AEW Rampage Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from August 12

Welcome to Bleacher Report's coverage and recap of AEW Rampage: Quake by the Lake on August 12.

After losing to Daniel Garcia in a shocking upset, Bryan Danielson returned this week to address his situation. We also heard from the new FTW champion, Hook, and the AEW tag team champions, Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee.

Speaking of tag teams, The Gunn Club was in action against Danhausen and Erick Redbeard, and newlyweds Sammy Guevara and Tay Conti took on Dante Martin and Skye Blue.

Sonny Kiss also got some TV time this week in a match against Parker Boudreaux, and Orange Cassidy faced Ari Daivari.

Let's look at what went down during Friday's Quake by the Lake episode of Rampage.

Rampage usually opens with a match ready to go, but this week saw Danielson come out to address the crowd. He said he would never willingly stop wrestling, so Daniel Garcia came out and threatened to end his career for him.

Danielson said Garcia was one of the best young talents he has seen in years before Chris Jericho got in his ear. This segment was outstanding and hyped up their eventual rematch perfectly. It was short and sweet but allowed both men to say everything they needed to say.

Grade: A

The first match of the night was a mixed tag match with Guevara and Melo taking on Martin and Blue. This was for the AAA mixed tag titles, which was the first time they were ever defended in AEW.

Melo and Guevara played the annoying newlyweds to perfection. It helped get the crowd to cheer for Blue and Martin even more than it would have based off their own popularity.

The match ended up being good but not great. There were some timing issues between Melo and Blue that led to a few moves looking awkward. They don't have a lot of experience working together, but Martin and Guevara turned up the heat whenever they got in the ring.

Melo was able to get the win for her team with the TayKO to Blue. Even with a slight lack of chemistry in some areas, this was a fun outing.

Winners: Sammy Guevara and Tay Melo

Grade: C+

Notable Moments and Observations

• The mixed tag titles have a nice design. They look much better than the AAA tag titles FTR has been carrying around for a little while. 
• Blue moves around the ring well, but her strikes need some work. It's too obvious she is holding back. She needs to figure out how to make them look realistic without hurting her opponents, and she'll be fine. 
• The camera misses Guevara shoving Melo out of the way so Martin wouldn't hit her with a suicide dive. 
• Martin jumping off of Melo's back to hit a Canadian destroyer on Guevara was a fun spot. 

The next match featured one of AEW's newest acquisitions taking on someone who has been there since the start when Boudreaux took on Kiss.

This match was over in less than a minute and saw the powerhouse formerly known as Harland in NXT score an easy win.

While it makes sense to push Boudreaux this way, it would have been nice to see Kiss get in a little more offense.

Winner: Parker Boudreaux

Grade: D

Notable Moments and Observations

• Sonny got a jobber entrance, which is unfortunate because a lot of people were excited to see Kiss perform this week. 
• Ari Daivari looks like he is having fun as a manager. 

Austin and Colten Gunn squared off against the pairing of Danhausen and Erick Redbeard on this week's show.

This match had quite a bit of comedy, which is to be expected whenever Danhausen is involved. Redbeard would take care of the powerhouse spots whenever he was in the ring, but most of this was the Gunns trying to hurt Danhausen for giving them the Assboys nickname.

Danhausen was on defense most of the time, but Redbeard would take over whenever he tagged in. Billy Gunn pulled the top rope down to take out Redbeard so his sons could take out Danhausen to score the win.

The Gunns looked good, but this match was nothing to write home about. It was good, but not memorable.

Winners: The Gunn Club

Grade: C

Notable Moments and Observations

• AEW should sign Redbeard. He could be a fun addition to the roster. This company could use a few more big guys like him. 
• The big man looked like he was in the best shape of his life. He has slimmed down since the last time he appeared in AEW. 
• The double suplex to both members of The Gunn Club was a nice spot. 

Slim J and Boudreaux accompanied Daivari for his main event match against Cassidy. As usual, The Best Friends were there to support Cassidy and keep things fair outside the ring.

Daivari tried to talk Cassidy into losing on purpose so he could join The Trustbusters, but Freshly Squeezed just messed with him a bit instead.

This match followed the same pattern as just about every bout Cassidy is in. He jokes around a bit, his opponent controls the offense for most of the match, and then Cassidy makes his comeback. The predictability of how this would play out is one of the downsides of being a comedic performer most of the time.

As OC began to build up some momentum, the people at ringside began to get involved. Cassidy saved Best Friends from Boudreaux, but it gave Daivari a chance to recover. Still, it wasn't enough to keep Cassidy from scoring the win with The Orange Punch.

Sonny came out to stand next to Cassidy as he had a standoff with Boudreaux, but then Kiss turned around and kicked OC below the belt to officially join The Trustbusters. The show ended with Daivari celebrating with his group.

Winner: Orange Cassidy

Grade: C+

Notable Moments and Observations

• Cassidy's entrance music is just about as over with the crowd as he is. 
• The way Slim J wears his visor hasn't been cool since the '80s. It might not have even been cool back then. It's just bad. 
• Whoever made Daivari's tights did a great job. The design on the side was very intricate. 
• Cassidy's tornado DDT almost always looks good.
