Asuka vs. Sasha Banks and Top Potential WWE Raw vs. SmackDown Matches

WWE last week announced the brand-to-brand invitational, and it has already led to some unexpected matches on both Raw and SmackDown.
WWE champion Drew McIntyre is set to face King Corbin on Monday's edition of Raw, while NXT women's champion Charlotte Flair will take on her SmackDown counterpart, Bayley, on Friday.
With so much talent on both brands, there are plenty of possibilities for matches that have been seen rarely or never before.
As the brand-to-brand invitational continues to play out, here are three potential matches that the WWE Universe would love to see on Raw.
Asuka vs. Sasha Banks
Asuka became the Raw women's champion last week as her reward for winning the women's Money in the Bank ladder match after Becky Lynch stepped down due to her pregnancy. As a result, The Empress of Tomorrow is now the face of the women's division on the red brand.
It can be argued Bayley holds the same role on SmackDown since she is the champion, but Sasha Banks is perhaps an even bigger star than her friend after playing a significant role in her holding the title for as long as she has.
WWE is building tension between Bayley and Banks, and it reached another level on SmackDown last Friday when Charlotte Flair called out The Legit Boss for being The Role Model's lackey and challenged her to stand up for herself and her own best interests.
A great way to further the issues between Bayley and Banks while also providing fans with an intriguing matchup would be to have them appear on Raw to interrupt Asuka during a promo segment.
The Empress could challenge the SmackDown titleholder to a match only for the champ to throw The Boss under a bus and force her to fight the battle for her.
Asuka and Banks have faced each other in a singles match only once before, and it happened two years ago on Raw. The bout was fantastic and left fans wanting more, but the rematch hasn't occurred to this point.
Doing Asuka vs. Banks would accomplish several goals, including putting the spotlight on The Boss and allowing her to have a great match with one of the best in the business. Also, the Raw titleholder could score a big victory to add credibility to her reign, perhaps by way of botched interference from Bayley.
An alternative option could be Bayley and Banks facing Asuka and Kairi Sane in a tag team match since The Kabuki Warriors are technically still a unit.
That match would have the potential to be the best women's tag team bout in WWE history if given enough time, and any number of storylines could play out in it as well.
Seth Rollins vs. Jeff Hardy
Seth Rollins has established himself as the top heel on Raw, and now that Jeff Hardy is back on SmackDown, he figures to be one of the blue brand's top babyfaces moving forward.
There are clearly some parallels between the two men in terms of their in-ring style, and a contest between them has often been talked about among fans as a dream match between Superstars who reached their peak in different eras.
Both Rollins and Hardy are multi-time world champions in WWE. The latter hasn't held a world title in the company since 2009, while the former was universal champion just last year before dropping it to "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt.
Rollins is coming off a loss to WWE champion Drew McIntyre at Money in the Bank, and he needs some wins in order to get back on track. Meanwhile, Hardy is in the middle of a rivalry with Sheamus.
The Monday Night Messiah's recent actions, including gouging Rey Mysterio's eye with the corner of the ring steps last week, could make him a target for someone like Hardy from a storyline perspective.
The Charismatic Enigma likely has a great deal of respect for Mysterio, and defending his fellow veteran's honor would be a good way to explain the match. It would also be a first-time encounter since Rollins and Hardy have never had a singles match.
A Rollins vs. Hardy match could branch off into multiple angles as well, such as Sheamus interfering to further his feud with Hardy or Murphy interfering on Rollins' behalf, which could lead to another unique bout in Hardy vs. Murphy.
Street Profits vs. New Day
Tag team wrestling isn't always a major focus in WWE, but there is no question that the company boasts several talented tandems across all of its brands.
Two of the best are The Street Profits and New Day, and they just so happen to hold the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Championships, respectively.
New Day have been pure entertainment in their five-plus years together and have established themselves as WWE's go-to team. They have also enjoyed tons of in-ring success with eight championship reigns to their credit.
The Street Profits are still fairly new to the main roster, but they have made their mark with fiery promos and fun backstage segments. It also didn't take them long to capture the Raw Tag Team Championships after previously holding the NXT titles.
Perhaps the biggest argument in favor of The Street Profits vs. New Day is the fact that Montez Ford, Angelo Dawkins, Kofi Kingston and Big E could put together a great promo segment to set the stage for a match.
The actual in-ring action could be excellent as well since all four Superstars are impressive athletes with the ability to tell a compelling story through a match.
The Street Profits vs. New Day may be the biggest potential tag team dream match of all in WWE currently, and the brand-to-brand invitational could make it a reality.

Charlotte Flair's Best Potential Brand Invitational Opponents on WWE SmackDown

With the new WWE brand-to-brand invitational in place, the door is now open for Raw and SmackDown Superstars to flow freely between brands, which means there is plenty of potential for dream matches and feuds.
It was announced this week on Raw that NXT women's champion and Raw Superstar Charlotte Flair will appear on Friday's episode of SmackDown. WWE hasn't announced who she will interact with, but there is no shortage of quality female wrestlers on the blue brand who could step up to her.
Ahead of The Queen's anticipated appearance on SmackDown, here is a rundown of the performers who should confront her and potentially face her in a match.
Sasha Banks
Since Charlotte is the NXT women's champion, it stands to reason that she and the SmackDown women's champion will have some form of interaction Friday. If that is the case, then a match between The Queen and Bayley is possible.
They have faced each other many times dating back to NXT and have great chemistry together, but an even more exciting and anticipated match would be Flair vs. Sasha Banks given the fact that they previously engaged in what was one of the best women's division rivalries in WWE history.
Banks and Charlotte have gone at it often over the years, but the height of their rivalry was in 2016 when they faced each other multiple times on Raw and pay-per-views and traded the Raw Women's Championship back and forth.
Their rivalry has cooled since then, with only two singles matches against each other over the past three years. But there is little doubt the magic will be rekindled if and when they get back in the ring against each other.
WWE has been slowly building tension between Bayley and Banks. Just a few weeks ago, The Role Model volunteered The Boss to face Tamina in a singles match with the stipulation that Tamina would earn a title match if she could win.
Banks clearly wasn't happy about Bayley throwing her to the wolves, so perhaps the champion will do it again on Friday and back down from a fight with Charlotte in favor of having her friend do her bidding for her.
It would be a logical way to advance the story between Bayley and Banks, while also giving fans a great main event-caliber match for SmackDown in Charlotte vs. The Boss.
Sonya Deville
While Charlotte has been a top star for years, Sonya Deville is seemingly just starting her road to the top.
It has long been known that she has plenty of potential. She showed it as a contestant on Tough Enough and then continued to grow in limited opportunities in NXT before getting called up to the main roster in 2017.
Perhaps Deville wasn't quite ready for the call-up when it happened, but she is clearly coming into her own now, and facing Charlotte would be an ideal test to see how she measures up against one of the best in the ring.
Deville finally broke off on her own when she turned on best friend Mandy Rose a few weeks ago. She viciously attacked her longtime ally and then did an even bigger number on her the following week after costing her a spot in the Money in the Bank ladder match.
Last week, Deville defeated The Golden Goddess on SmackDown. During the match, she talked a ton of trash and continued to raise her own stock as one of the best heels in the women's division.
Charlotte is something of a tweener who can switch between heel and face when needed, and putting her in a face role against Deville could be huge for her continued development.
It is abundantly clear there is something special within Deville, and Charlotte may be the best person to bring it out of her.
Dana Brooke
Like Deville, Dana Brooke has been making significant strides over the past several weeks, and she may be on the verge of a big push if she can prove she deserves it.
Brooke was one of the standouts in the Money in the Bank ladder match, as she was featured in some of the most entertaining moments. She had a fun exchange with Stephanie McMahon before Carmella broke a painting over her head. Then, she was shown later in the match with the painting still over her head, which garnered a big reaction on social media.
Brooke has taken everything given to her and thrived recently, so it may be time to give her a step up in competition. She still has a long way to go, but she has a good look and the necessary athleticism to go toe-to-toe with The Queen.
Charlotte and Brooke have only faced each other once on the main roster and that was three years ago, so a match on Friday's SmackDown would be far different because both Superstars have changed significantly since then.
Brooke is seemingly getting over as a babyface, which means Charlotte can employ her cocky heel persona and aid her continued growth, just as she did in a recent match against Liv Morgan on Raw.
While Brooke doesn't have to beat Charlotte in order to take the next step, a good showing against her and proof that she can measure up to The Queen could go a long way.

WWE Money in the Bank 2020 Results: Matches WWE Must Book in 2020

Money in the Bank is now in WWE's rearview mirror, and the pay-per-view may have set the table for how the summer and fall months will unfold.
Asuka was the women's Money in the Bank ladder match winner, while Otis prevailed on the men's side. Elsewhere on the card, the champions all retained. Braun Strowman and Drew McIntyre continue to lead SmackDown and Raw, respectively, and Bayley's supremacy over the SmackDown women's division continues.
Looking at the results from Sunday night, these three matches should be in WWE's plans down the line.
Sasha Banks vs. Bayley
At some point, Sasha Banks and Bayley have to turn on one another, right?
Bayley successfully defended the SmackDown Women's Championship against Tamina when she countered out of a Samoan drop and pinned Tamina with a crucifix. It was a solid match, and the pair of Banks and Bayley look as strong as ever.
There's undoubtedly a level of subverting expectations at play. While watching every SmackDown and pay-per-view, some fans will be waiting for one of Banks or Bayley to finally say enough is enough and kick the other to the curb.
Wait long enough and people might start to think they'll stay friends forever.
WWE did this perfectly with Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho. The "Festival of Friendship" was the culmination of weeks teased breakups.
The risk is that WWE's creative team could wait so long that fans grow exasperated to the point of becoming apathetic.
SummerSlam in August would be the perfect time to plot the next entry in Banks and Bayley's long-running history. It's a bout befitting one of the biggest shows of the year, and WWE has time to tease this out so the inevitable split feels meaningful.
Otis vs. Braun Strowman
The night's biggest surprise came to close out Money in the Bank as Otis caught the briefcase after AJ Styles somehow fumbled it out of his hands.
Whether through a concerted effort or merely happenstance—the latter of which is likely the reality—Otis and Braun Strowman have never clashed in a singles match.
They competed in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 35 and then teamed together in an eight-man tag match on the Fox premiere of SmackDown in October.
Money in the Bank briefcase holders usually wait for the most opportune time to cash in their world title shot. Otis could be one of the few who lines up his championship match well in advance. What better way could he impress Mandy Rose than by calling his shot and dethroning Strowman?
That would also be a great way to turn Otis from a lovable babyface to a lovable babyface who's a bona fide main-event player.
In general, this pairing has the potential to be a great hoss fest. Strowman's battles with The Big Show illustrated how good he can be with an opponent who poses a similar physical threat. What Otis lacks in Strowman's height he makes up for with sheer girth.
If this does come to fruition, bet the house on WWE bringing back the spot where the ring collapses.
Asuka vs. Shayna Baszler
Having Asuka end Becky Lynch's nearly 400-day title reign by the way of a quick cash-in would make sense. Lynch doesn't get hurt too much, and Asuka regains the more villainous edge to her heel persona.
A prolonged feud between Asuka and Lynch wouldn't be ideal, though, because they crossed paths toward the end of 2019 before Lynch prevailed at Royal Rumble in January.
Looking at the state of the Raw women's division, Shayna Baszler is a far more interesting foil for The Empress of Tomorrow.
WWE teased this at Elimination Chamber. Asuka was the last woman standing in Baszler's way and was unable to overcome The Queen of Spades.
Asuka and Baszler's time in NXT didn't overlap. The former was effectively done after beating Ember Moon at NXT TakeOver Brooklyn III in August 2017, while the latter was getting her start in the Mae Young Classic that summer.
However, the dominance they enjoyed separately in NXT could be an obvious dynamic upon which to hit were they to have a prolonged storyline.
Asuka has the single longest NXT Women's Championship reign (522 days), and Baszler is in second (416 days). Add Baszler's two championship reigns together and her 548 days moves her to the top of the list.
As good as Lynch is, Raw desperately needs to shine the spotlight on its other female wrestlers. This is the easiest way to deliver great, physical matches once WWE's flagship show moves away from The Man.
