Fantasy Football Big Board: Complete PPR Player Rankings for Week 13

Things are starting to really get interesting now.

Twelve weeks into the 2021 NFL season, we are officially in the meat of the fantasy stretch run. There are just one or two more weeks left in most leagues before the postseason starts. And while some teams have already all but locked up a playoff spot and others are just playing out the string, for a great many fantasy teams, nothing is set in stone.

Of course, managers facing that make-or-break scenario face other challenges as well. The running back position has been blasted by injuries in recent weeks. More than one star wideout is either hurt or has vanished at the worst possible time. Big names under center are swooning in an even bigger way.

Swooning is bad.

Add it all together, and it's a maddening time of year for many. But this article is a searchlight in the December fog. A bridge over troubled waters. A lifeline to help keep your season afloat.

OK, actually it's position-by-position PPR rankings for Week 13 and some matchups to target and avoid.

But the other way makes it sound a lot more profound, doesn't it?

Quarterbacks

Over the first seven weeks of the 2021 season, only two quarterbacks tallied more fantasy points than Kyler Murray of the Arizona Cardinals. The third-year pro was an MVP candidate in both the NFL and fantasy football.

But at the end of Arizona's Week 8 loss to the Green Bay Packers, as Murray was throwing a game-sealing pick, he sprained his ankle—and he hasn't played since.

The injury was a major blow for fantasy managers, but it appears with Arizona coming out of their bye week those same managers will have Murray back for Arizona's Week 13 tilt with the Chicago Bears. That isn't guaranteed, but Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury expressed confidence that Murray and wideout DeAndre Hopkins will both return to action.

"I'm hopeful," Kingsbury told reporters Monday. "I'll leave it at that at this point because I want to see them move around and practice full speed and see where they're at and their comfort level and what their confidence is."

We'll have to monitor practice reports later in the week, of course. But for now, the prognosis is positive enough to slot Murray in these rankings as though he will play.

GOOD MATCHUPS

Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders (vs. WAS) [DK DFS VALUE: $6,000]

Carr doesn't get a lot of run in fantasy circles, and he's just 12th at the position in both fantasy points and points per game. But the 30-year-old is quietly pacing the NFL in passing yards per game (310.4) and draws a Washington defense leading the league in fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks per game.

Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks (vs. SFO) [DK DFS VAUE: $6,400]

Wilson has admittedly been less than impressive in recent weeks. But if you invested a middle-round pick in Wilson and don't have a backup option with a favorable matchup, Wilson's opponent in Week 13 ranks 11th in terms of average fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks, and Seattle can't run the ball even a little right now.

BAD MATCHUPS

Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills (vs. NE) [DK DFS VALUE: $7,900]

Coming off a four-score outing against the New Orleans Saints on Thanksgiving, Allen is a hard player to sit in season-long formats. But the New England defense has been stingy to opposing fantasy quarterbacks, and the Pats have no shortage of familiarity with Allen.

Joe Burrow, Cincinnati (vs. LAC) [DK DFS VALUE: $6,300]

The Chargers are ping-ponging all over the place of late, alternating wins and losses. The Bolts are also awful defending the run. But they are a different story against the pass, allowing the fifth-fewest passing yards (204.9) in the NFL.

SLEEPER

Taylor Heinicke, Washington Football Team (at LV) [DK DFS VALUE $5,600]

Heinicke hasn't been great for fantasy managers this season, but he hasn't been terrible, either—for most of the season, he has been a borderline QB1. This week, Heinicke gets a solid fantasy matchup for his position in a game that has sneaky shootout potential.

Running Backs

So, about Week 12 at running back.

This about sums it up.

To say that it was a brutal week doesn't begin to do it justice. Of the top five picks per Average Draft Position Data at Fantasy Pros, three were active in Week 12. One of those was playing hurt.

The other two suffered significant injuries.

In Miami, Christian McCaffrey of the Carolina Panthers went down with an ankle injury after missing five games earlier in the season with a bad hamstring. After undergoing further testing on Monday, the decision was made to shelve the 25-year-old for the remainder of the regular season.

The news is only marginally better where Dalvin Cook of the Minnesota Vikings is concerned. After being carted off the field in San Francisco on Sunday, Cook had an MRI on Monday that revealed a dislocated shoulder. No decision has been made yet regarding placing Cook on injured reserve, but from all indications, he will miss at least two or three games.

Add to that Ezekiel Elliott playing through a bruised knee and Alvin Kamara only recently returning to practice after missing three games with a knee injury of his own, the top of the running back rankings has gone through quite the shakeup.

And more than a few fantasy managers are working through the five stages of grief.

GOOD MATCHUPS

Myles Gaskin, Miami Dolphins (vs. NYG) [DK DFS VALUE: $5,800]

Gaskin admittedly hasn't been great on a per-carry basis this year—the third-year pro is averaging a career-low 3.5 yards per tote in 2021. But Gaskin has at least 14 carries in five of his last six games ahead of a favorable fantasy matchup with the Giants.

Joe Mixon, Cincinnati Bengals (vs. LAC) [DK DFS VALUE: $8,100]

The Bengals have been riding Mixon hard of late—the 25-year-old has a staggering 58 carries over the past two weeks. That could mean a massive game on Sunday against a Chargers run defense that is allowing 4.7 yards per carry and over 145 rushing yards per game.

BAD MATCHUPS

Ezekiel Elliott, Dallas Cowboys (at NOS) [DK DFS VALUE: $7,900]

From all indications, Elliott is going to give it a go despite being banged up, just as he did on Thanksgiving. But it took a short-yardage score to salvage Elliott's Week 12 line, and this week, the Cowboys face one of the best run defenses in the entire league.

Josh Jacobs, Las Vegas Raiders (at WAS) [DK DFS VALUE: $6,000]

Jacobs is coming off one of his better outings of the season—a 24-touch, 112-yard effort with a touchdown against the Cowboys. That stat line could be hard to duplicate in the fourth-worst fantasy matchup for running backs in 2021.

SLEEPER

Devonta Freeman, Baltimore Ravens (at PIT) [DK DFS VALUE $5,500]

Freeman isn't exactly lighting it up for the Ravens in 2021. But he has emerged as the lead running back for a Baltimore team that likes to run the ball. In recent weeks, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been alarmingly easy to run on—first in PPR points per game allowed to running backs since Week 9.

Wide Receivers

Well, the theme of this week's fantasy rankings (sadly) appears to be injuries. The wide receiver position wasn't spared their sting—in fact, one of this year's biggest surprise stars went down.

The good news with San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel is that ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported there is "no major concern" about his long-term prospects. Still, the first wide receiver in NFL history with 1,000 receiving yards, five receiving touchdowns and five rushing touchdowns in a season is expected to miss at least one game.

Still, there's actually some good news at wide receiver as well. As was already mentioned, the Cardinals expect to have DeAndre Hopkins back on the field this week against the Bears. Amari Cooper has rejoined the Dallas Cowboys after a stint on the COVID-19/reserve list and is on track to play Thursday. So is CeeDee Lamb, who missed time with a concussion.

All three of those stars make a return to these rankings this week.

GOOD MATCHUPS

DeAndre Hopkins, Arizona Cardinals (at CHI) [DK DFS VALUE: $6,200]

Might as well just get Nuk in here right off the jump. This may be the lowest DFS price point you're going to see Hopkins at, especially in a top-10 fantasy matchup for wide reecivers. If he's out there on Sunday, look for Kyler Murray to get the ball to Hopkins with regularity.

Hunter Renfrow, Las Vegas Raiders (at WAS) [DK DFS VALUE: $5,800]

Don't look now, but "Third and Renfrow" now ranks inside the top 25 wide receivers in PPR fantasy points for the season. His career season should continue against a Washington pass defense that can't cover a bed with a sheet this year.

BAD MATCHUPS

Kendrick Bourne, New England Patriots (at BUF) [DK DFS VALUE: $5,200]

Bourne was a fantasy hero in Week 12, catching five passes for 61 yards and two touchdowns against Tennessee. However, he's apt to be a fantasy zero in Week 13—the Bills are the worst fantasy matchup in the league for wide receivers so far this season.

Ja'Marr Chase, Cincinnati Bengals (vs. LAC) [DK DFS VALUE: $7,000]

Chase has been mostly outstanding as Joe Burrow's top target as a rookie—so much so that's he's just about a must-start in seasonal formats. But Chase has just six catches for 71 yards the past two weeks combined and draws a poor fantasy matchup for wideouts with the Bolts. He's a fade in DFS.

SLEEPER

Josh Reynolds, Detroit Lions (vs. MIN) [DK DFS VALUE $3,200]

Reynolds has played at least 88 percent of the offensive snaps in both of his games as a member of the Lions, and last week, he led or tied for the team lead in yards, targets and touchdowns. He's an intriguing contrarian play in DFS tournaments in Week 13.

Tight Ends

If you thought the tight ends would make it through the carnage of Week 12 unscathed, think again—although, as with the other positions, the injury news is something of a mixed bag.

We'll get the bad news out of the way first. The Las Vegas Raiders earned a huge win over the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving, but that win came at a steep cost. Per Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports, star tight end Darren Waller suffered a strained IT band in his knee in the victory, and while it remains possible that Waller will be out there against Washington, it appears much more likely that he will miss at least one game.

Still, while the injury gods have taken away at tight end, they giveth as well. Washington's Logan Thomas hadn't played since injuring his hamstring in Week 4, but the 30-year-old was back in action last week against the Seattle Seahawks and will be available Sunday against the Raiders.

Given that Thomas was seventh in fantasy points among tight ends over the first three weeks of the season, his return alleviates at least some of the sting of Waller going down.

GOOD MATCHUPS

Kyle Pitts, Atlanta Falcons (vs. TB) [DK DFS VALUE: $5,600]

Pitts has had his ups and downs as a rookie, although many of the downs have more to do with the lack of talent around him than the young tight end himself. But if the Falcons have any chance to move the ball Sunday against Tampa, it's going to have to be through the air.

Logan Thomas, Washington Football Team (vs. LV) [DK DFS VALUE: $4,000]

See how I set this up? Drop in a little foreshadowing, add a little talk about Thomas' production pre-injury and WHAMMO! My greatness as a writer aside, Thomas' second game back is a great matchup—no team in the AFC has allowed more fantasy points per game to tight ends.

BAD MATCHUPS

T.J. Hockenson, Detroit Lions (vs. MIN) [DK DFS VALUE $5,200]

Over the season as a whole, Hockenson has been solid for fantasy managers. But the Minnesota Vikings have been stingy to opposing tight ends in 2021, and in their first meeting this season Hockenson managed just two catches for 22 yards.

Dawson Knox, Buffalo Bills (vs. NE) [DK DFS VALUE $4,700]

Knox only caught three passes for 32 yards against the Saints last week, but two of those catches went for touchdowns. The new franchise record-holder for scoring grabs by a tight end faces the worst fantasy matchup in the league for tight ends in Week 13.

SLEEPER

C.J. Uzomah, Cincinnati Bengals (vs. LAC) [DK DFS VALUE: $3,200]

Uzomah isn't a play for the timid—he has five catches for 18 yards over the last two games and hasn't scored a touchdown since Week 7. But the 28-year-old has a pair of games with two scores this season and draws a top-five matchup for his position this week with the Chargers.

Kickers and Defenses

If you have read this column all season long, you know I pay about as much attention to kickers as I do my family this time of year.

Don't give me that look, Buster. I'm pretty sure they prefer it when I work 14-plus-hour days six days a week.

However, occasionally a kicker does something that merits attention, whether it's setting a new NFL record for the longest field goal, making a ridiculous tackle or ranking as a top-20 fantasy player overall over a multiweek span.

Nick Folk of the New England Patriots just pulled off that last one—he's 16th overall in fantasy points over the last two weeks. Over that span, Folk has more fantasy points than Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs. And Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews. And Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady. And Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott.

That run isn't going to continue forever. Folk has a bottom-10 fantasy matchup for kickers this week with the Buffalo Bills.

But fantasy managers who have had Folk in the lineup these past two weeks are certainly grateful for the scoring boost.

GOOD MATCHUPS

Greg Joseph, Minnesota Vikings (at DET)

At the risk of getting sued by Captain Obvious for copyright infringement, I'd like to point out that the Lions are not a good defensive football team. But the fact that they lead they lead the league in fantasy points per game allowed to kickers indicates some aptitude at limiting teams in the red zone.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Defense (at ATL) [DK DFS VALUE: $3,500]

The Buccaneers aren't as good defensively as they were a year ago, especially on the back end. But Tampa should still feast in Week 13 against a floundering Falcons offense that leads the league in fantasy points per game allowed to team defenses.

BAD MATCHUPS

Tyler Bass, Buffalo Bills (vs. NE)

Frankly, Bill Belichick would be happy if Bass has a big game Monday night—that means he's kicking field goals instead of extra points. But that doesn't change the fact that the Patriots are last in the AFC in fantasy points per game surrendered to kickers.

Buffalo Bills Defense (vs. NE) [DK DFS VALUE: $2,900]

It's hard to find a bad matchup for team defenses this week—most fantasy-relevant squads have either neutral or favorable matchups. But the Bills play host to a soaring Patriots team that has given up the fewest fantasy points per game in the AFC to team defenses since Week 7.

SLEEPER

Pittsburgh Steelers (vs. BAL) [DK DFS VALUE $2,900]

It feels weird to call the Steelers a sleeper defense, but after last week's implosion against the Cincinnati Bengals they are likely waiver-wire-bound in quite a few leagues. Pittsburgh could easily rebound this week, however—the Ravens aren't exactly lighting it up offensively.

Top 100 Overall/Flex Rankings

Before we move on to the Top 100 players overall for Week 13 (a list that can be of assistance in making flex decisions), the usual caveats (as always) are in order.

The first is that quarterbacks are not included in this list. If your league has superflex spots that are QB-eligible, then you are almost always going to want a quarterback in there. In Week 12, Andy Dalton of the Chicago Bears would have been a top-15 running back and a top-20 wide receiver—and (get ready for a shock) Andy Dalton is terrible.

The second is that there are four teams on a bye in Week 13, because being short of players in the heart of a playoff push makes things more fun. The Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers and Tennessee Titans are all off.

No Nick Chubb. Nor Davante Adams. Nor D.J. Moore.

The final word this week is directed at fantasy managers whose teams have been eliminated from postseason contention. I feel your pain—I have a few teams where things haven't gone according to plan even a little.
