Week 17 Fantasy Football Rankings: Position-by-Position Outlook

After 16 weeks of fantasy football, it all comes down to this. For the majority of standard leagues, championship matchups take place in Week 17, meaning there are only two teams still standing that will go head-to-head for your league's title.

It's been a lot of work to get here, especially in a year like 2021, when so many star players have either dealt with injuries or missed games due to being on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Fantasy managers had to be active on the waiver wire and constantly build depth on your team's roster in order to have success.

So it will take only one more win for fantasy finalists to win a championship. But there still may be tough decisions to make, especially if more players are placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Here are positional rankings for Week 17 as fantasy managers begin to think about their final matchup of the season.

Quarterbacks

1. Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen vs. ATL

2. Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts at WAS

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady at NYJ

4. Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers vs. MIN

5. Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow vs. KC

6. Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford at BAL

7. Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray at DAL

8. Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert vs. DEN

9. Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes at CIN

10. Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott vs. ARI

Matchup to Watch: Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady at NYJ

Brady has thrown only one touchdown pass over the past two weeks. But he's also had six games with four or more TD passes this season, and the Bucs' Week 17 matchup against the Jets should be the perfect opportunity for Brady to have a showing like that.

Throughout his 22-year career, Brady has dominated the Jets, going 30-8 against them (including the postseason). He's thrown for 9,160 yards, 61 touchdowns and only 16 interceptions vs. New York.

This season, the Jets are again struggling, as they're 4-11 and allowing the fifth-most passing yards per game in the NFL (250). That should lead to a bounce-back showing for Brady, who will be among the top QB plays in fantasy for Week 17.

Running Backs

1. Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor vs. LV

2. Cleveland Browns RB Nick Chubb at PIT

3. Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook at GB

4. Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon vs. KC

5. Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones vs. MIN

6. Los Angeles Chargers RB Austin Ekeler vs. DEN

7. Pittsburgh Steelers RB Najee Harris vs. CLE

8. Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott vs. ARI

9. Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Ronald Jones II at NYJ

10. Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny vs. DET

Matchup to Watch: Cleveland Browns RB Nick Chubb at PIT

The Steelers are allowing an NFL-high 142.7 rushing yards per game. And with the Browns' passing attack struggling of late, they could rely heavily on Chubb, who should put up some impressive numbers during this Monday night matchup.

Chubb has scored a touchdown in each of Cleveland's past two games, and he rushed for 126 yards in Week 16 against Green Bay. That marked Chubb's fifth 100-yard game of the season, and he could add another in his favorable Week 17 matchup against Pittsburgh.

Some fantasy managers who have Chubb on their roster could be counting on him to lead them to a victory on Monday night, especially if they're trailing after Sunday's 15-game slate. And there's a good chance that Chubb will deliver in a big way.

Wide Receivers

1. Los Angeles Rams WR Cooper Kupp at BAL

2. San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel vs. HOU

3. Green Bay Packers WR Davante Adams vs. MIN

4. Buffalo Bills WR Stefon Diggs vs. ATL

5. Minnesota Vikings WR Justin Jefferson at GB

6. Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Antonio Brown at NYJ

7. Seattle Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett vs. DET

8. Miami Dolphins WR Jaylen Waddle at TEN

9. Kansas City Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill at CIN

10. Los Angeles Chargers WR Keenan Allen vs. DEN

Matchup to Watch: Miami Dolphins WR Jaylen Waddle at TEN

Waddle continues to get better as his rookie season goes on. He's had at least 90 receiving yards in each of his past three games, a mark he hadn't reached prior to that. And during that stretch, he's had 28 receptions and a pair of touchdowns.

In Week 16, Waddle impressed against the Saints, hauling in 10 passes for 92 yards and a score. If he can do that against a solid New Orleans defense, then he may fare even better in Week 17 against Tennessee, which is allowing the seventh-most passing yards per game in the NFL (246.5).

While Waddle should be among the top fantasy wide receivers in all formats in Week 17, he's especially valuable in points-per-reception leagues. He has 96 catches this season, and Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa should be looking his way a lot moving forward.

Tight Ends

1. Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce at CIN

2. San Francisco 49ers TE George Kittle vs. HOU

3. Baltimore Ravens TE Mark Andrews vs. LAR

4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Rob Gronkowski at NYJ

5. Buffalo Bills TE Dawson Knox vs. ATL

6. Philadelphia Eagles TE Dallas Goedert at WAS

7. Miami Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki at TEN

8. New England Patriots TE Hunter Henry vs. JAX

9. Denver Broncos TE Noah Fant at LAC

10. Dallas Cowboys TE Dalton Schultz vs. ARI

Matchup to Watch: Philadelphia Eagles TE Dallas Goedert at WAS

Washington has struggled while trying to stop tight ends in recent weeks. In fact, it couldn't slow Goedert in Week 15, as he had seven receptions for 135 yards (both season highs) in the Eagles' victory over their NFC East rival that week.

Goedert should bounce back in Week 17 after a quiet Week 16 showing (two catches for 28 yards). But he's had some ups and downs throughout the season, so that shouldn't concern fantasy managers heading into this favorable matchup.

Expect Goedert to be among the top tight ends of the week, as Philadelphia should excel against a Washington team that is coming off a 56-14 loss to Dallas.
