Dain Talks Differences Between Triple H and Vince

Killian Dain was released as part of WWE's latest round of roster cuts last month after spending time both in NXT and on the main roster.

While Dain's main roster run as part of Sanity in 2018 and 2019 was brief, it gave him the unique opportunity to work with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon after having already worked alongside NXT founder Triple H.

In an interview with SportsKeeda's UnSKripted (h/t Felix Upton of Ringside News) on Tuesday, Dain compared the management styles of McMahon and Triple H:

"So, I would say Triple H is a little more hands-on a regular basis. So like, you will have way more access to Triple H for NXT than you would have Vince because Vince is--you take away the fact that like he is going to be the head of the shows and whatever like that--he is also the CEO of the company. So, you're asking; there's a very small window that he is going to be available to be seen. That is problematic, I guess, for some people because they want to barge in, and he might not be there. So, I understand that might be difficult for people.

"At the same time, it's like I can't imagine any other place in the world where you could actually go and have a conversation with the CEO of a company on a regular basis. So, you know, that's me coming at it from a different perspective. But for me, working under Triple H was great because I find it really easy talking to him. Easy to understand what he was looking for."

Dain's comments seem to echo what many have said about McMahon and Triple H, which comes as little surprise given their respective roles.

As Dain alluded to, McMahon is overseeing the entire company, which makes it difficult to get much face time with him. Conversely, Triple H is primarily focused on NXT, giving him more time to work closely with the talent on the black-and-gold brand.

Dain's greatest success undoubtedly came in NXT, where he held the NXT Tag Team Championships with Sanity teammates Eric Young and Alexander Wolfe before getting called up.

He returned to NXT in 2019 and had some memorable matches and moments during his second stint, including his odd-couple tag team with Drake Maverick.

The Northern Ireland native is now waiting to see what is next for him in pro wrestling, although he still has a link to WWE, as his wife, Nikki Cross, is part of the Raw roster.

Dreamer Provides Positive Update on Funk

ECW legend Tommy Dreamer took to Twitter on Tuesday to ease some of the concern that has built up for Terry Funk in recent days.

It was first reported by WWE Hall of Famer Don Muraco on Don Muraco's Magnificent Podcast (h/t H Jenkins of Ringside News) this week that Funk was in an assisted living home in Amarillo, Texas, and had been diagnosed with dementia.

The person who runs Funk's Twitter account later confirmed that the WWE Hall of Famer has been receiving residential care:

That led to an outpouring of support from concerned wrestlers and fans on social media, but Dreamer wanted to make it clear that the situation wasn't as bad as many assumed.

As part of a tweet Dreamer posted Tuesday, he noted that Funk is "not in bad health" after speaking to him on the phone:

Dreamer is one of many wrestlers who got the chance to work alongside Funk over the years, as they were both key figures in the rise of ECW.

The 77-year-old Funk is referred to by many as a hardcore legend, although he wrestled essentially every style imaginable and worked for almost every major company during his lengthy career.

After making his in-ring debut in 1965, Funk worked for the NWA, WWE, All Japan Pro Wrestling, WCW and ECW among other promotions.

Among his greatest accomplishments were holding the ECW and NWA World Heavyweight Championships, as well as the NWA United States Heavyweight Championship. He was also one half of the WWE tag team champions while working with Cactus Jack under the Chainsaw Charlie gimmick.

Funk wrestled matches as recently as 2017, giving him one of the longest and most storied careers in the history of pro wrestling.

While Dreamer wanted to assure everyone that Funk's situation isn't as dire as initially thought, some positives came out of the concern, as a wrestling legend was properly appreciated.

WWE Reportedly Has Major Plans for Strong

On the heels of his return to NXT two weeks ago as part of Diamond Mine, there are reportedly major plans in place for Roderick Strong.

According to Fightful Select (h/t WrestlingInc.com's Marc Middleton), Strong recently agreed to a new contract with WWE, and there are plans in place to make him a featured part of the cruiserweight division.

NXT reportedly wants to make the cruiserweight division a big part of the show moving forward, and using bigger names like Strong is part of the vision.

Strong and Diamond Mine debuted by attacking cruiserweight champion Kushida following his match against Kyle O'Reilly.

Along with Strong, Diamond Mine is comprised of Tyler Rust, Hideki Suzuki and manager Malcolm Bivens, who figures to serve as the mouthpiece for the group.

Strong achieved great success as part of a stable in NXT previously, holding the NXT Tag Team and North American Championships while he was in Undisputed Era.

Working with a great talker like Adam Cole helped hide any deficiencies Strong may have had in that area, and pairing him with Bivens should have a similar impact.

Strong and Kushida are widely regarded as two of the best in-ring workers in the world, and a feud between them for the Cruiserweight Championship could go a long way toward elevating the division.

AJ Styles on Retirement; WWE Rumors on Vince McMahon, Eva Marie, Chad Gable Contract

Styles Talks Outlasting Retirement Plans

At 44, AJ Styles has already far exceeded his own expectations for how long he would be an active wrestler.

In an interview with Ryan Satin of Fox Sports on the Out of Character podcast (h/t Felix Upton of Ringside News), the Raw Tag Team champion admitted he originally thought he would've been retired years ago, saying: "I remember thinking, 'I'll be 40 years old when I retire. That's when I'm gonna retire.' So I was dead wrong, by the way."

In 2019, The Phenomenal One said he had signed his final contract and called WWE the "perfect place for me to be."

The length of Styles' contract is unclear, but the two-time WWE champion remains a vital part of Raw and is still going strong two years after signing the extension.

Currently, Styles is in a tag team with Omos, and they are the reigning Raw Tag Team champions after having beaten New Day for the titles at WrestleMania.

Styles and Omos are now embroiled in a rivalry with The Viking Raiders that will culminate in a title match in two weeks on the first episode of Raw with fans in attendance in more than a year.

After that, all signs point to Styles and Omos potentially facing off with Randy Orton and Riddle at SummerSlam, which could be one of the biggest matches on the card.

It has been a while since Styles last held a world title, but he is a key member of the roster nonetheless and could easily be elevated into that spot at any time.

Given how valuable Styles is to the product, one can only assume WWE will do everything within its power to keep him in the fold for as long as possible.

McMahon Reportedly Enjoys Eva Marie-Doudrop Storyline

The Raw storyline involving Eva Marie and Doudrop reportedly has a big supporter in WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.

According to PWInsider (h/t WrestlingInc.com's Marc Middleton), McMahon initially wasn't sold on the angle and has since changed his mind. He especially "loved it" when Doudrop stood up to Eva a couple of weeks ago during a tag team match.

McMahon is also reportedly "super impressed" with Doudrop individually following her recent call-up from NXT UK.

Doudrop wrestled under the name Piper Niven in NXT UK, and there was some backlash among fans regarding her name change, although it all seems to be part of an angle that should result in her becoming a big-time babyface.

It was Eva who dubbed her "Doudrop," much to Piper's chagrin, and the story seems to be trending toward Doudrop eventually tiring of Eva, turning on her and possibly going back to her old name.

Eva has essentially been using Doudrop by having her win matches on her behalf only to announce herself as the winner afterward.

That was the case once again on Monday's Raw when Eva, Doudrop, Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax beat Asuka, Naomi, Alexa Bliss and Nikki A.S.H. in an eight-woman tag team match.

Provided McMahon is indeed a fan of Doudrop's work, the Scot could be in line for a big push to the top of the Raw women's division in the not-too-distant future.

Gable Reportedly Has 'Plenty of Time' Left on WWE Deal

Chad Gable's WWE contract reportedly isn't set to expire anytime soon.

According to Fightful Select (h/t Upton), there is "plenty of time" left on Gable's WWE deal despite some speculation to the contrary.

In March, AEW star Dax Harwood, who previously wrestled in WWE as Scott Dawson, tweeted the following at Gable:

In the tweet, Harwood said Gable couldn't respond to him publicly for two more months, implying that Gable's WWE contract was up in May.

Gable is still with WWE as the calendar has turned to July, and he is part of a consistent storyline on SmackDown that has seen him coach Otis into an unstoppable force.

Previously, Gable was part of the American Alpha tag team with Jason Jordan, and they held the Tag Team Championships together on both NXT and SmackDown.

While in NXT, Gable and Jordan had some great matches against The Revival, now known as FTR in AEW. Harwood was one half of The Revival along with Cash Wheeler, who went by Dash Wilder in WWE.

Gable and Otis are embroiled in a rivalry with another great tag team in The Street Profits, and it's possible they could find themselves in the SmackDown Tag Team title hunt soon.

Vince McMahon Reportedly Scouting Talent

Amid rumblings that the main roster could add an influx of talent from NXT, WWE chairman Vince McMahon is reportedly taking a close look at developmental talent.

Per Fightful Select (h/t Marc Middleton of Wrestling Inc.), McMahon has been scouting the WWE Performance Center as "part of a major scouting effort to replenish WWE's main roster, which has been hit recently with releases and repeat booking."

Even though WWE is in a great financial position thanks largely to its television contracts, there have been indications from the TV ratings that fans are bored with the direction of the product.

One problem with WWE booking for years is the constant reliance on rematches, even for feuds that don't seem to have any reason for them.

For example, Roman Reigns destroyed Edge and Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 37 to the point he stacked both of his opponents on top of each other for the pinfall to leave no doubt that he was better than both.

Friday night on SmackDown, Edge returned and is restarting his feud with Reigns because WWE has had the Head of the Table obliterate every other babyface on the roster and there's no one available to fight for the title at Money in the Bank.

McMahon has promised in the past to shake things up and stop relying on rematches only to fall back into his usual pattern of booking.

As long as he is serious about changing things this time, WWE has such a deep well of talent to mine from that there's no reason to think the company can't create several new top Superstars to liven things up.

Update on WWE Draft

Speaking of the current state of WWE's main roster, there remains a lot of chatter about the draft later this summer.

Andrew Zarian of Mat Men Pro Wrestling Podcast previously reported the draft is likely to take place Aug. 30 and Sept. 3.

According to PW Insider (h/t Middleton), several top NXT Superstars have been working dark matches on Raw and SmackDown in recent weeks "so that officials can get a better look at them as they prepare to call them up to the main roster."

The NXT stars who have been featured in dark matches lately include Karrion Kross, Scarlett, Bronson Reed and Shotzi Blackheart.

Kross and Scarlett, assuming WWE wants them as a duo on the main roster, would make the most sense for a call-up during the draft. He's been a dominant force on NXT since debuting in May 2020.

The entire presentation of Kross and Scarlett is one of the best things currently going in NXT. There's no clear top contender to challenge for the title after he defeated Pete Dunne, Kyle O'Reilly, Johnny Gargano and Adam Cole in a Fatal 5-Way match at NXT Takeover: In Your House.

Reed and Blackheart were two of NXT's breakout stars last year. Their star is clearly ascending, so it would make sense to maximize their value on the main roster as soon as possible.

Samoa Joe Talks WWE Release, Comeback

Samoa Joe had an eventful two-month period, starting in April when he was among 10 people released by WWE.

Two weeks ago, Joe returned to the company in NXT as William Regal's enforcer. Mike Johnson of PW Insider reported that Triple H led the effort to re-sign the two-time NXT champion.

Appearing on the Out of Character with Ryan Satin podcast (h/t Drew Rice of Wrestling Inc.), Joe called his release a "weird" situation that started with a call from WWE Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis:

"Johnny [Ace] called me, and I thought it was a rare call from Johnny. 'Hey, what's up Johnny? How are you doing?' and he told me, 'Hey listen, we're going to have to release you from your contract.' And I was like, 'Ok. Cool.' [And Johnny said], 'Hey Joe, we think the world of you and would love to work with you again.' And I was like, 'All right, absolutely Johnny.'"

Joe added that it was only "a few hours later" that Triple H called him to let him know that he wanted to bring him back.

"Then we had a brief conversation, which was essentially, 'Give us a bit of time, I'll work out a package and we'll be talking soon.' And I said, 'All right, that's totally fine. I have no problem with that.' And it led to my return back to NXT."

As for Joe's status as a wrestler, he hasn't competed since February 2020 when he suffered a concussion during a commercial shoot.

While it's unclear if Joe will be medically cleared to wrestle in WWE ever again, he said "yes" when asked by Satin if he was looking to resume his in-ring career at some point.

Roman vs. Rey Mysterio Expected at Hell in a Cell

Two weeks away from the upcoming Hell in a Cell pay-per-view, it appeared unclear who Roman Reigns would face in a match for his Universal championship. The storyline seemed to be pointing in the direction of cousin Jimmy Uso, but WWE is reportedly letting that potential match simmer.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reported Reigns is set to face off against Rey Mysterio at the event. The Head of the Table viciously attacked Rey and Dominik Mysterio midway through their match against The Usos on Friday's SmackDown.

While the beat down seemed more meant to send a message to Jimmy Uso, prolonging the storyline makes sense and Mysterio-Reigns should be a stellar in-ring dynamic.

Mysterio last wrestled The Fiend for the Universal title in a steel cage at a WWE live show in November 2019. His last televised match for one of WWE's top titles came in a loss to Brock Lesnar at the 2019 Survivor Series event.

Short SummerSlam Expected to Accomodate for Pacquiao Fight

WWE's SummerSlam pay-per-view is slated to bump up against Manny Pacquiao's return to the ring against Errol Spence Jr. on Aug. 21, with the two events taking place not only on the same night but in the same city (Las Vegas).

Meltzer reported WWE is expected to take the Pacquiao fight into mind when booking SummerSlam, putting together a shorter pay-per-view so that people can watch both events.

The main event of major boxing pay-per-views typically begin around midnight ET, so WWE shouldn't run into too many problems. However, if the company wants to make it possible for people to see both SummerSlam and Pacquiao in person, they'll likely need to ensure their event ends well before 11.

WWE currently has SummerSlam listed to begin at 8 p.m. ET. It'll be interesting to see if that's pushed ahead to 7 p.m. ET in order to accommodate Pacquiao and avoid any chance of an overrun.

Unlikely WWE Being Sold

Amid the massive group of talent released by WWE in recent months—most recently a number of wrestlers highlighted by star Braun Strowman—there was speculation across social media that the company could be cutting costs before a sale.

That does not appear to be the case.

Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics spoke to five WWE investors, all of whom said they do not expect Vince McMahon to sell his majority share in the company.

The more likely scenario is WWE's new management, headed by Nick Khan, is cutting costs after years of talent hoarding. It's been well-documented that Strowman's salary was a major reason behind his departure, and most of the other talent released topped out at the lower midcard.

Rather than paying these wrestlers to simply stay away from other companies, WWE's now cutting their losses and eyeing its own profitability.

Aleister Black Talks Relationship with Vince McMahon; WWE-NJPW and NXT Touring Rumors

Jun 4, 2021

Bleacher Report catches you up on the latest news from the WWE Universe.

Black Says Relationship with McMahon Was Positive

Following his surprising release from WWE on Wednesday, Aleister Black addressed several topics regarding his time with the company.

During a Twitch stream (h/t WrestlingInc.com's Jason Ounpraseuth), Black said that he had a good relationship with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon:

In all my conversations I've ever had with Vince, he was always very positive. I have a good relationship with Vince. I always told him how I felt. He always respected that about me. He always praised me on my creativity and my ability to have manners and respect, but still being honest with him about how I felt. You never truly know why things end the way they did. All I can tell you from my point of view and the word that I was always given was that Vince was always pretty high on me. I did well on television.

Black noted that the biggest issue was that he and WWE "could never really nail down what it is what we wanted Aleister to be on the main roster vs. what he was on NXT."

The timing of Black's release was shocking since he had recently returned to television after seven months away. It started with the airing of several vignettes followed by Black attacking Big E during an Intercontinental Championship Fatal 4-Way on SmackDown two weeks ago.

After Black was released Wednesday, he expressed his surprise in the following tweet:

While some released Superstars tend to hold a grudge and burn bridges on the way out, that hasn't been the case for the former NXT champion.

In addition to having nice things to say about McMahon Black praised the creative team, as well as WWE Executive Director Bruce Prichard and Paul Heyman.

As of now, it seems like Black's wrestling career will continue elsewhere such as AEW, Impact Wrestling or New Japan Pro-Wrestling, but based on Black's comments, the door may be open for a return to WWE down the line.

Details Regarding Potential Working Relationship Between WWE and NJPW

Additional details regarding negotiations between WWE and New Japan Pro-Wrestling for a working relationship came to light this week.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t WrestlingInc.com's Marc Middleton), who first reported on the talks last week, WWE President and Chief Revenue Officer Nick Khan was not the one who conceived the talks.

Meltzer noted that there is some belief that Khan was suggested to McMahon as the one who should lead the negotiations between WWE and NJPW.

Also, Meltzer reported that while free-agent Daniel Bryan was a major subject of the talks when they first started in March or April, that has not been the case during more recent discussions.

PWInsider (h/t Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats) reported last week that Bryan was initially the "main crux" of the WWE-NJPW talks, as WWE was hoping to re-sign him with the promise of allowing him to work some matches for New Japan.

Another new piece of information provided by Meltzer on Friday was that a WWE-NJPW partnership would likely relate to NXT more so than top NJPW stars appearing on WWE's main roster.

Meltzer added that NJPW "will not agree to any deal unless they feel like it’s extremely beneficial to them."

Currently, NJPW has a working relationship with both AEW and Impact Wrestling, so making WWE its exclusive North American partner would mean terminating those relationships, as well as the one it has with AAA.

AEW President Tony Khan cut a tongue-in-cheek promo on Nick Khan last week regarding the New Japan negotiations, suggesting that Tony Khan doesn't believe WWE will pry NJPW away:

Working with WWE would give NJPW the biggest possible platform, although there may be some concern within NJPW ranks about how New Japan wrestlers would be presented in WWE given WWE's history of putting its own talent over those who made a name for themselves in other companies.

NXT Reportedly Returning to Touring Soon

WWE has announced that it is returning to touring in front of fans beginning July 16, and NXT reportedly may not be far behind.

According to Meltzer (h/t Middleton), NXT wrestlers have been informed that touring for the black and gold brand will resume in July as well.

Meltzer added that the NXT touring loops will run through Central and Northern Florida, as was the case before the COVID-19 pandemic put a stop to touring last year.

NXT live events were a huge deal for Performance Center recruits lacking experience performing in front of live crowds, which is something they have now lacked for over a year.

Since those training at the Performance Center aren't yet television ready, it was difficult for them to ply their trade over the past year, as very few of them have been featured on NXT's two-hour weekly show.

Touring also allows lesser-known wrestlers to build up a fanbase, which is something that can lead to them getting an opportunity on television.

As the world trends toward normalcy, WWE is as well, and that means fans will once again get to enjoy live wrestling both from the main roster and NXT.

In the wake of another round of talent cuts Wednesday, speculation is running rampant that WWE may be preparing for a sale of the company.

Speaking about the issue on Wrestling Observer Live (beginning at the 8:00 mark), Bryan Alvarez said "everybody believes" WWE President and Chief Revenue Officer Nick Khan is preparing WWE to be sold because of recent budget cuts.

Alvarez said he has spoken to people inside and outside WWE, all of whom believe a sale may be in the works.

WWE has been under the leadership of Vincent K. McMahon since 1982, but now that he is getting up there in age at 75, a sale may not be completely out of the question.

Alvarez noted that both Aleister Black and Alexander Wolfe have publicly said they were told budget cuts were responsible for their WWE departures. It is a curious reason given that WWE is making more money than ever thanks to billion-dollar television deals with Fox and NBC Universal.

WWE released several notable names shortly after WrestleMania in April, including Samoa Joe, Mickie James, Peyton Royce and Billie Kay.

On Wednesday, some of the releases were even more surprising, as Braun Strowman, Black, Lana, Murphy, Ruby Riott and Santana Garrett were released from their contracts.

That came after WWE reportedly made sweeping layoffs last week in an effort to consolidate its television and digital divisions, per Deadline's Mike Fleming Jr.

On the subject of talent releases, Strowman was likely the most shocking one Wednesday since he held the Universal Championship less than a year ago and was in a Triple Threat match for the WWE Championship against Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre last month.

According to Fightful Select (h/t WrestlingInc.com's Marc Middleton), Strowman signed a "monster deal" in 2019 worth over $1 million per year. Because of that, his release resulted in significant savings for the company.

While a sale is possible, Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics expressed his belief that the cuts are more about Khan and WWE Chief Financial Officer Kristina Salen balancing out some unnecessary decisions made by the previous regime.

Thurston noted that there were 300 wrestlers under contract with WWE in 2020, which is far more than the company can use on a consistent basis. With WWE unable to use a large portion of its roster, paring it down to save money and create more opportunities for others is a logical move.

Rumors of a WWE sale have popped up here and there for the past several years. Nothing has come of those rumors to this point, but if McMahon does want to sell, there is no question he has WWE in an advantageous financial position that could appeal to potential buyers.

Jim Ross Reveals Vince McMahon's Reaction to 1st Seeing Brock Lesnar

May 19, 2021
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - OCTOBER 11: WWE champion Brock Lesnar speaks during a WWE news conference at T-Mobile Arena on October 11, 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Current AEW and former longtime WWE announcer Jim Ross divulged this week that WWE Chairman Vince McMahon had proverbial stars in his eyes the first time he saw Brock Lesnar.

In an interview with Alex McCarthy of TalkSport, Ross discussed the time that he brought Lesnar backstage at a WWE taping in Minneapolis while he and Gerald Brisco were attempting to recruit Lesnar into the company.

Regarding Vince's first encounter with Lesnar, Ross said:

"So when Vince laid eyes on him he knew that we had the guy. If he had any aptitude whatsoever–we knew athletically he was going to be great, he'd already proven himself as an athlete–but if he could get the showbiz side of it and have the aptitude to be a pro wrestler, he was going to be our guy for a while. And that worked out."

Ross noted that McMahon had never seen Lesnar before that night and "bee-lined" for the collegiate wrestling champion as soon as he caught a glimpse.

McMahon, Ross and Brisco were on the money with Lesnar, as he made his WWE debut in 2002, was paired with Paul Heyman and instantly became known as The Next Big Thing.

Lesnar went on to win the WWE Championship at age 25, just 126 days after his debut, and he has since established himself as one of the top stars in the history of the business.

Brock's first run with WWE was brief, as it lasted from 2002 to 2004, but he returned in 2012 and has been a top attraction since.

Overall, The Beast Incarnate is a five-time WWE champion, three-time Universal champion and one-time winner of the Royal Rumble, Money in the Bank and King of the Ring.

Lesnar has not competed in a WWE ring since WrestleMania 36 last year and is a free agent, but if McMahon feels WWE needs a boost, one can only assume he will place some calls to Brock.

Lesnar has become one of McMahon's most trusted, consistent performers over the years, and based on JR's account, Vince always envisioned big things for the extraordinary athlete.

Miz Reportedly Suffers Torn ACL

The Miz reportedly suffered the first major injury of his career Sunday during a Lumberjack match against Damian Priest at WrestleMania Backlash.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that The Miz suffered a torn ACL on a spot that saw Priest land on him:

Meltzer noted that the severity of the tear isn't yet known, and that WWE is hopeful it is only a partial tear. If the tear is full, The Miz could be out anywhere from six months to a year.

The Miz, 40, has often mentioned over the years that his in-ring style has helped him avoid injury. That is why he has barely missed any time since making his full-fledged main roster debut in 2006 aside from taking hiatuses to film movies.

Now, The Miz potentially faces a long road back, which is something he has never dealt with during what has undoubtedly been a Hall of Fame career.

It wasn't long ago that The Miz became a two-time WWE champion earlier this year at Elimination Chamber. Although he dropped it to Bobby Lashley the next week, it made Miz WWE's first-ever double Grand Slam champion.

Since then, Miz has been a key cog in Raw's midcard, feuding with Priest. He was also part of one of the most surprisingly good matches at WrestleMania, losing a tag match alongside John Morrison to Priest and Grammy-winning musician Bad Bunny.

The Miz has long been one of the most versatile and reliable Superstars WWE has to offer, and if he is forced to miss months of action, it will represent a huge loss for the company.

Ziggler Talks Relationship with Vince McMahon

Dolph Ziggler made his WWE main roster debut nearly 16 years ago, and during that time, he has built a strong connection with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.

Appearing on Out Of Character with Ryan Satin of Fox Sports (h/t Fightful's Robert DeFelice), Ziggler provided some inside information regarding his relationship with Vince:

"There is a trust that so few of your favorites have that I have and it's wild because, without complaining, I'm not the main event guy at the moment and a lot of times when it comes to something special, I'm the guy just a match away or so. But I know from that relationship--and, you have to earn it and it's not just, ‘I earned this a few years ago and now I'm fine.’ You've got to re-earn it every day, and I do. If I mess up, which I do all the time, I say, 'I screwed this up, it's on me. I will fix it for next time.'

"Even though those years, I would say of the 15 [years], eight, or nine of them felt like man, 'Vince hates my f'n guts. What the hell is happening here?' Then, there are those five or six where you go, 'I get it now. He's pushing me, he's challenging me because only I can do these things,' and I'm very blessed to be doing them and still kicking ass doing them."

While Ziggler has rarely been on top during his career, with the exception of two brief World Heavyweight Championship reigns, he has remained relevant in WWE for a remarkably long time.

The Showoff is a six-time intercontinental champion and two-time United States champion, and more recently he has thrived in a tag team alongside Robert Roode.

Prior to dropping the SmackDown Tag Team Championships to Rey and Dominik Mysterio at WrestleMania Backlash on Sunday, Ziggler and Roode held them for an impressive 127 days.

Ziggler is of great value to WWE due to his ability to do anything asked of him and do it well. That ranges anywhere from facing Seth Rollins in a 30-minute Iron Man match at Extreme Rules 2018 to losing to Goldberg in a few minutes at SummerSlam 2019.

Even at 40 years of age, Ziggler remains one of the best in-ring performers in the world, which is likely why he continues to be utilized regularly.

Earning McMahon's trust is an important thing for any WWE Superstar, and the fact that Ziggler has it means he can likely continue wrestling for WWE for as long as he wants to.

Angle Recalls 2006 Fight Between Booker T and Batista

One of the most famous backstage fights in professional wrestling history occurred back in 2006 between Booker T and Batista.

On a recent episode of the Kurt Angle Show (h/t WrestlingInc.com's Marco Rovere), WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle discussed the fight and what he remembers about it:

"I was there after the fight ended. I heard what occurred, Batista got there for a commercial shoot, I think it was for SummerSlam, and someone approached him and Batista said, 'Hey, when are you coming over to SmackDown because I have nobody to work with.' Booker took that as wait a minute, I'm on SmackDown? There's a lot of people to work with. I think Batista was just saying, because there were a lot of injuries going on and it was getting a little bare at the top and he was just trying to tell the person I'd love you to come over and work a program with you.

"I don't think it was anything personal against Booker T or anyone else on SmackDown. Batista said it and Booker confronted him and now the situation got hotter. Now Booker confronts Batista, makes Batista look like an idiot, Batista confronts Booker and now they end in a fight competition. The fight occurred, I got there afterward, I saw Booker T had a black eye and Batista was a little banged up and I just thought it was a big misunderstanding. I know they apologized afterward and made up and did whatever they had to do to move on, they just misunderstood each other about the whole situation. It was a shame, it didn't have to happen."

Booker T and Batista were two of WWE's biggest stars in 2006, which is likely why their fight has been talked about so often by wrestling fans over the past 15 years.

Both Booker and Batista made their mark on SmackDown and carved out Hall of Fame careers for themselves, and it doesn't appear as though any bad blood exists between them.

By all accounts, things have mellowed significantly in the WWE locker room in recent years, but fights were commonplace once upon a time. Based on Angle's memory, the Booker vs. Batista clash was simply a misunderstanding that was solved quite quickly.

Vince McMahon TV Project in the Works

Filmmakers Studio has sent out a casting call for a new television show focused on longtime WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.

According to WrestlingInc.com's Marc Middleton, the working title of the project is No Chance: The Vince McMahon Story and The Rise of the New Wrestling World Order, and it will be directed by Joseph Krueger.

The casting call is asking only for interested parties to audition as host of the show. Other details regarding the show and its format are sparse.

As part of the casting call, Filmmakers Studio wrote, "This isn't a movie but a review retrospective that will dig deep in learning not only about Vince McMahon's adversaries but how he outsmarted them all in associating USA Pro Wrestling with the World Wrestling Federation."

Based on the wording, the project may be a documentary or documentary series focused on McMahon purchasing WWE from his father in 1982 and bringing it from a northeastern regional promotion to a national and international power in sports entertainment.

In doing so, McMahon essentially destroyed the territory system that had been commonplace in American wrestling for decades.

Based on the casting call, it stands to reason that the show may feature interviews with those related to the promotions that went out of business during the rise of McMahon and WWE, such as AWA, Mid-Atlantic and World Class Championship Wrestling, among others.

The project does not appear to be formally attached to WWE, meaning the possibility exists for a more thorough and complete story to be told.

Heyman Says Lesnar Doesn't Want to Face Reigns

Paul Heyman addressed Brock Lesnar's WWE status during an interview with DAZN on Thursday.

When asked about the possibility of his former client returning to face his current client, Universal champion Roman Reigns, Heyman responded:

If Brock Lesnar were to return, if is a hypothetical. Brock Lesnar does what Brock Lesnar wants to do. How you can be cognizant of the fact that Brock Lesnar does not want to challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship, or at least not yet, is because he hasn't done it. Because if Brock Lesnar wanted to [do] it, it would have happened already. And it hasn't happened already because he doesn't want to.

Heyman has been in Lesnar's corner for the vast majority of Brock's WWE career, but since Lesnar's contract expired after WrestleMania 36 last year, Heyman has been attached to a different star.

In August, it was revealed that Heyman was the new special counsel to Reigns, who turned heel for the first time since his initial WWE debut as part of The Shield.

The package of Reigns, Heyman and Jey Uso has been a highly successful one, as Reigns is in the midst of the best, most dominant and most entertaining run of his career.

Given Heyman's deep, long-term connection with Lesnar, it has been assumed by fans that Lesnar will may eventually return to WWE and work with Heyman again.

The possibilities are intriguing as Lesnar could either work side by side with Reigns and Heyman or perhaps be on Raw with Heyman in his corner, while Heyman simultaneously manages Reigns on Raw. The other option would be for Lesnar to oppose Reigns and Heyman.

Lesnar and Reigns have faced each other at WrestleMania twice before, but a feud between them this time around would be different since Reigns is now a heel.

Heyman suggests that Lesnar isn't interested in facing Reigns right now, but if that changes in the future, one would think that WWE would jump at the opportunity to make it happen.

Mickie James Talks WWE Sending Belongings in Trash Bag

Mickie James once again spoke about WWE sending her back her belongings in a trash bag during an interview on Oral Sessions with Rene Paquette this week:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxUhT6zE4yk?start=4s

James went viral a couple weeks ago when she posted a photo of the trash bag WWE used to return her items after the company released her from her contract:

James further explained her thoughts on Oral Sessions, saying: "I don't even feel it was something malicious or anything like that. It's just like, kind of thoughtless and tone deaf, that's all."

After James tweeted the photo of the trash bag, both Triple H and Stephanie McMahon tweeted apologies and noted that the person responsible had been fired:

WrestlingInc.com's Raj Giri later reported that longtime WWE senior director of talent relations Mark Carrano was fired over the incident.

Many former WWE women's Superstars and employees have subsequently said they were sent their belongings in trash bags after leaving the company as well, including Paquette, who was an interviewer and announcer under the name Renee Young.

James seems ready to move on from the situation, and she could have a lot of exciting things ahead of her now that she is able to explore the other options available to her.

The 41-year-old veteran had largely been phased out of a wrestling role in WWE, but with companies such as AEW, Impact Wrestling, Ring of Honor and NWA scooping up talent, there is a good chance she will be able to continue her in-ring career in the near future.
