Fantasy Football Week 8 Rankings: Flex and PPR Outlook for Each Position

Giants RB Saquon Barkley
Giants RB Saquon Barkley

Week 8 of the NFL season is underway, and for fantasy managers injuries and bye weeks will be significant factors.

Players ruled out this week include Chuba Hubbard, James Conner, Michael Thomas, Jarvis Landry, Corey Davis, Ja'Marr Chase and Deebo Samuel. Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is doubtful, while both the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers are on bye. This means that fantasy standouts like Travis Kelce and Austin Ekeler will be unavailable.

Many managers will need to turn to the bench and the waiver wire in Week 8, and we're here to help. Below, you'll find the latest point-per-reception (PPR) rankings for each key position, a flex cheat sheet and some late-week waiver-wire targets.

Quarterback

Marcus Mariota
Marcus Mariota

1. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills

2. Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles

3. Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals

4. Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals

5. Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins

6. Kirk Cousins, Minnesota Vikings

7. Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys

8. Daniel Jones, New York Giants

9. Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders

10. Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars

Waiver Target: Marcus Mariota, QB, Atlanta Falcons

With both Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert on bye this week, managers may be scrambling to add a quarterback at the last minute. Though not a consistent high-end option, Marcus Mariota of the Atlanta Falcons should be a serviceable fill-in.

Mariota brings dual-threat ability to the position, which should provide a solid floor in most formats. In Week 7, for example, he threw for just 124 yards and a touchdown, but he also rushed for 31 yards. In Week 6, he tossed two touchdown passes and ran for 50 yards with a touchdown.

The Carolina Panthers have allowed just 4.1 yards per carry this season, but they've also surrendered an average of just over 21 points per game. This isn't the spiciest matchup, but it's not a terrible one either.

Expect Mariota to put a couple of touchdowns on the board while giving fantasy managers a few bonus points with his legs. He's rostered in only 26 percent of Yahoo leagues and 24 percent of ESPN leagues.

Running Back

Latavius Murray
Latavius Murray

1. Saquon Barkley, New York Giants

2. Derrick Henry, Tennessee Titans

3. Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers

4. Josh Jacobs, Las Vegas Raiders

5. Kenneth Walker III, Seattle Seahawks

7. Nick Chubb, Cleveland Browns

8. Alvin Kamara, New Orleans Saints

9. Tony Pollard, Dallas Cowboys

10. Joe Mixon, Cincinnati Bengals

11. Jonathan Taylor, Indianapolis Colts

12. Travis Etienne Jr., Jacksonville Jaguars

13. Dalvin Cook, Minnesota Vikings

14. Dameon Pierce, Houston Texans

15. Rhamondre Stevenson, New England Patriots

16. Aaron Jones, Green Bay Packers

17. D'Andre Swift, Detroit Lions

18. Miles Sanders, Philadelphia Eagles

19. Michael Carter, New York Jets

20. Raheem Mostert, Miami Dolphins

Waiver Target: Latavius Murray, RB, Denver Broncos

With Hubbard out for the Panthers, it's worth checking to see if D'Onta Foreman is available in your league. He's rostered in 73 percent of Yahoo leagues and 60 percent of ESPN leagues and is coming off a stellar game with Hubbard in the lineup.

Last week, Foreman racked up 145 scrimmage yards with two receptions.

If Foreman isn't available and you're rushing to add a back, Latavius Murray of the Denver Broncos should be there for the taking. He's rostered in only 40 percent of Yahoo leagues and 31 percent of ESPN leagues.

Murray might not have a ton of upside this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars, as he'll likely split reps with Melvin Gordon III. However, the Broncos placed Mike Boone on injured reserve—he joins Javonte Williams—so he should have a decent floor.

Last week, Murray had just 23 scrimmage yards, but he caught two passes and found the end zone.

Wide Receiver

Elijah Moore

1. Cooper Kupp, Los Angeles Rams

2. Tyreek Hill, Miami Dolphins

3. Justin Jefferson, Minnesota Vikings

4. Stefon Diggs, Buffalo Bills

5. Davante Adams, Las Vegas Raiders

6. CeeDee Lamb, Dallas Cowboys

7. Tee Higgins, Cincinnati Bengals

8. Jaylen Waddle, Miami Dolphins

9. DeAndre Hopkins, Arizona Cardinals

10. A.J. Brown, Philadelphia Eagles

11. Amon-Ra St.Brown, Detroit Lions

12. Tyler Lockett, Seattle Seahawks

13. Michael Pittman Jr., Indianapolis Colts

14. Chris Olave, New Orleans Saints

15. D.J. Moore, Carolina Panthers

16. Amari Cooper, Cleveland Browns

17. Christian Kirk, Jacksonville Jaguars

18. Gabe Davis, Buffalo Bills

19. DeVonta Smith, Philadelphia Eagles

20. Terry McLaurin, Washington Commanders

Waiver Target: Elijah Moore, WR, New York Jets

New York Jets wideout Elijah Moore didn't play in Week 7 following his trade request. However, with Davis out this week, Moore is set to return to the lineup. With Davis out, he should also see an expanded role in the offense.

Moore has had at least three receptions and 40 receiving yards in four of his six appearances this season, while Davis leads the Jets with 351 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Expect Moore to be back to his three-catch, 40-plus-yard floor in Week 8. He might also find the end zone. While the New England Patriots have allowed just 5.8 yards per pass attempt this season, they have surrendered 10 passing touchdowns in seven games.

It's worth checking to see if rookie receiver Garrett Wilson—who leads the Jets with 28 receptions—is available. He's rostered in 73 percent of ESPN leagues but only 47 percent of Yahoo leagues.

Moore is rostered in 40 percent of Yahoo leagues and 49 percent of ESPN leagues.

Tight End

Harrison Bryant
Harrison Bryant

1. George Kittle, San Francisco 49ers

2. Dallas Goedert, Philadelphia Eagles

3. Zach Ertz, Arizona Cardinals

4. Tyler Higbee, Los Angeles Rams

5. T.J. Hockenson, Detroit Lions

6. Taysom Hill, New Orleans Saints

7. Pat Freiermuth, Pittsburgh Steelers

8. Kyle Pitts, Atlanta Falcons

9. Irv Smith Jr., Minnesota Vikings

10. Hayden Hurst, Cincinnati Bengals

Waiver Target: Harrison Bryant, TE, Cleveland Browns

Cleveland Browns starting tight end David Njoku is dealing with an ankle injury. He's "holing out hope" that he can face the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night—per Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal—there's a very good chance that he sits.

If Njoku is out, Harrison Bryant is likely to see a lot of action as one of Jacoby Brissett's top targets.

"My goal every week is to be prepared to have an expanded role," Bryant said, per Anthony Poisal of the team's official website.

Njoku has seen at least six targets in each of his past five games, and he finished Week 7 with seven catches for 71 yards. That's the sort of volume Bryant could see this week against Cincinnati.

Bryant is rostered in only 7 percent of Yahoo leagues and 5 percent of ESPN leagues.
