The Most Highly Anticipated Matches in WWE and AEW for Rest of 2022

As October reaches its end, there are still two months left in 2022, but wrestling never stops. There are plenty of big matches left for WWE and All Elite Wrestling to deliver in the coming months.

Both companies have big shows on the horizon with AEW Full Gear on Nov. 19 and WWE Survivor Series on Nov. 26. The companies will also want to keep their weekly television programming must-see.

The best way to pull fans in is with big matches. Some of them have been set up over the past few months and will hopefully end the year with memorable moments.

For WWE, that will include Roman Reigns and The Bloodline's next challenges as well as the in-ring return for Bray Wyatt. AEW will meanwhile focus on big title matches like Jon Moxley vs. MJF, The Acclaimed vs. Swerve in Our Glory, and Toni Storm vs. Jamie Hayter.

The immediate future is bright for both companies, and the following are the most anticipated matches that can happen during that time.

Jon Moxley vs. MJF

All Elite Wrestling has one destination match in mind, and it may be the biggest of the year. Jon Moxley, the heart and soul of the company, will face Maxwell Jacob Friedman, the future of the business.

This could be the moment that MJF is crowned as the face of AEW. He has done everything right recently and become so popular that it is hard to see him as a heel.

That is precisely what makes this match so intriguing. It is unclear whether MJF will leave AEW Full Gear as a fan favorite or dastardly heel. What will he do to become the best?

William Regal's involvement could be the difference. One of the all-time greats, The Gentleman Villain has a unique relationship with both men, and he could very well switch allegiances by the end of this match.

All of this is to say that no one quite knows what is going to happen in the most important match left to play out in 2022.

The Debut of WarGames at WWE Survivor Series

WarGames has been a staple of NXT for years but will soon become a main roster staple.
WarGames has been a staple of NXT for years but will soon become a main roster staple.

WWE has promised something special for WWE Survivor Series this year. There will be two WarGames matches, one featuring men and the other featuring women.

This match has been one of the highlights of the year for NXT. It has helped define some of the biggest stables in the business.

While it is still unclear who will compete in the double-ring cage, there are some clear stories developing that will fit in the imposing structure.

For the men, The Bloodline has made many enemies over this past year. From Sheamus and The Brawling Brutes to Drew McIntyre and Kevin Owens, there is no shortage of opponents who will step into the cage to fight Roman Reigns and his family.

For the women, Damage CTRL has set the stage for war, though the group will need some help to fill out WarGames. Bayley and Bianca Belair are the captains in this battle who will need to pick their full teams for a ruthless battle.

In both cases, the excitement is building for two of the best WarGames matches in modern wrestling history.

Toni Storm vs. Jamie Hayter

While Thunder Rosa is out of action, likely through the rest of 2022, Toni Storm has taken over AEW as the interim women's champion. She has had the best run of matches of any women's champion to date, yet one woman has managed to overshadow her.

The crowd is all behind Jamie Hayter. Seen as a true AEW original given her unlikely journey to the top, she has improved with each performance and gained more popularity.

Much like Storm and her coming fight with Rosa, Hayter's biggest match is not likely in 2022 but will be defining for 2023. She will eventually come into conflict with her mentor Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D., after turning face.

In the meantime, Storm and Hayter are the top women in the company and will certainly draw a crowd for their next clash. The two have proven chemistry and now have the build to make for one of the best matches of the year.

While it is not confirmed, it is likely that these two will fight at AEW Full Gear, and there is no doubt it will get a loud reaction from fans who have awaited this rematch.

Bray Wyatt's Return Match

Bray Wyatt is back. After the best wrestling return in recent memory, fans have been fully behind the strange wondrous vision of The Eater of Worlds.

When will Wyatt wrestle again? Who will he fight? No one knows, but fans will be ready no matter what.

The uncertainty makes it more exciting. Given Wyatt's history, there is not even a guarantee that it will be a traditional match in the ring. We could see another cinematic contest like Ultimate Deletion or a Firefly Funhouse match.

Wyatt has always been a better promo than in-ring worker, but there is no doubt that this match will be special. Wyatt needs it to be, and WWE has a vested interest in making its hottest star stand out.

The Acclaimed vs. Swerve in Our Glory 3

One of the biggest surprises of 2022 was just how good Swerve in Our Glory vs. The Acclaimed was at AEW All Out. It stole the show even from all-time greats like Jon Moxley, CM Punk, Chris Jericho, Bryan Danielson and Kenny Omega.

The only criticism for that first match was Max Caster and Anthony Bowens should not have lost. That was rectified in their abridged rematch. The Uncrowned Champs finally captured the gold.

AEW rarely does a trio of rematches, especially this close together, but there is one last story to tell with these teams. Can The Acclaimed defeated Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee without help?

This is the match where the crowd will be the most invested. The talent have had time to figure out the full scope of the story. Everything can click into place for a match of the year contender.

It is likely The Acclaimed will pick up the win to close out this series, but it is far from a certainty. Anything can happen, and that makes this one of the defining matches left on the AEW calendar.

Jey Uso vs. Sami Zayn

Jey Uso and Sami Zayn cannot seem to get along. No matter what The Honorary Uce does, Jey sees him as an outsider and a goofball who joked his way into a spot in The Bloodline.

This has been the story of the year for WWE, and it will come to a head in many ways in the coming months. The first match that is likely is Jey vs. Zayn. This will be a battle of wills with an invested crowd.

Jey has shown in the past that he has a chance to be a special singles performance on top of his tag team pedigree. The Honorary Uce is one of the WWE's most creative performers. Together, they can put each other over.

It could a moment that helps turn Jey or Zayn face. It also has a chance to set the stage for either man to challenge Roman Reigns for the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship.

When the dust settles, The Bloodline will look different than it did before. Given the stable's dominance in WWE, that makes this match absolutely crucial for the future of the company.

The Return Match for The Elite

After a major return where The Elite became the first AEW trios champions, Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks disappeared from television. Regardless of the reason for that absence, it has left a hole on the roster that no one could fill.

Given a video package aired on the Oct. 26 edition of AEW Dynamite, The Elite will be returning to action soon.

Will they be faces or heels? Who will they challenge first? How much will the recent absence play into future storytelling?

All these questions make the return of The Elite all the more exciting. Omega, Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson are among the best wrestlers in the world today.

Whatever The Elite do next, it will be a special moment. Everyone will want to move past the absence of the group and the controversy surrounding AEW recently to focus on wrestling again.

Roman Reigns vs. Sheamus

Sheamus has seen a late-career resurgence thanks to his much-talked-about matches with Gunther. The two showed how impactful it can be to watch a truly physical match, defined by both men's willingness to take punishment and dish it out.

This has allowed The Celtic Warrior as well as The Brawling Brutes together to become the most popular face stable in WWE. They are perfectly set up to challenge The Bloodline for all the gold.

While Ridge Holland and Butch will get the first shot at WWE Crown Jewel against The Usos, it is the battle of Roman Reigns and Sheamus that will define the rest of this year.

The Celtic Warrior was temporarily taken out of action by The Bloodline, but once he returns, likely in time for WWE Survivor Series and WarGames, he will also be ready to fight Reigns in the most-hyped match together in their careers.
