Yankees Prospects Who Can Still Make an MLB Impact in 2022
Yankees Prospects Who Can Still Make an MLB Impact in 2022

The New York Yankees have been the best team in baseball through two-plus months, and there is no glaring hole on their roster.
That said, they could still get positive contributions from some of their top prospects before the season is over, whether it's in a supporting role or stepping into an opportunity created by injury.
Ahead, we've highlighted three prospects who can still make an MLB impact in 2022, focusing solely on players who have not yet appeared in the majors this year.
Prospects who have already seen MLB action in 2022: OF Estevan Florial, RHP Luis Gil, RHP Clarke Schmidt, LHP JP Sears
IF Oswald Peraza

Oswald Peraza hit .297/.356/.477 with 46 extra-base hits and 38 steals in 115 games over three minor league levels last year, closing out the season at Triple-A.
The 22-year-old is back at Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre to begin the 2022 season where he's hitting .216/.286/.353 with 14 extra-base hits, 14 steals and a 24.3 percent strikeout rate.
Currently No. 53 on our updated Top 100 prospect list, Peraza is working on a run of three straight multi-hit games as he seems to be turning a corner.
While he has played primarily at shortstop, he has also seen time at second base, and he could be used in a utility role in his first MLB action.
LHP Ken Waldichuk
A fifth-round pick in 2019, Ken Waldichuk was one of the breakout pitching prospects of the 2021 season, posting a 3.03 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 163 strikeouts in 110 innings between High-A and Double-A.
The 6'4" southpaw has continued to impress in the upper levels of the minors this year, going 5-1 with a 1.44 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 78 strikeouts in 50 innings.
With a polished four-pitch repertoire that includes a mid-90s fastball, a sweeping slider and a good changeup, he climbed to No. 69 on our most recent Top 100 prospect list after starting the year unranked.
Whether it's a multi-inning relief role or stepping into a rotation spot should injury strike, Waldichuk is waiting in the wings to bolster the staff.
RHP Hayden Wesneski

Right-hander Hayden Wesneski climbed to No. 6 on the Yankees top prospect list in our most recent farm system rankings, and there's a solid case to be made that he's the top pitching prospect in the system outside of Ken Waldichuk.
The 24-year-old has a 3.32 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and a .183 opponents' batting average in 57 innings at Triple-A.
He doesn't miss many bats, with only 49 strikeouts for 7.7 K/9 rate, but he throws a ton of strikes and gets good natural sink on his fastball, which helps him keep it in the ballpark.
At this point, Wesneski doesn't have much left to prove in the minors.
