WWE's Nia Jax Requires Surgery for Elbow Injury; Out Indefinitely

WWE announced Wednesday that Nia Jax will miss an indefinite amount of time because of an elbow injury.
Kayla Braxton said on Wednesday's episode of The Bump that the WWE medical staff reported Jax suffered an elbow posterior fracture and dislocation that will require surgery:
Assuming the injury is legitimate and not part of a storyline, it likely explains the angle between Jax and former tag team partner Shayna Baszler on Monday night's episode of Raw.
After Baszler beat Jax in a match by making her pass out in the Kirifuda Clutch, The Queen of Spades tossed Jax outside the ring and stomped her arm and elbow onto the steel steps, leading to Jax screaming in agony.
Baszler and Jax were a dominant tag team for quite some time and even held the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships on two occasions, making them only the third team to accomplish that feat.
They dropped the title to Natalya and Tamina in May, however, and their relationship has been rocky ever since.
Baszler cost Jax in a recent Raw Women's Championship match against Charlotte Flair, leading to Monday's match. Now, it is clear there is no reconciliation in their future.
With Jax on the shelf, it will allow Baszler to go off on her own and perhaps reach the immense potential she showed in NXT, where she was the first two-time NXT Women's champion.
Meanwhile, Jax represents a significant loss to the women's division, as the former Raw Women's champion has been a consistent presence on the red brand for the past few years.

Vince McMahon Wants NXT to Be Edgier Product
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEQ3MPKQYRg
WWE Chairman Vince McMahon is reportedly looking to appeal to a younger demographic with the new NXT 2.0 product.
According to Fightful Select (h/t H Jenkins of Ringside News), McMahon suggested the use of more adult language and themes, as well as "more lenience" regarding the ring gear of female wrestlers.
McMahon also reportedly wants NXT wrestlers to "keep up with current affairs with promos and character verbiage."
It was noted by Fightful that McMahon primarily wants to target the 18-34-year-old demographic with the new version of NXT.
NXT 2.0 launched last week, and it had a decidedly different feel from the previous NXT, with its focus on young, unknown talent.
That largely continued this week, especially in terms of building up Bron Breakker as one of the top stars on the brand.
It also seemed as though the boundaries were pushed a bit more than normal based in promos and some of the jokes that were cracked by the announce team.
It remains to be seen if the changes in philosophy will bring in a younger audience, but NXT 2.0 has been entertaining thus far and done a good job of showcasing some of the young talent WWE has under contract.
Young Rock Casting Several Old School Wrestlers
After a successful first season, the NBC sitcom Young Rock is casting for Season 2, and many of the names included will be familiar to wrestling fans.
According to PWInsider's Mike Johnson, the 1980s wrestlers and wrestling personalities the show is currently casting include Jerry "The King" Lawler, Tommy Rich, Bam Bam Bigelow, Haystacks Calhoun, "Mean" Gene Okerlund, Big John Studd, "Classy" Freddie Blassie, Mr. Fuji and The Great Kabuki.
Young Rock is also re-casting some of the wrestlers featured in Season 1, including "Rowdy" Roddy Piper.
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is an executive producer on the show, which focuses on his upbringing in a professional wrestling family and his time as a football player at the University of Miami.
The Rock went on to become one of the biggest stars in the history of pro wrestling, and he is among the most successful actors in the world as well.
Young Rock received positive reviews, especially from wrestling fans.
PWInsider noted that Young Rock Season 2 will begin filming in Australia in October and production for the 10-episode season will run through January.
Fox to Air King of the Ring Special First Weekend of October
In anticipation of the potential return of WWE's King of the Ring tournament, Fox will reportedly air a King of the Ring special.
According to Johnson, the special will air the weekend of Oct. 1 through Oct. 3 in different time slots depending on the market. It is expected to serve as a preview for the 2021 King of the Ring tournament.
The return of King of the Ring has been speculated on for quite some time, and while WWE has yet to confirm anything, all signs point toward it taking place in October.
Andrew Zarian of the Mat Men Pro Wrestling Podcast recently reported that the King of the Ring and debuting Queen of the Ring tournaments will occur during the month of October with the finals of both taking place at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia on Oct. 21.
King of the Ring was once a highly anticipated annual tournament in WWE, and it even had its own pay-per-view from 1993-2002.
More recent iterations of King of the Ring have seen the tournaments play out primarily on Raw and SmackDown, and it seems as though that will be the case this time around as well.
The latest King of the Ring tournament occurred in 2019, and it saw Baron Corbin beat Chad Gable in the finals to take the crown.

WWE's Triple H Says He's 'Recovering' After Heart Surgery, Is 'Blown Away' by Support
Sep 21, 2021
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - OCTOBER 11: WWE Executive Vice President of Talent, Live Events and Creative Paul "Triple H" Levesque speaks at a WWE news conference at T-Mobile Arena on October 11, 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was announced that WWE wrestler Braun Strowman will face heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury and WWE champion Brock Lesnar will take on former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez at the WWE's Crown Jewel event at Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on October 31. (Photo by Ethan Miller/Getty Images)
Triple H released a statement after undergoing heart surgery.
The WWE star said Tuesday he was "blown away by the outreach and support from so many people" and doing well in recovery:
I’ve been blown away by the outreach and support from so many people. I’m recovering, doing well, & deeply grateful for all the love in my life. Especially grateful for @ShawnMichaels & all the Superstars & crew @WWENXT! (Steph and the girls loved the snacks!) See you soon 🙏❤️
WWE announced Sept. 8 that Triple H had experienced a "cardiac event" that required surgery.
The company didn't elaborate on his status beyond saying the episode was caused by a "genetic heart issue."
The 14-time world champion has effectively retired from in-ring competition. His last official match was in June 2019 at a live event in Japan.
Triple H has had his hands full while working as WWE's executive vice present for global talent strategy and development.
Overseeing NXT has been one of his more notable duties behind the scenes. His cardiac episode meant he was absent as the development brand began its "NXT 2.0" phase. According to Wrestling Observer Radio's Dave Meltzer (via Jason Ounpraseuth of Wrestling Inc), Shawn Michaels filled in to lead the reset.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter (via Wrestling Inc's Marc Middleton) also reported WWE told its wrestlers they could reach out to Triple H and see how he was doing but were prohibited from discussing any business matters.
It remains unclear when he'll return to his usual duties in the WWE offices.
AEW's Bryan Danielson: 'I See These Next 3 Years as My Last as a Full-Time Wrestler'
Sep 21, 2021
All Elite Wrestling star Bryan Danielson has set a tentative timeline for when he plans to wind down his in-ring career.
The former world champion said Tuesday on WFAN's Moose & Maggie, "I see these Next three years as my last as a full-time wrestler."
Danielson, 40, clarified he doesn't intend to retire altogether when those three years are up but that he sees this period as the last in which he'll be able to perform at a high-level week in and week out.
He went on to discuss the conflict he feels between balancing his career and home life, especially after having taken time off prior to his AEW move. His daughter, Birdie, recently started preschool:
Her whole life, I've left almost every week, but me being home every night, she loved it and I loved it. Now, when I FaceTime her, she's like, 'Daddy, I miss your cuddles, mama doesn't cuddle me like you do!' and that kind of stuff. That was part of the idea of maybe stepping away until my son starts preschool, but then you wonder if I'm missing years of my productive career, and I might not be the same at 45 as I am at 40.
The dilemma may be particularly acute for Danielson since he has already had to briefly retire. He walked away in 2016 after experiencing health issues tied to concussions he had suffered throughout his career.
Because of that, fans have come to appreciate Danielson's presence a little more when he came back in 2018.
His comments Tuesday provide another reason to savor his AEW run before he inevitably takes a step back.
Becky Lynch Reveals Nixed Return Plan; Keith Lee's New Nickname; Big E in The Shield?

Lynch Confirms Talk of Match vs. Bayley at WrestleMania 37
SmackDown Women's champion Becky Lynch said Monday that multiple different plans for her return to the ring were discussed before she showed up at SummerSlam.
Speaking to Alex McCarthy of TalkSport, Lynch said the original idea was for her to appear at WrestleMania 37 in April to potentially face Bayley.
Becky said the plan was changed and the expectation was she would return in October, but WWE called her the week of SummerSlam and moved her return up to that event.
The change of plans was necessitated by Sasha Banks' inability to compete at SummerSlam in her scheduled SmackDown Women's Championship match against Bianca Belair.
That led to The Man's appearance for the first time in more than a year after giving birth to her first child and challenging Belair to a title match on the spot.
Belair accepted and went to shake Becky's hand when she offered it, but Lynch took advantage with a cheap shot and won the title in seconds, thus cementing a heel turn.
Had Lynch come back at WrestleMania to face Bayley, she would have been a clear babyface since Bayley was the top heel in the women's division at that time.
Bayley didn't end up having a match at WrestleMania, instead acting as a de facto host and eventually getting beaten up by WWE Hall of Famers The Bella Twins.
While Becky vs. Bayley would have been an excellent addition to the WrestleMania card, having Lynch come back as the heel foil to Belair has been effective.
Both have knocked it out of the park, and there is no question The EST is more over than ever as a babyface because of the heel work Becky has been doing.
Things are constantly evolving in WWE, and it could turn out that bringing back Lynch at SummerSlam was the best move for her, Belair and the entire SmackDown women's division.
Keith Lee Given "Bearcat" Nickname
During a dark match prior to Monday night's episode of Raw, Keith Lee was announced as having a new nickname.
According to WrestlingInc.com's Marc Middleton, Lee was announced as Keith "Bearcat" Lee before winning a squash match against a local enhancement talent.
Middleton noted that the nickname could be an homage to wrestling legends Bearcat Wright and Bearcat Brown, the former of whom was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017 as part of the legacy wing.
Lee has been kept off television since Aug. 2 when he beat Karrion Kross on Raw. Before that, he made his long-awaited return to TV on July 19 after missing more than five months with an illness.
While fans are eagerly anticipating Lee's return, it is clear WWE is trying to fine-tune his character before having him reenter the fold.
He has worked many dark matches and live events since Aug. 2 and has played a heel role in many of those matches, which could be a sign of things to come.
Also, the WWE draft is scheduled to begin Oct. 1, and keeping Lee off TV could be a case of WWE preparing to move him from Raw to SmackDown.
Regardless of where and when he resurfaces, the former NXT and North American champion is a big-time talent with the potential to be a top star in WWE.
Kofi Says Big E Was Almost in The Shield
Big E reached the pinnacle of the professional wrestling business by winning the WWE Championship, but his path to get there was almost much different.
In an interview with Rick Ucchino of SportsKeeda (h/t Subhojeet Mukherjee of Ringside News), New Day member Kofi Kingston discussed the original plan for his stablemate when he made his WWE main roster debut back in 2012:
"Big E will tell the story a lot better, but long-story-short, he was actually supposed to be in The Shield a long time ago, way way back when they were trying to pick people from FCW to come up. So Roman [Reigns] gets the call, Roman goes off, builds himself and does all these incredible things and incredible run with The Shield. Roman is Roman and also Big E has done some incredible things and [shown] some incredible growth. ... Now, everyone loves Big E, so there's a big journey there too."
The Shield ended up being Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose, all of whom went on to become world champions in WWE and huge stars in the wrestling business.
Instead of joining The Shield, Big E debuted as a bodyguard of sorts for Dolph Ziggler and AJ Lee. He also went on to become Intercontinental champion after breaking out on his own.
It wasn't until Big E, Kofi and Xavier Woods formed New Day in 2014 that he truly started to reach his immense potential, however.
After becoming one of the greatest tag team wrestlers of all time with Kingston and Woods, Big E went off on his own again last year and won the IC title.
He also won Money in the Bank and successfully cashed it in last week to beat Bobby Lashley and become WWE champion.
Now, Reigns and Big E are at the top of their respective brands and are embroiled in a feud of sorts, which goes to show there are many different ways to become a top star in WWE.

Roman Reigns Outlasts Big E, Bobby Lashley in Triple Threat Match on WWE Raw
Sep 21, 2021
With less than a week until Extreme Rules, WWE fans were treated to a main event worthy of a major pay-per-view on Raw.
Roman Reigns defeated Bobby Lashley and Big E in a Triple Threat match to close out WWE's flagship show.
Big E was poised to get the victory after hitting Reigns with the Big Ending. However, Lashley broke up the pinfall by delivering a chair shot to the man who dethroned him as WWE champion one week ago.
Lashley got a little too confident, though. As he was savoring the damage he wrought, he didn't catch Reigns out of the corner of his eye lining up a spear. The universal champ was on the money and pinned Lashley for the three-count.
The match was arranged after Lashley involved himself in The New Day's six-man tag team clash against Reigns and The Usos. The All Mighty attacked members of both teams, laying out the WWE and universal champions in the process.
Monday presumably served as a preview of Survivor Series, which has pitted the stars of Raw and SmackDown against one another since the 2016 brand split.
The path for Big E as Raw's champion remains somewhat unclear, though a rematch with Lashley is probably inevitable. Reigns, meanwhile, defends his title against Finn Balor on Sunday and has Brock Lesnar on tap at Crown Jewel on Oct. 21.
Assuming the two are still holding the gold come November, Big E and Reigns may find themselves back in the main event together.
Cody, Brandi Rhodes Talk AEW's Development, Wrestling Mt. Rushmore, More in B/R AMA

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 15: Cody Rhodes and Brandi Rhodes attend the WarnerMedia 2019 Upfront at One Penn Plaza on May 15, 2019 in New York City. (Photo by Michael Loccisano/Getty Images)
Cody Rhodes and his wife, Brandi Rhodes, have become a powerhouse couple in the world of wrestling.
Both have had key roles in the formation of AEW, serving as superstars in the ring and executives behind the scenes. Cody is an executive vice president, while Brandi serves as the chief brand officer.
The couple have also expanded their television with the creation of Rhodes to the Top, a reality show on TNT. On Monday, Cody and Brandi joined the Bleacher Report app to speak to fans during an AMA session.
The following is the full transcript from the AMA session.
@just_in_time What inspired you guys to create the show? Is it something you wanted to do for a long time now ?
C: The inspiration is the expansion of the AEW footprint. Dynamite was so good. We moved from Wednesday - Friday nights. With that in mind, the idea that we could put mics on members of management, turn the cameras on and get this unprecedented look behind the scenes in the craziness, most tumultuous season just felt like it just happened. I’m proud we were able to keep it authentic, it’s not a framed reality show and just a reality show. That excites me.
B: What happens on the show falls on a very interesting period of time. When we were filming everyone was scared that we’d wrap before the baby was born. Then the baby came early which is why we shifted courses. You get pregnant Brandi at the end of her road and then this beautiful baby is here and there’s this adjustment. That’s where we end off and whatever’s next is up to TNT. I’m hopeful we’re able to see what’s next, it’s really a fun and amazing time. I’ve changed a lot in a good way. This is a process everyone goes through and I want to share that with people.
C @fitchkarma6 What inspired you to originally be a part of AEW?
C: The origin story of AEW is almost 9/10 incorrect. But the truth is it’s all of the origin stories. Chris Jericho’s origin stories, Matt & Nick Jackson, most importantly Tony Khan, and me and Brandy. Those origin stories all have to come together. Tony Khan wanted to do this since he was a little kid. He had the mind to put this together and do what other wrestlers couldn’t and get to the WarnerMedia office to sell it. I think the turning point was after we did ‘All In’ and we really wanted to do a second show. That second show in conversation grew to a weekly running deal. The thought that Matt, Nick, Kenny and myself are Vice Presidents and have a say in storylines was just harmonious. It will never happen again in wrestling for every star to align and to exist in a way it does now. If we were to walk away from it now, I can hold my hands up and say I’m so happy this is a part of my legacy - the creation of this place. This is no longer a challenger brand. It’s moving and grooving at a really high pace and all the data is there to support what’s happening in the business. AEW is gonna be around for a very long time. That’s amazing. I’m very excited. It took someone like Tony to let us play the music like we know to play it.
C @CodyRhodes Did you foresee AEW coming together this fast?
C: I’ve always had a more realistic outlook on the growth...I have a bit more conservative outlook on how we could grow, how we could move ourselves out of the black. Very quickly early on I realized we created this wonderful company that people want to come to. It’s a matter of time until free agents come because it’s a friendly environment. Free agents want to come. There’s no writers. It’s a book show, not a written show. Sometimes it’s home runs and sometimes it’s misses. That’s what makes it real. I should’ve seen it was a matter of time but I've always been conservative. I’m lucky to live in the timeline it did.
C or B: @JbMack_920 Was it always going to be called AEW? Were there other names that were considered?
C: There were other names kicked around. We considered ‘All Elite’ and Tony had the foresight and said ‘it’s a wrestling company, we need initials’... Dynamite is what Tony wanted and he saw it through.
B: It was always AEW, it was whether or not it was going to be Dynamite
Either @DaBlackDrPhil How rewarding is it to see all the hard work you guys put behind the scenes to get the company to where it is now?
C: As a wrestler it’s so hard sometimes to say ‘he this is great, these are the good times’ because we’re always treating every glass of water like it’s your last. I’m on technically four shows in the WarnerMedia family… It’s hard as a wrestler to sit back but if there’s ever a time it’s now.
B @realalexlarsen Who is the funniest person behind the scenes at AEW?
A lot of people think they’re funny so i’ll give you that. QT Marshall, Charlie Ramone, Cody, me...i’m sarcastic though so my humor doesn’t mix with a lot of people...Sammy thinks he’s pretty funny. The funniest person behind the scenes is Dean Malenko but he has my kind of humor -- being sarcastic.
C @v1p3r When did you decide to call yourself the American Nightmare?
I spent my WWE career trying to do everything different from Dusty but then at a certain point you’re allowed a little grace. When I left in 2015 and went to New Japan it was Tiger Hattori and Gato that liked the idea because it was easy for the fans to follow because it was like ‘The American Dream.’ I was able to take it from there and get ownership of it and bring it everywhere I go. Now I’m surprised because I’ve never used it before. Dusty was rags to riches and I was riches to riches, bratty little kid so the American Nightmare fits me well.
Both @253cod How young were you when you first realized you wanted to wrestle?
C: It was my earliest memories at 3 or 4 years old so there’s never not been a time.
B: I was older. I first got int he Wrestling ring at 27. I was modeling at the time through agencies. I was a figure skater for 14 years and fit the bill. I tried out and fell in love with it.
C @yourtoosoft What is your great wrestling memory of your dad The Great American Dream?
There’s so many so it’s fluid in my mind. Something I was most proud of was my dad was really adamant that he believed in me genuinely despite signs that I wasn’t. My first WM was my first singles match in front of 80K people and he took a picture of me. It was the first time the tide really turned where I wasn’t Dusty’s son but Cody’s dad and those moments were really exceptional. As proud of my dad as I was...
C @cwb17630 What’s the best advice you can give to someone who aspires to wrestle to take themselves to the next level?
I was told this in the ring one time and I shared it with Red Velvet the night we wrestled Shaq and Jade...don’t let anyone convince you you’re not the biggest star in the ring and I refused to believe otherwise. That really meant something.
B @Neckbeardsports What is some advice you’d give to anyone aspiring to make their own business?
There’s going to be a lot of people that tell you all the reasons why not -- how much it'll cost, the planning, etc. The list is endless, but if you’re truly passionate about something you just have to start and keep going. It may not go exactly the way you want and you may take some detours but just stay the course.
Throughout much of my life, there have been more people who told me I can’t do something than I people who told me I can. Use that as fuel.
The best feeling in the world is when someone has told you you can’t do something matter of factly, and then when you do, It feels so great.
Me being right is everything to me.
C @Biggie2kFreak What has been the biggest downfall or challenge in your career and how did you manage?
The music has broken my heart far more than it has cheered me up so far. I started a bit smaller and today in our industry I'm like a giant. Currently, I'm in a position where they think I book the show and book myself which has created tension for some fans. I’m of the belief that if you pay your money you can cheer, boo, etc. To go from a warm reception to an adversarial reception...i’ll retire before I become a heel. I’m not going to make decisions that are bad for our youth to see. That’s the challenge, how do I maintain where I’m at when the crowd wants to get a different flavor.
B @Ryansportss What is the toughest part of your job?
People seem to assume because I have an executive role that it’s all encompassing of everything having to do with women and people of color. That’s just not the reality of corporate america. Think of the person who has my job at Coca Cola, you wouldn’t say they’re responsible for all women and people of color because they’re a woman and person of color. It’s something I’ve gotten very used to and completely turn on. I do what I do need to do and that’s my job. Those are areas I’m passionate about, but you have to stay realistic. You have to be professional and be measured about how you fight for some of your passions as well as do your job. As a professional sometimes you eat crow and you do what you know is right.

Former WCW Star Daffney Unger's Death Ruled a Suicide by Medical Examiner
Sep 20, 2021
The death of Shannon Spruill, who wrestled under the name Daffney Unger in WCW and TNA, has been ruled a suicide by a medical examiner.
TMZ Sports reported Spruill died of a self-inflicted gunshot to her chest.
She was 46.
Spruill had been battling mental health issues leading up to her death and expressed suicidal thoughts on Instagram Live hours before taking her own life.
"Do you guys not understand that I am all alone? Do you not understand that?" Spruill said in the video.
She also told those watching Instagram Live that she wanted her brain sent to Boston, likely referring to the Boston University CTE Center and Brain Bank. Former WWE star Chris Nowinski has been at the forefront of research on chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a progressive, degenerative brain condition caused by repeated head trauma.
Several former wrestlers have been diagnosed with CTE following their deaths. Chris Benoit, who died by suicide after killing his wife and son in 2007, was the first wrestler to be diagnosed with CTE. The condition can cause significant mood swings, including suicidal ideation, but can only be diagnosed posthumously.
Spruill wrestled in WCW from 1999-2001 and then sporadically in TNA from 2002 to 2011, along with several stops on the independent circuit. She stated she suffered several concussions during her wrestling career and blamed head injuries for the changes to quality of life she experienced late in her life.
Reigns vs. McIntyre Advertised; MVP Has Surgery; AEW's Ruby Soho Talks WWE Creative

Bleacher Report catches you up on the latest news from the WWE Universe.
Reigns vs. McIntyre Set for WWE Draft SmackDown
Mike Johnson of PWInsider reported a match between Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre has been advertised for the Oct. 1 SmackDown, the first night of the WWE draft.
While that does not necessarily mean McIntyre will be drafted to SmackDown—it's possible that all Superstars will be part of both cards to boost ratings—the former WWE champion has been in need of a shakeup since his feud with Bobby Lashley.
McIntyre has been emboiled in a months-long feud with Jinder Mahal, which may be thrilling to the remaining 3MB stans out there but few others. He's been the most obvious Raw star in line for a brand switch and a potential challenger to Reigns if he gets past Finn Balor and Brock Lesnar.
Local advertisements are not always 100 percent correct—remember, card is subject to change—but McIntyre heading to SmackDown and challenging Reigns on his first night makes a lot of sense.
MVP Has Knee Surgery
After attempting rehabilitation for his balky knee for months, MVP underwent surgery last week, per Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer.
MVP was dealing with a balky knee for months and was considering arthroscopic surgery but attempted to avoid the procedure to stay on television. He was written off by WWE last week, with the company using a kayfabe rib injury to explain his absence.
This likely explains why Bobby Lashley has been getting increased mic time in recent weeks, as he'll have to fend for himself for the foreseeable future. MVP has been a revelation as Lashley's manager and occasional tag team partner over the last year, elevating both men to arguably the peak of their careers in their 40s.
Raw will be worse off not having MVP on the stick.
Ruby Soho Talks WWE Run
AEW's Ruby Soho appeared on Talk is Jericho last week and discussed her Ruby Riott character in WWE.
Apparently, the idea to team Soho, Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan came from Vince McMahon watching Suicide Squad.
"From what I understand, I don’t know how much truth there is to this, Vince [McMahon] watched the Suicide Squad and wanted a Joker, a Harley Quinn, and a beast in a female faction...I’ve always wondered what made him put that group together, the three of us,” Soho admitted. “He wanted a Joker, which was me. A Harley Quinn, which was Liv Morgan and a beast, which was Sarah," Soho said.
Soho added her name was changed from Riot to Riott for trademarking issues.
