WWE NXT 2.0 Spring Breakin' Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights

WWE NXT 2.0 planned to ring in the spring season with a major event, NXT Spring Breakin'. This show had a chance to set a new path for multiple championships while also continuing big rivalries.

Bron Breakker would finally get his hands on Joe Gacy but only by putting his NXT Championship on the line. Cameron Grimes would face tough odds in an NXT North American Championship defense against both Carmelo Hayes and Solo Sikoa.

Cora Jade would fight her idol Natalya in a tag team match where she would team with Nikkita Lyons against The BOAT and Lash Legend. The Creed Brothers faced their greatest challenge to date against The Viking Raiders.

Nathan Frazier would debut in NXT 2.0 against the loudmouth Grayson Waller. Santos Escobar and Legado del Fantasma would sit down with Tony D'Angelo in an attempt to find common ground.

NXT Spring Breakin' had the air of a major show, particular thanks to its two big title matches. Could we see a new NXT champion by the time the night ended?

NXT North American Title: Cameron Grimes (c) vs. Carmelo Hayes vs. Solo Sikoa

Solo Sikoa controlled the action throughout, but he could not put away Cameron Grimes or Carmelo Hayes. The NXT North American champion found his spot to hit a top rope Cave-In on Sikoa to retain his title.

This was easily one of the best matches from the NXT roster all year. The action was fast-moving and intense. Sikoa continues to showcase how good he is by thriving under brighter spotlights. He may have been the best man in this match despite facing two of NXT's finest.

Grimes will absolutely solidify himself as a top guy if his matches continue to be this good. Much like Melo before him, he is helping build up the NXT North American Championship as the workhorse title, easily outshining the NXT Championship lately.

The next step is likely Grimes vs. Melo one-on-one since Grimes pinned Sikoa. After that, there are so many more great challengers for the champion.

Notable Moments

  • Pretty Deadly opened the show hyping up the card before enjoying a dip in the pool.
  • Sikoa superkicked Grimes right into a Code Red from The A Champion.
  • Sikoa powerbombed Grimes off the ropes as the champion superplexed Melo.
  • Melo reversed the Cave-In into a double knee facebuster. He went for the diving leg drop right into a superkick from Sikoa, who then connected on a diving splash for a nearfall on Grimes.

Grayson Waller vs. Nathan Frazier

Just before the match, Nathan Frazier talked up how much this moment meant to him as a fan, debuting on the NXT 2.0 stage. Chase U caused Grayson Waller to fall off the top rope with a surprise air horn, which allowed Frazier to hit him with a Phoenix Splash to win.

This was a huge debut for Frazier. He got to show off his in-ring skills and pick up a surprise win. The action in the ring showed why NXT 2.0 was willing to go big on the NXT UK star from the start, even though he rarely picked up major wins on the other brand.

He pushed Waller to his best match to date, even outshining the loudmouth's run-in with AJ Styles. It was an exciting and action-packed showcase that hopefully is a sign that Frazier's future is bright.

Notable Moments

  • Waller ran to the stage when Frazier tried to dive on him, grabbing a folding chair nearby. He would later rip up a beach ball and throw it at Chase U, continuing to use his environment.
  • Frazier countered the rolling cutter into a superkick then a second low superkick for a nearfall.

Tony D'Angelo and Legado Del Fantasma Agree to an Uneasy Truce

Tony D'Angelo refused to "follow Santos Escobar's lead". However, after AJ Galante talked him down, D'Angelo agreed to an uneasy truce, sealed with a toast. Later in the night, Legado kidnapped Galante after Escobar admitted that the consigliere kept The Don strong.

This was a silly but fun segment that echoed classic mobster films. Escobar was established as the legacy man that had run NXT while Tony D is the ambitious young man likely to do anything in his power to undermine those with more authority.

Something about this segment made it feel like this could be the end approaching for Legado. Whether that means the group moves to Raw or SmackDown or the talent breaks up, it would be a shame to not see Escobar win the NXT North American Championship before the next stage.

Notable Moments

  • Wendy Choo change the timer on Mandy Rose's tan, leaving her in the tanning bed far too long. Later, Choo and Roxanne Perez stole the shoes and clothes of Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne at the beach.
  • Indi Hartwell and Duke Hudson refused to tease a relationship after losing their significant others.
  • Fallon Henley and Tatum Paxley announced their entry into the NXT Women's Breakout Tournament.
  • The WWE doctor told Brooks Jensen that he would need 6-8 weeks to recover from Von Wagner's attack on his right arm.
  • Alba Fyre told NXT 2.0 she would make her return next week.

Cora Jade and Nikkita Lyons vs. Natalya and Lash Legend

Natalya tried to carry the action as the veteran, but she accidentally kicked Lash Legend in the face out of a pinfall attempt from Nikkita Lyons. Lyons hit Legend with a split-leg drop to set up Jade for a diving senton to win.

The preview we got here of Natalya vs. Jade did not stand out much as Lyons was given most of the big moments in the action. Outside of an awkward attempt to pin Legend when she was no legal, Lyons kept up with the others in this match.

Legend was used too much, leading to multiple miscues. She has some solid moment though, more so than in past matches. When she is on, she has chemistry with Lyons. Natalya had her work cut out for her though guiding the rookie.

Notable Moments

  • Lyons clotheslined Legend over the top rope to the floor.
  • Natalya accidentally kicked Legend in the face as she tried to break up a pin.

The Viking Raiders vs. The Creed Brothers

Roderick Strong told The Creed Brothers and Ivy Nile that they needed to step up starting tonight. Elton Prince and Kit Wilson nearly got on the bad side of Erik and Ivar by interrupting them during an interview.

Julius and Brutus Creed had little answer to The Viking Raiders power and speed. Roderick Strong ran in with a running knee on Erik to set up Julius to hit a low running clothesline for the win. The Creed Brothers realized what Strong had done afterward and were not happy.

The inexperience of The Creed Brothers was on display in moments of this match. The pacing and timing of this contest was off-kilter throughout. It seemed like Brutus and Julius were missing their cues, leading to awkward slowdowns.

This did not stop the match from being fun, but it did prove Julius and Brutus are still not quite ready for the big shows yet. It felt off in the end for them to defeat The Viking Raiders, even given the cheap finish, after such a messy match.

Grade

Notable Moments

  • The Viking Raiders hit Julius with the Viking Experience for an early nearfall.
  • Erik sent Brutus to the floor then tagged in Ivar to splash him on the floor.
  • Ivar powerbombed Erik onto Brutus followed by Ivar diving onto Brutus for the nearfall.
  • Julius hit Ivar with a superplex but then ran into a roundhouse kick.

NXT Championship: Bron Breakker (c) vs. Joe Gacy

Before this match, Joe Gacy promised that he would change the world. Bron Breakker struggled to keep his anger in check throughout this match. Breakker ducked the handspring clothesline and planted his challenger with a spear to win.

Afterward, two hooded men stepped up on the apron behind the NXT champion, but the show cut off before fans could see anything more.

This was an oddly paced main event. Gacy dominated throughout and never gave Breakker a chance to make a real comeback. However, after everything, the NXT champion beat him with a single spear, the first time he has used that move as a finisher.

Combine this with the awkward post-match, it seemed like NXT 2.0 ran out of time. There is likely to be more fallout from this match next week, but the presentation just did not work. Gacy and Breakker have some chemistry but need a better roadmap for their next contest.

Grade

Notable Moments

  • Breakker came out in the same singlet his father Rick Steiner wore on the first Monday Night Raw.
  • Gacy hit Breakker with an Alabama Slam and powerbomb for a nearfall.
