Impact Wrestling Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Analysis from June 2

The road to Slammiversary on June 19 continued Thursday night when Impact Wrestling presented its latest weekly episode, headlined by a star-studded main event in which former world champion Moose teamed with Steve Maclin to battle W. Morrissey and PCO.
That blockbuster bout capped off a card that also featured tag team action pitting Heath and Rhino against Honor No More's Matt Taven and Mike Bennett, a singles battle between Mia Yim and Savannah Evans, and Matthew Rehwoldt's return to the squared circle against former world and X-Division champ Rich Swann.
Who built the ever-important momentum as one of the biggest events of the year draws near? Find out now with this recap of the June 2 episode.
Savannah Evans vs. Mia Yim

Mia Yim may have an opportunity to capture the Knockouts Championship in the first-ever Knockouts King of the Mountain Match at Slammiversary, but she first had to overcome the challenge of Savannah Evans, who was accompanied to the ring by titleholder Tasha Steelz.
Evans dominated the match, overwhelming Yim with her strength advantage, and she appeared to have a win in hand by way of a Fisherman's Suplex late on. Yim fought back, though, and defeated her less experienced opponent with Eat Defeat.
The match was more competitive than expected, with Evans shining bright against a high-profile opponent. Yim probably could have stood to establish herself as a force entering the pay-per-view, but she did score the win, so there is that.
The presence of Steelz and later Jordynne Grace at ringside suggests a tag team match featuring the four women may be on the horizon ahead of the PPV.

Top Highlights
- Deonna Purrazzo joined Tom Hannifan on commentary for the match, yet another competitor slated for the Slammiversary title bout.
- Yim's entrance is that of a star, but her presentation in this match wasn't. She sold too much for her opponent.
- Grace joined Yim after the bell, ensuring Steelz and Evans did not try to get the jump on the victor.
Kenny King vs. Blake Christian

A backstage confrontation between Honor No More's Kenny King and Blake Christian a week ago, in which the former spoke condescendingly to the latter, led to Thursday's second match.
The bout was wildly competitive and a great showcase for the talented Christian. He may have succumbed to King's Royal Flush finisher, but he showed up in another opportunity to impress in a major promotion.
King's victory continues Honor No More's much-needed recent winning streak and sets him up as a threat to win the X-Division Championship in Ultimate X on June 19.
Christian will be a major player in the division sooner rather than later, but with King already slated for a substantial PPV spot, the right guy went over in this energetic encounter.

- Former X-Division champion Trey Miguel joined Hannifan on commentary and admitted to instigating the events that led to the match.
- Christian's low, bottom-rope 619 was a cool spot and a nice twist on the classic move.
- Christian's frog splash from the top rope, across the back of King as he was draped over the same rope, was a brilliant creative moment that popped the crowd.
Matthew Rehwoldt vs. Rich Swann

The issues between Matthew Rehwoldt and former world champion Rich Swann began during the Gauntlet for the Gold on May 12, when The Drama King emerged from the announce position and cost his rival a shot at regaining the top prize in Impact.
They settled their differences Thursday in a competitive match that reminded the audience of Rehwoldt's talents between the ropes. The former NXT tag team champion never looked out of place as he controlled the middle portion of the bout.
Ultimately, though, it was the accomplished Swann who delivered a middle-rope Phoenix Splash for the pinfall victory.
This was a good contest that earned Swann a solid victory as he reembarks on a singles career, but one has to wonder what the point of reintroducing Rehwoldt to the squared circle is if he loses in his first match back.
Maybe the feud continues past this bout. If not, though this felt like the most random booking decision.

- Swann's Phoenix Splash is just...pretty. He lands it perfectly every match and this was no different, crashing dead-center on Rehwoldt's midsection. He is as smooth a worker as there is in Impact, and it will be nice to see him return to relevancy in a company he once championed.
The Good Brothers and Briscoes Intensify Their Rivalry

The Good Brothers hit the ring for a promo segment in which they revealed they will challenge for the Impact World Tag Team Championship against The Briscoes at Slammiversary.
After running down their list of accomplishments and playing a video package which included their win over Jay and Mark at Multitude of Matches, The Briscoes interrupted.
A tense verbal exchange ended with the champions getting the better of Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows and standing tall to close out the segment.
The Good Brothers are hugely entertaining on the mic. They have great timing, know when to splice in the comedy and are fantastic antagonists. Meanwhile, The Briscoes are straight men with a no-nonsense approach. The teams play off each other well and should have an intensely physical match come June 19.
Whether Impact books The Good Brothers to go over in a major tag title match yet again or is prepared to let The Briscoes run with the straps for a while is the question.

- Gallows and Anderson ran down the famous arenas and cities they have competed in and their achievements before mentioning Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where they earned "greatest tag team ever" recognition at WWE Crown Jewel in 2019. "We got a trophy for that one," Anderson said as delightfully sarcastically as possible.
Mike Bennett and Matt Taven vs. Heath and Rhino

Honor No More set out to continue their winning ways and further assert themselves in the Impact Tag Team Championship picture as Matt Taven and Mike Bennett battled Rhino and Heath.
The heels cut the ring off, isolating Heath from his partner for the majority of the bout. A much-needed hot tag from the West Virginian to his man-beast partner sparked a babyface comeback and had the popular tandem rolling.
However, a determined and opportunistic Taven delivered the Climax for the pinfall and hard-fought victory.
The match was fine for what it was and highlighted the tandem formerly known as The Kingdom in Ring of Honor as they scored a significant victory. A post-match beatdown of Rhino, which left the former world champion nursing a left knee injury heightened the element of danger surrounding Honor No More and set them on a collision course with Heath and The Motor City Machine Guns, who came to the aid of their fellow Michigander.
A backstage segment saw Scott D'Amore grant Alex Shelley, Chris Sabin and a cameoing Frankie Kazarian a match with Honor No More, with the only caveat being that their two mystery teammates have to be current or former Impact competitors.
That's an intriguing hook, and the presence of Kazarian is welcome as it gives Impact the All Elite Wrestling rub and highlights one of the forefathers of the X-Division as the company prepares to celebrate its 20th year.

- Eddie Edwards sat in on commentary and again reminded Hannifan that his actions can be traced back to the lack of respect he feels from Impact, starting with the world title match he was never rightfully given against Kenny Omega in 2021.
- Honor No More brutally targeted the knee of Rhino, essentially writing the veteran competitor out of the show for the time being.
Moose and Steve Maclin vs. W. Morrissey and PCO

A star-studded match consisting of four of the final five competitors in the Gauntlet for the Gold saw Moose and Steve Maclin battle W. Morrissey and Honor No More's PCO.
The unlikely latter tandem controlled early on, but the heels focused on the left knee of Morrissey and seized control from there.
A hot tag to PCO brought about an action-packed conclusion that saw him wipe out the competition with reckless abandon, only for Maclin to put Morrissey away for the win.
After the match, Sami Callihan appeared and laid out Moose before standing tall to close out the show.
The bout was a hard-fought affair that highlighted all four competitors before bestowing the win on Maclin. The former Forgotten Son has made the most of his Impact run and is as prominent a star as he has ever been. That his performances have supported the trust officials have placed in him only helps strengthen the possibility for a sustained run at or near the top of the card.
Callihan is fantastic, the crowd loves him and a match with Moose at Slammiversary will be the perfect reintroduction for The Death Machine to the main event scene.
This was Morrisey's final match with Impact, according to a report by PWInsider.com (h/t Cain A. Knight of Cageside Seats) and it was fitting that a man who rehabilitated his star and reputation put over a guy like Maclin who can help fill his spot as a main event attraction.
