AEW Rampage Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from August 27

With All Out coming up on September 5, All Elite Wrestling is in full prep mode for what could be the biggest pay-per-view in the company's history.

This week's Rampage continued that buildup with the finals of the Tag Team Eliminator tournament to find new No. 1 contenders for The Young Bucks' AEW Tag Team Championships.

Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus of Jurassic Express battled Rey Fenix and Penta El Zero Miedo of The Lucha Bros to see which team would earn that right.

We also saw Christian Cage team up with Frankie Kazarian to face Kenny Omega and Brandon Cutler, while The Bunny took on Tay Conti in the women's division.

Let's take a look at everything that happened on this week's episode of AEW Rampage. 

Rampage kicked off with the finals of the Tag Team Eliminator tournament between Jurassic Express and The Lucha Bros. Jungle Boy and Fenix started with a handshake before trading counters. 

They kept the pace quick and has a long sequence that ended with another handshake as a sign of respect between competitors. They both decided to tag their partners after coming to a stalemate.

Penta and Luchasaurus traded strikes while Fenix and Jungle Boy tried to get involved. They continued to trade control back and forth after the commercial break while the crowd chanted for both teams. 

Luchasarus put up a valiant effort, but the double-team offense of Penta and Fenix was too much for him. After Lucha Bros scored the win, The Young Bucks attacked them to send a message. 

Grade: B+

Analysis

If you want storytelling and psychology in your matches, this one is not for you. If you like tag team moves and high-flying spots, this bout will make you happy.

Both teams had several standout moments, especially during the latter part of the match. Jungle Boy looked more comfortable than ever in the ring, especially during the moments when he was working with Fenix. 

The Lucha Bros and Young Bucks have had a handful of memorable encounters, but the heel-babyface dynamic was reversed back then. It's going to be fun to see if their next bout feels different as a result. 

The Bunny got an early advantage by attacking Conti during her entrance, so the Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner spent the next few minutes trying to recover.

The Blade cheered on The Bunny from ringside as she choked Conti against the bottom rope. Eventually, Conti was able to turn the tables with a few throws and slams.

Penelope Ford came down to watch the action. Her presence distracted Conti long enough for The Bunny to grab the brass knuckles from The Blade. One right hand got her the win. 

Grade: C+

Analysis

This was a decent match with some good physicality, but it never felt like it left second gear. There was no urgency to what they were doing.

The Bunny winning with the brass knucks was a nice heel move that would make William Regal proud. Ford's inclusion felt unnecessary, but it looks like she has formed some kind of alliance with The Bunny to give them an advantage in the Casino Battle Royal. 

Before the main event took place, Mark Henry conducted a split-screen interview with both teams. Their main topic of discussion was Cage and Omega's upcoming match at All Out. 

Kazarian and Cutler locked up, and the Elite Hunter backed him to the corner for a series of hard right hands. He threw Cutler toward his corner so he could tag in Omega. 

Michael Nakazawa grabbed Kaz's foot so his boss could take control. Cage came in and Omega immediately tagged out, leaving Cutler to take the brunt of his wrath. 

Cage took out Nakazawa at ringside after he hit Kazarian with a laptop, but that allowed Omega to lay Kazarian out with a clothesline. Cutler did some bad dance moves, and it cost him control of the match. 

Omega dropped off the apron to avoid a tag so Cutler had to deal with Cage by himself. The Cleaner pulled Christian into the ring post while the ref was distracted, but he missed the V-Trigger and hit Cutler by mistake. Cage hit Cutler with the Killswitch for the victory. 

Grade: B

Analysis

This match had more of a story to it than the tag bout we saw at the top of the show, but it fell short in providing as much excitement, which is saying a lot considering who was involved in the main event.

Omega plays a great cowardly heel when he wants to. His performance here made it seem like he fears Cage, which is exactly how this should be booked since Cage won the Impact title already. 

Cutler was the comedy relief, so whether you like that thing or not will heavily influence how you rate this match.
