WWE vs. NXT Dream Matches We'd Love to See at Survivor Series 2019

Survivor Series is a stomping grounds for dream matches.

Such an idea is especially a theme this year thanks to WWE’s inclusion of NXT in the pay-per-view. Whether it’s a means to keep pumping up the Wednesday night show in its competition with All Elite Wrestling doesn't matter—treating the brand as equal to the other two shows instead of a minor leagues of sorts swings the door open on all sorts of possibilities.

While fans don’t have much in the way of concrete matches for the Nov. 24 show just yet, one dream match is already in place thanks to the triple-threat between Becky Lynch, Shayna Baszler and Bayley.

What other dream matches might WWE craft? Let’s sketch some out.

Sasha Banks played too big of a role in the rise of the women’s division during her NXT sprint to go ignored here. WWE also has to help her stay busy until she eventually lashes out at Bayley for her title.

Meaning, a Banks-Bianca Belair encounter makes all sorts of sense.

Belair is one of the hottest rising stars in the company right now so giving her a showcase match against someone like Banks for the non-NXT viewers could work wonders for both her and the brand itself.

With the way Banks can sell and lead a match, this one could be a classic.

Everyone has seen the very obvious shots at Goldberg that Matt Riddle continues to take on a weekly basis.

So why not take it a step further? Have Riddle squash Dolph Ziggler, the guy Goldberg recently feuded with as a way to seek forgiveness for his terrible match in Saudi Arabia.

And even without the Goldberg link, this one would be fun because Ziggler is both incredible on the mic and at making his opponent look like a million bucks. Watching him sell Riddle as a truly dominant striker and former MMA force helps everyone, even if it doesn’t lead to an eventual run-in with a legend like Goldberg himself.

Yes, yes, WWE already offered this.

But it wasn’t enough.

There is simply too much backstory here to ignore another encounter between Seth Rollins and Adam Cole. And their normal-television encounter ended with interference, so it’s not like fans got a fair conclusion.

These two are dynamite in the ring together and the backstory is superb. Rollins was Triple H’s original golden boy during The Authority run and otherwise. They’re forever linked. But Cole is the new Rollins down on NXT while it directly competes with AEW.

Something has to give. And with Rollins without a belt, maybe this leans even further into the idea Rollins would eventually go over to NXT, teasing a betrayal of Raw. Maybe it even leads to a heel turn.

No matter how it really turns out, there is simply too much here for WWE to let go to waste at a pay-per-view.

AJ Styles and Roderick Strong going to battle on their lonesome would be incredible pay-per-view fodder for plenty of reasons.

But it sure wouldn’t hurt to have a striker like Shinsuke Nakamura in there too.

Styles and Strong obviously have their history with other promotions but it would be a good time to see them link up in a WWE ring. If nothing else, it makes all involved look outstanding.

Perhaps more importantly, while it does do that, it also keeps Styles and The OC away from The Revival for now. A Styles-Finn Balor storyline that has already been teased needs to be saved for NXT’s fight with AEW, not wasted on a pay-per-view.

This match would be anything but a waste.

Editors Note: WWE announced later on Tuesday that Styles, Strong and Nakamura will indeed compete in a Triple Threat match at Survivor Series.

WWE has something special on its hands with Aleister Black, especially because it’s hard not to love the idea of him eventually going after someone like The Fiend (he’ll let him in, folks, come on).

Black has received plenty of airtime lately on broadcasts, so it’s clear they want to keep him fresh on the minds of viewers. What better way to give him a prominent position on an important show than to have him go up against a juggernaut like Walter?

These two have put on incredible matches in other promotions in the past. But having them link up again would benefit both Superstars and it would simply be a fun David-Goliath style encounter with show-stealing potential.

One can’t have a card like this without Tommaso Ciampa in a prominent spot and Daniel Bryan has been excellent in putting talent over lately.

The two are made for each other.

Bryan has already had some strong run-ins with NXT talent as it is. But part of the appeal here is the surly unforgettable mic work these two would put on together.

Maybe WWE wants to keep this in a back pocket for an extended feud down the road, but it’s hard not to love the idea. Mic work, the contrast in the ring, everything about it reeks of a potential classic.
