offense behind quarterback Josh Allen, with playmakers like Stefon Diggs, Gabriel Davis, Dawson Knox and Devin Singletary, among others. But bolstering the passing attack for the stretch run with a three-time Pro Bowler like Beckham would make a lot of sense for a Bills team with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations this year.

Beckham had his struggles during parts of three seasons with the Cleveland Browns, no doubt. But he showed with Stafford and the Rams last year that he could be an important piece on a title-winning side.

Odell Beckham Jr. Rumors: Rams, Super Bowl Contenders Interested in Injured FA WR

Odell Beckham Jr. remains a free agent, but it does not appear the three-time Pro Bowler is in a rush to decide on his next team.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported nothing is "imminent" despite Beckham receiving interest from several contenders.

Beckham is not expected to be available early in the season as he recovers from an ACL tear suffered during Super Bowl LVI.

The Los Angeles Rams are expected to pursue bringing Beckham back and may have a bit more urgency with Van Jefferson dealing with a knee injury of his own. Jefferson is expected to miss multiple weeks after undergoing a procedure on his knee last week, though his injury was far less severe than Beckham's.

Rapoport also mentioned the Green Bay Packers as a potential fit. Beckham considered Green Bay before winding up with the Rams last season following his unceremonious exit from Cleveland.

Once one of the NFL's most prolific receivers, Beckham has not made a Pro Bowl since 2016 and clearly lacked elite-level burst after tearing his ACL for the first time in 2020. Beckham reeled in 27 catches for 305 yards and five touchdowns in eight regular-season games with the Rams, eclipsing any single-season TD total he had with the Browns.

Before his disappointing ending to last season, it appeared Beckham was finally finding his way back to prominence in the postseason. He had 21 catches for 288 yards and two scores during the Rams' Super Bowl run, including a touchdown against the Bengals in the Super Bowl.

Rams' Cooper Kupp Doesn't Put Himself in His Top 5 NFL WR; Has Justin Jefferson No. 2

Coming off a historic 2021 season capped off by catching the game-winning touchdown in Super Bowl LVI, Los Angeles Rams star Cooper Kupp has a strong argument as the best wide receiver in the NFL.

Kupp, though, apparently doesn't think of himself as one of the top five wideouts in the league. Appearing on I AM ATHLETE (starts at 2:00 mark), the 29-year-old ranked Davante Adams, Justin Jefferson, Stefon Diggs, Ja'Marr Chase and Odell Beckham Jr. as the five best players at the position.

If you believe that where an athlete ranks himself should be ironclad and not subject to change, Kupp has opened himself up to scrutiny from people who keep track of these things.

Last month, Jefferson told reporters he is the second-best receiver in the NFL because he has to respect all that Adams has accomplished in his career.

When asked about Kupp, the Minnesota Vikings superstar said he is "good, but I'll say he's behind me."

After getting word of that assessment, Kupp told reporters he respected Jefferson's opinion "and I can also respectfully disagree."

It's hard to argue that Jefferson and Kupp aren't among the best players at their position. Jefferson has racked up 3,016 yards and 17 touchdowns on 196 receptions in 33 games over his first two seasons in the NFL.

Kupp has been a solid receiver over the course of his career, but the Eastern Washington alum turned in one of the best seasons in league history last year. He won the receiving triple crown with 145 receptions, 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Per NFL.com's Grant Gordon, the only other players to record at least 100 receptions, 1,500 yards and 15 touchdowns in a season are Jerry Rice (1995), Marvin Harrison (2001) and Randy Moss (2003).

During the Rams' run to the Super Bowl, Kupp added 33 catches, 478 yards and six touchdowns in four playoff games. His final catch of the year was a one-yard touchdown that put the Rams up 23-20 over the Cincinnati Bengals with 1:25 remaining in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl.

If that's not enough to make Kupp one of the five best wideouts in the league, what is?

MMQB: 'Door's Open' for Odell Beckham Jr. to Return to Rams amid Van Jefferson Injury

The Los Angeles Rams have set up contingency plans at wide receiver given Van Jefferson's knee issues.

According to Albert Breer of The MMQB, "Jefferson's knee issues were a reason the Rams brought in Allen Robinson in March" during free agency.

But with Jefferson leaving practice Saturday and set to see a specialist for his knee, Breer wrote that "very clearly, the door's open for [Odell Beckham Jr.] to come back, with the hope that his most recent ACL surgery will bring a more positive result than the last one did. So the Rams have plenty of options at the position. They'll be fine."

Beckham, 29, thrived in his short time with the Rams last season, catching 27 passes for 305 yards and five touchdowns in eight regular-season games while adding 21 catches for 288 yards and two scores in the playoffs.

One of those touchdowns came in the Super Bowl victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, though Beckham also tore his ACL in that contest, leaving him likely out of action until the midway point of the upcoming season, if not later.

But with Cooper Kupp and Robinson already in tow, the Rams could make a late-season move for Beckham yet again if Jefferson's season is in jeopardy, once Beckham is cleared to play.

Odell Beckham Jr.'s Under-the-Radar Landing Spots After Julio Jones' Bucs Contract

Cross the Tampa Bay Buccaneers off the list of possible suitors for free-agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Tuesday that the Bucs agreed to a one-year deal with Julio Jones.

Between the opportunity to play alongside Tom Brady and Tampa Bay's short-term ambitions, that was an obvious fit for Beckham. Now, his most realistic landing spots are drying up.

A reunion with the Los Angeles Rams has always felt the likeliest outcome, even though the reigning champions signed Allen Robinson II. The Green Bay Packers check all of the boxes as well since they have a legendary quarterback, a championship-caliber squad and a positional need after trading Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Taking those two off the table, the New England Patriots could be in the mix given Beckham's respect for head coach Bill Belichick. The Dallas Cowboys did little to replace Amari Cooper after trading him to the Cleveland Browns. If Beckham is willing to take a backseat like he did in L.A., then the Philadelphia Eagles make a lot of sense too.

Depending on how long the 29-year-old willing to wait, you could even include teams that don't project to be contenders right now but could look a lot different once the season opens.

Neither the Chicago Bears nor Jacksonville Jaguars is expected to do much. However, they each made a coaching change that could significantly benefit a quarterback they hope will be a long-term solution.

If Justin Fields or Trevor Lawrence takes a big step forward, the Bears or Jags might look attractive to an experienced wideout with something to prove. Beckham could put pursuing a second Super Bowl title aside and focus instead on rebuilding his individual value.

In June, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported on Get Up that Beckham may not back to 100 percent from his torn ACL until October or November. Early October would put him coming back in Week 4, and November runs all the way through Week 12.

Signing now would give OBJ some security and allow him to get acclimated to new surroundings if he decides against rejoining the Rams. With seemingly few suitors right now, sitting back for a month or two would allow the landscape to evolve and potentially open new opportunities.

Odell Beckham Jr. Rumors: Rams Hopeful for Deal; Teams Expect WR to Be Ready in Oct.

The Los Angeles Rams are "optimistic" they'll be able to sign veteran wideout Odell Beckham Jr. in free agency, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported on Monday's Get Up.

"But Beckham could take his time here because talking to teams, they don't expect Beckham to be healthy until October or maybe even November, as far as 'full-go' back from that ACL," Fowler added. "So Beckham can take his time, maybe even wait until the first couple of weeks of the season, see who's hot, who needs a receiver. He will likely go to a contender."

Beckham, 29, has had a roller coaster of an NFL career.

He was the 2014 Offensive Rookie of the Year and a three-time Pro Bowler in his early years with the New York Giants, registering four seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards. Beckham caught at least 90 passes, had 1,300 or more receiving yards and notched double-digit touchdowns in each of his first three seasons.

He looked primed for superstardom.

But injuries and a poor fit with Baker Mayfield in Cleveland took his career in a different direction. Since his final season with the Giants in 2018, he's reached 1,000 receiving yards just once and missed 12 games over the 2020 and '21 seasons.

Once again, however, Beckham appeared to turn a new chapter after joining the Rams midway through the 2021 campaign, catching 27 passes for 305 yards and five touchdowns in eight games.

More importantly, he was excellent in the postseason, with 21 catches for 288 yards and two touchdowns in four games, including a touchdown in the team's 23-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI.

It was a bittersweet game for Beckham, however, as he also tore his ACL during the contest. Were it not for that injury, Beckham likely would have commanded a very nice contract in free agency, either for the Rams or elsewhere.

L.A. made contingency plans this offseason, signing Allen Robinson in free agency to pair with Cooper Kupp and Van Jefferson. But Beckham's return later in the season would give Matthew Stafford yet another weapon in the team's quest to repeat as champion, making an eventual reunion for both sides a logical move.
