WWE Raw Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from Draft Night 2

The 2020 WWE Draft started off with a bang, including some shocking moments. Seth Rollins headed to Friday Night SmackDown along with Rey and Dominik Mysterio. WWE broke up The New Day. AJ Styles, Naomi, and The Miz and John Morrison were also all drafted from the blue brand to the red.

This left a big night with top names still on the draft board, exclusively set for Monday. Bayley, Randy Orton, Bray Wyatt, Alexa Bliss, Braun Strowman, Keith Lee, Daniel Bryan, Charlotte Flair and more had the potential to switch brands on this night.

One big group that had the potential to change brands was Retribution. After a shocking reveal, Mustafa Ali stands as the supposed leader of this group. He demanded time to speak on Raw about why he is connected to Retribution and its mission to destroy WWE.

Officially a member of the red brand for the next year, Asuka needed a new challenger. A Dual-Brand Women's Battle Royal was set to determine who would face The Empress of Tomorrow at WWE Hell in a Cell.

Kevin Owens and Aleister Black had yet to be drafted, but first, they needed to settle their personal dispute in a No Disqualification match.

As a final send-off to The Monday Night Messiah, Rollins got a chance to speak his mind on leaving Raw, the brand that he has led for much of his WWE career.

This show was jam-packed with potential. It was hard not to get excited with a night so stacked. Every moment mattered on this massive second night of the WWE Draft.

The Draft Picks for Night 2

The draft saw every Superstar placed into a pool and selected by each brand, which meant many of the picks would be Raw and SmackDown keeping talents they already had before the draft began.

Drew McIntyre Starts His Fight with Randy Orton Early

Randy Orton addressed his victory over Drew McIntyre. He called his pinfall victory a sign of things to come. He told The Scottish Psychopath that he would pin him once again at WWE Hell in a Cell.

The WWE champion interrupted The Viper, telling him that he was not waiting until Sunday. The two fought in the ring and outside before McIntyre threw him onto the Raw announce table. Orton went running up the ramp to avoid taking a Claymore.

Analysis

Orton-McIntyre has run its course and does not need more long talking segments. While the promos did break down into a brawl, this was a bland way to sell a story so far into its run, especially on a night that had so much promised ahead of time.

Hopefully, with Orton and McIntyre remaining on the same brand, their Hell in a Cell match ends the feud all the same. The match should be great, but there's little left to say in the coming weeks.

No Disqualification: Kevin Owens vs. Aleister Black

This contest started off hot. Aleister Black went after Kevin Owens with everything he had and then some. He used tables and steel chairs, including blasting KO with diving double knees through a stack of chairs.

KO refused to stay down. He needed to make his definitive statement against The Dutch Destroyer. Catching him with a stunner, Owens then powerbombed Black through a table to take the victory.

Result

KO def. Black by pinfall.

Grade

A-

Analysis

This was a fun end to a physical war where the hero got his revenge. KO and Black work well together, and they fought hard. It was a bigger match in execution than WWE ever made it out to be. It is just a shame that The Dutch Destroyer came out looking so much worse than KO, as they should be on equal footing.

The problem with the whole feud was that both men needed the win too much. KO should move right into the WWE Universal Championship picture. Black needs to start destroying everyone in his way quickly.

'Miz TV' Goes Wrong Twice

The Miz and John Morrison welcomed Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke, clearly trying to break up the new tag team. Instead, the two women stood up for each other. Natalya and Lana came out at the mention of the Battle Royal to come, and a fight broke out between the women.

Miz and Morrison attempted to recover by putting each other over along with their future in WWE. However, Lars Sullivan arrived. The A-Lister bailed while The Shaman of Sexy was manhandled.

Analysis

This was a messy and honestly awkward segment from start to finish. Miz and Morrison may be charismatic, but their current personae are lifeless. There's no spark to 'Miz TV' despite WWE overusing it to the extreme. Going back to Rose vs. Miz certainly did not help anything.

Hopefully, the teases of Miz abandoning Morrison lead somewhere. This team can still work but not in this current form. It might just be best to break it up and run with the two as solo stars. Morrison deserves better than bumping for The Freak.

Seth Rollins vs. AJ Styles vs. Jeff Hardy

Seth Rollins was glad to leave for Friday Night SmackDown, but he was sorry for leaving the fans wounded with his departure. He told the red brand it could not possibly recover from losing him. Jeff Hardy arrived to stake his claim in The Monday Night Messiah's place at the top of Raw.

Rollins walked out after announcing that Hardy would face Lars Sullivan on Friday. AJ Styles arrived to mock The Charismatic Enigma, and Styles and Rollins got into an argument. Hardy took out both men and demanded a Triple Threat.

This match went back and forth as all three men wanted to make a statement before they were separated by brands. Hardy especially looked motivated to take this victory, even when it felt like he was fighting against both men in a handicap match.

All three men were too resilient, especially with the odd man out breaking up pinfall attempts. Rollins thought he had the Stomp on The Phenomenal One but ran into a Hardy tilt-a-whirl DDT off Styles for a near-fall.

Styles trapped Rollins in the Calf Crusher and then broke it to allow Hardy to hit a Swanton Bomb on Rollins, but still The Messiah kicked out. Elias ran in and bashed Hardy with a guitar to set up a victory for The Phenomenal One.

Later in the night, Elias explained that he blames Hardy for injuring him in the car accident, even though the culprit was still at large. He promised a grand return next week.

Result

Styles def. Hardy and Rollins by pinfall.

Grade

A

Analysis

This was an incredible end to Styles' run on Raw. While Hardy was out of sorts in moments, the action was so fast-paced that sloppy moments can be forgiven. All three men showed off throughout. In particular, Styles and Rollins still have untapped chemistry.

Elias' return was a cool moment, and it will be interesting to see what he can bring out of a rivalry with The Charismatic Enigma. He is best as a heel and spent too much time playing the face. It is good to have him back.

Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke vs. Natalya and Lana

Following up on the women's brawl on 'Miz TV,' Raw booked a tag team match. Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke tried to keep the action moving quickly, but Natalya and Lana isolated Brooke in their corner to slow the pace.

Lana took too much time to taunt God's Greatest Creation, allowing Rose to tag in. Rose hit a low bicycle knee to set up Brooke to connect on an elevated senton bomb off her shoulders for the win.

The Queen of Harts told her tag team partner that she was done with her.

Result

Rose and Brooke def. Natalya and Lana by pinfall.

Grade

C-

Analysis

This was a slight improvement on recent Natalya and Lana tag matches. The contest got physical. There were a few interesting sequences. It was short, but it wasn't noticeably short. Still, the action was never going to be all that interesting.

Breaking up Natalya and Lana before they got going is odd, but there was likely never a plan for the heel team. The former Ravishing Russian has been embarrassed every week. The Queen of Harts needs a more solid foundation.

Angel Garza vs. Andrade

Zelina Vega watched on commentary as Andrade and Angel Garza finally settled their dispute in the ring. She said she was done after tonight with both men.

El Idolo was far too focused on making a statement to his former manager, while Garza just wanted to pick up a victory. He managed to catch Andrade with the Wing Clipper for a surprise quick victory.

Afterward, Alexa Bliss arrived to The Fiend's music, followed by Bray Wyatt. Wyatt and Bliss laid out Andrade and Vega together.

Result

Garza def. Andrade by pinfall.

Grade

C+

Analysis

It would have been preferred that Garza vs. Andrade went longer, but the two had a fun quick sprint. El Idolo got to show off and clearly still needs Vega on his side. It looks like they will re-form while Garza goes off on his own.

This seems like the best option. A mixed tag team match is on the horizon with fascinating potential. Andrade and Vega can help solidify the pairing of Wyatt and Bliss while finding their footing together again. This is a story that could be exactly what El Idolo needs.

Raw Tag Team Championships: New Day vs. Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode

After The Street Profits were officially drafted to SmackDown, Adam Pearce facilitated the trading of the tag team titles, as New Day and The Profits needed to hold the title of their brands going forward. Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler complained that they deserved a title shot. New Day agreed.

The Glorious One and The Showoff knew they needed to grind down Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods with technical wrestling, and it worked for a time. However, the tag team champions were done working slow after months on the shelf.

Woods got the hot tag and went off. It was clear how much he missed wrestling, hitting the Honor Roll and then nearly taking the win against Ziggler with a DDT. The Showoff fought back with a DDT of his own for a near-fall. Woods kicked out of another close count after a Roode spinebuster.

Kofi took out The Showoff on the outside, and New Day retain the tag team titles with the Midnight Hour.

Result

Kofi and Woods def. Ziggler and Roode by pinfall.

Grade

A

Analysis

The night absolutely delivered on wrestling. New Day had a good match with Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura, but this was the true return match for Woods and Kofi. They went all out with a team that pushed them to their limit.

It was great to see all these teams back at it. Roode has also been fantastic since returning, and Ziggler seems more energized working with The Glorious One. Tag team wrestling may have gotten a spark back with these wrestlers returning.

Ricochet Joins Hurt Business If He Loses: Ricochet vs. Cedric Alexander

Ricochet found The Hurt Business backstage and told the group he was done fighting. He wanted the feud ended definitively. He stated that he was done with Hurt Business if he defeated a member of the stable tonight, but if he lost, he would join the group.

MVP was clearly frustrated with Cedric Alexander not getting aggressive enough, but the youngest member of The Hurt Business was clearly taking over the contest. After a Michinoku Driver nearly took the win, Alexander accidentally hit the referee.

In the ensuing chaos, Ricochet grabbed a chair that MVP threw into the ring and faked getting hit, causing the referee to disqualify Alexander.

Result

Ricochet def. Alexander by disqualification to end his rivalry with The Hurt Business.

Grade

B+

Analysis

This was a fun match with a surprising finish. The intrigue of Ricochet potentially joining The Hurt Business was interesting, but he would not have worked in the group. This is much better, showing that The One and Only is not only talented but resourceful.

Hopefully, he can turn his Eddie Guerrero moment into a push. He has a ton of potential, far beyond the stable feud on the horizon. The Hurt Business can fully focus on Retribution going forward.

Dual-Brand No. 1 Contender Women's Battle Royal

Nia Jax talked a big game early, and she backed it up until Shayna Baszler eliminated her own tag team partner. The field thinned until Bianca Belair took out possibly the favorite in The Queen of Spades. The Riott Squad took out The EST, setting up a surprise final four.

Lacey Evans and Natalya worked together to take out Ruby Riott and Liv Morgan. The two remaining heels fought to the apron where The Queen of Harts took down The Sassy Southern Belle. The Ravishing Russian knocked her friend off the apron to win in a shocking betrayal.

During the match, Randy Orton and Drew McIntyre brawled backstage. The two fought to the ring and were barely held back by the end.

Result

Lana wins the Dual-Brand Women's Battle Royal to become the new No. 1 contender to the Raw Women's Championship.

Grade

C-

Analysis

While WWE took an unpredictable direction, it was not a good direction. After repeatedly embarrassing Lana for months and not having either brand draft her, WWE wanted her to fight Asuka. This seems like a completely one-sided affair for both the result and the work in the ring to come.

The story is interesting at least. Natalya and Lana cannot get a win together, so The Queen of Harts walks out on her friend, only for Lana to stab her in the back when it mattered most.

It was completely disrespectful to the women to distract from their supposed main event with McIntyre and Orton. This fight did not need to end the show to sell the feud.
