Wayne Rooney was arrested in December on charges of "public intoxication" and "swearing."

Erin Hawksworth of ABC7 News relayed the D.C. United forward's charge sheet and details of his release:

He was detained at the Loudon County Adult Detention Centre.

Rooney was subsequently freed on his own recognizance, but the 33-year-old did pay a fine worth $25 for the offence, which is thought to have taken place in Loudon County, Virginia on Sunday, December 16, according to The Athletic's Paul Tenorio and Pablo Maurer.

Rooney is said to have paid the fine Friday, January 4. On the same day, Rooney had looked toward the start of a new season with D.C. United:

Paying the fine has spared Rooney a hearing originally set for January 24.

He was arrested on a class four misdemeanour by officers of the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority. Rooney had attended the Riyadh Formula E Grand Prix in Saudi Arabia the day before, according to Jacob Murtagh of the Daily Mirror.

A spokesman for Rooney said the footballer "took a prescribed amount of sleeping tablets mixed with some alcohol consumption" on the flight back from Riyadh, per BBC Sport.

The combination left Rooney "disorientated on arrival."

D.C. United responded with the following statement, per the same source:

"We are aware of news reports indicating that Wayne Rooney was arrested in December. We understand the media's interest in this matter but we believe this is a private matter for Wayne that DC United will handle internally. We have no further comment on this situation."

This isn't Rooney's first scrape with the law or with issues related to intoxication. The former Everton and Manchester United star was arrested by Cheshire police in September 2017 and later charged with drink-driving during the early hours.

Rooney admitted the charges and entered a plea of guilty after being found to have been "almost three times" over the legal limit. England's all-time goalscorer later released a message of apology for his actions:

Rooney has been living in the United States since moving to Major League Soccer last summer. On the pitch, the move has proved a success, with Rooney winning the club MVP award after finishing as the team's top goalscorer.

He is still serving the remainder of a two-year ban from driving in the UK for his 2017 offence.

This year's Generation Adidas class was set before the combine, adding the following underclassmen to the group of available players, per Goal's Ives Galarcep:

MLSSoccer.com's Matthew Doyle believes Cincinnati will go with Siad Haji, the former VCU star and Generation Adidas talent. He and UCLA's Frankie Amaya are seen as the prospects with the highest overall upside, and the former's versatility could be what pushes him into the top slot.

In 37 matches over two seasons for VCU, Haji bagged seven goals and 18 assists. A fluent athlete with excellent vision, he profiles best as an attacking midfielder.

Here are some of his highlights:

Amaya's overall statistics were less impressive, but he played last season as a true freshman for UCLA. The Freshman All-American made the United States Under-20 team, unlike Haji, and went on to win the CONCACAF U-20 Championship.

Rob Usry of Dirty South Soccer thought Amaya made a big impression in the tournament:

Syracuse's Tajon Buchanan and Kentucky's J.J. Williams are both promising forwards with scoring potential, while Charlotte's Callum Montgomery is seen as the best centre-back in the draft, even if he's not a Generation Adidas player.

Among the goalkeepers, Maryland's Dayne St. Clair is the likely top pick, with most mock drafts linking him to hometown club Toronto FC.

With more clubs pushing through homegrown players and international prospects, it's becoming harder to make a mark on MLS as a collegiate draft pick. Expect the top teams to prioritise talent over need or reach for impact players.

Senior forward Andre Shinyashiki, who bagged 28 goals for the University of Denver, could be a popular name, especially after signing an MLS contract already.

Predictions: Cincinnati goes with Amaya's upside over Haji's production with the first overall selection. Haji goes second, ahead of Buchanan and Williams. Shinyashiki's scoring numbers make him a top-10 pick.

MLS side LA Galaxy have found their next head coach, announcing Guillermo Barros Schelotto as the new team boss on Wednesday.

They announced the news via Twitter:

Per the club's official website, Schelotto said he was "honored" to join: "I am honored to be the head coach for the most decorated club in Major League Soccer. This is a tremendous opportunity for me and I am excited to get to work. The LA Galaxy have long been the standard in MLS and I am ready to push the club to new heights."

General Manager Dennis te Kloese said the club believes Schelotto is a good fit:

"After a comprehensive search, domestically and internationally, we believe Guillermo will be a landmark signing for this club. Guillermo is a proven winner who has experience coaching, playing and winning for big clubs. It is our hope that Guillermo’s managing style and familiarity with MLS will bring trophies and championships to LA Galaxy fans and the city of Los Angeles."

The 45-year-old spent the last two seasons coaching Boca Juniors and guided the Argentinian giants to consecutive domestic titles and the Copa Libertadores final where they lost to rivals River Plate.

Rumours a deal was close started to pop up late December:

Five-time MLS Cup winners Galaxy missed out on the play-offs last season despite having the high-scoring Zlatan Ibrahimovic in their ranks. Sigi Schmid resigned in September after a poor run of form, and interim manager Dominic Kinnear nearly took the club to the play-offs.

Per Goal's Ives Galarcep the hire of Schelotto is down to new Te Kloese:

Schelotto previously coached MLS side Columbus Crew between 2007 and 2010, winning the 2008 MLS Cup.
