10 WWE Superstars Being Sorely Underused Right Now

For the past few months, WWE programming has felt like a breath of fresh air for many fans.

Ever since Triple H took over as the head of creative, we have seen some changes to how Raw and SmackDown are run and how they are booked.

A handful of people have been brought back to WWE such as Johnny Gargano, Candice LeRae and The Good Brothers; we have seen more detailed storytelling, with what some might call nuance at times; and we have seen a few talents, who were being wasted, being given more TV time.

However, the WWE roster being as big as it has become almost guarantees that the company will never have enough time to push and properly feature all its contracted wrestlers.

Let's take a look at the roster and which Superstars are still being underused.

The Hurt Business (Except Bobby Lashley)

During the pandemic, one of the only bright spots in WWE was The Hurt Business. With MVP as the charismatic leader, Bobby Lashley as the top dog and a tag team consisting of Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin, the stable seemed destined for great things.

After some initial success and plenty of great matches, WWE decided to disband the quartet. For a while, MVP remained by Lashley's side, but even that alliance ended when Omos came looking for a manager.

While The All Mighty has had an exceptional run as the United States champion in recent months before dropping the belt to Seth Rollins, everyone else in the group has been treading water.

MVP feels wasted being used as a mouthpiece for Omos, especially since he is not talking much. When it comes to Alexander and Benjamin, the only time we see them on the main roster is if they are being used to put someone else over or break up a random fight.

Lashley is a big enough star to hold his own, but the other three men should band together again. MVP running a tag team with two of the most versatile workers on the roster would add a little more depth to the division and give the trio more opportunities for success.

Akira Tozawa

Akira Tozawa has spent 17 years in the pro wrestling business, but the last eight years have not allowed him to thrive the way he did in previous promotions.

The 37-year-old found some initial success in the cruiserweight division after it was relaunched in 2016, but that did not last long. And ever since the end of 205 Live, he has been underutilized in every way.

Not only is Tozawa not being given the opportunity to show the WWE Universe why he was considered one of the best junior heavyweights in Japan at one point, but WWE has also dressed him like a ninja and only booked him in the 24/7 Championship nonsense for far too long.

He could be better used in a tag team, as a veteran who helps talents in NXT or in any number of ways that would put his skills to work. At this point, not allowing Tozawa to have great matches is wasting his and our time.

Doudrop

For a few months, Doudrop seemed like she would be a real force in the women's division.

Not only was she in a feud with Bianca Belair that produced some fun matches, but it also seemed like management wanted to feature her for both her physical ability and her personality.

The former Piper Niven is far more valuable than some may realize. If you saw her run in NXT UK, you know she can do so much more than management is allowing right now.

Whether she is a heel or face, or a singles or tag team wrestler, does not matter. Having someone with her size, power and athleticism should make it easy to find a good way to use her for the benefit of the division.

Her tag team with Nikki A.S.H. already seems to be done, and she hasn't done much since Triple H took over, so it's going to be interesting to see what 2023 holds for her.

Los Lotharios

Angel Garza and Humberto Carrillo are both incredibly gifted wrestlers who also seem to have a natural level of charisma, so pairing the real-life cousins together for a tag team seemed like the perfect fit.

While they still pop up occasionally, they have never felt like a real threat to the reign of any tag team champions. They've mostly been used to put others over, including Mace and Mansoor during some of the Maximum Male Models nonsense.

Not only are they both versatile performers who can work as heels or babyfaces, but they are also legacy wrestlers who come from a family with deep ties to the business. Pushing them should be an easy decision.

Whether it's on the main roster or back in NXT, WWE needs to find a way to use Los Lotharios before one, or both, gets frustrated and decides to see what other opportunities are out there.

Tommaso Ciampa

Tommaso Ciampa went from being on TV every week alongside The Miz in one of the weirdest pairings we have seen in years to barely being mentioned by the commentary team.

Being paired with The A-Lister didn't help either of them and did not fit well with everything we have learned about The Blackheart over the years.

It's no secret that Triple H loves Ciampa. The former NXT champion was pushed heavily under The Game's leadership in the developmental system, so it stands to reason that we just haven't seen what the head of creative wants to do with him yet.

But that it's not a guarantee that the 37-year-old will be pushed the same way he was in NXT.

Ciampa is fighting an uphill battle on the main roster. With big returns for Johnny Gargano, Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt all happening in the past few months, it's starting to feel slightly crowded on the main roster again.

It's not like the roster is anywhere near as big as it used to be, but there still isn't enough time to feature everyone. A DIY reunion with Gargano might be his best shot at success, but that all depends on what Papa H has in store for both men.

Dominik 'T-Bar' Dijakovic

If The Hurt Business was the best-run stable during the pandemic, then Retribution was definitely the worst. Thankfully, the fault for that is solely on management, not the people in the group. In fact, the group was made up of some talented individuals.

Mustafa Ali is getting another push, Mace is currently in a tag team, and both Shane Thorne and Mia Yim are no longer with the company. That just leaves T-Bar, formerly known as Dominik Dijakovic in NXT.

While he has ditched some of his Retribution gear since the group disbanded, the 35-year-old is still his name and he is being used mostly on episodes of Main Event if he is even booked at all.

Anyone who watched Dijakovic in NXT is probably scratching their head at how WWE could bungle what should be a slam dunk. Not only does he have a great look, but he is also a talented athlete with several great matches under his belt.

His classics with Keith Lee often stole the show, and there is no reason why he can't put on those kinds of performances again on the main roster. Having him battle guys like Gunther, Sheamus and Strowman would produce some fantastic matches.

Shayna Baszler

When Triple H took over, a lot of people assumed that meant Shayna Baszler would return to being booked as an unstoppable badass just like she was in NXT. So far, though, that hasn't been the case.

The Queen of Spades has had a few short interactions with Liv Morgan and Ronda Rousey in recent months, but there has been no follow-up to any of that and it's starting to feel like there might not be any at all.

Baszler should be breaking arms and winning titles, not playing second fiddle in a tag team or a background character in somebody else's feud.

The 42-year-old is unique in many ways and brings a kind of energy and brutality to her matches that few other women can match.

When Baszler is unleashed, she is so much fun to watch. If you need a reminder, go back and watch her decimate everyone inside the Elimination Chamber in 2020. It was one of the most dominant performances of the year.

The 10 people mentioned on this list can all be doing so much more to help the WWE product, but it's up to management to put them in the right positions. Who do you think should be utilized better under the new regime?
