Draft Advice

Enter With a Plan...But Be Ready to Pivot
When the clock strikes on draft day and it's your time to pick, you should have a good idea of which direction you're headed. While most people seem to recognize that much for their first pick, it would ideally be the case for your first several selections.
Having said that, you must be ready to pivot off of that plan if the draft board breaks in a surprising fashion. Don't reach for a player or position just because that's what your initial strategy would have you do. Similarly, do be ready to pounce on undervalued players or positions if your leaguemates are chasing something else.
Prioritize High-Volume Running Backs, If Possible
While there are different paths to fantasy glory, nothing improves your odds of winning big quite like a bell-cow running back. Granted, there aren't nearly as many of them as there used to be, but that only increases the value of those fortunate enough to fall into heavy workloads.
Obviously, this is somewhat dependent on the draft board, as you won't get more than a chance or two at targeting these players, but it's worth the effort if you can make it happen.
Know Your Format and Leaguemates
This sounds simple, but the worst mistake a fantasy player can make is skipping this step.
Does your league reward four points or six for a passing touchdown? Is there a point or half-point boost per reception? Are there big-play or big-yardage bonuses? Are your leaguemates likely to follow conventional wisdom, or are there wild-card drafters who will throw everything off-course? If you don't know the answers to these questions now, then you should get them answered before moving on to your next piece of pre-draft prep.
