A lot can change in the National Football League from week to week, especially when it comes to the leaderboard for the Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player Award.

For the last few weeks, it's been Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts leading the way at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, according to DraftKings' odds.

But this past weekend allowed for some movement among the top candidates after the top two, including Joe Burrow, who helped orchestrate the Cincinnati Bengals' 27-24 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

With the win, Burrow moved to 3-0 in his burgeoning career against Mahomes and the Chiefs and launched himself to the No. 3 favourite spot for MVP.

Another new name in the top six is Geno Smith.

The 32-year old quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks finally added an impressive game-winning drive late to give his team a 27-23 win over the Los Angeles Rams.

Down three points with less than three minutes left in the game, Smith threw for 65 yards and the touchdown to DK Metcalf to seal the game.

Seattle improved to 7-5 on the season and are No. 2 in the NFC West.

There are still five weeks of football left in the regular season, but here's an updated look at the odds, predicted winner and runners-up heading into Week 14.

MVP: Patrick Mahomes

Even in a loss, Patrick Mahomes manages to look good.

The 27-year old quarterback is known for being a magician with the football and boasts extraordinary elusiveness, but on Sunday, he added another type of highlight to the reel: a running tomahawk dunk touchdown in the fourth quarter.

"He did the Michael Jordan," said football analyst Tony Romo during the broadcast.

Mahomes came up short for the third time against Joe Burrow, but his NFL-leading 3,808 passing yards and 30 passing touchdowns is proof of his MVP-caliber season.

And he's doing it without Tyreek Hill.

The Chiefs aren't as consistent as they've been in years past, but Mahomes has them atop the AFC West and on a serious trajectory for the Super Bowl.

And it's all because of Mahomes.

Runner-up: Jalen Hurts

If the MVP award were just about winning, Jalen Hurts would claim it this year.

He's got the Philadelphia Eagles at 11-1, the best record in the NFL, and on a three-game winning streak.

If Sunday was about statements, Hurts made his.

In the Eagles' 35-10 win over the Tennessee Titans, Hurts threw for 380 yards and had three touchdowns on the day, with no interceptions.

Make no mistake about it, Hurts had himself a signature day against the Titans.

In fact, he became the first Eagles player to pass for at least 350 yards, throw for three touchdowns, and score with his feet in the same game.

Not surprisingly, Philly fans began chanting "MVP! MVP!" for Hurts down from the rafters at Lincoln Financial Field.

All told, his Sunday performance gives him a season total of 2,940 passing yards and 20 passing touchdowns (three interceptions) to go along with 609 yards rushing and nine rushing TDs.

Those are definitely MVP-caliber numbers. Fans will have to see if that's enough to bring home the hardware.

Third Place: Joe Burrow

At this point, it's becoming clear that Joe Burrow has Mahomes and the Chiefs' number.

He's undefeated against the former MVP and, for context, the only other quarterback to have beaten Mahomes three times is one Tom Brady.

Burrow is back in form, and he's got his Bengals tied for the top spot in the AFC North at 8-4.

Jaโ€™Marr Chase is back in the fold for Cincinnati, but while he was out, Burrow kept the offense rolling.

For example, on Sunday, Burrow threw for 286 yards with two touchdowns and 46 yards rushing and a TD run.

That's the kind of play that has made the Bengals a team to contend with and has vaulted the young QB officially into the top three candidates in the MVP conversation.

Accolades, though, aren't at all important to him.

"It is what it is," Burrow told Mohammad Ahmad of Cleveland.com. "I donโ€™t play the game for those kinds of accolades. I play the game for those guys in the locker room."

Thus far on the year, Burrow has 3,446 passing yards (second in NFL) with 25 touchdowns (tied for second) and eight interceptions.
