Minnesota Golden Gophers redshirt sophomore guard Marcus Carr used Instagram to announce he will enter his name into consideration for the 2020 NBA draft on Monday night:
"After speaking to my family, we have decided that I will be entering my name in this upcoming 2020 NBA draft. My intentions are to stay in the draft and pursue a professional career in the NBA. However during this process I will be retaining my college eligibility status by not signing with an agent.
"I am looking forward to receiving valuable information, going through whatever process this unique draft year does include, and ultimately making the best the best decision for myself and family. It's always been a dream of mine to play in the NBA and I would like to thank God, my family, and my coaches for putting me in this position. No matter what happens, my time here at the University of Minnesota has provided me with an unbelievable opportunity and it will forever hold a special place in my heart. GOG."
Carr averaged a career-best 15.4 points, 6.6 assists and 5.3 rebounds across 31 starts for the 15-16 Golden Gophers last season. His assists per game led all Minnesota players, while his points per game ranked behind only sophomore big man Daniel Oturu's 20.1. Oturu declared for the draft last week.
Carr wasnamedhonorable mention All-Big Ten by the conference's coaches and third-team All-Big Ten by the media voting panel.
The guard's collegiate career began at Pittsburgh in 2017, but the Toronto nativetransferredto Minnesota in May 2018 and missed the 2018-19 campaign as a result.
All declared players have until 5 p.m. ET on June 15 to withdraw from the draft, which is scheduled for June 25, and return to college, per theNBA.
247Sports'Evan Danielsultimately expects Carr to return to Minnesota.
4-Star Center Cliff Omoruyi Commits to Rutgers, School's Top Recruit Since 2008
Mar 29, 2020
Rutgers got a huge addition to the basketball program Sunday with the commitment of center Cliff Omoruyi:
The New Jersey native is considered a 4-star recruit and No. 41 overall player in the 2020 class, according to 247Sports' composite rankings.
According to Jeff Borzello of ESPN, he is the highest-rated recruit in ESPN's ranking database to join the Scarlet Knights since 2008.
The 6'10" player is a true difference-maker in the paint, using his athleticism to make plays on both ends of the court. He should be especially valuable defensively as an elite rim-protector and rebounder.
Omoruyi will also be able to help offensively as a reliable finisher at the rim.
While he picked Rutgers over finalists Auburn and Arizona State, the big man got offers from abouttwo dozen programs, including Kentucky, Louisville, Arizona and more.
Joining the Scarlet Knights will help the team's meteoric rise under head coach Steve Pikiell.
The squad had a losing record in 14 straight seasons until finishing 20-11 in 2019-20 with an impressive 11-9 mark in the Big Ten. The NCAA tournament was canceled due to the coronavirus, but all 97 predictions onBracket Matrix had Rutgers in the March Madness field.
It would have been the school's first appearance in the men's NCAA tournament since 1991.
The latest addition will help Rutgers remain competitive in the Big Ten and nationally.
Michigan State's Xavier Tillman Sr. Declares for 2020 NBA Draft

Xavier Tillman Sr. announced Tuesday he is leaving Michigan State for the 2020 NBA draft:
"With the support of my family and coaches I have decided to test the water and will enter my name in the 2020 NBA draft," the junior forward said. "It is important for me to gather as much information as possible before making this decision. Throughout the process I will be keeping my college eligibility."
Players have until June 15 at 5 p.m. ET to withdraw their names from the draft, which is scheduled for June 25.
Tillman made the All-Big Ten Second Team and the conference's All-Defensive Team after averaging a career-high 13.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.1 blocks and 1.2 steals in 32.1 minutes per game across 31 starts.
Bleacher Report'sJonathan Wassermanranked Tillman the 31st-best prospect in his top-50 big board earlier this month:
"The right fit and team could unlock and optimize Tillman's role-player qualities, including his passing, rebounding effort and defensive versatility. He's on track to join Tim Duncan and Bo Outlaw as the only NCAA players since 1992 to average at least 10 boards, three assists and two blocks. He also leads the nation in box plus-minus, which is another reason to look past how Tillman likely won't offer much as a scorer in the NBA."
The Spartans finished 22-9 with a No. 9 AP ranking in an abbreviated season. The NCAA tournament was canceled March 12 because of the coronavirus pandemic.
As the season wound down, Tillman posted consecutive double-doubles with 14 points and 12 rebounds against Maryland and 23 points and 15 rebounds against Penn State—both victories. Then, in what could be his final collegiate game, Tillman recorded 15 points, nine rebounds, five assists, two blocks and two steals in an 80-69 win over Ohio State.
Minnesota's Daniel Oturu Declares for 2020 NBA Draft; Named 2nd-Team All-Big Ten

Sophomore forward/center Daniel Oturu is leaving the University of Minnesota for the 2020 NBA draft, he told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on Monday.
"I decided to enter this year's 2020 NBA Draft basically because I felt like this is the right time for me especially with how my season went," Oturu told 247Sports' Evan Daniels. "Basically I felt like this is the best option to go for it. I'm putting all my eggs in the basket for sure."
Oturu was named Second Team All-Big Ten after averaging 20.1 points and 11.3 rebounds across 31 starts during the 2019-20 season. He was the 15-16 Golden Gophers' leading scorer and rebounder.
Oturu improved drastically from his freshman campaign, as he averaged 10.8 points and 7.0 rebounds in 35 games (31 starts) in 2018-19. He saw an increased role this season from 23.8 minutes per game as a freshman to 33.9 minutes per game as a sophomore.
"We've been hesitant about Oturu, a center with limited bounce, 61 turnovers to 23 assists, a suspect jumper and a post-up-heavy repertoire. But it's tough to ignore his 19.7 points, 11.3 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game on 58.8 percent shooting. If his ceiling is a backup center, then to us, he's not an exciting enough gamble in the first round. Although, it sounds like some scouts detect more upside and are higher on his shooting and rim protection."
An anonymous NBA scout described Oturu to Wasserman as "a riser. Plays hard and with defensive toughness. Loved him when scouting him live, and I'll continue to watch."
ESPN's Jonathan Givony has Oturu ranked as the 36th overall prospect in this class (h/t Wojnarowski).
ThelastMinnesota player to be drafted was Kris Humphries, who went 14th overall to the Utah Jazz in 2004.

Ohio State guard D.J. Carton announced Thursday he will transfer from the program:
The freshman appeared in 20 games but took a leave of absence in January for mental health reasons.
"We 100 percent support D.J. in this decision and we genuinely wish him all the best moving forward," the school said in a statement, per Jeff Borzello of ESPN. "We appreciate all he contributed to our program. We will assist him in any way we can."
Carton was an impact player last season when he was on the court, finishing third on the team with an average of 10.4 points per game. He also averaged 3.0 assists per game while knocking down 40 percent of his three-point attempts.
His high level of play was mostly what was expected when he entered the program as a 4-star recruit, and he was rated the No. 4 point guard in the class by247Sportscomposite rankings.
The Iowa native had scholarship offersfrom over a dozen schools, choosing the Buckeyes over other top Big Ten programs like Michigan and Indiana.
When he left the team in January, hesaidhe had been "suffering with mental health issues for a couple years."
A new program could give Carton a fresh start while trying to reach his immense potential on the court.
Big Ten 2020 Final Team Standings, Top Player Stats and Best NBA Draft Prospects

The Big Ten regular season was controlled by a handful of dominant players.
Iowa's Luka Garza led the league in scoring, while Minnesota's Daniel Oturu was second in points per game and first in rebounding.
Maryland's Jalen Smith was also a key contributor to a team that finished in a three-way tie for the regular-season crown.
Michigan State's Xavier Tillman also shined during Michigan State's impressive finish that landed it in the three-way tie with Maryland and Wisconsin.
The next step for some of the big men is a trip to the NBA draft, where a few could land in the first round.

Best NBA Draft Prospects
Jalen Smith, F, Maryland
PISCATAWAY, NJ - MARCH 03: Jalen Smith #25 of the Maryland Terrapins blocks a shot by Jacob Young #42 of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights during the second half of a college basketball game at Rutgers Athletic Center on March 3, 2020 in Piscataway, New Jersey.
Smith formed one of the best one-two punches in the Big Ten alongside guard Anthony Cowan.
The sophomore forward averaged 15.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, and he finished the campaign with four consecutive double-doubles.
Smith's development in the paint has gained attention from NBA teams, and it landed him at No. 27 in the latest mock draft from Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman.
Had he left the Terrapins after his freshman season, Smith would have had to refine his skills either deep on an NBA bench, or in the G-League.
Instead, he developed his game at Maryland, and it could be beneficial to his draft stock this summer.
In addition to his scoring and rebounding prowess, Smith averaged 2.4 blocks per game. He had multiple rejections in each of his last six appearances.
If he opts to leave Maryland, there should be plenty of suitors for Smith in the final part of the first round, or at worst the top third of the second round.
Xavier Tillman, F, Michigan State
Tillman was one of the primary reasons Michigan State turned its season around during the second half of the Big Ten schedule.
The junior forward recorded 10 points or more in seven of his last eight games, and he had six double-doubles during that span.
Much like Smith and Cowan did at Maryland, Tillman teamed up with Cassius Winston to boost the Spartans up the standings and into the three-way tie for first place.
Tillman's skill set should hand him looks deep into the first round, especially if contenders are looking to bolster their frontcourt rotations.
CBS Sports' Kyle Boone had Tillman landing at No. 21 in his latest mock draft, noting that he "does all the non-flashy things that make him an exciting prospect."
Due to the current style of play in the NBA, Tillman might have to develop an outside jumper to contend for minutes alongside other big men.
But he does have strong skills in other facets of the game that should draw eyes his way during the draft process.
Big Ten Tournament 2020: Betting Tips for Round 2 Odds, Spreads and Over-Under
Mar 12, 2020

One of the best individual frontcourt matchups you will see at a conference tournament takes place Thursday at the Big Ten tournament.
Iowa Hawkeyes forward Luka Garza and Daniel Oturu of the Minnesota Golden Gophers are double-double machines, and both are expected to receive a heavy amount of paint touches at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Minnesota advanced to this stage by earning a blowout win over the Northwestern Wildcats, while Iowa settled in as the No. 5 seed after a loss to the Illinois Fighting Illini Sunday.
The four-game slate opens with an intriguing battle between the Michigan Wolverines and Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
Rutgers has been one of the best stories of the men's college basketball season, but it faces a tough challenge against a team that typically performs well at this stage of the season.
Despite falling in three of its last four games, Iowa seems like the best bet with a small line in its favor.
Fran McCaffery's side owns a pair of victories over Minnesota by a combined margin of victory of 23 points.
Garza produced a pair of 20-point performances in those meetings, and he comes into Indianapolis with at least 20 points in every contest since January 10.
The junior has six double-doubles during that stretch, with two of them coming in the final three regular-season games. Garza typically draws a large crowd in the paint, but that likely will not be the case with Oturu on his back for long stretches.
Oturu had 24 points, eight rebounds and knocked down a pair of three-pointers in the first-round win over Northwestern. The sophomore also had one double-double in the two meetings between the Hawkeyes and Golden Gophers.
Which big man wins the battle in the paint could determine the final result, but so could the supporting casts.
Minnesota's top scorers produce at a larger rate than Iowa's, as Marcus Carr and Gabe Kalscheur both average over 11 points per game. However, the Hawkeyes have more scoring depth with Joe Wieskamp, Ryan Kreiner and Joe Toussaint among others chipping in to help Garza.
If Iowa uses a steady diet of Garza, and its guards chip in with a handful of key shots, it should have enough to power past Minnesota and set up a quarterfinal clash with Illinois.
Rutgers-Michigan Over 135
Since Michigan defeated Rutgers 60-52 February 19, it has played in a handful of high-scoring affairs.
Its regular-season finale against the Maryland Terrapins had 153 points, and the victorious side in each of its last four games crossed over 75 points. Rutgers has consistently scored at a high clip in victories, as it racked up at least 70 more points in each of its last six victories.
The two previous meetings between the Scarlet Knights and Wolverines were decided by a total of 14 points. If the two sides remain locked in a tight affair Thursday, we could see an inflated point total with both sides trying to match each other's production.
Juwan Howard's Wolverines have five players who average over 10 points per game, so if they need to spread the ball around for open looks, there are plenty of capable players to knock down shots.
Between Zavier Simpson, Isaiah Livers, Eli Brooks and Jon Teske, Michigan also owns plenty of postseason experience from deep Big Ten and NCAA men's basketball tournament runs. That could be beneficial in late-game situations against a Rutgers side that is enjoying one of its most successful seasons in program history.
Steve Pikiell relies on the guard duo of Geo Baker and Ron Harper Jr. to score the bulk of the points, but his unit does not possess the high volume of depth Michigan does. If Baker and Harper are able to match what Simpson and the Michigan guards produce, this could be a back-and-forth affair with plenty of points.

Despite a surreal scene all over the American sports map, the Big Ten Tournament kicked off unimpeded Wednesday night with two matchups. In the early game, 12th-seeded Minnesota defeated 13th-seeded Northwestern by a 74-57 final, while 11th-seeded Indiana crushed 14th-seeded Nebraska to the tune of an 89-64 score.
In light of the increasing caution shown by leaders of the sports world, whether the Big Ten Tournament even continues remains a major question. But for now, let's assume that the show goes on. Thursday will see four second-round matchups, highlighted by the two late games: Ohio State vs. Purdue and Penn State vs. Indiana.
As the Big Ten projects to have 10 teams in the NCAA Tournament, per ESPN's Joe Lunardi, most of the conference tournament games after this round will likely feature outfits certain to see their names listed Sunday night.
Those aforementioned games, however, feature two bubble teams in Indiana (a member of Lunardi's Last Four In) and Purdue (a team mentioned in his Next Four Out), so they are of particular importance.

Game 11: Friday afternoon winners (1 p.m. ET, CBS) Game 12: Friday evening winners (3:30 p.m., CBS)
It bears repeating that the NCAA Tournament may be canceled, which would essentially render the results of the Big Ten Conference Tournament moot. However, as that has not happened, let's go forth with some predictions for Thursday's games.
The early game, featuring Rutgers (20-11) and Michigan (19-12), should be entertaining. The matchup to watch has to be the Wolverines offense, led by Zavier Simpson (12.9 PPG, 7.9 APG) and Isaiah Livers (12.9 PPG, 40.2 3PT%), against the Scarlet Knights' sixth-ranked defense, per KenPom. Michigan has scored 80 points 10 times this year, while Rutgers has limited opponents to fewer than 60 points 13 times.
The old adage about unstoppable forces and immovable objects seems to apply here, but we we will take Michigan based on its slightly more balanced roster and two regular-season victories over Rutgers.
That 8-9 battle is followed immediately up with Iowa taking on Minnesota, a matchup that the Hawkeyes are favored in by just one-and-a-half points despite arguably boasting the National Player of the Year in Luke Garza (23.9 PPG, 9.8 RPG, 1.8 BPG).
Despite playing the Hawkeyes close in their only matchup, losing 58-55 and boasting an ostensibly good matchup for him in Daniel Oturu (20.0 PPG, 11.4 RPG), the Golden Gophers should be considered heavy underdogs here. They have a losing record, have lost six of their past nine games and are one of the few teams in the Big Ten that needs to win the conference tournament to make it to March Madness.
As discussed, the latter two matchups of the slate may be the most interesting based on the status of two of the participating teams, but their opponents may have other ideas.
For instance, Purdue, despite needing a win over Ohio State to solidify its postseason credentials, should be considered a long shot to beat the Buckeyes. They lost by 16 points in Columbus in February and come into the conference tournament playing some of their worst ball of the season, losing five of their past seven games, whereas OSU has won six of eight, including wins over three ranked opponents.
However, Penn State taking on Indiana should be the best game of the day. The teams split the season series, with the Nittany Lions winning the first game by 15 points and the Hoosiers winning the second by eight points.
As the higher seed—and a team that was ranked for much of the season—Penn State might seem to have this one in the bag but has lost five of six. Indiana hasn't done much better, going just 3-3 over its past six games, but if it continues to be a top-30 defensive team the way it has all season under Archie Miller, then the Hoosiers might be able to pull an upset and kick off a nice little run through the Big Ten.
Nebraska HC Fred Hoiberg Releases Statement After Flu Diagnosis
Mar 11, 2020

Nebraska men's basketball coach Fred Hoiberg has been released from an Indianapolis hospital after leaving Wednesday night's Big Ten tournament opener early because of illness.
The coach was seen with his head bowed on the bench before leaving the arena. Assistant coach Doc Sadler coached the remainder of the game in Hoiberg's absence.
Jeff Goodman of Stadium reported Hoiberg was told to get checked out immediately after leaving the court.
The Nebraska men's basketball team was temporarily restricted from leaving their locker room at Bankers Life Arena following an 89-64 loss to Indiana, according to NCAA.com's Andy Katz. No one from the team was made available to the media or allowed back to the locker room.
Nebraska men’s basketball team is not leaving Bankers Life Arena. They were brought their food outside the locker room. They are not letting people back to the area now. I just walked back to the area here and they told me no one from Nebraska will be made available.
The 47-year-old coach was a college basketball icon at Iowa State, where he would return to coach for five years after a decade-long NBA career with the Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls and Minnesota Timberwolves. Once he started coaching in college, his second act began to take off. He led Iowa State to a Sweet 16 berth in 2013-14 but never finished better than second in the Big 12.
No matter, he quickly became one of the most sought-after coaches in basketball—a sweepstake the NBA eventually won.
Hoiberg left college to sign a five-year, $25 million deal with an aging Chicago Bulls core to try to make one last run with a roster featuring Jimmy Butler, Derrick Rose, Taj Gibson, Pau Gasol and Nikola Mirotic. The team finished 42-40, missed the playoffs and began a rebuild shortly after.
Three years into his tenure as Bulls coach, Hoiberg was fired after a 5-19 start to the 2018-19 season.
Hoiberg took the year off before winding back up where he had the most success: college basketball.
Nebraska hired Hoiberg on a seven-year, $25 million deal. His first season with the Cornhuskers, though, showed just how much the program lags behind the rest of the Big Ten. Hoiberg went 7-24 in the 2019-20 season, including just 2-18 in the conference, before the team's early exit in the Big Ten tournament Wednesday.

The 2020 Big Ten tournament opens Wednesday with the bottom four sides facing off against each other.
In most years, those contests would not carry much meaning, but the Indiana Hoosiers need to win to keep their NCAA men's basketball tournament hopes alive.
The Hoosiers are expected to blow past the Nebraska Cornhuskers in Wednesday's second game, which would set up a clash with Penn State Nittany Lions. A win over Penn State could eliminate any doubt about their presence in the Big Dance.
The first matchup pits the Minnesota Golden Gophers and Northwestern Wildcats against each other. The winner will face the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Minnesota has struggled recently with two wins in its last eight games, which ended its NCAA tournament hopes.
However, those two victories were over Nebraska and Northwestern by a combined 58 points.
The Golden Gophers defeated Northwestern by 26 points at Welsh-Ryan Arena February 23, which leads us to believe another blowout could be in the cards.
Minnesota's biggest advantage could come in the paint through Daniel Oturu, who racked up 22 points and 12 rebounds in the win over the Wildcats.
The sophomore center has consistently been in double figures all season, averaging 20 points and 11.4 rebounds per game. Oturu also shoots 56.2 percent from the field.
Northwestern can't focus solely on Oturu because the Golden Gophers have a pair of guards in Marcus Carr and Gabe Kalscheur who can do damage from three-point range.
In Sunday's win over Nebraska, the trio totaled 54 points, and Carr and Kalscheur went 12-for-16 from three-point range.
Richard Pitino's side may not make too much noise after the first round, but it has proved that it can at least handle the squads beneath it in the standings.
Indiana (-13.5) vs. Nebraska

Nebraska's 32-point loss to Minnesota could be a sign of things to come Wednesday.
The Huskers are dealing with roster issues after suspensions to guards Dachon Burke Jr. and Cam Mack.
Because they had so few available bodies, the Huskers added football players Noah Vedral and Brant Banks to the roster for the Big Ten tournament, per Sam McKewon of the Omaha World-Herald.
While those two may be terrific athletes, it is hard for any player to adjust to the speed of a college basketball game in a short period, if they even get in the game.
Fred Hoiberg's side has not won a Big Ten contest since January 7 and has lost six of its last seven by double digits.
The lone exception to that run was an overtime loss to Northwestern, who could join the Huskers on the way out of Indianapolis after the first round.
Indiana needs a confident performance to strum up some momentum going into more meaningful matchups.
The Hoosiers only beat Nebraska by eight points back in January, but the Huskers have gotten worse since then.
Expect big games out of Trayce Jackson-Davis, Devonte Green and Justin Smith, who are the top three scorers on the Hoosiers roster.
If they take advantage of Nebraska's poor defense, the Hoosiers will earn an opportunity to earn another resume-solidifying win against Penn State Thursday.
