Alabama Football Recruiting 2022: Top Remaining 2022 Recruits, Class Predictions

Alabama went undefeated and won the national championship during the 2020 season. It made it back to the College Football Playoff National Championship again this past season, coming up just short of back-to-back titles. And the Crimson Tide should continue to be a championship contender for quite some time.

Since the Nick Saban era began in 2007, Alabama has had tremendous success on the recruiting trail, consistently bringing in top high school players to replenish its program. That's again been the case during the 2022 recruiting cycle, as the Tide have already landed a host of strong recruits.

Alabama ranks No. 2 in the 247Sports Composite Team rankings for 2022 after signing 23 recruits during the early signing period in December. And it has a chance to add more players to its class Wednesday, which is traditional national signing day.

Here's a look at the top recruits who are considering signing with the Crimson Tide on Wednesday, along with some predictions for how the recruiting cycle will end for the program.

Lewis Will Choose LSU over Alabama

Alabama has already signed two tight ends in its 2022 class—4-stars Elijah Brown and Amari Niblack. But the Crimson Tide may still add another, as 3-star tight end Danny Lewis has them among his three finalists entering his signing day ceremony Wednesday.

Lewis has been busy of late, as he visited Alabama on Jan. 21, LSU on Jan. 26 and Florida on Friday. And it's possible he could choose any of the three SEC programs.

Alabama is the only one of those schools that isn't entering the 2022 season with a new head coach, as LSU hired Brian Kelly and Florida hired Billy Napier. But Lewis might prefer to head to a program with less depth at tight end so that he can get on the field sooner and potentially make a bigger impact.

Although Alabama made a strong push, the prediction here is that Lewis won't join the Crimson Tide. Instead, he'll sign with the Tigers.

Farmer Will Flip from Florida to Alabama

Jalen Farmer has been committed to Florida since Sept. 10, but it's not a sure thing that the 3-star offensive lineman will sign with the Gators on Wednesday. There are several SEC programs that could get him to flip, and that group includes Alabama.

The Crimson Tide have made a late push for Farmer, extending him an offer Thursday and then bringing him in for an official visit the following day. Will those late efforts prove to be successful? They will find out Wednesday whether they were successful in swaying him.

One thing that could work in Alabama's favor is that Farmer already has a relationship with new Crimson Tide offensive line coach Eric Wolford, who was previously Kentucky's O-line coach. Wolford was trying to get Farmer to come to UK.

Because of that, expect Alabama to get Farmer to flip, making him the top recruit who will sign with the Crimson Tide on Wednesday. He'll bolster the program's depth at offensive line and could make a big impact down the line.

Alabama Won't End Up with Top 2022 Class in Nation

There's a chance that Alabama could end up with the No. 1 class in the 2022 recruiting cycle. However, it seems unlikely that it will overtake Texas A&M for top spot.

The Aggies have already signed six 5-star recruits, and they could still add two more Wednesday (linebacker Harold Perkins and defensive lineman Shemar Stewart). They may have to miss out on both if the Crimson Tide hope to end up with the best class in the nation.

Still, Alabama should have a top-three class, and it may remain at No. 2 if it can hold off Georgia. And that would mark yet another year of successful recruiting for the Tide.

So while Alabama won't end up at the top of the 2022 rankings, it will still have a strong class that should ensure the program's continued success over the next few years.
