Updated 2022 NFL Draft Order After Sunday's Week 10 Results

The math to earn the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft changed slightly after Week 10.

The Detroit Lions did not lose, but they also did not win at Heinz Field against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Detroit's 16-16 tie put it at 0-8-1, but the key number for the projected draft order is the zero in the win column.

As long as the Lions do not have any wins, they will be in line to choose the top collegiate player come April.

The top of the projected order beneath Detroit did not change much in Week 10, as the New York Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars both lost to remain in the top five. The one-win Houston Texans were on a bye week.

There is a growing logjam of three-win teams, starting with the Miami Dolphins, and that order becomes a bit messy to figure out since four of the six franchises with three victories will give up their first-round picks to other teams.

Winless Lions Still in Line for No. 1 Pick

Well, at least the Lions have not lost in two weeks, as Dan Campbell's team tied with the Steelers in its first game out of the bye week.

Sunday's game at Heinz Field was far from a footballing masterpiece. Pittsburgh was at a disadvantage because Mason Rudolph got the call to start at quarterback Saturday night after Ben Roethlisberger tested positive for COVID-19.

Although the situation was unfortunate for Pittsburgh, it opened up a possibility for Detroit to steal a victory in an unexpected spot. But following its inability to get the win, it is time to seriously ask the question of where Detroit's win will come from. The schedule does not get any easier for the NFC North side from here.

The Thanksgiving Day clash with the Chicago Bears appeared to be an opportunity a few weeks back, but quarterback Justin Fields is starting to find a rhythm in the pocket and could easily outplay counterpart Jared Goff, who has thrown one touchdown pass in the past five games.

The Denver Broncos could be susceptible to defeat in Week 14, but the Lions would feel better about their chances if that game were on home soil instead of in the altitude in Colorado.

Chicago, the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals and Green Bay Packers are left on Detroit's home schedule. All of those teams will be playing for divisional titles or playoff seeding when they come into the Motor City.

Detroit deserves some credit for not giving up on the season after its 44-6 loss to Philadelphia before the bye, but if a win doesn't come in Sunday's unlikely scenario, when will it arrive?

New York Teams in Great Shape

Commissioner Roger Goodell better start preparing to hear boos from New York Giants and New York Jets fans on a constant basis when the top 10 picks play out in April.

The Giants and Jets each have two top-10 picks as the draft order stands after Week 10's games.

The Jets gave up 45 points in their third consecutive defeat Sunday. They are firmly planted in the top five as one of the two two-win teams in the NFL alongside the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Robert Saleh's team is rooting for the Seattle Seahawks to keep losing as well. The Jets own Seattle's first-round pick from the Jamal Adams trade. That selection sits at No. 7 going into Monday.

The Jets have two games in a row that will determine their draft fate. They face the Miami Dolphins in Week 11 and then visit the Houston Texans in Week 12. Losses in both games could move them up to No. 2 behind Detroit.

As for the Giants, they would pick sixth and eighth if the regular season ended after Monday night's game between the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams.

The Giants' fate is linked with that of the Bears, who gave up their 2022 first-round pick to move up and take Justin Fields in the 2021 draft. Joe Judge's team only has three home games left, and it comes out of its Week 10 bye to face a scorned Tampa Bay Buccaneers team that will be trying to bounce back from an unexpected loss to the Washington Football Team.

The Giants feel like a lock to pick inside the top 10 once with their own pick, and Chicago's unforgiving schedule may help New York earn a second top-10 pick. Between now and Week 14, the Bears are set to face the Baltimore Ravens, Arizona and Green Bay. Chicago needs to beat Detroit on Thanksgiving to create something positive during that stretch.

The draft fate of both Giants picks could be determined in Week 17, when they visit the Bears at Soldier Field. If Chicago struggles with its tough schedule, that matchup could determine which of the two Giants picks is first in the order.
