AEW Rampage Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from May 27

Welcome to Bleacher Report's coverage and recap of the final episode of AEW Rampage before Sunday's Double or Nothing pay-per-view in Las Vegas. The show had a special early start time of 6:30 PM EST. 

The last semifinal match for the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament took place this week when Ruby Soho battled Kris Statlander to see who would get to face Britt Baker in the finals this weekend.

We also saw Bryan Danielson take on Matt Sydal, and The Young Bucks were in action as they prepare to face The Hardys at the PPV.

Let's take a look at everything that happened during Friday's show. 

Rampaged opened with Danielson and Sydal in the ring and awaiting the bell. They locked up and The American Dragon tried to assert his dominance on the mat with a quick arm drag before he bragged about his accomplishment.

It's not often that either of these men are in the ring with somebody who is about the same size, so they took advantage of the situation. Nobody was positioned as the underdog due to their size, so they told a different story.

This story was about Danielson proving that he is the superior pro wrestler to Sydal while the high-flyer tried to prove him wrong. Every time it looked like he might mount a comeback, Danielson would do something to stop him in his tracks.

To Sydal's credit, he kept getting back up whenever he was knocked down. While The American Dragon certainly controlled the pace, Sydal looked like a valiant competitor who was always on the verge of gaining the momentum he would need to win.

We all knew he wouldn't get the W in the end, but they did a good job still making the fight feel competitive. After he locked Sydal in a submission and beat his head in, Danielson was declared the victor.

This was what a good TV match should be. It wasn't too short or too long. It had incredibly entertaining action and both competitors looked great. Any match can be improved upon, but this was a great example of a bout most fans would say lived up to expectations. 

Grade: A-

Notable Moments and Observations

• Danielson is successfully making being the better technician into a heel gimmick, and the fans are still cheering for him. That's how good he is. 
• The way Danielson rolled Sydal over in a surfboard submission and then unloaded with elbows to the head looked great because it was kind of brutal. 
• Danielson catching Sydal as he attempted a jumping kick probably made him feel stronger than he has ever felt in a wrestling ring. 
• Danielson countering a meteora into a single-leg crab submission was smooth. 

Matt and Nick Jackson decided to have some fun this week by cosplaying as The Hardys for their match against Taylor Rust and Jon Cruz. 

Not only that, but they brought out Gangrel to complete their Brood recreation. As they wrestled, they tried to only use moves and double-team spots the Hardys have made famous. 

After it looked like Rust and Cruz might start building some momentum, the Bucks went back to what they know best and hit a few superkicks to stall their offense. 

Matt hit a Twist of Fate and Nick followed up with a Swanton Bomb for the win. While this was nowhere near what could be considered a show-stealing match, it was a lot of fun for what it was.

The Bucks hit almost every signature Hardy spot perfectly, and attacking Gangrel after the match to bring the Hardys out to defend him was a good way to end things. 

Grade: C+

Notable Moments and Observations

• Nick's Swanton Bomb looked pretty good, but something about how Jeff hits it is special. 
• Watching Gargrel DDT Brandon Cutler in 2022 is hilarious for some reason. 
• It was nice to see Rust get a TV spot. He was not given enough of a shot in NXT. 

Max Caster and Dante Martin both have tag team partners who are currently injured. Martin was flying solo, but Caster has all three members of The Gunn Club and Anthony Bowens in a wheelchair.

After Martin took most of them out with a dive over the top rope, Billy Gunn threw him into the steel steps. This led to the referee booting everybody from ringside so it could be a fair fight.

Caster had a size and power advantage, and he made sure to exploit it at every turn. After a decent back and forth contest, Martin scored the win with a beautiful springboard moonsault. It was too bad a large portion of it took place during a commercial, but that sometimes happens when you put four matches onto an hour-long show. 

Grade: C+

Notable Moments and Observations

• The fans really do love The Acclaimed, especially in Las Vegas. Bowens got a nice cheap pop when he said the name of the city during the intro. 
• Pairing The Acclaimed with The Gunn Club seems like a terrible idea on paper, but it has been so much fun since they started doing this stuff. Austin and Colten Gunn are hilarious together. 

The usual side-by-side interview before the main event had Soho talk about how she came into AEW with some momentum and needs to regain it. Statlander spoke about being at AEW since the start and having nothing to show for it. Both women had good points. 

The crowd seemed split between both competitors as they had their first few exchanges. At first, it felt like they were trying to one-up each other. As the match progressed, both of them started to find their aggressive side. 

Statlander came close a few times, but The Runaway ultimately ended up scoring the win to advance to the finals. Britt Baker came out after the match, but Soho told her to shut up before she even spoke. 

Part of the crowd was booing Soho because Statlander was heavily liked, and Soho did her best to put them at ease, but it was not working. The match was fun, but the crowd's reaction prevented what took place after from having the desired effect. 

Grade: B

Notable Moments and Observations

• Statlander was a lot of fun as an alien, but her new direction is exactly what she needed. She's a tall, strong, tough competitor who should be allowed to rub that fact in her opponent's face. 
• Both of these competitors have great ring gear because it is instantly recognizable as belonging to them.
